Floor-to-ceiling windows frame river views at this airy Modern European with 1950s design touches.
Had a wine tasting session here. 5 different wines with charcuterie. Great Italian Gentleman sommelier. Thoroughly enjoyed. Would recommend.
Mixed review. The food was nice and I enjoyed the live music and views. However, several of the staff made us feel rushed and unwelcome from the get go, which really brought the tone down. An underwhelming experience for the price we paid.
Wow, what a fantastic experience we had dining with you on Sunday (25/09/22). Staff were brilliant - so attentive to our needs and very smiley and friendly! The food was exceptional! And our glasses were always topped up! Will definitely be back on our next visit to London.
A spectacular period room, and a famous restaurant. But ultimately Skylon is a bit of a disappointment. Its ok, fine, but the food never really sings. For the prices, for what its aiming to be, it doesnt quite click. Its a destination restaurant without destination food. So it will do, but there are places Id rather go for less.
Think the bar area could do with a bit of spritz, but the cheesy chips followed by a cocktail were very very nice after work, as was the marvellous retro surroundings and friendly, expert cocktailistas x
Pretty decent. Good place to meet for a drink newr Waterloo while planning next steps - its more restaurant than a bar, so seating is geared more towards couples at the windows or larger seated parties.
We had a lovely celebration at Skylon. They reached a high standard in serving us. The crew payed attention to our needs and was flexible as well. Thank you, well done!
Incredible dinner at Skylon from start to finish. They accommodated our late booking we were looking for a relaxed setting with views and great food and our expectations were exceeded by miles! The food was to die for (they were out of oysters but the other starter options were gorgeous). We got the burger which was textbook perfect - delicious and the duck that was outstanding. Gorgeous and good sized portions. They knew about our special occasions and they brought our desserts out with candles! Service was perfect and our experience was made even better by Mihela an absolute star. Well be back!
The venue looks a bit dated. Embarrassingly it tries to be grander than it is. The set menu is just dreadful. Even the coffee was mediocre. I realise hardly anyone takes sugar these days but i still didnt expect the only sugar available would be caster sugar. The air conditioner wasnt working and the place felt like a sauna. There were a lot of staff wandering around doing nothing. The cocktails were the only thing they did well.
Wonderful atmosphere. And the personnel really puts an effort to satisfy the customer. A special Thanks to Sergio who made a special effort to the non standard requests we had. It is with employees like these that a company creates customer satisfaction and allows to spread the good word. Great place Skylon and Great job Sergio 👍
Let me start with the food, which was excellent. Truly well made and very nice. The service was not that excellent:Too aggressive upselling of cocktails, to the point it became offputting. After indicating that wed like to pay and leave i recieved the bill in a minute or two, but had to wait 15 minutes before somebody came to let me actually pay it.Furthermore, the accoustics are way off, to the point it became difficult to hold a conversation.
Food was delicious and fresh and highly enjoyable. Found the service was lacking (pushing cocktails, multiple people serving us meant there was confusion, and a few other thingsand the restaurant was very noisy as the acoustics were poor. We wont be looking to book there again, but if they can get front of house as good as back of house, then could be onto a winner.
Cannot praise this restaurant highly enough! We were given a voucher for Christmas for a Bottomless Prosecco Brunch. Boy, was it bottomless! They poured the Prosecco as fast as we could drink it and it was quite palatable. The food was excellent, so good we couldnt decide what to have and when it arrived it was some of the best food we have ever enjoyed. Staff and service great. Highly recommend!(Management: Maybe need to look at your entrance, for such a fine restaurant, it did feel like we came in through the staff entrance.)
The idea is better than the reality here. The view of the river is lovely - but I had a corner table which was really just a view of some generator. The food was ok. But just ok which meant it was overpriced for what it was. The staff were pleasant and professional. I wouldn’t rush back.
I find some of the reviews to be harsh.I was greeted with so much professionalism from Martha and Miha. Our waiter was very professional and welcoming. Asking us if we liked the food. Definitely a great place for bottomless prosecco five stars from me
We had a lovely meal and great service. Maria looked after us really well and moved us to a window table half way through our meal. The live music was very good but a little loud though were regular customers and this isnt normally an issue. We would highly recommend Skylon is a great place to eat in London both for food and location.
My friend and I went to Skylon for after dinner drinks on a Saturday evening. We did not have a reservation and it was very full but the kind front of house staff found a place at the bar for us and said a couple were just about to leave so we could have their table as soon as they left. Skylon had a great, buzzing atmosphere and it was very busy. The service was good but the drinks menu looked quite tattered. We would have liked window seats to have the great views of the river but they were all reserved. The drinks were expensive but that was to be expected. We were sat near the exit of the kitchen and viewed a whole array of wonderful looking food. We will be back to savour some of the food and get those window seats.
My friend got us a Thames view weekend brunch with free-flowing Prosecco that we attended last Saturday. The service was really good and the staff really friendly and fun. The food was excellent and they werent kidding about the "free-flowing" Prosecco! I never had even a half empty glass! The staff were super attentive and couldnt do enough to make your visit an enjoyable one. Carlo and Sergio in particular, really made us laugh! I would highly recommend this place and intend to book another table there as soon as Ive sobered up!
Originally turned away due to an ongoing gin masterclass, the manager Maria sought to find a solution and offered us a solution of no mixed drinks. We only wanted a pour anyways so this worked perfect and she ended up saving the day. Very appreciative of people like Maria going the extra mile to provide a good experience! 10/10 recommend this place!
Lovely location, great views and good food! The staff were good and attentive. Food was well presented and of great quality. The main selling point of this restaurant is the location overlooking the Thames and if you manage to get a sunset booking its quite romantic! The decor is fantastic and of its era. A huge selection of wines on offer so theres something for everyone. Clientele ranged from families to small groups of friends to dates, very accommodating atmosphere!
Very poor table service, long delays waiting for cocktails and the restaurant wasn’t busy, then when received they were the wrong ones.. Margarita’s had no salt on the glass they just poured it into the drink. Food of standard quality and servings are minuscule for the prices paid.. would not return.. Don’t give them your email address .. constant spamming……
Stylish restaurant with views of the Southbank. Menu is a bit prizey for the food you get, but of course there you are paying for the atmosphere. Good service
Absolutely LOVED Skylon. I went for the bottomless brunch, and loved that wine was included aswell as prosecco. Beautiful restaurant with views of London, live music/saxophone player, delicious food, brilliant service. Couldn’t fault it. Will definitely be going back here.
Location and views is spot on! Food was lovely, but the service needs alot improvement. I asked for the drinks menu after our meal, 40 mins went by and no drinks menu ( we were soo lost in conversation which is why it took us soo long to realise they did not bring the menuwe then asked for the bill, another 30 minutes went by before I decided to flag someone down to bring us our bill... not impressed at all and most likely wont recommend and return!!
I wasnt overly impressed with Skylon. Been wanting to go for a long time and finally managed a visit. Staff polite but not very passionate/engaging. Interior very uninspiring. Two tables next to us had been cleared but not cleaned or reset, didnt help improve the lacking ambience. Food was well cooked but the set menu was uninspiring. Single grilled chicken breast with some truffle mash tasted nice but nothing special. £205 for arrival cocktails, three courses and a bottle of wine for 3. Hmmm dont think Ill rush back.
What a great experience!I’ve been meaning to come here for a long time now and it did not disappoint. Even choosing a meal was difficult as everything on the menu sounded incredible.Went with pumpkin soup, the duck and the steak in the end and mouthwatering is an understatement. To icing on the cake, the service was top notch and the ambience was perfect.I look forward to trying more of the menu- would highly recommend!
Absolutely gorgeous meal here! With great views also. The scallops starter was to die for. Managed to get a table without making a reservation which was extremely lucky. Staff was very friendly. Great decor and atmosphere. Really impressed 👍🏼
Utter garbage. The set menu is a fraud, this place does not represent D&D whatsoever. The terrine and slice of toast with pickle from a jar, followed by mediocre mains and a so called crumble which is 2mm of filling under about 3 inches of muesli. I told the waitress the starter was terrible and she laughed. I told the other staff I was not paying for the starter and they knocked £10 off my bill. I booked and stated it was a birthday booking, no acknowledgement of that, no birthday plate absolutely f all from this place. No wonder it had availability where all the other better restaurants I wanted to visit were fully booked for December. Not to mention sticky tables, dilapidated toilets. Do not visit this place. I wish I have booked elsewhere or just stayed at home.
The restaurant looks very nice, has a great views, good food however the service lets it completely down.We went to a show and told the person taking our order we only had 1hr 30. So we chose from the 3 course set menu. The time between the courses was terrible. It’s like they forgot we were there.Since the gap between to courses was so long we had to stop the dessert. When we did this we asked for the bill. It came to us with the dessert where we again described that we didn’t want the dessert as we were now out of time. They did take the desserts off however I quickly paid for the meal I didn’t notice the billThere was a 13% service charge on it I would have taken off the bill as it wasn’t deserved. The poor table next to us had to get up to get their wine as it was in an ice bucket near the table but no one was topping up their wine. The rest of the experience was good but very let down on the service. One good step would be empowering their colleagues to be able to make decisions rather than having to get a manager who then take as a long time to come to the table
The food was nice and the customer service was very good. I just thought overall I would have got more for the price we paid.
Most exquisite food in all three courses ! The steak tartare was beautifully marinated and well balanced with a soft and scrumptious soft boiled egg melting into the beef, the beetroot and the spring onion. My companions scallops was also cooked and sauced in perfect balance. Then the mains of the duck breast was a knockout, skin still crispy and a deep thick juicy tender meat under. The hazelnut ice cream was a delight. The service was charming but a bit on the slow side all the time. The atmosphere in this bright delightful room facing the river was always airy and relaxing. You can hear yourself and your companion speak and no irritating thoughtless background music. A bit over pricey. Recommended.
I cannot believe we paid almost £1000 for such tasteless food. The food I had was below average. No exaggeration. I took a bite off all my friends foods and everything was bland. It wasnt value for money. Id give a 1* but the only reason Ive said 2* is because of the friendly staff and nice ambiance.I requested for halal chicken and they didnt even have it on the day. Overall NOT happy so dont waste your money here :)The ambiance of this place is just wow and the service of some of the staff member is outstanding however everything was so bland and tasteless.. other than the chocolate bomb, I didnt like the taste of a single thing and would not suggest anyone to waste their money buying anything from here.. but overall I had a good experience because my friends made my evening so special and it was their company that made it up for the tasteless menu.
Excellent location and vibe. There was a live saxophone performance when we visited. The food was average and not a good value for money. Not many options for vegan guests either. The service can be significantly improved.
We came here for a celebratory lunch. The service (from Marcowas second to none but we had to send the duck back because it was overdone having already waited a very long time for our mains. In the end it was good but at this level you expect better.
We visited for its Saxybrunch for the bank holiday. Its a great space in a great location. The food was incredible, the staff amazing and such a nice way to spend some time with good friends. Ive been before and will keep going back. 10/10 👏🏾
Update: we returned to try Skylon again with a lovely invite from the new General Manager. The review has gone from a 1 to a 5 star. Wonderful food and incredible service. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The last visit was a one off - please do take a trip to Skylon!
What a great place to have a lunch, Very good set menu choice and interesting wine list. Staff are very efficient and friendly. Enjoyed a a delicious cocktail at the end of meal whilst looking at views over the Thames
Amazing hosts to really tasty food. The salmon was shredded but went well with the English muffins. We also received complimentary sorbet that reminded me of amazing sorbet I enjoed in Zcre, Croatia.
Great location, Friendly and accommodating staff !We choose fresh and juicy oysters, 😋, eggs benedict, avocado toast, chicken! The incredible surprise were the sweets.: do not miss the Eton mess & the creme broulė !
Visited in September for a joint birthday of my dad and sister and have to admit, I would rather have picked somewhere else entirely for what is meant to be portrayed as a "dress up dinner" venue.Service was poor - from initial booking on the website asking about "special requests or notes" - I had asked for a window view/ best view possible for the restaurant and river (considering its marketed as a viewpoint kind of restaurantand we were seated right near the door and in the centre of the restaurant (considering it was cold in the evening this wasnt appreciated). When we asked to move the waiters and staff looked at our party In disgust as if they took offence. They were slow on service the whole night and then said they couldnt allow us to cut the birthday day we had brought without charging us an extra £5 per head (£25 extra on top of what was already a £250 bill), or we had to order a dessert in order for them to allow it.The food was the only thing that made up for the experience but even that came seriously delayed and portion sizes were quite small, which would have been OK if the food quality was higher.Overall a very disappointing visit, and I wouldnt recommend believing their website or marketing for being a premium kind of restaurant. Its definitely somewhere I wont be returning again.
The view of the riverfront on one side of the restaurant is amazing (see photo. We both ordered crab as a starter which was delicious. It wasnt a whole half shell but it was most crab meat presented beautifully on the plate as opposed to being mostly mayonnaise. We ordered the Venison Wellington for 2 which unfortunately took a while to come. The waiters were very apologetic. I will point out that they were stingy with the bread which if our main had been quicker would have been acceptable. We waited for over an hour though and I needed more bread! The spread that arrived with the Wellington was large and delicious. It came with many different vegetables and the Wellington itself was sublime.Sadly, it got to 10pm so we could not explore the dessert menu but the service was excellent despite our main taking so long. However, we both agreed that the main was well worth the wait.
Full Review on winejam YouTube.... Great food, and good wine list, a marcilliac for those who wants something they have never tried, good service, with a sommelier on hand. Outside area and inside area disconnected in a way. The decor inside expected more seemed unnecessary simple with good pieces of light fixtures and glitzy bar and mirrored tables nice touch. Very small groups, working lunch and couples vibe. Relaxed feel.
Im not usually one to visit such a nice and high class place, so I dont really have anything to compare this place to but I dont think I would want to compare it to anywhere else. Its such a lovely establishment. My partner and I attended a Gin masterclass (I learnt so much and got very tipsyfollowed by a 3 course lunch. The staff were amazing and very accommodating, and made us feel so very welcome. The food was great, I always thought fancy places with small plates were silly, but Ive changed my mind. I was so full after my lunch. Ive added some pictures to show you the amazing presentation. Also, it was our 4th anniversary, and they surprised us with a little chocolate treat (we ate that before I took a photo, sorry!on a cute little chocolate written Happy Anniversary plate. Thank you so much to the staff there, we will definitely be visiting again! I would like to add about the view also, we had a window seat, and sitting whilst looking out at the river was lovely, even in the rain!
Loved it. Great big windows onto the Thames and far bank buildings from the South Bank centre. Good menu and wine list. Not the cheapest but very relaxed feel. Really good staff too. £208 for 3 course Sunday lunch for 3 people.
Views overlooking the Thames and the South Bank but that’s not all. Food at Skylon is very good. Service is also friendly and efficient. Worth a visit for comfort food.I do however, agree with the comment that It has a kind of a weird vibe. Doesnt feel quite as classy as the pictures make it look. Maybe because the indoor space is so large it has a sort of convention center feel. Lots of potential due to the quality of the food, but the atmosphere could use a bit of freshening up.
I reluctantly have to give 3 stars and I will explain why.The food is superb, I had the salmon and it was maybe the best salmon I ate in London and the staff is fantastic, theyre always there to help you if you need anything. The somelier was not so trained as my boyfriend ask him something about the wine and he said"I dont know, sorry" and "Ask someone else", not acceptable I think. Also, weve been there for our 5th anniversary and everything supposed to be perfect, my partner also asked the team to prepare something special and they prepared that chocolate rock I have attached as a picture. It was hard as a rock and not tasty at all, also the preparation was so sad.As I worked for D&D in the past, I know the standards and I would have expect better from a D&D restaurant, especially for such a special occasion like an anniversary.Thats a pity because the food is very good, so I suggest you to train better your sommeliers and WOW your guests more.
We have been in Skylon before and everything was very nice, this time the girl at the reception told us that she can’t give us table near the window because they are on “first come first serve”, which was funny because there were no other customer in sight, plus we booked the restaurant at least a week in advance. We thought it was not friendly and inappropriate remark. Otherwise the meal and service was up to usual standards and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Full marks on non-alcoholic Strawberry 🍓 mojito and gluten bread 🥯 on request.
A very nice restaurant housed inside the South Centre which is located along the Thames River bank. It has an excellent view but if you want to enjoy the sunset, you better pick a later time in the evening as sun beans are still strong until late afternoon in summer time period. The foods are good and prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly as well.
A pre-concert three course fixed price menu including a glass of wine was good value for what is great food and most wonderful surroundings. You do have to be a fan of the quite brutalist architecture of the Royal Festival Hall, if not the restaurant is decked out with softer touches - amazing floral displays when we visited and of course the back drop of the river and the other clientele. There is a great bar that does good cocktails if you just want to appreciate the space and ambience! If you liked this review, please Like it!
We went to the grill bar part of the place and had a great view for the river. The waiter and waitresses gave all attention and service. The food was great the salmon and egg was a bit salty for my friend but the duck, steak and desert was just great. Its a bit pricy but there was nothing that we could have complained about. You can enter via he Festival Hall or the dedicated stairs which is the quiet way to enter and/or exit. The Hall normally is very busy. There is a lift there that you can use though. The bar is huge and can make any drinks you want, but dont expect huge (normalglass for cocktails. The restaurant part (white table cloth tablessupposed to have different menu so check before you chose.
