This was by far our absolute favourite accommodation during our trip around Ring Road. They greeted us by name when we arrived and gave us a full tour. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the decorating is lovely and quaint. After being in our car for so long, we were grateful for the complimentary coffee/tea, lemon water, chocolate cake and cookies. Our room was fresh and clean. The bathrooms were large, clean and very accessible. Our room had a sink, which was very handy. The beds were comfortable and I noticed that each bed had two pillows...one that was soft and one that was firmer. Our closet had a bathrobe for each of us...what a wonderful touch! The hot tub was close to the building, had a great view, and was surprisingly empty during our stay. The common sitting room was spacious and pleasant, and while we didnt cook our meals, the kitchen made me wish that we had. The breakfast was excellent--tasty and a lot of choices. Next time we will book a much longer stay here...and hope for some bad weather so that we can stay inside and enjoy all of the comforts!
Our favorite stay so far in Iceland! Comfortable beds, and very clean shared restrooms. Make sure to take advantage of the view from the hot tub.
assessments on a five point scale: beds 5/5, location 5/5, amenities (hot tub and horses4/5, comfortable rooms 3/5, friendly staff 5/5, breakfast 2/5. Northern lights 10/5.
The horse riding tour was gorgeous and the horses were really sweet and the staff very professional. We had some good tea and coffee afterwards (includedto warm up and that was the perfect ending to our experience. This place is super close to the center of Akureyri and also its cruise port!
Very nice hotel with breakfast included.
Lovely guesthouse. Very quiet and peacefull surrounding. Tasty breakfast. Comfortable beds. Great hot tub outside. Rooms with beautiful view. I highly recommend!
Hotel is highly priced with plain while hospital like rooms. Decor / interior was otherwise very beautiful in the lobby and common area.Breakfast is also decent.
Went horseriding there! Very courteous staff there and nice experience!
Nice stay, very good breakfast, excellent staff.
Ill try to keep it short, because this place + the amazing horse riding experience I had was just perfect! I got picked up by the owner of the place in her Tesla to drive me to the guesthouse. There, a Dutch woman (Ilonatook me on a nice tour around the land and a bit in the water. I was the only one on the tour so I felt super taken care of. This was amazing. I was also given a coffee and some cake and I got to spend some time in the huge (9m²hottub with views over the water and snowy mountains. 15 out of 10 would recommend!
This place is AMAZING! Definitely a great spot to visit! We did an hour horseback ride. Our guide was wonderful to chat with and the horses were so sweet! The views were amazing too-beach and mountains. Following the ride we got to take a dip in the hot tub and then had coffee and delish brownies. Everyone was very friendly and the place is super clean and cute.
We had a great experience doing an hour ride. We booked it that morning and arrived 15 minutes early. It was easy to find and parked out Motorhome without a problem. Everyone was so accommodating and the hot tub was a treat after our ride!
I have traveled around the world and stayed in many different places, but this one is simply the best. Sweet and attentive host, the house is beautiful, full of details to be comfortable and have an incredible experience. The views are wonderful and when I think of the bath I had in the hot tub I just get a huge smile in my face. Breakfast was superb. I am already dreaming of returning to this guesthouse ❤️
Its all right. The place used to be a hospital, so the rooms are tiled, no carpet or rugs, or wood flooring. Its very cold. But the hot tub is nice for seeing the northern lights.
Stayed here back in 2017. I love the little hearts hanging on the windows and the overall feel is very cute and homey (although I remember it being a little bit chilly). You share bathrooms with other guests but I never had issues with availability in my short stay there and you do get your own sink in each room. Bathrooms are spacious, facilities are clean, and breakfast is included.
This was the BEST hospitality we experienced during our 7-day visit to Iceland. Their staff are tuned-in to the needs of their guests, but not in a pretentious or stuffy manner. The history of the Inn is quite interesting. The rooms, common areas and grounds are first rate. The food is incredible. The horse back riding was educational and unique. Their neighbors are a blast to toast a happy hour beverage with and our ONLY regret is not booking several more nights. We will be back for a much longer stay!
Wonderful family-owned guesthouse. We usually dont book guesthouses with shared bathrooms, but this one was exceptionally nice. You feel at home. The riding tour in a very small group (4was a once in a lifetime experience and the guides were most wonderful. The hot tub was an additional delight. Thank you so much!
Just so great.I experienced the horse riding tour, I was a experienced person, but it was very smooth and very nice. The dinner was just so GREAT.I ate the lamb steak but it was really good. The rooms are clean and beautiful.Just a 5 star guest house.
Beautiful guesthouse. The washroom and showers are shared. But there is enough bathrooms to go around. Not all of the bathrooms had a shower in it so in the morning you may be waiting for on to free up. The food was delicious especially the fire and ice chocolate cake.
Very nice secluded cabin on the lake. Super awesome host who provided full info on what to do and how to get there. She also left milk and cereal for uals for breakfast. Very comftt cabin
What a fabulous place. We have travelled around the whole of Iceland over the last 10 days and this is by far our favourite place to stay. Our 8 year old daughter went off horse riding and loved it! The hot tub is perfect. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We will be back for sure!
Came for a horse riding session. Was absolutely fantastic. The area of the guest house is gorgeous, right on the water. The horses were amazing, well trained and friendly. Our guide Elysa (spellingwas perfect. The after riding soak in the hot tub was incredible. The view is unbeatable.Would highly reccomend for icelandic horse riding and staying at the guest house.
Beautiful, clean and super comfortable place to stay. I would have liked to stay even longer! They had Icelandic horses, hot tub with amazing view to mountains and to the ocean, relaxing atmosphere, free coffee, good restaurant with fish of the day and wonderful staff <3 This was sush an amazing experience, maybe the best one in the whole trip. Im sure you are going to love it too <3
THIS is the most amazing place you can visit. Of course the prices are icelandic and they have shared bathrooms and linoleum floors but PLEASE! behind every single little thing is so much love, the staff is amazing, and everything is kept very clean. Go on a riding tour with amazing icelandic horses, rent some bikes or just go on a walk by yourself through the amazing landscapes of the northern fjords. Maybe you‘ll see some mares with their fouls on your way💗
Very lovely Guesthouse. The rooms are pretty, breakfast is good. The living room and the Hot Tub with the stunning view are just awesome!
If youre considering this as an option seriously, just book it right now! This place is amazing. The people and the rooms are nice, and the bathrooms are clean. For the price its remarkable. We stayed here with our 3 year old and he was welcomed and had a great time. The added breakfast, Dagur the dog, and the hot tub over looking the fjord are all a bonus to an incredible guesthouse.About 10 min from AkureyriCheck out nearby Christmas House and Kaffi Ku.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights, and we really enjoyed it. The best part of this guest house is the warm feeling it gives you. The background story on this hotel’s lobby wall says the owner’s family wants to give the travellers staying at this guest house feeling like home, and I think they did it. I wanted to highlight its breakfast area. Although the breakfast foods are standard (in Icelandic standard), the homey and boutique decoration along with the soft jazz music make the eating environment really comfortable. In addition to the breakfast, which is included in my booking, I was also able to use the area to eat my own dinner by using the guest house’s utensil, hot water and plates. The staff were friendly and helpful all the time. The bedroom is fine, and is very clean. The bathrooms are spacious, clean and I quote my wife’s word “it’s romantic” with small lamps’ soft lighting. I recommend this guest house to travellers looking for budget and homey feeling during their stays in Akyureri. On a side note, 大廳裡有一幅世界地圖讓你pin你從哪裡來。看起來台灣來的旅客已經多到爆掉. 這guest house真的蠻受歡迎的。
Its a beautiful place with very helpful, accommodating staff. The breakfast buffet is lovely. The hot tubs were fantastic. My friends had a blast on their horse back riding sessions. Theyve got a living room for quiet down time, which was very nice. Its also conveniently close to Akureyri, which is a lovely city to explore. I highly recommend this guest house.
What an outstanding guesthouse. Staff were super friendly, and unbelievably helpful giving us travel tips and advice on an impending storm. Beautiful decor throughout and breathtaking views across the fjord. Shared lounge area complete with telescope for star gazing... Rooms were spotless and beds very comfortable (our room was economy size, fairly small, but perfectly fine for Iceland). Shared bathroom absolutely spotless. Open air hot tub which is surprisingly capacious, and open until 11pm on our stay - youre able to take drinks out and sit in the tub admiring the Northern Lights if youre lucky. Youre even issued with a warm fluffy dressing gown so you dont get too chilly walking out to the tub! Beautiful views of the fjord. Very convenient location close to Akureyri (you probably do need a car though). Breakfast was great, with a number of homemade elements. Freshly baked chocolate brownie available along with teas and coffees all day (and that brownie was delicious!). They even have a list at reception where they will try to wake you up for the Northern Lights if you sign up - such a lovely idea! Best till last - two gorgeous friendly dogs wandering the site - Dagur and Notti - you can follow him on Instagram at @DagurtheDog.
Best hotel in Iceland. You walk into the hotel and smell home like cooking. The rooms and the bathrooms are clean and neat, very comfortable and designed like a home. The staff are nice and kind and helped us with everything we needed including synthetic pillows and blankets and even vegan options for breakfast. We booked one night in the beginning of our trip and decided to come back in the end since the hotel was so great
dear all,we have returned after 10 wonderful days in iceland and want to thank you VERY much for your hospitality.we felt wonderful in your beautiful house decorated with so much charm and feeling. as we love to cook and eat good and healthy food we really loved the way you cook and serve your meals. we know how much love, care and knowledge this means.no matter who was in duty with serving, showing the rooms, the receptionists, all of them were charming, helpful and extremely kind to us.on top of all that we enjoyed the wonderful horse riding trips with your nice girls. special thank to sunneva for borrowing elsa. what a kind and good horse! my sister karin and my husband wolfgang will tell all the people planning an iceland trip about your guesthouse.thanks to you all for making our holiday unforgettable! we shall come back and of course we also shall put this letter on the internet so that many people can read this.warm regardswolfgang, karin and ulla from vienna, graz and berlin
Its a family run farmhouse with the ambience of home away from home. The hosts are very helpful and courteous. The setting is breathtaking with ocean (Fjordin the front and Green Meadows and rolling hills all around. The presence of horses and their family dogs gives it a nice personal touch. I was worried about the bathroom sharing arrangement but was it was not too inconvenient. Expect a farmhouse kind of experience and dont walk in expecting the services of the hotel will be my only heads-up.
Amazing! We did a one-hour horse ride and it was a highlight for the entire family. We did not stay at the guesthouse or eat at the restaurant, but we saw the accommodations and food and they looked great. You should come visit this place. If we come back to Iceland and visit this region again, well stay here. Its only five or six kilometers from the center of town and the setting is beautiful.
This place is awesome. The hot tub is a must - amazing views. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Highly recommend staying here if youre in the area.
Read several reviews before choosing Skjaldarvik Guest House, they are everything and more! Freshly made Skyr and breads!!! By far the best meal we have enjoyed... last night enjoyed a dip in the spa... so delightful
This is the best place I have stayed at in Iceland. Highly recommend it. The rooms are immaculate and spacious. There are shared bathrooms. But they are huge and very nicely appointed. The breakfast is very good. They have meats and cheeses and even Lamb patte! Staff are excellent and very friendly. The serenity here is a balm for the soul. They have a common siting area which is tastefully decorated, with plenty of windows, offering a spectacular view of the mountains and lake.Highly recommend the 🏇 tour. The Icelandic horses are very well trained and the 1 hour ride is very comfortable, especially for beginners and novices.Do not hesitate to stay here, if you visit Akuryeri.
At first there was some worry about staying outside of the main part of the city thinks ng wed be stuck for the night. Once we arrived, we were greeted graciously with a friendly smile and welcoming tour of the guesthouse by the keeper of the inn, and it was a great stay from there onward. The room we had was somewhat small but very comfortable. The common room was welcoming and a wonderful view of the fjord and mountains across the water. The rolling fields down to the water with a view of the several horses was serene and beautiful. The outdoor hot tub was inviting on a cool day and the bathrobes from the room were perfect for the occasion upon exit. It was a great way to spend some time enjoying the late evening daylight getting to know some of the other travellers. Lots of fun.Definitely recommend it.
Google maps does NOT know where this place is, doesnt even know the road. So youll end up at the empty place across the street. Fear not: Skjaldarvik is just across the road, closer to the bay, with the horses. Just back up the road a bit, and youll see the sign.Clean, welcoming, beautiful location, quiet, basically everything you want. They have a northern lights sign up sheet at the front desk, where you check off your room #, and if the lights come out, theyll knock on your door.Theres a bar in the living room run on the honesty system, an outdoor hot tub, and local artist work decorating the halls.Breakfast was a selection of cold items, but delicious and filling. 😊
By far one of coziest place i stay in Iceland, very recommended for someone who want to stay in Akureyri, nice hot tub with breathtaking view. I bring our own food, and the host heat it for us.
One of the best places we stayed on our trip around Iceland.Small but nice room. Everything is lovely prepared in the house.Very very nice and good service. Good recommendations for going out for dinner. We booked the wrong day but it was easy to change it at the reception. For the price (73€it was one of the cheapest houses we stayed and it was much better than the others. The breakfast was really really good as well. Staying in their hot pot in the night with all the snow around and the moonlight behind the clouds was just amazing!
Very quaint, cozy, and beautifully located on the beach in Akureyri! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Enjoy the hot tub while looking out over the splendid lake and city.
Stayed here for one night as part of our road trip to Reykjavik. A step up from our previous hostels, this is a good sized property with great views, an honesty bar, hot tub, restaurant. We’ve come out of season so it’s just breakfast. We popped back into akureyri for our evening meal.Free tea / coffee, dressing gowns in our room for the hot tub, English spoken by the receptionist.
Great location on the waterfront just outside the city. Staff was very welcoming and kind even though we arrived late. The room was warm and clean and there is a great bathtub outside which is open untill 23:00. Overall experience was great and breakfast was good.
With the view of large fjord, hammocks in the front, hot tub, cute signs and homemade touches around the common room and surrounding, its impossible not to love this place. Rooms were a little cozy and had one sink inside the rooms and three bathrooms in one hallway. They provided comfy robes as well. The horse tour was fun too and their dog was happily leading the way. You do get a 10 percent discount on the horse riding tour if you stay at the guesthouse
By far my favorite stay in Iceland. Very unique, from the horses to the local handcrafted decor. The bedrooms were very clean and I was up a lot at night because I was pregnant. They were very accommodating. Would stay here again and again!
Such a unique and fabulous place. Amazing little touches everywhere you turn, from the shared living room with amazing views to homemade handicrafts available to buy. The food is excellent! Very friendly staff and great service too.
We loved our stay here - "jewel" at the end of a long day - lovely touches, clean, friendly, loved the hot tub and rooms very comfortable. Had dinner in the dining room and it was excellent. Presentation amazing and food very delicious. Really enjoyed breakfast in the morning too. Wish we could have stayed for more than one night. If you stay here you wont be disappointed.
Fantastic place to stay, if you are around Akureyri!Hot tube with a view, very nice service, lovely breakfast with lots of home-made marmalades, beautiful and quiet location.. Thank you!cant wait to come back! :)
Lovely guest house in a great location, nice staff, decent Internet connection and a hot tub in the backyard. There are also animals and a little garden. One of my favorite hotels! The price value is great. And breakfast is delicious, especially crepes with maple syrup. The owners are eco friendly and all about recycling, what results in the house being one of a kind. Top hotel in Iceland, and surely the best one near Akureyri.
Fantastic location, nice people and a hot tub (we were joined by 12 locals at some point and had a great conversationto look at the Northern Lights. Breakfast was great too.
