Soo Locks Boat Tours - Tourist attraction in Thessalon, Canada
Outstanding experience. The entire crew was extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable.Highly recommend taking this tour of you want to learn about and see these engineering wonders first hand.
With a large coach tour group. Check in for group was smooth and easy. Boarding was smooth as we all sat in the lower enclosed deck with heat. Mid 40s this morning. Captain and Crew were friendly and courteous. The narrator and Captain were very knowledgeable about the lakes and locks. Explained the locking process through the dam, the numerous businesses along the river and lakes, the history of the lock, dam and bridges. Very educational and interesting tour.
Cool to see but too long.
Wonderful tour with our bus of people - everyone enjoyed the ride - worth your time - go with the Original group!
What a great experience, the water and the locks were very interesting to go through
A great experience. Boat crew was outstanding and the dockside staff were superb. Rode through the locks twice and the tour guide did a fantastic job.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. The were a godsend with having dog kennels on the grounds. Without these my husband would not have been able to do the tour as he wouldve had to stay at the campground with them. We had Mr. and Mrs. Captain who were an absolute delight to have. Very informative and interesting. Joe was super friendly and fun! We had an amazing time!
Even though it was foggy, it was so cool! We loved our ride with the Captain and his very funny bride! They both filled us with information about the locks and made the trip fun and interesting.
Very fun. A little long but we had to wait for another ship to come out. The people on board were so lot and annoying. Not even listening to the tour
Educational, interactive, friendly close-up tour. Also hit a museum! Canals are cool.
Great tour of a unique place. Well worth the time and price.
What an awesome tour! Staff was so knowledgeable and friendly. Captain really knew how to pilot the boat. We were impressed at the little extra stories our narrator told us that made the tour more interesting and exciting. Very accommodating to everyone of all ages on the boat. Highly recommend this tour as a must do while visiting the Soo.
Great trip! The entire crew was very knowledgeable and friendly, making for an overall great experience.
Fantastic tour, very interesting. Very friendly crew. Mr.and Mrs. Captain.
If you get a chance to take a tour is well worth it! We really enjoyed it. It was very informative and the weather was fantastic!
Buy tickets online for a cheaper price! Your was fantastic! Went with my older parents and nieces and nephews, great for all ages! Informative and beautiful sites. The locks fill/empty anywhere from 10-20 minutes and was incredibly cool. Staff was friendly and professional. 10/10
Great experience, captain Greg and his crew were very informative and had great knowledge of the saint Mary’s river and the soo locks. Thank you for an enjoyable trip.
Awesome tour. Highly recommend going on tour. Educational and enlightening. Four stars because we had to wait two hours before boarding because the locks were closed.
Great tour! Will go again 👍👍
This was one of the best organized and most informative tours I have ever been on. The captain and crew werevery knowledgeable and pleasant throughout the 2 hour plus cruise. The boat was clean and well maintained. I hope everyone chooses the Original company.
Interesting and fun boat tour. The crew is informative and friendly.
The BEST Soo Lock Boat Tour - Informative & Entertaining!!!!We are full-time rvers and have traveled north along the Mississippi River this year. We were excited to finally go through a "Lock" on a boat. This tour was really the best. Captain Ray & Peg were so friendly, informative & fun! Ray took kids into the helm/bridge for pictures, they celebrated birthdays & anniversaries and while in the "Lock" heading back to the dock the ship performed "YMCA" for the people on the viewing platform. We also saw the Manitoulin Bulk Carrier 🇨🇦 unloading iron ore and then we saw massively heavy rolls of steel ready to be sent to car manufacturers, appliance companies etc.On our way back we locked through with the American Spirit 1000 Bulk Carrier in the lock next to us.We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Captain Ray & Peg.We HIGHLY recommend this company and tour!!!
Couldnt go through the locks due to heavy boat traffic & only one lock was functioning, but crew kept us informed & took us on an informative harbor tour & got us up close to see the locks. We both enjoyed it!
Great tour guide and captain! Husband and wife team made it very enjoyable and had a wealth of experience and knowledge. Got the privilege of seeing a huge freighter beside us as well. Highly recommend this tour original tour company!
What an awesome day. Locking through in the McArthur lock next to the Paul R. Tregurtha was very cool.
Great tour. The captain had so much knowledge to share it was almost to much. it was a two hour scheduled tour but we got an extra 25 min. Going trhough the locks was a neat experiance. I dont kown how the other company runs their tours but I do know this one is top notch. I would recomend them to my freinds and family.
Highly recommended! The narrator and captain had an immense amount of experience and gave really interesting narration of the area and everything we saw. The tour length can go beyond 2 hours depending on the traffic through the locks, so make sure to plan for that. I would definitely do it again!
The tour was led by a retired freighter Captain with 44 years experience, and a Yooper native with her merchant mariner credential. It felt like your friends were telling you their best stories about the area! Highly recommend. Note that tour lengths can be longer than 2 hours if there is a lot of freight traffic through the locks, so plan accordingly.
Great tour. Make sure you go past the first tourist trap tour. Continue down the road a ways to this one. We would do it again.
We took 10am tour. Even though it was a cloudy morning, we had a great time. All the crew members were hospitable, welcoming, knowledgeable and informative. There are seating inside and outside and we sat outside. They make a few stops and we were able to take pictures. Definitely a must do when visiting Sault Ste. Marie.
Fun, but pricey way to see the locks. ($30-33). Staff on board were friendly and informative. Upper deck open, lower deck enclosed, with windows that can be opened in warm weather.
This was an absolute awesome excursion!!! It is a “must do” while visiting Sault St. Marie, MI. We were on the Hiawatha with Captain Ray, his first mate, narrator, and wife Peggy, and Engineer Joe. The best crew ever!! Peggy played music while we were in the locks and we danced for the onlookers in the observation decks💃It was top notch from start to finish. The dock and waiting area had binders of photos of the locks- be sure to look they them and enjoy a complementary cup of coffee while you wait to board. I didn’t catch the name of the lovely gal that checked us in, but she was was delightful! Thanks to all.
The tour was fun an informative. Narrator Peggy and the entire crew were awsome.
Really nice people, we had the coolest tour through the locks. I know that tours can vary based on ship traffic and weather, and we were really lucky! I had no idea we would see so many bulk carriers, or get to learn so much about them. I really recommend this tour, keep your eyes open and look up the ships you see!
Captain Ray and guide Peggy and crew were so knowledgeable and friendly. It was a pleasant ride and the ships we got to go through the locks with made it exciting.Oh and by the way … to the company owners. Peggy and Ray really need to go visit Milan to see examples of early locks
Best tour ever. Captain Ray Sheldon, personable and friendly. His wife Peggy, is great narrator. It was a fun and interesting time.
Excellent a must do an see
Excellent tour, friendly, helpful, competent crew. Two staff members reported on their attentiveness to our dog in their free kennel. This was a terrific boat tour of the impressive locks (amazing engineering!). Thank you for a great experience!
Knowledgeable guide, very informative tour. Staff very helpful.
This is an informative tour with a pleasant crew. Our tour was cut short due to ship traffic and getting through the locks without a long delay. The technology that has gone into making ship transportation possible here is amazing! The narration is easier to hear if youre on the upper deck, due to the engine noise. If you do use the lower deck, Id suggest getting closer or below a speaker.
This tour was so informative and so well done and the staff was so friendly. Shout out to Robert who talked to us and answered every question we came up with. And shout out to Cindy in the office who went above and beyond to fulfill a personal need for us while we were coming off the boat. Highly recommend it!
Amazing experience! My husband and I had a great time. Inexpensive, knowledgeable staff and awesome Captain!
We had a great first time trip! The Captain and his crew were great. Very interesting and educational experience. Would definitely recommend this company.
A wonderful little cruise through the Soo Locks. Our tour guide told lots of stories to keep the trip interesting.
We had a real great tour of the McArthur lock and locks area. Unfortunately with the current travel restrictions that Canada has in place we were not allowed into Canadian waters or the Canadian locks. The tour boat was in great condition and the crew pleasant and accommodating.
Seemed like the less popular tour, but we gave it a try. Plus there was a discount on DOCK #1 with the brochure. It was 100% worth it!! The advertised 1 3/4 hour tour was 2+ hours. The crew were great. We would definitely do this tour again!
Great experience, tour, narration. Even got stuck in locks and staff were warm, friendly, interactive, kept us happy, informed and safe. Beautiful day, great tour. Well done.
It was an amazing experience I hadnt done the tour since I was in high school and was amazed how much had changed and also how much hadnt. Captain Sully was awesome you can tell he loves what he does and Jan at the ticket office is a true delight. It was a perfect adventure to go one with my sister while she was visiting from Colorado.
Great tour with a friendly and knowledgeable crew! Your trip to the SOO wont be complete without a ride!
This was our 2nd time taking this cruise. Enjoyed it very much. Very informative and interesting!!! Lots of neat thing to see. Strongly recommend taking this cruise If your in the Sault Saint Marie area.👍👍
