Palma Rima Road, Serrekunda, Gambia, Banjul
This unassuming, colorful hotel is a 7-minute walk from the closest beach and 6 km from the Kachikally Museum and Crocodile Pool.Bright, unfussy rooms have balconies and en suite facilities. Upgraded rooms are set in relaxed, octagonal bungalows and include flat-screen TVs. Air-conditioning can be requested in advance for an additional fee.A free breakfast buffet is served in a low-key restaurant that offers vegetarian options. There's also a bar, a nightclub and an outdoor pool. Regular live entertainment is hosted in an open-air theatre.

I loved the energy and friendly welcome from the entire staff, especially one of the manager Wissam. We could rely in asking everyone working at the hotel for support or for help in any doubt. Rooms with the pool view were nicer, but if you are looking for quiet and no noise then go for the ones with no pool view.Wifi was a bit of an issue as it was not available in rooms. Breakfast was nice, but a bit poor in the food offering.
Not the best hotel, didnt get what was advertised, people lovely, facilities poor, pool lovely, pool atendent helpful and sweet, bar staff lovely, reception staff lovely and helpful. But I wouldnt go there again
Too expensive for what you got
Nice swimming pool. Room bit old and no air-conditioning so gets bit hot. Good location
Best pool in Gambia
An ideal intro into The Gambian experience.... Been back again.. just not too keen on the All-inclusive Russians... But,.. I had a fantastic experience & I’m sure you will too...
Beautiful place. Good Service.
Not rich but cheap and warm for a vacation in February. A successful vacation and the Gambia is visited.
you will be disappointed with many things.
Brilliant for a holiday in the Gambia. Very large swimming pool
Very basic. Do not go there!!! You will be disappointed with many things
Very dated, needs a lot of work. Upgraded to all inclusive not the best idea as this was their first year of doing it, didnt have a clue. Breakfast everyday consisted of some form of eggs, pancakes, dumplings, beans and sometimes potato with sausage also some fresh fruit, cardboard cornflakes and muisle. Lunch choice of soup followed by a choice of two meals with either potatoes or rice and veg, this was always served to you by the chef. Evening was much the same but a choice of 3 mains. Desert was always fruit or cake. China was all chipped and in bad condition and they ran out every day so spent a lot of time waiting around.Never any snack as advertised, all inclusive bar was limited on drinks coke, spite, tropical drink, water, lager, wine and local spirits. Have had local spirits all over the world and can say they are actually not that bad, but have never had anything like we had at Palma rima, could not drink absolutely disgusting. Not very child friendly as most guest were 50,60 and 70 and moaned about any noise kids made.
Wicked hotel love it here would definitely stay again x
All inclusive is a waste of money. No buffet just 5 items to choose from off the menu and poor quality. The drinks are very basic local stuff. Pool entertainment is almost non existent. The Bungalow rooms are nice but the standard room is well below standard. The pool is excellent very large and clean. Wifi is poor except in reception. There are lots of nice restaurants and bars just outside the hotel so good location.
Rooms clean and tidy but basic. Bungalows better than the block. Great swimming pool
Its ok but basic and food nothing special
Charging Extra for needed Utensils, Otherwuse nice bungalow rooms
Lovely place and friendly staff
wonderful friendly, helpful staff and in good location. rooms good size and clean but limited facilities and in desperate need of a major overhaul, however pool was adequate and plenty of sunbeds, entertainment was very good and for the price couldnt really complain. Overall would stay here again...edited in fact I have booked to stay again later in the year!EDIT 2: unfortunately has deteriorated since last stay. staff are still wonderful but Wi-Fi very poor, no entertainment despite posters advertising it and management/Lebanese owners are money not people focused whether that be guests or staff. I really do not like the way the hard working local staff are treated and I wont be staying here again, I would rather spend my money at a hotel that is owned by a Gambian person/business to ensure the money I spend stays in Gambian and benefits the local economy
No low cal drinks
Been here loads of times bungalows are perfect
Wonderful hotel. Beautiful Pool. Very clean and Bungerlow accommodation great.
Very basic lovely pool and staff
Great value good location
We had an amazing stay at Smartline Palma Rima. One of the best and awesome hospatility. The most honest, hardworking, generous and professional management and staff. The pool is really big and clean and the Perfect holiday destination.
Great friendly hotel......
loved it. amazing staff and monkeys outside the room
Basic hotel good staff nothing to complain about
An older hotel with time now taking its toll on the fixtures and fittings. With that said its a 3 star and a good 3 star for the region. Anything lacking is more than made up for by the attentative staff who go out of their way to make The Gambia experience more enjoyable.
I have stayed all over The Gambia, and this particular hotel 3 times. However this time I noticed too many cost cutting measures in place. Dreadful plastic margarine at meal times, the worst of the worst instant coffee, not even the usual thin sliver of soap. Yes the staff are friendly, but this does not make up for the drop in the little quality it did have. Going the same way as the Fajara Hotel.
Staff are very friendly and always willing to help. If you come to Gambia looking for 5star think again. The room is simple bed ceiling fan and bathroom. No Tv no tea or coffee in room but they have a restaurant on site. Anyway you should be out and about not stuck worrying about what is not in your room. Go see the country and get to know the people. The hotel should be just a place to sleep and freshen up
Never has been a great hotel. Bad management
Lovely atmosphere and the staff could not be more helpful. Good value for money for a budget hotel. Beautiful pool area and excellent breakfasts. Would definitely return.
Very friendly staff make up for the lack of luxury facilities
Nice staff, nice poolarea. Everything youd expect in the price range
Very tired bungalows
Absolutly the worst hotel i ever stayed in had to give one star to post this would actually give it minus stars
Great staff. Never felt more at home! Ignorant management clearly not from the Gambia or the UK, genuine hassle for them to even raise a smile. Could certainly learn a thing or two from the locals
We have stayed at this hotel twice - we love it! It is humble and basic, only 3 stars, but the staff are amazing. They only earn a pound a day, so don’t forget to tip them at the end of your stay. It’s a cheap holiday if you go with Thomas Cook. We went all-inclusive and enjoyed tasty meals. It might be better to go B and B, and go out and about for dinners. Then you support the local economy.
The staff are lovely.. but the hotel is clearly run into the ground.
Loved it. Staff friendly and helpful. Great place to stay.
I had a great time. Fantastic location and very friendly and helpful staff.
Staff friendly and pleasant.Food ok in the morning its the same every day.If you need to use a taxi they are just outside hotel green in colour. We used Buba Jawara (aka Bobhe was very trustworthy and reliable he was pleasant to work with.
The only good things about this is the bed and breakfast. Swimming pool 4/5. You need to play for fan or air conditioning you will not survive without its 10£ a day its ridiculous in such a hot country!
Went in 2015Superb holiday, with VERY friendly staff, always willing to help.Nice hotel, very clean, good pool with plenty of sunbathing options.Very close to the beach, but be aware everyone wants to be your friend, and they never forget you if you say maybe next time!!!Plenty of places to see and do like the alligator museum and monkey place!!They were building a giant Lion enclosure for bubu the lion.Do not be afraid to ask the locals for taxis or even guides.. Always take the green cars.
Hotel is fairly comfortable. Its a bit dated and could do with a deep clean and a refurbishment in both the rooms and public areas however the pool and surrounding areas are cleaned regularly. Wifi is available in the pool area and the reception although it is only suitable for browsing, facebook etc. Breakfast is a mix of hot and continental food and some items change on a daily basis. Its nearby a fair selection of decent, restaurants to suit most tastes and there is a supermarket across the road along with various local fruit sellers. Hotel staff all seemed very pleasant although a bit of basic attention to detail (ensuring enough plates and cutlerywould be an improvement. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning in the future.
Great value for money.....its basic. If youre not fussy its great. People are very friendly and helpful. A great place to start and experience The Gambia. The odd power cut in the evening which lasts about 5 mins but that just adds to the charm of the place. Go and find out and explore!!
The management and owners in this hotel are vile. They treat the staff disgustingly in front of guests and pay them just £1 a day.The hotel itself is extremely backward and dated. They say its been renovated but its just a lick of paint. The staff were incredibly happy and friendly however all came and told us how they got treated during our Christmas break which was extremely upsetting.
Staff were fantastic in particular Alieu in the restaurant. Felt very safe. Very clean great pool. Would definitely go back. Housekeeper and security really helpful fun aqua aerobics and used the gym a few times. Breakfast fine. Near beach and monkey park. Good restaurants within walking distance simba great food and service and cafe Denmark. Fab ice cream.
