Malgretoute Soufriere, Malgretoute, St Lucia, Castries
Bubbling sulfur springs in the caldera of the dormant Qualibou volcano, with nearby mud baths.
Our tour guide Samantha was very courteous and knowledgeable. Had a great time. A must to visit once you come to St Lucia.
We visited here as part of a tour and found it really interesting. Our guide was informative and friendly, and I felt like I learned a lot. You can get a double ticket for the volcano and the sulphur springs mud baths, which I would recommend.
A must visit when in St. Lucia. The Mud Bath makes your skin, SILKYYY SMOOTH!!! LOL
We went to the sulphur baths. The mud and the baths were great for our skin but the sulphur reacts with sun cream, which has ruined some of our clothes. Id do it again but Id be much more careful to wear dark clothes so they didnt get damaged.
Drive in volcano is a bit of an exaggeration! Saying that, if you have a good guide (we lucked out, ours was amazing), it is a great place to visit. Our guide was really knowledgeable, a history graduate so really knew his stuff, and was very passionate not only about the area but of the whole island. He also explained that the traders by the car park were all farmers from the village above the volcano who supplemented their income selling things to tourists so do take a look.
My husband and I love the history behind this volcano. The volcano produces the sulfate for the mud bath. The mineral are also used for healing and acne. The waterfall is beautiful. The food was great. I love Caribbean food.
Showers not working properly and need maintenance as do the dressing rooms which are in pretty bad condition. Also the water gets unbearably hot during the day so best to go there when the suns not up. Apart from that its pretty good
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The tour guides are exceptionally knowledgeable and professional.
I enjoyed seeing the Soufriere Volcano although I probably expected more than it was but I enjoyed the history on it and got to experience a dormant volcano! I recommend it if you’re in the area just to see it in person and get a tour of it as you learn the history about it!
Worth a try and visit. The springs are very relaxing and get the heart rate up. If youre not a fan of sulphur, this is not the place for you. Definitely touristy, but a cool experience. My only complaint was feeling a bit rushed to move along for the next group. Bring some cash for payment and enjoy haggling with the locals at the shops.
The volcano was neat, with some geology lessons built in. Highly recommend visiting the hot springs!
Cover yourself in sulfer and iron mud then bathe in water heated by the volcano. Its fun but wear a bathing suit you wont mind smelling like sulfur for a while.
Super cool! Entertaining guides. Very, very cool experience. If you dont smell sulfur, RUN! Because that means shes about to blow. Get the combo pass and take a dip in the hot baths! Youre in paradise, bathe in the volcano already!
Quite the tourist scene and different deals for different folks, whether part of a package or coming on your own. Someone at the place we stayed recommended a driver and we did the drive thru w/just a quick look at the open boils. Still, interesting excursion and a tropical volcano/sulphur spring compared to the desert sulphur springs of the American southwest.
An interesting site. The natural views are quite simply awesome. Only the human side lets it down. Far too many people in the sulphur baths (so we gave it a miss), excessive numbers of persistent hustling sellers (*some will follow you, tell them to f*** off*of the usual tat (mostly after the payment point!and worst of all, the woman behind the tiny hole you pay through (they clearly think they might be robbed); the rudest person Ive met in the country!
The mud pools are very relaxing, the tour is short but interesting, there are some snack stands and souvenirs and after the mud mask, my skin is glowing!
So i had a sulphur mud bath here😃😃 the sulphur flows from the volcano you rub some all overvyiur body and dip in the sulphur springs, its very hot and takes some getting used to.My skin was soft and supple afterwards 😃😃😃😃
Amazing places, something you have to experience when visiting Saint Lucia
Very crowded and the mud area is not big at all. But we enjoyed it.
Had an amazing day visiting Soufriere drive and seeing sulphur water bubble from the volcano surface. Beautiful drive and gorgeous views. Our tour guide was good and told us about the history and we had a good experience. Must visit in St. Lucia. You can actually touch the warm water where the sulphur stream flows. Be careful of the boiling sulphur water as you dont wanna be burnt!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and quite nice. The only problem is the scent was rather pungent.
Awesome place to see and experience, one of the highlights of our trip to St Lucia , take pics of the active volcano , go into the hot water , be careful, there are no railings or instructions and water is too hot for young kids, then get vocanic mud on you, fun pics as well, thank you !
The Pitons are a sight to behold. It can be seen from anywhere on the south side of the island. The town of Soufrière is quaint and beautiful.
Our family had a great time here. Of course you have to get past the rotten egg smell but you get used to it pretty quickly. The tour was very interesting and the mud bath was a lot of fun.
We took the Julian Boat Tour and this was one of fabulous stops. You must visit this volcano if you are visiting St. Lucia. A very beautiful thing to see and experience, the mud bath was a bonus.
Amazing! Got pretty close to the steam ventss, lots of little pools bubbling and steamimg. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and explained things weel, keeping it basic so we all could understand. Its a short walk down and up, spent about 20 minutes viewing and asking the guide questions. Very fascinating, highly recommend it for only $9 USD each.
I always love coming here. Breathing in the sulphur air makes me feel wonderful. The newly upgraded hot pools are amazing. Our tour guide was very kind and informative. Will definitely be back for several baths.
Dont leave St Lucia without visiting this must-visit natural spring. Its an inexpensive tour and mud bath to relax after a long day. The strong sulfur smell is no joke though.
Cool visit worth the 45-60 minutes to do the hike around the fumaroles and mud baths. Go early to beat the crowds!
Beautiful Island, Very nice people, Driving there is a little scary...roads are extremely narrow and Winding...Views are Breathtaking.
The roads are super steep and windy, bring the Dramamine. Lots of places to pull over and take pictures. Hire a driver, its worth it.
When visiting Soufriere its something considering to visit but not the must see atraction unless you are some geo geek. The place is pretty crowded and the crater is not standard comparing to other existing volcanoes what can be interesting for you. For us it was nice to see.
Amazing place to visit! You can experience of an active volcano, as there are sulphur bubbling natural pools and the sulphur steaming out of them making amazing, out of earth view . Close by there are mud bath for keen visitors.
Absolutely stunning and a place all tourists should visit! Discounts for local or st Lucian citizens are generous. Suggest you do the tour and baths. Top tip... the spring water is cooler in the morning and hotter during the day so pick what suits you!
Definitely a let down. When you hear “drive in volcano” I think you expect something entirely different. Turns out most of the island is considered a volcano so by the fact that you are there means you have “driven in” to the volcano. Semantics I suppose. The tour is all of a 5 minute walk up a wooden walkway and you get a bit closer to the boiling sulpher pits. And the guide will give you some interesting tid bits of info about it all. Honestly I was quite unimpressed. Go for the mud bath.
Smells so bad, of course! For some reason I didnt think about smells until we were already there. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lit about the history of Soufriere. We also got to see cashew trees which was awesome, and feel the water flowing near the volcano. It was so warm, it was incredible.
Interesting place with guides that have excellent knowledge that really brings the place to life. Got to adjust to the strong sulphur smell but you quickly do
The mud bath was fun at the volcano. A little busy and you have to make your way through the vendors out front. The price of admittance was affordable I thought. Not a place youll spend a ton of time but definitely a popular destination when visiting St. Lucia.
Rare opportunity to get up close to bubbling volcanic mud and steam vents. The Park Tour guides are well spoken and provide an good tour. Warning, need to be able to climb up and down many steps!!
It leaves the skin feeling amazing! We came here as part of Joys Cruise and got to bathe in the hot spring water and cover ourselves in the mud.Just be careful, if you are sunburnt then that water is going to sting!
The smell of sulfur can really wake you up but seeing bubbling pits and feeling the heat of the water springs really can open your eyes up to different types of beauty! A must do!
Local & tourists come to the area to get the experience of the white & black mudds that u put on your skin and then rinse off in the volcano warm water. They said that these mudd fam help.with the arthritis, liver spots, anemia..etc. Price is reasonable. I did not do the tour. However, I did the silver bath.
Amazing sight to see, probably only once in a lifetime experience. Live bubbling tar and steam, but strong sulfur smell at times throughout visit. Dont miss it, its a short stop in the day but well worth it.
Arrived here just before closing and did the black water pool combo. First drove up and parked the car to do the tour of the volcano crater, the tour leader was very informative on the crater and the trees surrounding as well, she did point out a tips sign which was a slight hint from her. Then drove back down and did the baths, not well signed on what pools to do first and no mud in the buckets to put onto your skin as advertised so was disappointed with this part of the combo.
I went with my family to get the full experience of the sulphur springs bath, needless to say if you were not white you were given little to no attention. The sad part was, that as a native St. Lucian, I completely understood all the rude and nasty remark that were made. Besides this the experience was great. My skin felt nice and smooth. I Will return on my next vacation. Thanks to the one gentle man who helped me, wished I remembered his name.
Once you get past the sulfur smell this place is amazing. Go for the mineral bath later in the afternoon to avoid tourists from cruises (closes around 4/5, we went at 2 pm and wasnt too crowdedgreat tour guides, very knowledgeable. Also only 15 USD entrance fee, although its probably cheaper in EC.
We walked to see the stuff coming out from the heart of mother Earth! Theyre were multiple outlets. You could see the steam from far off without paying. To see the hot black water and bubbles you had to pay a little and walk closer. The guide told us how one of the eruptions we see are because a guide fell while showing tourists. He was burned, and then pulled out and still loves. Since then they only allow geologists to walk near the eruptions, only twice a year.
Good place to see an active volcano with no climbing at all, just some stairs and you can experience the smell, sound of mud boiling, and view of steam coming out. There is a mudbath as well, choose a combo for both volcano view and the mud bath, or single entry of activities. The guide Marlene was very friendly and informative as well to explain things and history of soufriere and the volcanic activities.thumbs up
While the location isn’t my first idea of a vacation destination, it’s uniqueness makes the trip worthwhile. The sight is interesting and the staff is friendly. Don’t pay for a guided tour (if you can?), it’s simply not worth it. Mud “baths” are also available, but from what I saw it was more of a facial.
Amazing view of st Lucía active volcano. You can smell it and hear the constant chop chop. Mud baths available.
