Soei - Thai restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand
Friend recommended because of Mark wiens. Honestly, food was just average and not worth the price. There are better restaurants in Thailand.
Solid food on the generally sour side. The mackerel Tom yum and the fried mackerel cheeks were outstanding. Perhaps the only dish that wasn’t so worth were the big prawns at 500THB for 4 average sized prawns.Menu is attached for reference
I am truly glad I came here despite of itz long walking distance in the middle of August as it was truly amazing experience I had in Bangkok. I loved their food completely. I wish I came here with more people as I could have tried for more dishes. Amazing. Come here.
Superb dinner at Soei! Every single dish was so good loved the fried crab meat with roe, clams and mackerel head especially. Some of the dishes can be rather spicy such as the morning glory so if you cannot tolerate spice you might want to let them know when ordering. Pre order the mackerel heads as they are limited. The boss was very hospitable and made us feel welcomed. Must visit if you are in Bkk!!!!!
quick and delicious but small dish.
Perhaps our expectations were high, but the overall experience didn’t hit the spot based on what we ordered, although there are some hints of goodness.By now, everyone would’ve ordered the fried mackerel heads, we found that it’s an OK snack, but just not so match the hype. The oyster with wasabi is not great eitherThe kah moo pad kra pow (fried pork slice+ fried egg are 2 Ok combos. If you’re ordering the mackerel soup, know that it’s spicy.
Food is good but small portion and quite expensive. Paid 1060 baht for 5 dishes
Good local Thai dish in town.
Honestly, was so hyped for this place as every blog and video on the internet recommended it, but it was super overrated. Not worth the trip, please dont make the effort to come. Food was not bad but tiny portions and nothing special to cry home about. We had the mackerel cheeks, green curry, oyster with wasabi, omelette with basil, a vegetable dish and crab meat with salt. The only good dish was the crab meat with salt. The mackerel cheeks were ok but honestly nothing special.
Authentic Local Thai Restaurant with both inside air conditioned seating & outdoor open air seating. Some very hard to find local eats. The fried mackerel heads are a must-have and must be ordered and booked in advance. The other favourite was the liver dish which we ordered seconds, as it was just so perfectly done.
Neighborhood restaurant, all menu are very authentic.
Good taste but you need to spare a lot of time during peak hour
Chef Soei is an incredible chef. Every dish we ordered was extraordinarily delicious!I recommend the fried shrimps with garlic, the barbecue pork neck, crab stir fry rice, and the tum Yum.
The food here are too salty for me. They seems like made for paring with beer.
If you are looking for good finger licking food and service with a warm homy ambience this is the place for you, btw the price is very friendly
Ok my western friends, a must go to.Prices are great, and food is crazy amazing Thai food. For people like me watch the spice. Parking can be hard to find, so taxi over. Train ride is ok, but you have to walk in. Ok, there may be a wait cause they take time to cook the food right. Also, its that good, so its busy with locals. Service is great and they keep drinks and food coming.
Simple Thai stir fries taken to a entirely new level. My third time eating at this restaurant but the first time im here after they have relocated to their new premises with air conditioning. The quaint view of the railway tracks replaced sadly by...a roadside.Other than that, food was exceptional. Truely a trip worth coming for.
Worth the price, it is not the best thai food i have ever tasted, but i would say the best for thr price, really nice, the place is airconditioned and the seafood quality is beyond average
Very good Thai food but perhaps suffers from being slightly overrated. Its not bad by any means but probably not the best Thai food in Bangkok.Tastes home cooked - authentic and spicy but not overly so. Definitely worth a visit but maybe not if really crunched for time as its not centrally located.Ordered the fried mackerel heads (imagine fish crackers but made entirely of fish! Delish!), Crab curry, fried eggs, iceberg lettuce with fish sauce, shrimp fried rice and the palm sugar basil seed slurpee.Total bill: THB920. Good value imho. Did not wait long for food to arrive, approx 10mins before orders start coming.
Love spicy food!!! You will sweat like a dog here. Many of their signature dishes are hot and spicy. The chef wont compromise the level of heat or taste to suit your palate. Take it or leave it.Come in the peak hours, you have to be patient or had better change your destination. Still top of my lists for Thai food. You wont be disappointed.Their motto on the wall:No rush for your orders. If you were in a rush, pls dont come.If you dont like our food, dont come again.Be patient, food will be perfect.Happy chef delivers you the perfectly cooked.
Food is excellent and fairly priced. Some of the food is pretty original and unique and I havent seen it anywhere else in Bangkok.
One of the best thai food in Bangkok as per recommended by some of the best food vloggers/bloggers around. Price is reasonably good as well...12 portions for only THB2650...though portion may be small. Loads of locals here and we were probably the only tourists here.Location may be bit out of city centre but traffic was smooth#localguidesconnect
Nice restaurant with good variety of food. Try the shrimp Wasabi and the fish-head ships. But you have to be aware that the service is so slow, and its a bit pricey.
Softshell crab curry is out of this world! And who knew that cabbage with fish sauce can be so utterly delicious!A must visit if in Bangkok
All time favorite serving up fresh and satisfyingly spicy Thai food. Famous for marinated prawn with wasabi seafood dressing, deep fried gulf of Thailand sardines chin and much more.
Amazing Thai food, fresh and tasty and everything the reviews said it would be. We ordered the famous fried egg salad, was so delicious we ordered a second portion. The fried fish with crispy garlic was amazing, even for a person like me who doesnt usually eat fish for fear of bones. The eggplant with holy basil was another outstanding dish that we had to get s second order of. Overall, not a cheap place to eat but definitely worth of the price and trip to find it being so out if the way.
Simple but good food. Service is ok, nothing special but everyone nice enough. Spicy sunny side up egg salad was our favorite. Beef krapao is good but tastes more like another dish, not really krapao. Veggie dish is good but on the sweet side. All good dishes and nothing much to complain. Limited desserts menu. Is it the best, no. Still good and will be back to try other dishes.
Very tasty egg salad and fried mackerel head. We were here on our first day and decided to come back again on our last day in Bangkok! The foods are fantastic!
Delicious food. However, some dishes can be very spicy.
We went to Soei on our last night (of 2 weeksin Thailand. So definitely can conclude it was the best Thai food we had. We had seven dishes and all of then tasted differently with every dish having it’s own unique flavour. Be it the Oysters in soya sauce, you could feel the taste of an Oyster. You could feel the taste of raw prawn even if it was floating in huge amount of wasabi sauce. The big Prawns in “freshwater prawns salad” were the most delicious ones I had probably ever. The fried mackerel heads worth separate mention, cause normally being the part you discard, here it becomes ingenious and so delicious snack, you hardly can stop. Soft shell crab curry is also amazing. Tom Yam soup was also very different from the other places, very flavorful and with extra bit of lemongrass in it. We visited in November somewhere between 7pm-8pm, but the service nuce and fast, dishes started coming after around 5 minutes from ordering, so I don’t understand the complaints from other reviewers. Only thing is they forgot the steamed rice from our order, but better that way as we enjoyed the plain dished and were able to finish all seven of them with great pleasure. Also worth mentioning is that Mr. Soei wasn’t present in the kitchen during our service, and as the food was so amazing it also says he is a great teacher for the growing generation of Chefs. Thank You for the experience. A must visit place!
A restaurant for who love spicy food, seems like cooked by the homemade chili paste, very nice taste, but price is too high!
One of the greatest, most flavor packed food, restaurants in Bangkok. Dishes are in general on the strong tasting side - spicy, sour, herbaceous. Here are a few of my standard favorite dishes to order: fried mackerel heads (kaem pla too แก้มปลาทู), wasabi raw shrimp (goong chae nam pla กุ้งแช่น้ำปลา), roasted freshwater prawn salad (pla goong pao พล่ากุ้งเผา), fried egg salad (yam kai dao ยำไข่ดาว), soft shell crab curry (boo neem pad pongari ปูนิ่มผัดผงกะหรี่).
Food is ok, but if you are a tourist I strongly suggest you not to come as you have to wait 2 hours in average for food to be served on your table.... YES 2 HOURS! During my time waiting, I witnessed at least two tables getting mad and shouted at the staff to urge for food... kinda experience.. bad one
Good yummy Thai food but come with the rule. Don’t feel so hungry if going there. All Thai spicy curry, spicy soup, fried menu are recommended.
Was willing to order more dishes if it werent for the fact that i was alone! A bit pricey compared to local thai street food, but rest assured, youll taste superb flavors with each bite!
I must admit this restaurant was beyond my expectation.Every menu was very simple Thai-dish, but very unique way of seasoning. When i say unique, its not like hotel-made dish for forigner or western.too sweet, no heat from chilli, (made for western people)This is quite hot (not too much), with fragrance of Thai-herb, and not too "westen-fusion" style.Crispy pork skin was crispy fried, with perfect amount of salt-pepper, chilli. And the taste was concentrate, not oily at all !Beware that each dish was quite small and could be very expensive. (regardless to how small they are)Some dish was reasonable price, so make sure you check them properly before order !
Hot and Spicy Thai foods. Thai style restaurant worth to try. But you need to spare your time for waiting the dishes especially during peak time. This shop not suitable for quick meal.I always enjoy my meal here.Recommended
The food was wonderful, however the shrimp ceviche and jungle curry were too! spicy, I still enjoyed the flavours and wonderful food. The staff were super helpful and attentive. The egg salad is a must!! Ordered it twice! Also loved the fried mackarel heads! Great restaurant.
Fantastic food, a true representation of how wonderful Thai flavors can be. Its definitely not on the cheap side of thats what youre looking for. However the quality is worth the price.
Love the egg salad! It was my first time eating raw shrimp and i must say that I was rather impress with it. For me the mackerel soup was the only average dish for me. Called in earlier and reserve the fried mackerel heads but when I arrive they told me it was out of stock was a huge disappointment.
Absolutely fantastic Thai food located in central Bangkok. The food runs a little in the pricier side compared to typical Thai food fare but its a must try. Get the mackarel heads and soft shell crab curry, theyre to die for.
The meal was delicious but as noted by others be prepared to wait a good hour from when you order to when your food arrives
I was there with my family last week. We were extremely disappointed because of many reasons: 1bad taste and too exorbitant (4 small fish with a ton of garlic for 300 Baht. We cannot feel any taste except garlic and chilies. Another jellyfish salad was also too tasteless, but spicy. Drinking water cost 20 Baht, but its normal price is 4-5 Baht.), 2inflexible recepts (They denied to add mushrooms in Tom-Yum, while Tom-Yum itself had only 3 shrimps and a few basil leaves. It was also too sour and cost 360 Baht), 3unqualified waiters (often hit our table during walking, but never said sorry), and 4We waited for approximately one hour until we got something to eat. We dont recommend anyone to visit there.
A "You can DIY @ home" taste and style Thai food comes with too long waiting time. There are a sign writing on the wall saying "perfection of your dishes comes with waithing time". So many way to perfect the food in shorter period of time.
It is a long wait for the foods to be serve, and they do have a sign written in Thai stated that it will take long and if you cant wait...Dont come here. Their signature dish its this garlic fried fish and its must have, it is worth the wait.
The best food I had in Thailand. So fresh and perfectly seasoned. Takes a long time for the food too be prepared, but its worth the wait. I dont recommend the frog dishes, but everything else was amazing. Ask for the picture menu if youre having trouble deciding what you want.
Only 3 star because its waiting around an hour for food and no service mind. but im Thai, i know this restaurant is delicious with fair price. No car parking lot also. If you are foreigner and dont hurry up, try this. 🦐Tom Yum Kung is extreme and too sour for me, the others are good.
This place is typically packed with locals and tourists alike. Good food at good prices. However, if you visit lunchtime be prepared for a long wait. I visited by myself, ordered two dishes and was there for over an hour and a half.
Just good food. Nothing super fancy. Just delicious homestyle Thai food. Every dish was so flavorful. The only disappointment was the fried rice... rather mushy and wet. The flavor was still good, just the texture was disappointing. It could be that we got here and ate so close to opening and all they had was wet rice. Either way highly recommend this place. Mackerels in suchi curry was my favorite.
This place is a Bangkok landmark, especially so after the high-profile visits from Andrew Zimmern and vlogger Mark Wiens. And the place deserves all the attention. The food is freshly prepared and the service is very good. The wait staff speaks minimal English, but they have picture menus with English descriptions of the dishes. They have daily specials and do not feel intimated to try that since youll not find them in your typical Bangkok tourist spots. The shrimp ceviche with wasabi/horseradish, the mackerel coconut curry and the softshell crab in curry powder are to die for. Just be adventurous and order a bunch of dishes and youll not be disappointed.
