Founded in 1926, the 12-hectare zoo houses many animal species, an educational center & a play area.
Lovely place to visit with kids anytime weekday.
Good place for visit , needs improvments place/conditions of animals where they are.. seems very poor!
Really nice place but also crowded with people who are waiting for parking and in line for tickets.
Very nice animal zoo place for visiting and recreation for kids.
Gorgeus, but not so sure about the safety between animals and visitors..
Great place to spend time with the kiddos ... They have a lot of animals and playgrounds for kids. Some enclosures could use some maintaining but overall good experience!
It all was very interesting, BUT the state of animals and state of their cage was horrible. Some of them better some of them worse... Unfortunately Zoo need more care about those animals. For example bear 🐻 stays under the sun +35 Celsius for the whole day! That is just horrible...I was very impressed by the small kids Zoo, where guests has opportunity to feed rabbits, ducks and pig. Had more emotions from that one than from the whole Zoo!
Not bad, but a lot of places were empty and abandoned with no animals in them. It is a good value for money though, but I prefer to pay a little more to see well treated, and possibly more exotic animals, like capybaras, etc (my son asked me to mention capybara, as he loves them 😄)
Animals:🦒🐘🦛🦓🐪🐅🐆🦘🐊🐏🦙🦢🦩🦨🦡🦝🦜🦚🐈🦌🐐🐿🦭🐍🦉🦅🐒🕒Time to visit: 2 hours before sunset as the will be fewer people and more animals outside cages. You need ~2 hours to see all animals💰Price: 80mkd (~€1.5any day of the week💧Food: you can buy water inside, but it cheaper is to pick up water in the shop located 50 m on the left from the entrance.☀️☁️Weather: there are almost no roof-covered places inside. Very hot or rainy weather may be a problem.🚾 yes, inside👍Overall score: definitely worse to visit even if you have less than a week in Skopje
Wonderful place!! Been visiting since I was a kid and have to say that they keep improving more and more either very visit. You can interact with the animals and simply enjoy a closer view than you would in other European zoos. There’s also cafes that you can go to and relax at! Definitely reccomend
Good zoo with low price. Its 80MKD (euro and 20 centsper person. Inside the zoo has a baby zoo, if you go you shoud visit this for aditional 20MKD, they will provide some food and you can feed the animals such as rabbits, turtles, pigs, chicken. Make sure that you gonna be around sea lions around 2 pm, they feed them and has a small show. Also there is coffee and snacks shops around and it is cheap as well.
We enjoyed it for the most part. The animals and their enclosures do not look like they are taken care of in the best way possible. The water for the penguins and seals looks dirty and foggy. It was pretty hot when we went, but we did manage to see most animals. There are a lot of empty enclosures. We managed to see the feeding of the seals. That was fun to watch, it was like a mini show. Shows are not a thing at this zoo, so it was definitely the highlight of the day.Bring your own food, they only offer snacks. It would be great if they offered some sandwiches.Free parking is very limited, but theres additional parking which is paid per hour. Also, we were a little annoyed that the baby zoo had additional charge. Granted, its not a lot of money and you do get some food to feed the animals, but it should not be mandatory (if you want to just walk and not feed them), or should be included in the admission price.
Awesome zoo with a lot of animals to see. Clean and friendly staff, birthdays are sometimes celebrated there. Definitely recommend going to it.
Tickets should be more expensive so the animals can be taken care of better. Some animals really look like they are struggling. Maybe the water in the penguin cage and sea lion cage should be changed more often as it seemed quite green. There are lots of empty cages while some of the cages with animals seemed too small for the them. Definitely think junk food should be banned from the zoo as people have demonstrated that they do not care about the health of the animals.
This has once been a beautiful zoo, but - as with many things in Skopje - time has left it behind now. The information signs are broken, faded and only in macedonian and the QR codes for the mobile interface are missing. Most animals have very small cages and there are many of them there. The animals were suffering from the extreme heat and I couldnt see that theyd be doing anything about that. Some cages had their pools dried up at almost 40°C and some had the greenest water Ive seen, which indicates that they dont clean them that often. Its only 80mkd to visit and can be fun for the kids, but anyone old enough to realize how bad the zoo is nowadays should avoid it.
Cheap entry (80mkdbut animals look depressed and enclosures are small. Hot day and most didnt even have water
What a disgrace!!! Absolute heart wrenching experience watching miserable, malnourished, Ill animals in tiny enclosures with no fresh water in sight!! ( the elephantsso sadWho cares that it’s cheap to enter when the lack of treatment and care to the animals to help the countries tourism is unacceptable!! Close it down!!!!!!!!No zoo keepers in sight? Rubble and abandoned buildings on site?? Old run down horrible green murky water for the penguins?Who on earth is giving this zoo 5 star? Obviously staff or locals falsely reviewing in order for the zoo to remain open?Come and see the zoo’s in Australia to see how animals are respected and looked after!!Pathetic country, will never return, even though my parents were born here!It doesn’t deserve 1 star but you can’t review without choosing! We need to call the wildlife conservation society to come and close it down!!!!
I hate to bad mouth any business operator, the zoo at 90MCD is incredible value, but it needs significant investment and one way would be to raise the admittance fee. When we went June 2022 there were huge areas closed off and a lot of missing animals.People in general don’t mind paying to get more value and I cannot help but think moving the price to 200MDC (about 3 euroswould help this venue, obviously as a tourist I know little about the way the zoo is funded, but I do understand that a bigger cash injection would significantly alter the experience for the public and the animals.I hope this zoo survives and that more visit to make it better, but it’s business model as it stands seems doomed to fail. The zoo has lots of great animals, however many of the signs are missing telling you what is in the enclosure, sometimes the wrong sign is on the enclosure, sometimes there are no animals at all.For the money it’s a good experience, but don’t expect a classy visit.
I LOVE ALL THE LIL ANIMALS I WANNA KISS THEM ALL, GIVE EM A LIL CUDDLE
Good zoo, big variety of animals
Amazing value. 80 dinar entrance ticket - Ive never seen a zoo this cheap. Plenty of animals to see. Not many signs in English about the animals but for this price that isnt a worry. Highly recommended seeing this zoo.
If you want to have a great time in Skopje, you should visit its zoo park. Also, entrance is very cheap!
The zoo was much nicer than we expected and the animals seemed taken care of. There were several areas which were closed, we werent sure why.My 4 year old and 11months old baby had a good time.
Much improved since many years ago...Still a lot to improve on looking after the animals. Overall nothing to remember ...If you have nothing to do in Skopje you can spend a small amount of money and go for a visit...
Nice spot for couple of hours family relaxation.Great place for kids.Probably is not so fair to close the animals for human fun, but on other hand is it very nice for the kids to see in live some animals, that probably they wont meet on other place in their lives. I mean about lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, camels, penguins, and some other animals from different continents.I have small kids and Baby Zoo - the place in the Zoo where you can feed rabbits, hamsters, ducks, goats is great for me. My son, at 2, was there one hour playing with that cute animals and he didnt want to go out from there.Dino park is also new content within the zoo, at the begining it was too crowded, in the weekend is also crowded so i recommend to visit it in the working days (from monday to friday), or in the afternoon hours during the weekends.
If you want to spend some quality time in Shkup, this is the perfect place to go.There is a parking lot in front of the zoo which is not expensive (40 denars or 0.80€).The zoo inside is very spacious, a lot of benches on which you can sit. There is a cafe and a little train in which you can go around. The employees are very kind and they take good care of the animals. There are a lot of animals and I have posted a few of them. 📷Highly recommended.
Liked it a lot. Lots of animals to see. It is a good visit, especially if it is a sunny day. Very good for long family walk. They have a lot to offer. You ca sit and enjoy in a coffee bar (vaccines are obligatory), you can eat in spizzicato for a tasty pizza, eat ice cream, ride a pony, feed the animals, take pictures, organise a birthday party, carousel for toddlers, swings and playgrounds too. Would love to see more animals. They have to work a bit on hygiene though
Worst zoo Ive ever visited. The animals live in such poor conditions and seem unhappy. Most bigger animals are living in dirt pits, with no access to clear drinking water. Besides that, the park seems to care more about advertising than about creating a natural environment for their animals and keeping them happy. The iguana terrarium contained a forgotten bottle of cleaning spray and some of the snakes didnt even have lights to keep them healthy. Stay away from this place if you care about animal wellbeing.
Cheap tickets, descent size zoo. Lot of pats were closed, so we couldnt come close to all animals 😔 overall, the experience was okay.
A great like zoo to visit in the heart of Skopje! Very reasonably priced, great place to take children. You can also ride the ponies.
Beautiful zoo with a wide garden. Good variety of animals which seem to be treated OK. Just 1.5 kilometres from city center. We prefered to walk. It was worth the walk. Nice zoo... Recommended!
Didn’t have all the animals but had a lot.I wish they would have a little bit better conditions for some animals. The entrance was very cheap!!!A good place to spend half of the day if you are very passionate about wild animals.
It is so much better than it used to be, the enclosures look better, there are more toys for the animals and it is visible that the zookeepers care about them. The main problem after all, are the visitors that dont care about the animals and the environment, leaving trash, plastic bottels and plastic bags everywhere, a small rabbit almost chocked trying to eat the plastic bag that a kid had just left and the parents didnt care or move and inch to pick it up. So the people that come iñ, are the major issue, the employees are simply outnumbered by reckless groups of infiduals that pass like a hurricane leaving so much mess behind.
Its a nice zoo in the city center. It costs just 80 MKD, less than 1.5 euro. So is very cheap and you can get very close to the animals. If you have free time I think is worth to visit.
A small, but nice zoo with many types of animals from around the world. There are playgrounds and other activities for kids which makes the zoo perfect for families to spend time together for an hour or two. However, the enclosure for the animals is small and often dirty, and you can see people feeding the animals snacks even though it is against the rules. Low admission fee but could be improved.
I have to commend the remarkable effort in recent years to renovate and modernize the zoo. Taking into consideration the state the zoo was in just a few years ago, it is absolutely delightful to see how far it has come. There are new resting areas, newly built habitats for the animals, the hygiene level is definitely higher and the staff is more experienced and organized. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement as there are some animals (like the bearswhich live in bad conditions. Overall, I am giving Skopje Zoo a positive score.
Nice as always, note to all some of the animals are meteopathich and not out after some bad weather. Other than that it was a lovely visit.
The ZOO (Macedonian: Zooloshka gradinaSkopje, Macedonia. It is home to about 300 animals representing 56 species. The Skopje ZOO is a 12-hectare (30-acreZOO in City Park (Gradski Park), founded in 1926. When it was opened, the ZOO covered only 4 hectares (9.9 acres), and exhibited only a few animals which it had received as gifts. With a decision by the Skopje city council in 1965, and the new town zoning in 1966, the ZOO was expanded to its current size.Over the years the ZOO received much criticism for the living conditions of its animals. The only elephant ever held by the ZOO died less than a year after being transferred from the Belgrade ZOO, and the chronically depressed lone Chimpanzee Koko was transferred to the AAP Primate Sanctuary in 2009.However, in 2008 the City allocated Denar 42 million in funds to improve the ZOO, and the ZOO started working with the European Association of ZOOs and Aquaria (EAZAto improve conditions and bring the ZOO up to modern standards. By 2010, 18 new enclosures had been built, 85% of the older exhibits at the ZOO had been renovated, and the ZOO was a candidate member of the EAZA.
Easily reached by bus,15A stops very close to the entrance. Here you find animals from all over the world within a quite small area. All paths are curved, so it sometimes feels like a small maze and you might miss a section. But there are signs in many of the crossings. There are several places where you can buy soft drinks and ice cream.Toilets are free. No toilet paper when I was there. One star removed since there was very litte info in English, only the names of the animals. The reason is probanly that the zoo is not that close to the city center, and there are not many tourists.
The zoo is in better shape than it was few years ago. There arent many animals but they have large areas to move. I have to say that there are abandoned places and there should be more grass. We loved to see at least two animals in every cage but we missed to see some because it was too hot and the animals were hiding. There is also a mini train but it is only for weekend tours. That is a big minus because there are many kids who would like to experience guided tour. Everything was clean but the water where hippo lives and seal should be much cleaner. Nice place for families with the kids. The ticket was 80den.
Best zoo i have ever been. Well maintained and many kinds of animals there. If you go in Skopje make sure to visit the zoo because its really worth it and the entrance is pretty cheap too!
If you are in Skopje and have 2 hours of free time, than I definitely recommend paying a visit the Skopje ZOO. For only 80 MKD (less than 1.5 EURyou get to spend quality time with your kids and family. Also you can buy special packages to be a ZOO keeper for an hour, organize a birthday there and many many more activities. Recommended visiting hours are before 1PM since they feed the animals at 2PM and after that all animals go to sleep, so you wont be seeing much.
I didnt have big expectations for this zoo, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was definitely nicer and more well-kept than I expected. Theres lot of room for improvement, but overall a good impression. The animals looked happy and well fed, it wasnt perfect but it was in a better condition than the zoo in Sofia, Bulgaria. Nice playgrounds for the kids and vending machines, that came in handy because the bars are not always open.
The zoo is pretty big. Theres a variety of animals. Theres a Caffè bar in the beginning and food stands with popcorn and other stuff. The tickets are cheap around 50MKD.You dont have to pay for kid under 3 years. The cages arent clean and theyre outdated.Theres info about every animal in front the cages. On the weekends its busy.
The zoo is better than it ever was, although it still needs a lot of improvements. New glass cages are needed. As you can not see the animals because of the dirt embedded in them. The zoo was impeccably clean, with helpful stuff looking after the animals on every 10 Min walk. There are 2 cafes where you can buy refreshments and a beautiful uphill restplace that falls between the lion, wolfs and bears
Well its nice, a lot of different species of animals, good for families with little kids to come to see, maybe they can put some effort into improving the quality of the places where they keep the animals!!! But generally I enjoy it spending some time over there!!!
The zoo in general has a decent amount of animals. Some I never saw in other Zoos before.Although it looks like its still being built and there is a lot of maintanance going on, the zoo is quite nice. the animals have very big cages comparing to other zoos I visited.Worth a visit! ALso its not expensive at all!
Visually the place needs a bit of refurbishment. It would also help if signs were installed and information idealy in English would be provided. Nonetheless, the animals seem to be kept well with big enclosures. Also great value for money and a wide variety of animals to see from land, sea and air... also a reptile room is available.
Decent place for a zoo. Probability the best in the region. Its been around ever since I was a kid (over 40 years). They have most wild animals. Entrance ticket is pretty cheap.
Located next to the City park. Entry fee: 1€. A part of the zoo was under construction. Some exhibits were great and you could really get close to the animals, but some were in bad condition and the animals looked unhappy. Also, animals acted a bit like they are trained, you know, that inauthentic feeling that they are by no means wild animals any more. But then again, some looked really authentic and acted naturally. Museum of national history is next door, entry: 1€. Nice examples of fossils and archaeological digs.
