Djurgårdsslätten 49-51, 115 21 Stockholm, Sweden, Stockholm
Open-air Swedish history museum, with buildings, people in costume & a zoo with Nordic animals.
Skansen is totally awesome. It showcases Sweden through the ages with their artistry and how they manufactured things to how they lived in those times. The staff were very friendly and it also houses a mini zoo. I spent a half day there but Id recommend planning an entire day for it as it is very big. And hit the town square and the shops first as some start closing around 15 already.
Awesome open air museum including a zoo. Everything is well taken care of and staff is friendly. Lots of explanation, animals seem happy. You also get some explanation by people of the museum in traditional clothes.
Very fun place to walk around on a beautiful day! We took a lot of photos. Enjoyed watching the glass-workers & walking through the zoo area as well. Lovely lookout view of the cityscape (near the reindeeras well.
It is the place where traveler can see and learn more about Sweden while visiting Stockholm. Either if you wanna see old buildings or typical animals, you will find it. The pork has many place to sit and watch the beautiful place, to enjoy the shadow of the trees and to calm down. It was not so busy and although it was my 5 th visit - I loved it totally
One of my favorite places in Stockholm to bring visitors or to get lost in. The annual card is a great offer if you live in Stockholm and like markets and cultural events. Lots of beautiful exhibitions, very friendly staff and good cafes and restaurants all over the park. There is always something new to find.
Skansen, a must do when in Stockholm. A vast huge space easily accessible from Stockholm Downtown by tram and buses. Skansen displays a cut- through of Sweden and mainly Swedish culture, development of houses and farming from old age til today. Skansen has a zoo with Swedish animals like bear, wolverine, elk and otter, eagles, owls, seals and many more. Skansen has an aquarium with free- going lemurs from Madagascar. Skansen has a vast amount of exquisite old farms and houses, people with authentic clothing and display if traditional Swedish handicrafts, farming, wearing, harvesting and more, all according to season. Skansen has an old bakery, glass blowing, ceramic workshop, old fashioned shops, traditional handicrafts for sale, restaurants serving traditional Swedish dishes, dance shows, music performances. In whole this place is a treasury of Swedish culture.Dont bring your car, take the local traffic options instead, easier, funnier also!
Very fun experience really enjoyed being there with my family. The weather held up so it made for a really nice day. We enjoyed walking through the little old village and trying some snacks but the wild animals was the best. Just was sad they no longer have the wolves and a bit over priced.
We visited Skansen on a quiet Monday morning at the end of August. It was included on our GoCity Stockholm Card which I would highly recommend if you’re looking to do several attractions in Stockholm during a visit. The attraction was an absolutely delightful open air museum showcasing life in Sweden through the ages. It’s a huge place and there is so much to see and do. We especially loved visiting the Nordic animals such as Bears, Moose and many more. There were many different exhibitions and ‘live sessions’ that you could experience, and the whole setup was great. There is a great array of cafes too, and we throughly enjoyed a couple of tasty pastries and a coffee whilst soaking up the charming atmosphere. If you’ve got the time, it’s certainly worth adding Skansen to your list of things to do in Stockholm.
Open air museum. We spent 4 hours in Skansen! It was a nice experience. We bought our tickets online. Great zoo with many Nordic animals and reproduction of an old Swedish town. I was a little sad you werent allowed to see the village houses from the inside. We saw only one. For the rest ones you had to scan a QR code so as to see the inside on your mobile app... Unfortunately, If you want to see monkeys, lemurs and the aquarium you have to buy an extra ticket. Visit it on a sunny day to get the most of it! A really good park and zoo to bring your children, too. They will love it. The entrance is a little bit expensive. For kids it is a 4-5 but for adults it is just ok. #sweden #museum
A huge museum with lots to see, but pretty expensive and the zoo was a massive let down. Most of the enclosures only had one sad looking animal. And in many enclosures there was no animal at all as it was probably sleeping inside, hidden in its den.Cute lemurs though, and an interesting glimpse into how Sweden was in medieval times.
I had mixed feelings. The place felt a bit too commercial, more of a luna park rather than educational outdoor museum. I had children Im 100% certain that they would love it. But for me as a person who wanted to discover more about the Swedish culture it just felt too commercial. I was a little sad you werent allowed to see the village houses from the inside. If I compare it to the Oslo outdoor museum, you were allowed almost everywhere. In summary great place for entertainment with children but it quite fails in showing you the beautiful old peaceful village life.
Most amazing open air museums Ive ever seen. Really informative and also entertaining. Skansen is really a must, when visiting Stockholm.
An open "museum" like a small village to show the way of life and architecture of the old Nordic times. Some animals are included like a small zoo. Its a great place for children to spend many hours wandering around and do some picnic. Some places have a less well preserved feeling.
Lovely scenery and good if you love walking lots. Very family friendly. Not many food places or options available and very costly. A small variety of animals.
This place is like a huge open space kindergarten. If you have kids you definitely have to go. The vast majority of visitors comes with children. I struggled to find a calm place in the shadow to sit down and have my sandwich. Finding a toilet not easy as well, and the queue was quite long. For me the best part was the town part. Unfortunately I went there at the end. I should have started there. The Nordic animals part quite crowded and noisy. Only some of the buildings can be visited inside, it would be great if those were marked on the map.
Great open air museum in the centre of Stockholm. People walk around in Swedish national costumes and explain about the old life style in Sweden. To our surprise this is also a zoo with Swedish animals (bear, lynx, moose, reindeer, wolverine, etc.). Animals are in large enclosures, in fact so large that we didn’t see many of them 🙃.
If I had to choose one best skansen I ever saw, I would have no doubts - that is the place. Apart from many interesting buildings from different places and times, there were actors who helped to see how life was in those places, there was a lot of interesting small things that showed us, how very often everyday life was so much different from what we experience today.
This is a wonderful outdoor museum! We really enjoyed the docents in period costumes who all gave wonderful history and background on the buildings, fixtures, and customs. The bakery was SUPERB! We are very appreciative that so many people in Scandinavia speak English. Thank you all!
Lots to do and see. Needs at least a half a day if not a full day. Has an assortment of wild animals and old buildings with living history characters to answer questions. Definitely a must see.
If the weather is decent, this park is a perfect spot to enjoy a bit of nature in Stockholm for a half day. Also doubles as a zoo and musical venue spot to enjoy an open air concert. The park itself holds various species of local fauna (bears, wolves, etcas well as different structures from around Swedens past eras.
Lovely outdoor museum which preserved the old Swedish living and working way. In some of the workshops you can meet friendly staff who gives you a bit introduction on how certain things were made in the old days which is quite interesting. There is also a mini zoo inside where you can see barn yard animals and bears, wolfs etc. Its a place great for both adult and kids.My own opinion is the entrance fee of 220kr is a bit too much. Comparibly the annual ticket of 365 KR is a better choice if you want to come here more often.
Very nice zoo with many Nordic animals. Also very cool reproduction of an old Swedish town, with small shops and a tasty bakery. Theres an unexpected extra ticket to buy if you want to see monkeys, lemurs and the aquarium, so be aware of that.
A lovely experience with a lot to see & learn about from Sweden’s history & culture. Also has some animal enclosures of animals typically found in Scandinavia. Interesting way to preserve history. Nice to be able to see a Civ VI Unique Improvement in full!
This place offers a very unique experience as a frozen in time 19th/20th century village. It covers a large area and so be prepared to spend a few hours if youd like to see the whole place and it will certainly be a long walk. But if youre up for it, there are vintage workshops, gardens, amazing views, and cafes sprinkled throughout.
Except for the bear which happens to be the star attraction and everything else is expensive. There is an entry fee, then there is an entry fee for the tropical and reptile zoo, then there is a fee for few other things. It’s a great place to walk and has some scenic views. Beyond that there is nothing else. Few houses showcase and sell what they make. There is interaction missing so not much to understand and learn. I believe some workshop will add value. Else it’s a pure waste of money. Stockholm has so much scenic walking paths which is free… just do that. Avoid this place.
Great place to visit and have a wonderful walk. Great piece of history. Very friendly stuff willing to answer your questions and tell interesting stories. Wonderful place for younger and older kids as well as adults. Many animals to watch. Some places to eat and rest. I wish there was not enough parking space..
Museum, zoo and aquarium all rolled into one!You can walk through the town and see how people lived in the past, theres actors in time period costumes across the park who will tell you about the buildings, farms etc and answer any questions you have. The zoo is spacious and the animals appear to be well cared for. From Reindeer, Moose, Bison and Bears. The Aquarium doubles as an interactive learning centre about the Baltic SeaYou definitely need the full day here to try and explore all areas. Find out when talks and worskops are on throughout the day so you dont miss out. There was a really interesting glass making demonstration when I went, very cool to see!
A nice place to visit with friends and family and children. But I recommend to get the annual pass. Because you can go multiple times and spend more time. There are nice photo locations, nicer animals, aquarium, game shops and much more.
A great place for entire family and for all age groups. It offers long walks, learn history, calm down in serene nature, panoramic views of Stockholm waters, fun rides for children and adorable animals in near to natural habitats.
This is a great place for a day out for families and kids. The best part was seeing the animals, particularly the moose and playful bears! It was a shame that so many of the arts and crafts workshops were closed. Only a few were open and they were really good to watch the crafts still continuing.Do take a ride on the funicular which will take you to a tram stop back to the city.
As the first ever building preserve in the world Skansen provides both local and international visitors a glimpse into the past of Sweden that no typical museum could provide. Plenty of signage in Swedish and English make it informative and fun to wander the paths. I just wish they had all that information in a book as most of my photos are of the signs. Easily could spend a full afternoon there.
Well known tourist location. Great attractions if you visiting with family/young adults.Super popular attraction is the n Djur (animalgarden - Bison, lynx, otters, seals, bears - which are little bit “different” than typical expectations.I visited during midsummer time and was fortunate to experience some unique celebrations And best was the Musical parade - m not sure what they call it, but is niceLot of places to stop by, eat, relax.Be ready for a good walk- bring strollers as children may really need it and most places are well accessible by stroller.Directions are bit confusing, physical map is less than ideal to locate places.Vernacular train is bit overhyped and can really be made better with more exciting route/ambiance.Worth a visit for sure.
Real pleasure to stroll around this park and explore what it has to offer. Don’t pick up a map, you’ll get lost anyway, just allow yourself to wander and find all the hidden spots in the park.We visited over midsommar which added some extra entertainment and charm to the whole place
If you are in Stockholm for midsummer - Skansen is the best place to spend the day. Getting to know Swedish culture and life back in the days. Try very delicious Fika with amazing views over the Stockholm.Make sure to save at least 4-5 hours to briefly go through the whole complex. There is also a huge variety of Nordic animals, so cute to see them in real life.If you are living in Stockholm it’s worth to buy annual ticket and go there at every time of the year.
I recommend visiting the museum during the sunny days! They have a variety of exhibitions and short but interesting information. Beautiful view.We celebrated Midsommar there and I recommend it!It was a bit disappointing tho that many of the animals were not there/were not visible.
Nice for a walk, beautiful sceneries, it extends quite a bit and you can spend a few hours walking around. See different buildings from different parts of Sweden and times, There are also enclosures with typical Nordic animals (kind of a mini-zoo). April 2002 most of the restaurants and dining places were closed, but there were a few street food vendors and one could sit outside in the sun and enjoy the area.
This little jewel of history is a must stop and see. The country has preserved so much history. The different areas, that were open, we a delight to see the craftsman at work. Dont miss this historic site.
I highly, highly recommend anyone visiting Stockholm go to the Skansen. For the cheap entrance ticket or the city pass, this is an amazing place to visit with family or friends. The animal habitat and all the old structures moved here brought in a quaint and historic charm.
This is a beautiful museum if you want to experience the old town of Sweden.. and the history of Sweden.. this is very huge place.. and lots of walking is there. Entry ticket is very very expensive and even after paying 220 SEK at the entry, there is again entry fee for few attractions inside which is again expensive. So I don’t recommend this place if you are not a walking person and nit interested in architecture!!
Lovely place…enjoyed national day of Sweden very much. It has many places for eating so overall very nice. In the picture you see the King & Queen coming to the National day celebrations
What a wonderful gem and great concept for foreigners with limited time to visit. Im sure its not 100% authentic, but it gives a great idea of how life was in these regions. Plenty to see for a relatively good admission price. Would recommend for short stay travelers.
Skansen was a really great place to visit if you like animals and want to see some great views and examples of Swedish historical architecture. We had a really great day and lots of close up views of animals.
Really beautiful area.Easy to reach from central station, just take the tram line 7 from spårväg city to the Skansen stop.Adult tickets are a little expensive but annual tickets are worth it (especially if on parental leave). My daughter went free as she is under 3 years. Was a bit worried after entering the main entrance but all the good stuff is up at a higher level. Quaint houses and lots of animals. Friendliest squirrels in Stockholm. My daughter loved the farm animals. The aquarium is very small but nice for a few minutes. It was very quiet on a Monday in late May, I imagine it gets very busy on weekends. Got a nice toasted sandwich to go for lunch.Dock a star for what I see as animal cruelty. Some animals which are not endangered and have no reason to be kept in captivity are here in enclosed spaces. Although they look healthy and I am sure they are cared for well.
Open air museum with buildings from various periods im Stockholm history. Also has a small aquarium with aquatic life from the Baltic sea, and a small zoo of Sweden wildlife. Definitely caters to younger children who want to explore. Highlights were few for me personally although I did enjoy the interior of the church and the Reindeer presentation.
If you are going to go, check beforehand online to see what events they have going on. If you go on a random day and they dont have a lot of buildings open/reenactments happening, its not quite worth the 20+ Dollars it costs to get in. The zoo portion however is great and it is amazing to see the architecture from all over Sweden.
Nice to visit on a clear weather day! You can easily spend the day there and enjoy some house / villages reconstitution and wildlife. You can pay by cash at the ticket booth and the souvenir shop which is a plus. The staff was really nice and the souvenir shop offers a large choice of handmade and traditional goods. Nice for everyone :)
You dont have to pay for a lot of museums here in Stockholm, but this one isnt free. And this is within reason, because its a great location to spend some hours while youre here. Its a combination between a small zoo (with a lynx, bears, moose...And an reenactment of old times, complete with authentic houses and people who are dressed and offer insight on the lives of people who lived 100 years ago. This place is really great. Its open air, so I would recommend going on a sunny day to get the most out of it. Great place to go with children!
A beautiful family destination to explore the oldest open museum and to know the roots of Swedish culture and history. For whom living in Stockholm, would be great to take the yearly card which will allow to attend all seasonal events.
Weak; low value.Slightly better than a walk through an old Stockholm neighborhood but with some animals & a price tag of 160 kr.It could be cool if you’re with kids, but I’d skip if short on time. Note: we visited during winter time on a cold, cloudy day.
Nice area to walk. Bit disappointing that in winter there was a reduced offering which is not clearly announced and entrance price is not reduced. Not clear what is open to eat/drink so end up walking long to find parts closed. Saw limited animals, as there was cleaning actions as well. Side entrance closed as well so had to walk around again. But still nice place to visit.
