Soji: Modern Asian - Pan-Asian restaurant in Baton Rouge, United States
Very limited parking so I would recommend carpooling! Love the decor and the vibe.We went for Ladies Night for their $20 special which was such a great deal. Service was great, our server was very patient with us and knew a lot about the menu. Food was pretty good but definitely on the expensive side on their normal priced menu.Highly recommend a reservation as we were seated almost immediately after checking in.
Everything was great especially my birthday surprise. But one person got a to go dish and it was the wrong order.
First time there and heard good things about it. My wife and I are avid sushi lovers and were looking forward to this. Environment was cosy, clean, and pleasant. Waitress very nice and attentive. Food tasted great. Took a little while, but then again, its sushi and rolls. My problems were these, 1. No miso soup. In my opinion, this is a staple and is expected. Like chips and salsa in a Tex Mex place. 2. Very minimal ginger and wasabi. My wife loves it and there was only enough for her to use. We didnt ask for more cause were in a hurry. 3. No artificial sweetener for my unsweet tea. They had simple syrup which defeats the purpose. I know costs need to be controlled these days, but perhaps the waitstaff should ask if condiments are needed or not. I would definitely eat there again, but perhaps take out and not dining.
Good food but a bit overpriced for this level. Service was good and attentive. Flavors were on point but I believe theyre trying to do too much with their extensive menu that crosses many boundaries.
This is a great date night spot. More of an adult environment. No kids menu and wasnt many kids when we went so probably not a place for younger children. As far as the menu goes, we tried the chef dumplings and they were pretty good. Our favorite thing on the menu is the Ramen. They have some amazing Beef Ramen. The meat was so good, I added chili oil to give it a bit of spice and it was amazing. Will definitely go back just for that, though next time Im leaving the kids at home.
First time there, I loved it, nice and relaxing, food was great atmosphere wonderful staff was amazing 💕 cant wait to go back
If I were on death row and only had a choice of one meal, I would 100% order the Sunkissed Roll from Soji. It is the most delicious sushi roll I have ever had. I could eat it once a week. Soji, please don’t stop making this roll - I quite literally don’t know what I would do. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks. 10/10 love it.
Very, very good. My nephew and his wife recommended and met my wife and I here for dinner. We loved the place from the time we hit the entrance. From the appetizers to the desserts, we enjoyed every bite. Highly recommended.
Lotus lounge was great. The only tiki bar in Baton Rouge. Bartenders are very knowledgeable, and understand what it means to make a balanced cocktail.
Great food we order several things including wings edamame calamari sticky ribs and all were excellent. For the main plate we got the ramen drunken noodles and a couple or more plates and it was hard to decide which one was better. Service by Noah was excellent ask for him when you come to Soji
One of my favorite restaurants. Slammin Salmon, mapo cauliflower, crunchy roll, chef dumplings, Brussel sprouts and calamari, everything is delicious.
Mediocre Asian restaurant with a lot of nice decor. This restaurant has been on my spouses list to try out for a free months so I figured let’s give it a try. We are both lovers of Asian inspired foods.Upon arrival the parking lot is super small. I looped around twice and went down the street to park. Wasn’t a fan to walk to the restaurant in the heat but I had worse experiences with parking at other places.Entering the place the host seemed like she needed some caffeine. She didn’t smile and spoke low. We were seated quickly. The dining tables are close together. The place is loud with everyone packed in one area talking plus a faded sound of music playing. We really couldn’t hear ourselves talk to one another unless we upped our voices a few yelling notches.Service was fast. So fast that the food wasn’t piping hot. The food didn’t seem freshly prepared. Our waitress was nice and informative on how to eat whatever food was on the menu.We started with the chef dumplings. Five small dumplings (good bite sizeto share. The texture was there but it wasn’t hot like normal dumplings would have been. The flavor was more sweet with little heat.Entrées. I had the chicken tsoji which is suppose to be like chicken tso. I got the dish because it always a safe dish for me to try out a new Asian restaurant. The chicken was sweet again little heat no peppers in it and no real Asian vegetables. The fried ride wasn’t mixed well and not rooted into the meal.My spouse got two rolls, which they said was delicious. The miso soup is a bowl of dark miso lots of sodium, it didn’t seem it was mixed well with a broth or anything.Overall experience was more of a drinking restaurant then a dining restaurant. The drinking menu is quite lengthy. This place seems more of a casual get together and pre gaming before going out.I don’t recommend first dating here or celebrating intimate mile stones. But if you don’t care about food to much and prefer to drink your dinner go for it.
One of our favorite restaurants in town! We love the vibe and the food is amazing. We recently visited the new Lotus Lounge which is a wonderful addition to the dining experience with a more relaxing vibe and delicious drinks 🍹 cheers!
This was such a good experience, the atmosphere is cool, the drinks were so unique and well made, the offerings were delicious and so different. Very satisfying experience.
The cauliflower dish tasted good ,but was heavy in oil. We live close by there. For myself ,I will be making healthier choices where I wont clog my arteries with oil from what I eat. I am trying to stay in good health. That was a vegetarian dish also .
Awesome dining experience. Will go back soon. This the shortest high end props a restaurant can get from this critic.
This restaurant was so much fun. The staff was more than attentive given how busy it was. I had the bento box meal with crispy beef. The cucumber salad was out of this world. Same goes for the sushi.
Ive visited this place twice and both times Ive had pleasant experiences. They cater to vegans and can easily modify items in the menu to meet the needs. The staff is super polite, the food is great, and the ambience is top notch. Definitely recommend!
Bartender was super nice ! And even thought the restaurant doesnt offer a vegan ramen noodle soup the Bartender made it happen and that was very nice of him , it was delicious !!The veggie sushi roll was the best Ive had in town , trully loved my dining experience!
The new Lotus Lounge has such a cool, tropical vibe! Bartender Brian was amazing and personable and made some of the most tasty drinks we have had in awhile! Delicious drinks tonight were Saturn, Pain killer, and Mai Tai. Soji never disappoints. The fried cauliflower, Szechuan chicken wings, and drunken noodles are definitely our go-to dishes!
This place has been on my list for a while and I finally made it! It was definitely worth the wait! The service was amazing and the food was awesome as well. Our waiter was super helpful! He made suggestions, explained the different dishes and and also answered our questions. He was super attentive and checked on us constantly! We went during happy hour to take advantage of the drink an appetizer specials so I started off with the mai tai which was really good!! The balance of alcohol and flavor was perfect for my taste. The appetizers we got were the the Szechuan chicken And the tempura shrimp roll. The Szechuan chicken was very flavorful . I especially loved the pickles that came with them. We also had the tempura shrimp roll which was as expected.I ordered the beef ramen which was okay but I got it with the miso butter by our waiter’s recommendation and I think that ruined it for me but I liked the beef. The broth wasn’t super hot which also made it a little less enjoyable. My guest had the general tsoji chicken and I tried it and it was reeeaaally good!! I’d definitely recommend that if you get it at Chinese restaurants. We also got two different desserts, the lemon pie and the eggrolls which came with two flavors, apple pie and cheesecake. They were my favorite!!! The lemon pie was good too, especially if you like key lime pie.If you look at the pictures the presentation was really nice too. Overall I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely return! Our waiter’s name was Zack, I think but he was amazing!!
Our dining experience was top notch. The food was super delicious. Our waitress, Olivia, provided excellent service. We feasted on Asian sticky ribs, tempura cauliflower, lemon grass edamame, ceviche, drunken noodles and capped it off with beers! Highly recommend!
Noah was great, calamari was delicious, civiche salad was delicious. First time eating there and I have zero negative things to say. I will definitely be going back because there is so much more on that menu I need to try.
I wish I had the words for how amazing our experience was at Soji. It wasn’t very welcoming walking in but once we sat down we knew we made the right choice. Paige took amazing care of us and watched out while we continued to order this and that. The small plates came out and they were plentiful. She somehow knew my mother and I would be regretting our ordering choices of ordering so much. LOL… The asian sticky ribs, cauliflower, and drunken noodles were outstanding! One of the major things I enjoyed was they split the entree on separate plates since we were sharing it. A+ Paige, thank you for the true hospitality! It was a pleasure meeting you!
I have only been to Soji twice and I have to say I will definitely be back!! This has by far became my favorite place to eat. The drinks are amazing as well. Andre was our server both times and he is the BEST. Awesome service and awesome personality!! I will definitely come back and ask for Andre!
It was my friend’s birthday today so we decided to try a new restaurant. We made the perfect choice with Soji! Every dish was unique and high quality with great flavor, the place was beautifully decorated with a perfectly crafted ambience, and to top it all off- absolutely amazing service. Our waiter Adam did a superb job. They walked us through the menu, giving great recommendations, was very attentive, and made my friend’s birthday dinner an incredible experience. We will definitely be back! Try out their calamari and their Slammin’ Salmon roll. You won’t be disappointed.
We went for dinner Friday night and it was busy!!! The music was somewhat loud and not what I would expect but the atmosphere still felt warm and inviting. We had the lemongrass edamame for the app! I got the Mapo Cauliflower and my partner ordered the drunk noodles. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and I cant wait to come back with our friends. Our waitress warned us the cocktails would take a while and apologized profusely. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and a nice change of scenery.
Its a once a month place for the Baton Rouge area. Just a little pricey. Be we had a great time and some good food. The worst place to sit and the only reason Im giving 4☆s is the hallway. I have no idea what the vibe of the restaurant is because we sat in a hallway.
Food was incredible! Service was excellent. My only gripe is the type of music they play. This is such a beautiful place and they chose to play early 2000s throwback jams. Totally ruined the vibe for us. We will definitely be back though because the food was worth it.
First off the best thing about this place is the staff. They were all very friendly, helpful, and quick with recommendations. Unfortunately, me and my friends found a lot of the food lacking in flavor, especially at its price point. I’m not one to send food back at a restaurant but the pork bowl below was just not worth soldering through. They did replace it with a 225 roll that was really tasty! I recommend that. Also, the atmosphere would have been better if they didn’t use the very bright over head lights and just rely on the dim colored ones. The drinks were great though!
The 225 Roll, Haileys, sunkissed, and tempered tuna rolls were hits. The ribs were a little over done, but the glaze was excellent. $188.00 plus tip. High level rolls
Definitely give them a try! Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was amazing his recommendations were spot on. He was very accommodating and knew about everything on the menu and answered all questions quickly. The place is small which was actually nice. It was a cozy comfortable quiet dinner. The parking lot is pretty small but we managed to find parking.
I was fortunate to have been taken here for my birthday celebration! The plated photo is my entrée, Duck & Scallion Dumplings with Fois Gras Cream, topped with sweet potato crisps. It was one of the specials. Excellent!!! The other photo in the bowl, is the Crispy Beef, which my husband loved! Just dont eat the whole peppers, unless you like EXTREME heat😄I had the Mai Tai (actually 2!as my drink. So tasty; tangy and just sweet enough. Our server was so sweet, yet professional. The manager stopped by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Thank you Soji staff for making my birthday dinner great!
Small, but cozy. Nice place to chill and have a drink. Nice selection of drinks and small dishes.
Great casual atmosphere, but you wont feel out of place if you want to get dressy either. Food was phenomenal. Service was just the right level of attentive as not to be overbearing. Not rushed at all. Would give it 6 stars if I could. If you havent been, youre missing out.
I freakin love this place. I wanna try everything on their menu. Great for a girls night or date night. Ive always sat at the bar and they have the best bartenders. The drunken noodles is amazing. The tempura cauliflower was one of the best things Ive ever tried. Their swanky atmosphere makes you feel like youre in a more sophisticated city than Baton Rouge. We also tried their summer cocktail menu and are really happy with it! One of those places that we wanna go back to again and again
Update: overdue update, charge fell off and have been to Soji 2 additional times, food is as good as it was day 1!Enjoyed our dinner, cocktails were well made and the wagyu tartar is amazing. Since it is a fairly new place Id watch your account afterward, dinner charge showed up (3times and then one was removed. Will give it a day or two to see if other falls off, but will definetely be back.
We had the yakitori as an appetizer and ramen as an entree. Both were delicious. Plus, the coconut macaroon dessert was great! Would go back--particularly for more yakitori!
Very fresh and personal. Great services and very knowledgeable. Ask for chiefs specials. Thanks Jade for advice of food and company whole you multitask. I will look into cooking classes and your dumplings.Just told my military friends and looking forward to bringing family of 4 ,as my kids are learning about sushi as 4@5 year old. Say, any military discounts?
Ok. We liked the atmosphere. We liked the service. We enjoyed the small plate dish, Korean ribs. However when the main entres came out, we were underwhelmed. The fish in cerviche barely had any fish and quite salty. The general tsojis chicken was quite salty as well. We had to order a bowl of white rice to counterbalance the saltiness. We really wanted to like this place, but sadly it was quite disappointing.
This was my first time going to soji and let me tell you... it was amazing. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the variety of Asian flavors. I really loved the ramen and in the end it was a very enjoyable meal! #romantic #cocktailswithtea
Awesome hipster ambiance with mediocre food and service! I would like to preface this review by stating I was excited to try this place. right after work... 4:59... enter the restaurant with a statement of fact! “We usually open the doors when it’s time for service!” 👌🏾 ok buddy it’s totally my first time here! We sit on a bench. I felt like we had crashed a party as employees were actively taking shots at the bar! Yay it’s now 5:05 pm. The hostess greeted us and seated us directly in the middle of an empty restaurant! Waitress was nonchalant and dry! The food was ok 👍🏽! I noticed there was absolutely no seafood on the menu other than sushi! My impression of this place is that it is mediocre inspired Asian food prepared by some slightly traveled overly ambitious pretentious snobs! Good prices though!Bottom Line: Ok food! Horrible Service!
Soji has a great staff and the place has a good energy. The food is solid. You will definitely get the umami flavor here. Pictured below is the beef ramen and the drunken noodles with a sunny duck egg. The spot is definitely cool, the bathrooms are selfie heaven, but be prepared to yell over the noise to speak. It’s a great place to go with a big group.
I ordered the poke and my husband ordered the butter chicken. Both were not good. My poke had too much sweet sauce and overwhelmed the salmon. My husband didn’t enjoy his dish either. The bread was stale too. Pretty disappointed considering it had good reviews. The design and concept is very cute and modern though. Makes a good hangout spot.
The design is really modern and upbeat, many diffetent types of seating area you can select from. I got the rice dish with pork katsu and crab fat. The crab fat and the sauce made it an amazing fried rice dish, i think this is the first time i see crab fat used in this way.The place is pretty new with a good menu selection. Will definitely come bacl to try other dishes
What an amazing, wonderful place. The drinks where interesting and delightful. Got the smoke signal and it was deliciously tastey with a smoked piece of rosemary on the rim. We got the Haleys Paradise roll and the poke bowl with the freshest off the boat tuna Ive ever had. The prices were not expensive. You must try this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
What a hidden gem! This is arguably the best Asian fusion restaurant in south Louisiana! Parking here is at a premium and for good reason: the food and drinks here are THAT GOOD!! Everything is fresh and delivered to your table piping hot. The wait staff is very attentive and courteous. Do yourself a favor and make reservations, and, if you have a large enough party, either carpool or take Uber or Lyft. Guarantee you will love this place!
Wow, great food. Sit at the bar and watch the wonderful food they make and order one of each!
Food was awesome, Service was very good. Its a little noisy but theyre busy. Different meal tonight, and really enjoyed it.
Simply delicious. Dont skip the original cocktails and the dumpling appetizer. The beef tartare is delicious if youre a little adventurous. Very friendly staff is happy to talk you through the menu to familiarize you with some of the less common items. Sojis Asian fusion offerings fill a culinary gap in the BR food scene in a very tasty way.
