Solms Delta Wine Estate - Winery in Noorder-Paarl, South Africa
Great food, friendly service and beautiful winery.
Wine was the worst of the Wine Estates we visited during our Wine Tram tour
Staff were very friendly and eager to help. Wine was average at best (took the standard tasting). most of their wines are very sweet or lacking depth. Did not try the higher price range tasting. Platters, for the price, were lacking. scenery is beautiful.
We went with the wine tram. Booking required in advance but the number provided is not working. I find a number on their website but the lady answering the phone asked to send email… which they are not answering.Once there, they pretended to be surprised but they explain they don’t have a guide. The museum is a small room with no huge interests. We had a small walk around the property but everything look abandoned. It is a shame, the program they are selling seems great ! We didn’t test the wine though…
Beautiful lunch, amazing food! I had the best lamb shank with the creamiest mash and roast vegies! Our wine was Amalie.
Solms Delta Wine Estate is a stunning farm that achieves its goal of doing things differently. It was a gorgeous day out in Franschhoek while Johan and Nico introduced us to the farm, its history, its operations and how they are making the world a better place. It is a great spot for wine tasting, going for a walk to their bamboo forest and learning about the archaeological findings in that area.
Thank you for providing a delicious and special Mothers Day breakfast. We bought great wine at an affordable price and visited the Museum. We will definitely visit again.
This farm has it all, social history, good wine, reasonable wonderful food and a just economic vision for workers. The museum is a trailblazer in innovative and relevant curatorship and must be missed. All farms should have slave memorials like this one. The best bit of Franschhoek.
Awesome picnic. Great service. Beautiful estate.
Well worth a visit. And make sure you visit the museum, which has some fascinating artifacts and historical details from the archeological dig, dating back some 5000 years.
We visited with a local friend who has a personal connection with the farm and its history. The Museums were interesting as is the history of the Estate and the great ideas which have been attempted at the Estate.Worth the visit for the history and museums alone.
Been trying to call for 3 days. No answer on any of the numbers. I have left voicemails, but get no response. What a waste of time
Fantastic wine tasting in lovely African morning. The ladies do a great job of looking after you. Very relaxed and local wine estate. Nothing fancy but the wines do the talking. Thank you.
Amazing wine!! Try the africaner its so good!! ;)
We went there for a Mothers day picnic. Service was slow. When we were eventually showed to the picnic area we were not told where the toilets were and there was dog poo next to us on the island that we had to remove as it was the only shade. The food was good except there was no salt in the quiche and none in the basket for the picnic food. Pity the pudding was dry koesisters.
Mark, you seriously need to advertise this wine estate as "sweet wine" only, and the wine tasting was the worst I have EVER been to. I had to leave before the last two wines were served of your flagship collection. Hope you improve. What a lovely setting.
Wow! What an incredible experience. We arrived in the afternoon to the tasting room after an educational walk around the museum Van de Caab. After inquiring about food at the tasting room, we were referred to the Fyndraai restaurant, where the staff very graciously accommodated us before they closed. We enjoyed the most delicious meal of bobotie samosas and fishcakes, and were intrigued the amazing glass floor of the restaurant exhibiting the old excavated ground underneath. We returned to the tasting room where we were accompanied by the cutest farm dog name Flauf. Would definitely return.
Excellent place to buy wines at cost prices
Great history, heritage museum and a wine thats rated 22 on the list of 1001 wines to taste before you die.
An amazing place I would recommend for parties, dining alone, lunch, dates, meeting, any get together honestly is great they accommodate you and all your needs.
Although smaller than the other estates on the wine tram route, the "ethics" and better service you get at Soms Delta (maybe due to them being less busymakes it a more enjoyable stop.
Beautiful serene venue.Lots of outdoor seating under the trees. Elegant indoors.Great views of the surrounding mountains.
We were delighted today to discover that Solms-Delta has not closed down. We spent a near perfect afternoon picnicking on the farm with special friends. We arrived without a prior reservation. Mercia and her team went the extra mile to accommodate us with both a picnic basket and a separate platter of eats, both of which were most delicious. We discovered the wonderful little piece of paradise on the farm called “die eiland”, which, although we visited the farm a while ago, had not known about. Mercia is a wonderful ambassador for the farm. She has a wealth of information about the wines as well as about both the history of the farm and the current situation. We were sorry that we did not have time for the tractor ride which was offered to us to view all of the farm. We look forward to this when we next visit Solms-Delta. Thank you, Mercia, for a lovely experience this afternoon for families Arendse, Hendricks and Laing. We will definitely spread the word about the farm, wine-tasting and picnicking being operational.
Our visit at Solms Delta was great. We were celebrating my fiances birthday and the staff went over and above to make our visit special. Mercia did our wine tasting, she shared so much information and knowledge with us about the wines and the history of the farm. When they brought out our picnic basket Elma had made a card for him wishing him well on his birthday and then they sang for him which was very sweet of them. I would definitely recommend visiting the farm. Theyre picnic basket was filled with delicious food and they were very generous with their portions. I cant wait to Share the experience with my family and friends. Thank you Mercia and Elma for your hospitality, professionalism and making sure my fiance had the best birthday experience. Truly appreciate it ♥
I booked lunch at the Fyndraai restaurant more than a week in advance. My fiance and I drove an hour from Cape Town to Franschhoek, only to be told upon arrival that the restaurant was closed for the weekend. The staff at the Deli, which was open, confirmed that there was a booking, but could not explain why nobody had done me the basic courtesy of calling me to cancel. They were, in fact, barely apologetic, and seemed to want nothing more than to get rid of me before I caused a scene. I have been a return customer since 2012, and have recommended Solms Delta to many family members and friends. I doubt that I will do either again.
Wine & food pairing is really nice! You can ask for vegetarian pairing as well (see photo)
What a true Gem in Franshoek- Not to be skipped. Great quality wines at real cellar door prices- thanx to Crissy for making our day extra special. The Shiraz is great but the Vape Jazz is so different and special... have to try.
They have a massive picnic are with a beautifully kept garden. Here you can take a walk through their mesmerizing bamboo forest and enjoy the beautiful scenery. They also host the ATKV Hasvest Festival which is so integrated and definitely an experience for the family bucket list.
Solms Delta shares profits and ownership equally with their workers, which is cool. They have a small music museum on the property with a touchscreen AV presentation of local instruments - some of these actual instruments are on display in the room. The staff are friendly and the wine farm itself is lovely. The wines not terrible.
I dont know much about the wine here, but I know that we ordered food, waited for it for 50 minutes with no explanantion or apologies, had to tell our waitress that we didnt have time to eat, payed the full price for getting it as take away and got food that was at best "okey" and that we had to eat on the bus. We talked to a manager that seemed nice and was very concerned about the situation.
Had a refreshing glass of wine and a cheese platter for £3 per head served by a very knowlegable lady who explained what we were drinking. Very tidy estate with two museums
Friendly staff, awesome picnics for families or couples. Bound to find a quiet place next to the stream.
Amazing place. Very historical and a nice place to have a picnic. Also has amazing wine. Highly recommend
Nice winery. We arrived late in the day, just before closing time. The staff was very friendly and shared with us their story. The owner of the vineyard takes a personal interest in the lives of his staff. He invests heavily into their future and livelihood.Try the Jazz Shiraz; I found it fun and refreshing after a day full of wines.
Went for a picnic. An awesome picnic spot next to a river and surrounded by a beautiful forest. The tractor that shuttles guests to the picnic spots were a great hit with the kids and the heritage selection of wines is truly world class
The staff was sympathique, glasses for wine testing not clean and wines (6 differentnot really my taste (medium the porto type was OK. the area quite common..access easy from the main road.
Very interesting mix of wine and South African culture. The farm is part owned (50% )by the workers who are employed at it, and their influence is clearly visible! The music played is from a CD that the workers themselves performed in and recorded. Very unique experience. As far as the wines go, they are very high quality as most are Tim Atkin 90+ ratings and they have unusual cultivars available for tasting. Nice place overall with a lot to do there (picnics, museum, tasting room etc)
Incredibly racist place. Had a black women removed for simply looking like a criminal.
fundamentally racist attitudes and a non-apologetic behaviour with regards to racially profiling people...
This is one of my favourite Wine Farms to visit in Franschhoek. Rich in the Cape history, the farm workers own a percentage of the wine farm and they have two cultural museums that captures the history of the farm, region and South Africa. The Sparkling Shiraz surprisingly was my favourite wine.
Despite booking for the picnic 2 weeks in advance, we had to wait (with all the other pre booked guests45 min for our picnic basket to finally arrive. Add the heat and a busy toddler and it becomes a really unpleasant experience.
Picturesque setting, good wines, great entertainment with their "dancing wines".Good food at Fyndraai restaurant.Rich historical heritage - museum visit is a must.Very friendly staff.Great overall experience.
Excellent wine. Like the idea that workers are also owners.
They have a great selection of wines and they also have a great restaurant called "Fyndraai" ( One of our Favourites). P.S The Pork Belly here is INCREDIBLE!
The wine is ok but I love the restaurant and the fact that this is a great example of how to redress our Apartheid past in a sustainable way. I feel like a guest here, not just another customer.
Bad Service. Warm White wine. Kitchen closes at 4pm, but advertise 5pm on website. Much better wine farms in franschoek .
Excellent wine, superb and innovative food, partly worker owned
Worker owned farm, friendly staff on wine tasting. Excellent champagne and fortified shiraz.
A superb selection of wines coupled with excellent service definitely worth the drive.
Excellent food, superb wine, the best wine estate we visited, service from Medowin made our visit even better.
