Smart India Mount Maunganui - Indian restaurant in Tauranga, New Zealand
Very disappointed today, we went to restaurant and sat down and waiting for menu and drank water while checking the menu, but,we could not finding exactly what we want to order. Then we decided to leave the place immediately but customer service lady spoke very rude and told us, we can not drink water without placing any order. This is very bad behaviour.
I love this place! Always nice service, amazing food! The mix pakora and Chicken Punjabi are my favourites! We drive from Pap East to enjoy this great restaurant!
We Visited a Smart India Restaurant in Mount Maunganui food was good the service was A++ Excellent you cant get any better Front staff than Savi she is top lady in Hospitality.
Loved it, great price and brilliant service.
Great vegan options (dal tadka, sag aloo, channa, mushroom). Reasonably priced and great location.
The best garlic naan in tauranga by far.Thought great spice butter chicken was good, this just as good if not better.
We started going here when they first opened more than 10 years ago. Still the best curry in Tauranga. Their Lamb Do Piaza is the best by far. High recommend Sunil and his friendly staff
This is absolutely my favourite place in Mount Maunganui. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I and my friends , family always delighted with the meals the chef cook for us . Thank you 😊 Highly Recommended.
The most disgraceful place I have ever been too. Not recommended at all, the staff is really unprofessional doesnt know how to speak to the customers.
Fantastic every time. Best saag I’ve ever had. Malai kofta 👌🏻
I’ve traveled extensively throughout India in my younger years and smart India is hands down the closest I’ve come to an authentic experience in NZ
Awesome cooked meals and a reasonable size and a reasonable price and a gd selection 2 choose from like goat beef or chicken and a gd selection of drinks and alcoholic or sort drinks for the children
Ive been here a few times now. Smart India is my go to.. I live in Tauranga so its a 15 minute drive. Well worth the trip.Im slowly working my way through the menu and have enjoyed all the meals.Excellent service, top meals full of flavour and decent sized.
I always come here and it’s so delicious
Worst indian restaurant with poor serviceThey don’t know anything about hospitalityManager should learn some manners how to treat customers
Very bad experience. Rude behaviour, didn’t allow my kids to finish there dinner. Not recommended.
Ive eaten here a few times and the food and service is excellent! Ill definitely be back!
Delicious Indian food. Especially loved their manchurian.
One of the best Indian restaurants. Always get the vegan mushroom mutter korma and either the spinach curry or lentils and it is ALWAYS delicious!
So disappointed with quantity of food they provide to customers. We placed our order worth with $200 around 2 weeks ago. Not happy at all with whatever they gave us. The containers were half filled only. However they charged full amount of money for that. Also we had to wait for more than an hour for it. Such a waste of money and time for us.
Just 1 star for food, ZERO for the customer service. The Manager LADY(****should learn some mannerse ...This is New Zealand dont forget that.
There are several classes of Indian restaurant. First, theres the top-tier/fine dining class of Indian restaurant. Ive never visited or seen one of these, nor do I know whether they actually exist. Presumably they must. Then youve got the bottom tier of street curry which you eat with plastic forks for $6.50. In the middle youve got the reliable Indian restaurant that we all know and love.Smart India is near the top of that middle tier. Nine thumbs up.
The most tasty Chicken Korma I think I’ve ever had?! So much flavour & a great price for the size you get!
I love good quality Indian food and this place definitely delivers! each dish is so beautifully presented, There are so many delicious sounding dishes & it was hard to decide but the entree I ordered were delicious mouthfuls revving up your appetite. more generous main dishes which were such a highlight! The lamb do-piza curry was fork tender with a deep, earthy flavour. Utterly delicious. The Butter chicken had a rich, slightly spicy sauce & the tender, The naan is so crispy and soft as the same time. Loved the mango lassi here which is thick, creamy & pretty and a wine list with a great selection & prices was easy to choose from. To top it off the service was so friendly & attentive. Highly enjoyable!
This is worst experience i ever have had with Indian restaurant even i am Indian to. I ordered food which took 50 minutes for pick up but after picking up i opened food bag when i come back home which was quite far from restaurant smart india mt maunganui cos other restaurants were not opened cos of Christmas eve but they packed me wrong food . When i rung her about wrong order she was blaming me that she was right and i ordered wrong food but when i said i am 100% sure what i ordered then she loose her temper and start swearing at me like f words but when i replied then she pretended nothing happened and don’t want to do anything about this. Its not my first time its 3 time this happened but this time she used f word which was really rude. So i ended up giving them this feed back so actually they work on this and respect their customers instead swearing at them. The lady at the reception is so rude i hv never seen anyone like this in my life so rude so rude i am never coming back to this restaurant not even my any single friend. Biggest regret to get a food from smart india.
I had ordered chicken biryani and what I got was pieces of chicken and turmeric rice. I am sure the chef doesnt know what biryani is.Highly disappointed..!
I have had 2 curries yesterday and the meat was so hard it wasn’t easy to chew - both curries were same. Very disappointed from the food.
Dear ownerWe absolutely love your food and visited so many times and your male customer service was awesome(?Deepik). Today 9/10/21 my whole family (9 membersdecided to eat at your restaurant again but when your female customer service saw us, she appeared very unhappy and frustrated. Im sorry but she has absolutely no idea how to deal with customers. If she will carry on like this, she will damage your old customers. Please give her AL, maybe shes over it from working and need some time off or some sort education. Beacuse of her, we felt very uncomfortable sitting on table and all decided to leave without eating. My whole family did not felt welcomed.
My wife, kids and I have loved indian food , ever since we had our visit to India. FINALLY, weve found an incredible Indian restaurant!!! Not only was the food amazing but the service was impeccable! Thank you to the beautiful people that cooked and served our food tonight. We will definitely be back again! Highly recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine.
Smart India has the best butter chicken I have ever tasted. The staff are friendly and helpful. We have been getting Indian meals from Smart India for the past two years and they are our go to. And their garlic naan breads are delicious!
Stopped in for some lunch on a cold day in the mount. Plesent little place. With friendly staff. I ordered a Dal Curry of the Lunch Special Menu. Great flavour. Decent portion . Their Garlic Nhan was a decent sizes and had lots of garlic.
Very good staff. Butter chicken best I have had anywhere. Always have it with garlic naan. Top food super clean, friendly..
Everything we ordered was delicious and full of all the right flavours. Service was very friendly and the Garlic Naan was quite possibly the best I’ve ever had.
Had a rather humiliating experience here. If I could give them a zero I would. Walked in and was given menus and seated. The woman returned very promptly to ask what we wanted to order, we told her we hadn’t decided yet. She said then, “We are closed” very abruptly in front of the other seated customers who were still dining (it was 1.30, on Checking apparently they close at 2 or 2.30 depending on where you look). We then asked it she wanted us to leave, however she said no, she just wanted us to order quickly. We then asked if we could just order somethings off the snack menu to save time, she then said there is still time. We ordered, but just snacks as I didn’t want to order whole meals and be left with no time to eat them. She brought them out in a takeaway bag and we paid. We sat back down to eat them as we have children and thought it easier and there were still people in the restaurant, she came over and said we were not able to sit and eat and that we had to leave. She was so unbelievably rude, we were so shocked! And this was all done in front of other diners. The mount is full of fantastic places to dine, with amazing customer service. I would highly recommend you dine at one of those and not support business who treat customers so poorly. When we walk past at about 2.15pm, the open sign was still flashing with people inside. Maybe we didn’t spend enough to be treated kindly. And the food we ordered...bland.
Food is the great!! Every single dish which we have ordered there was delicious. Amazing service. Will go back !
Ordered veggie korma and it was just frozen vegetables in a korma sauce. Also ordered shahi Paneer and was exactly the same sauce which was not very flavoursome. Garlic naans tasted horrible as the butter seemed off. A disappointing waste of money. I will never order from Smar Indian again. Would not recommend!
I dont know if we are just precious and have had only amazing Indian in the past but the dish we got was tasteless and no spice when we requested it. Was very surprised by its high rating. Hope its different for others.
Best Indian place in Tauranga, would nearly venture to say all of New Zealand. Amazing food, fantastic staff and good vibes always. The naan is super soft but crispy and delicious and the food is always just the right spice level. Plus, everything is reasonably priced considering the generous portions. Preet delivered to our house rain or shine... if you want Indian food in this area, this is the place to get it!!!
Smart India has a very tasty range of curries the lamb saagwala is a very nice spinach curry sweet n spicy. The Goat Madras is my fave, coconut curry, unbeatable flavour, yum yum, service was good so will definitely return when the craving for great curry comes on us again. The menu looks pretty good too with other indian delights to try
The dinner was SO GOOD! The prices are amazing but the staff could be more friendly, the working climate is not quite nice. At least on the evening when weve been there. The service is fast and take-away is possible here!
Excellent. Out of all the butter chickens I have indulged upon, this takes the cake. Smart India deserves more recognition than they get now. I drove an hour and a half just to eat their butter chicken for lunch, and if I could rate it 6 stars I would.
Food is good, place is neat and clean. The staff is polite and ready to service and help with all details.Menu has variety but can be include more diversity
One of our better dinners in New Zealand! We ordered a lot and enjoyed everything. The clams were so fresh and tasty. I dont remember the appetizer or my husbands dinner, but I do remember ordering and inhaling the amazing donut dessert. WOW. The chocolate injector into the warm cinnamon sugar donut was fun and delicious.
Came here last night, the food was amazing. Group of friends were all satisfied with the food and great customer service. We had the young very friendly Indian girl waitress look after us. Please pass her our regards and give her a pay rise
I dont really want to share this review as Smart India is the jewel in the crown as far as Indian cuisine goes. The food here is out of this world, simply first class. Staff are friendly and helpful. Have visited many times and have never been disappointed. Just hope I can get a seat now I have shared this amazing place with you!
Absolutely fantastic experience. Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Food was amazing, best we have had in a long time (and we love our Indian food!). Would heartily recommend this restaurant.
Nice food and waiter asked how we are doing few times, packed left over for us. Good experience.
Awesome restaurant, the food was amazing and friendly staff. Their vegetarian range seems fabulous I can say this because I had couple of dishes and were amazing. I would suggest this place to anyone who love Indian cuisine. I went to this restaurant at the last minute of the Day (I was on tour and tired of finding a good restaurants aroundand they happily received and served food.
One of the best restaurants in New Zealand for Indian food. We went for a holiday to Mt Maunganui and looked at the best rated restaurants on Google. The service was of high standard and the food was delicious. Special thanks to the manager on duty for looking after us. I will surely go again.
Were so glad to have discovered this little place. Its casual, cozy, and friendly which makes it a comfortable place to be. And the food is wonderful! We had butter chicken that was really good, but our favorite was the chicken tikka masala which was exceptional! We love ordering it with a side of garlic naan or a roti, spooning it in along with some rice and eating it burrito style. Note: They have lunch specials that are a great bargain. Highly recommended.
