Skol Pub - Pub in Nanaimo, Canada
Skol Pub in Nanaimo
Description
Published business hours arent real. Call first. Took the ferry over for dinner and they were already closing at 7 on a Thursday when published close is 8. Told business hours are "highly variable." Plan accordingly.
MoreSmall, old pub. Needs a makeover and like most places could use more staff
Conveniently located at the terminal with an outside deck to watch for your ferry. Cold beer, quick service, and friendly locals. Highly highly recommend. Main entrance and parking in the back
MoreWe have had lunch here four times in the past year. Food and service was great each time.
Moresuch a great pub!!! karaoke was great times :)
Great location next to the ferry.
Friendly....relaxed....great place to kick back with brew...
Nice little pub, good food, great service
Staff are friendly. Cozy atmosphere. Cheap draft happy hour
Great lunch and awesome view
Great place when on gab for a beer or two. I wish they had more breakfast options (large breakfast with bacon and eggsfor takeout
MoreWhoever was working today was so rude upon my arrival, I turned around and left stating "I would go some where else." She yelled after me "there is no where else to go!" Indeed there is - a walk up the hill to Madronas was far more appealing than dealing with someone so incredibly unwelcoming. I am actually shocked at the lack of kindness and decency there was in our interaction. I would not recommend walking in and risking being treated as such an inconvenience , youre better off heading up the hill and into town.
MoreClassic PubThey have good beer but never dine thereYou can have good time! !
After a weekend of camping ending with a breakdown and just missing the ferry went in for dinner for my family told them I’d be back in 10 - 15, only to a few minutes later here the women from inside walking across the street in the rain with our food. Wonderful service good food!!!
MoreHad a great BLT and domestic pints are extremely affordable. Hard to argue with the convenient location waiting for the ferry.
MoreSuper relaxed environment, great food and service, along with good prices!
Ordered burger and fries they are having trouble finding staff so they close early its says closed at 6pm but they stop people coming in at 530 fries are seasoned and delicious great service from 1 staff poor guy running around teting to accommodate every customer
MoreIf there was a zero I would give to this pub. Thurs to Monday 11am to 6pm are advertised hours. We show up at 5:25pm on a Saturday and door is locked. People on patio say they r closed. Even though hours say open. We ask to buy drinks to go. No way! Heat wave forget it!I would suggest everyone bypass this place as the hours are a maybe and the service is the worst ever. Certainly not a friendly welcoming. Some places should have gone under during COVID.THIS IS ONE OF THOSE PLACES.
MoreTraditional pub food, always fresh and tasty, good size portions. I found the staff to be very professional and friendly.
MoreNot following Covid protocols. None of the wait staff were wearing face coverings. None of the kitchen staff, working in tight quarters, were wearing masks. Trying to place a takeout order in the narrow space by the front door it was impossible to keep a safe social distance from others. I waited outside for my take-out order. Burger was overly salty and soggy. I will not go back.
MoreThey should have kept smoking on the deck, the after work crowd and karaoke crowd are all smokers and without the covered area they wont be returning.
MoreReally unimpressed with the food they served. The portions were very very small relative to their price. The food seemed to be of similar quality to reheated overly salted frozen food, and in spite of that, the wait for takeout was over a half hour for three appetizers and a tiny quesadilla. The only upside was that the staff seemed relatively happy and were fairly pleasant.I didnt have particularly high hopes, but I was just so disappointed and it left such a sour note to end an otherwise wonderful island trip.
MoreIncredible timing during a ferry wait, could have used more than one beer though, short staffed thanks to covid, so I am sympathetic.
MoreGreat place been cleaned up and just a good place to have a drink whether waiting for the ferry or not.
MoreGreat Space awesome staff wonderful music .... had the beef dip for lunch the other day fries were excellent sandwich was so disappointing never will I eat there again and I will always make a point of sending people else where to eat, drink and party? its the place
MoreGreat fries and quick service. Had a snack and still made the ferry.
Great atmosphere! Staff are friendly. My beer came with a frosty mug. Reminded me of a small pub I used to visit in Bideford, England.
MoreLittle pub by the Gabriola ferry. Amazing food, decent interior.. wish it was more focused towards viking heritage or a long house but thats just my opinion. :)
MoreHorrible staff, couldn’t even offer water. Very aggressive and negative even before getting in, tired saying that my group would have to leave and come right back in for a cover charge they were planning for an 8pm event when we came in at 724pm.Poorly hosted event and lack of customers, and I can completely see why
MoreNice pub overlooking the ferry terminal . Nice seating arrangement , beautiful patio n pool table. Good food and music . The bar attender was responsive and service was good . Another thing of mention is clean washrooms cause out here in Vancouver even some of the famous pubs and restaurants have dirty washrooms . All in all a beautiful experience.
MoreI have never had anything here but they let me use their toilet while I was waiting for the ferry so they will always have a place in my heart.
MoreNice location by the ferry with awful food. Have a smaller menu and do it better. Not worth a picture. Perfect for a drink on the patio while waiting for the ferry.
MoreCool little pub. Very localized, I felt, on my first and last visit.Friendly service and fast bar food. Great for an end of the day snack while waiting for the ferry.
MoreGreat relaxed atmosphere. The food is very enjoyable. You can tell the cook really cares about the quality of his food. Perfect for grabbing a quick bite waiting for the ferry. A nice spot for a couple of beers with your buddies or just some winding down time at the pub.
MoreAuthentic island pub perfect for the ferry lineup. Good selection is basic, prices good and staff cheery.
MoreWell there is only 2 pubs on Gabriola. Due to proximity this happens to be the one I frequent when I visit.Always live entertainment, yes sometimes unique making it all that much more fun.Great locals and lots of pool. It has an old seaside kinda feel to her... the pub that is Matey.Pool was free, beer was cold and with friends what else does one need?Check it people it’s a sleepy sorta place on a sleepy sorta island.
MoreSmall old pub with great service. Conveniently located near the ferry. There is a pool table where locals and travelers come for a drink.
MoreWas a great little place to get some fries and a beverage while waiting for the next ferry.
MoreWorst service ever. I understand Island time but 30 min with no service and when I went upto the barmaid I was told to go sit down and she would be right over to take our food order. After another 20 min I went to pay for our drinks that we got without being able to order food. And the new guy couldnt even find our tab. Disorganized and rude staff
MoreA great place for a beer and burger, especially if you miss the ferry! Friendly service and good eats!
MoreTry to find a better pub on the island. Fun fact, if you just missed the ferry then park in line and stop in on the deck for a snack while you wait.
MoreNice local pub. If you can make it to the mike night youll be pleasantly pleased with the level of musicians that perform.
MoreDelicious beer and burger special ! Lovely staff and clean place. Was a great meal with friends
MoreThe fish and chips were good. I would have enjoyed some coleslaw with them. Waiter was prompt, polite, and the food came out quickly.
MoreThe waitress did not seem like she wanted to serve me. Had to go up to the bar to get a menu, then to order, then to get a drink of water, and once again to get my bill and pay. The food was only okay and the hot chocolate was horrible, way to strong, not mixed completely, pretty much disgusting. It is pretty dark and dank inside considering it is right by the ocean. I can honestly say I would not go back again.
MoreDropped in Wed, Aug 23, stepped over the threshold ..just myself and my 2yr old granddaughter and asked if they did orders TO GO. Was told "yes" by the unpleasant brown haired waitress but "her Manager didnt allow kids in the building" ...I said "so how would you like me to order then" I was taken 3 feet back to the door and she took my order and would remember it. Asked to leave and come back In 10min. How ridiculous. I wasnt asking for a table, child was quiet. When I went back to get the food, half a dozen napkins were slapped on the counter I said "thanks" and she turned her back and off she went. Wow..food was ok though
MoreVery good place to come to after a good day in the sun and sit down in this good atmosphere and great staff and music . The food is great and you could miss the boat and be okay with it !
MoreBeer and burger Tuesday.. very good.Breakfast is good 2 local eggs, bacon hash browns and toast. Friendly, relaxed.
MoreNice little pub near the ferry. Great if you have some time to kill. Has a pool table and a nice patio with a view of the surrounding area.
Moresomeone mentioned dodgy. clientele and building similar to what youll find on vancouvers downtown east side. dingy dark and dirty. i wouldnt step foot in there even with the ferry waits. clean it up, gabriola. things havent changed there for a hundred years other than ownership.
