Smokey Joe's in Hengchun

The place is nice, it is big and there’s good mood in the air. On the other hand: The food is pretty bad, it has a poor overall quality and it doesn’t taste fresh at all. The best thing was the lemon juice.

Not great. The meat items were okay but all the other sides were subpar (fries, calamari, seafood soupnot fresh and not tasty. Service was alright.Overall too pricey for what it offers.

It was our first time at Smokey Joes and we left disappointed. We ordered two sets: soup and pasta in each set. The soups were good, the one was a seafood cream soup, the other one - Italian seafood soup. But the pastas were a huge disappointment. The pasta with pesto and clams almost didnt have pesto, it had lots of unsalted Spaghetti though. The pasta in tomato sauce with seafood was not seasoned well and again - it had lots of Fettuccine and not that much seafood. But the worst part came later: my friend who ordered the pesto pasta had a terrible stomach ache and couldnt sleep at night due to this "inconvenience".SJ did serve a BD cake though. So, two stars for good soups and a BD cake.

Overrated meal!! The food was definitely not worth the price

Went to e restaurant without any reservation and were seated straight away. Food came super fast. Food was delicious and atmosphere is great.

manager is professional, waiters efficient, signature dishes are good, red wine was great

Decent tex mex restaurant. Good food at normal Western food prices. Drink specials. Worth a visit when your in kenting.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is nicely decorated, but I wouldnt say the food is great. I ordered the seafood mac and cheese and I do not recommend it.. it was very watery, not yummy and not worth the price. The pulled pork tasted better, but the meat was a bit dry.

Its not only tex Mex all kinds of cuisines. Delicious food for an affordable price. The tea pot we received was broken and spilled tea everywhere but staff quickly corrected. Window table gets you a nice seaview too.

We were group of 8. Two of us ordered the ribs so we sat together on the table left side and one of our friend ordered burger sat on the other right side of the table.All order was served except the burger.The ribs came first, and we started to eat. Since the taste was bland, we thought by adding more the green garlic onion sauce which originally they served on the top of the ribs would help. We asked the waiter specifically named Nick, to provide the sauce. We often saw Nick around our table area, guess his service area was there.Finally the burger came, the plate consists of burger, fries, and 3 types of small sauce containers. Our friend dig in the plate already.Not for so long, the second time we asked Nick again where was our green sauce. He said he already asked his team to provide. The third time we asked Nick again, he said it needs time to serve since they need to cook. However he immediately came to our table right side, taking the green sauce on my friends burger plate and gave it to us in the left side table and saying that supposed to be ours. While we saw the green sauce was on my friends plate.So we are wondering, was the green sauce a complement of the burger? or additional sauce? If it was served on the burger plating, was Nick supposed to take that container from my friends plate and provide to us?It caused the situation to be so awkward inbetween our group, which this supposed to be part of the service.We understand it was during lunch time, so its busy hour. However we also believe there is room for improvement in Smokey Joes service.To sum up our lunch experience, the service was poor

I just realised my review was deleted so here I am writing a new one. To sum up my last review, the food is made mostly out of pre-made products so considering the price tags its just not worth it. Its does have a nice location and a US restaurant vibe though.

Went here as a kid, had the soft burrito platter which changed my life. Came back again ten+ years later, and they still have the same dish, with the same perfection. Highly recommend the steak fajita as well.

Tasty food, nice service.Sometimes you have to wait a little for the meal, but come on, it’s vacation time!We’ve had ravioli, lemon cake (puffer fish-style, very cuteand sangria.If you like strong flavor, this is a place for you. Will go back there again, definitely.

Very average food. Fajitas and Ravioli were mostly made from ready products. Prices are pretty high considering that most of the food is pre prepared. Extra points for the vibe and location though, I was expecting a decent meal after entering.

Quite good. Was expecting something more like what youd expect from a tourist place but this was a legitimately good restaurant that didnt feel like it was overcharging. Their mixed drinks were strong and reasonably priced. Would definitely come back next time Im in kenting.

The food is tasty here and the interior design is awesome. The price is okay. Definitely love the energetic vibes and recommend for a family/friend gathering. Also, there is a quiet beach near around the restaurant. Great location.

This was a tasty spot recommended by a Taiwanese friend of mine. The clerks were very nice, and English was ok! 👌I ordered the fried mozzarella and the bacon cheeseburger. Everything was fantastic! It was a lot of food, though... I couldnt finish all the fries (but they were delicious!).There was already a special today for buy one get one free beer! I ordered Taiwan beer, and was surprised that it was the giant one! So... I also had two of those. 🍺🍺I was very content, and adjust very, very full after lunch. I rolled back to my hotel to take a little nap. 🤣☺️👍👍

Good Joe’s nice Mexican style restaurant.So glad to we order most of their dishes.They are all really good. Yummy!It’s so crowded.Too popular at Kenting, most ppl would want to try when they come to visit.Everyone enjoyed the food.Love the avocado salad and chicken crepes with salsa. Seafood baked cover with cheese.Recommended!!

Texas Pulled Pork is awesome. Soda size per US style. Dessert was extravagant

Used to be one of the bests in Kenting, not anymore. The food quality has decreased a lot. You can clearly tell they are cutting costs on the ingredients to make more money.Their proud “homemade” ravioli is saggy, the quesadilla is plain and dry, and both dishes used the same smoked chicken that tasted like the cheap pre-made one.The ambience is still cool, the staff is very friendly, but the food is bad.I went there twice just to be sure, sad to see a then good restaurant fall.

This was my second time here and the quality of the food was not good at all. Dry and burned patties. Fried mozzarella, fries, onion rings were all very oily, probably because of the oil was not hot enough. There is a lot of room for improvement.

I love this place! The foods are worth the price. What made me love it even more is that this is where Chanyeol and Chen went during their EXO Ladder Season 2 show!

Thank you for a great night for my birthday ! We enjoy Smokey Joes every time we are in Kenting. Few rounds of Margaritas on holidays cant go wrong ... We usually eat the Mexican style food there (Fajitas / Burritos / saladsand its great. Generous portion too. Very fun ambiance and friendly staff. Many families around and groups of friends. We will be back as soon as we come down South again.

Pretty authentic (American styleMexican food, and an impressive choice of multi ethnic cuisines. Everything tasted pretty good and there was a lively crowd. Id definitely try the spare ribs and onion rings next time.

Great foods and taste! Also great kind every staffs!(especially our table server was kitty she was so nice!The foods are really great and perfect! Our food got a hair in it, but they treat good service so we could moved on with smile. If you miss western food than you must to go! When we back to Kenting Well visit again!👍

Staff was very friendly and stuck and accommodating service. Comfortable seating, great atmosphere, and decent fare. The drink menu is great. I had mozzarella wedges, on point, and burger, way over seasoned and only served very well done. Couldnt stomach it. Get the quesadilla says my husband!!

Good atmosphere, eclectic decorations, diverse menu. Servers could all speak English well. I think their menu is actually partly the problem, though. They have so many things on offer that I think they struggle to execute them all well. Portions were fairly generous. Flavors and cookery of our ordered dishes were: Seafood Mac and Cheese 6/10, Truffle Tortellini 8/10, Calamari 7/10, Pulled Pork and Sweet Potato Fries 8/10, Childrens Meal Fried Chicken and Fries 6/10 (most kids cant eat all of that food and the chicken was overcooked. My children ended up eating French fries, juice, and fruit), Chicken Fajitas 9/10. Overall, I might eat there again but I wont have exceedingly high expectations.

My wife and I shared the large beef tortillas and we ordered kids meals and a 2 for 1 mango smoothie. The tortillas were excellent and the kids meals were adequate for the price. The 2 for 1 mango smoothie special turned out to be two half full glasses, which isn’t much of a special. As well, we did not order alcohol, appetizers or desserts, but the meal still came to >$1400 NT. Like most of the reviews say, it is overpriced for what you get, even for Kenting.

The food was really delicious. The mushroom fried rice was a hit surprisingly. The soup of the day was also nice. I enjoyed my taco chicken salad a lot because the chips were wholesome and the salad was refreshing. Overall a great place for family gatherings. Need to make a reservation or else be prepared for a long wait.

A 64 page menu is a bit much for the kitchen to handle, not to mention the vast variety of food will decrease its consistency. Although the restaurant is American themed (seems like Texan specifically), the first page offers Taiwanese beef noodle which is ??? . Mexican cuisine has been heavily modified to Asian standards. Not exactly tasty but the portions were larger than standard.

Food was really good, portions are a bit small. The price its high compare to local prices. I think they are targeting tourists. When you do the conversations to dollars, prices are very similar to the states. There is even a tip charge, which is very unusual in Taiwan.

Amazing place, beef risotto was awesome, pork ribs was good, pizzas were alright, place is beautiful, Mexican cocoa was nice, truffle soup was amazing, chicken on sticks was great.They had a promotion on drinks, first drink at its original price and subsequent drinks are at half price. The drink thats charged original price will be the cheapest drink you had. Good move by the restaurantOverall, a good place and I would definitely come again.

I had been to Kenting for probably over hundred times since I was a college student. I always took the order of this beef noodles when I have chances to visit Smoky Joe. Although it is a bit pricey, it is worth the price. I highly recommend anyone to give it a try. :)

The staffs are very polite and their Beef Noodle is the best Ive ever had in Taiwan over 30 years! Its a bit pricey compared with normal beef noodles but its definitely worth the price! The atmosphere is very comfy and entertaining as well.

Decent place, the food is not bad. The spread is multi cuisine and would have liked if they had the Thai food at the time we came but nevertheless, good experience overall.

Good quality food and good prompt service. If the restaurant is not very busy the food comes fast. (I just went there during off peak hours). The music can be a bit too much but it is the theme of the establishment. So just enjoy the forced tour into the previous century - it is pretty organic anyway :)

Great place for a bit of Mexican, American, Thai and Taiwanese cuisine. Delicious and great selection of drinks with a good variety.

Went there for breakfast. The variaty on the menu was fine, including cereals and stuff. However, we waited like 10 minutes and had to wave at the waiter until we could finally order something. Overall it was very pricy for what youll get.

Comparatively less, in terms of the generous portions of food and quality of service than there was a few years ago, but still likely better Tex-Mex "style" food than youll find at any other place in Kenting, or possibly on the whole island.No cheese or guacamole on the nachos. The chicken and rib combo is no longer on the menu. Black current margaritas are still served but the two-for-one deal is long gone.Waited for half an hour to get a table and another fifteen minutes before I went to call a server over to take our drink order. Gave him our food order at the same time in case he didnt come back for another fifteen minutes. Seemed understaffed.Smoking is permitted just outside the front door where the waiting area is and unfortunately within second hand smoke range of where we were eventually seated. So, "SMOKEY joes" really lived up to its name.

We called ahead of time, the waiter on the phone was arrogant and ill mannered. When we arrived the staff claimed they could not find our booking. They did not even try to find who had answered the phone for the booking, rather just sat us down rudely and made us wait. It was not even crowded.

Definitely one of the better restrauants in Kenting main street. They serve nice western and some Asian options. Suitable for family and bigger groups also.
