1800s fort with preserved & restored elements such as a moat, a banyan tree gate & a flag tower.
Good to run
Its nice place, but nothing interesting.
Ok
So many trees, air is cool and fresh. You can learn about historical story in this place. Lets try it.
Nice small citadel compared to Hues. Very well maintained. The trees and greenery made is more beautiful. It is an oasis in the middle of a busy town. Son Tay has many ancient neighbourhoods and Pagodas. This will make a good tourist loop to make that is close to Hanoi.
Ok

Green and peaceful. Poor toilet.
I love walking here to see the old Citadel with ancient trees. Brilliant
Historical place in middle of Sontay town. I have visited during Covid Tết holiday. Explanation on history is every where. You also can hire a guide. Just go through the bridge to the Fortress and you will feel how the kings officials live and work. Going out to the other bridge. This Fortress has been restored.
The fortress was okay. Whats great are the cafes surrounding the fortress moat.
Historical place with temple and many trees look like forest!
This is a historic old fortress. Now it is a beautiful park with space to walk and play.
Beautiful public space, great for a quiet walk.
Its a great place to unwind with family and friends. The views are picturesque and amazing.
Beautiful old fortress, turned into a community park. It has some old war jets and helicopters and its a great place to jogg or just sit and watch people. Dont forget to visit the temple in the middle and keep and eye out for the trees. Theyre astounding.
Nice view and very clean. The fortress is well maintained.
nice green spot in thr traffic prone city centeru fortunately now cars drive in for picnic and parking. grrr
Very fresh and tranquil for a relaxing walk
Amazing, but needs to control peoples garbage. Theres a lot of fish around it. I think this is a very nice place to go fishing.
Son tay ancient citadel is located in center of Sơn Tây town which is now a public park for sight seeing, relax. The Citadel has many popular destinations neighborhood such as: Đường Lâm Ancient Village, Và Temple, Mía Pogoda, Ba Vì National Garden. The Citadel is surrounded by a trench and has four Gate but only one remaining by restructuring. There is a centered temple, a Flag, 2 ponds, and many trees inside. It takes you about one and a half hour from Hà Nội by bus or motorcycle.
Great places. Sơn Tay Old forstress. Many tree.
Built in late 18th century in the west of Hanoi. Only 1 hour travelling by car.
Really good place for walking around when you are in Sơn Tây on the way to visit Đường Lâm, the ancient village quite close to this place
Very peace place. Good for relaxing, for couple and for young kid
Good place to walk in fresh air. Just one thing, they don’t have any trash bin, that’s why I saw trash (not too manyarround this beautiful little green corner. What a pity!
Nice place for a leisurely morning or evening stroll if youre in the area. Popular with locals especially youngsters on date.
Nice!
Ok
Lovely place for a walk. Plenty of trees, fresh air, cool nice wind. Not so many tourist, no souvenirs shop, nothing to buy or sell, no trash, so this place is quiet. I could seat in the bench all afternoon hearing the birds sing, the sound of the wind blow on the trees. But careful, the floor here is slippery because of moss cover. Watch out for your kids
The fort is cool, and the surrounding park is beautiful.
Historical place, good idea is you want to teach children in the field they wil learn quickly better than from books, and your family can enojoy good asmosphere far from polulted city central
This place has a lot of trees, like a garden. People enjoy it a lot.
This is a very green place. A lot of trees! The environment is very fresh. Landscape is also nice with flowers every season.
Great Fortress.
Very nice !! Old root covers completely roof !
The only one left fortress with the most complete structure.
A nice gem. Walking along the canal surrounding citadels reminds me of Chiangmai, Thailand.
Very nice place and only 45km from Hanoi. No entrance fee just 5000vnd for parking your bike. Its like a relaxing park. Inside the park one old building of the old citadel left with some entrance gates and some ussr aircrafts. Love the old bicycle. It reminds me about my fathers bicycle on which he drived me school-home everyday.
Nice place. But the rework is not proper
Very beautiful castle. One of the places you should visit in Son Tay.
Looked fantastic. Nice castle. There are also old planes and helicopters here. They do charge to go in however so beware. Worth the trip!
Son Tay means West Mountain and Thanh Co means a fortress, castle or fortified center. In this case it look like a local castle used by last Kingdom of Nguyen dynasty of Vietnam when King have travelled west side of Hanoi. it is very beautiful and spacious with full of forest and old architecture buildings. Water hazard of castle is similar to Hues main Palace. Good to travel together with Ba Vi National Parks nearby including one of high mountain of 1,286 m , Ho Chi Min temple and pagoda.
