Sjávargrillið - Icelandic restaurant in Reykjavik, Iceland
What a fantastic meal and experience. Each dish was simply exquisite and delicious. The Lobster Tacos are incredible and the lamb and beef were top of the charts. The staff were all friendly and super helpful. I cannot recommend this establishment enough.
Nice and cosy restaurant. Service and atmosphere are fantastic. Unfortunately food is on a bit disappointing side. Lobster tacos were great. Pan fried cod was too salty for my taste. My partner ordered a chicken salad. Unfortunately chicken was chewy and rubbery. Prices are expensive but that is expected.
I came across this restaurant from other Google reviews. It is on point. The steak carpaccio is 👌. The lamb was phenomenal. The drink selection is great too. I highly recommend this place!
We didnt have a reservation but the host was able to accommodate us for a table of 2 thankfully. We ordered the seafood pasta and the tacos and they were very good. The restaurant is decorated very nice on the inside and made it a special place to eat.
Beautiful classy place with very nice staff. Definitely worth a visit.
When in Iceland you must, of course, try the Taste of Iceland 4 course meal. A little fish, a little pork, Mary had a little lamb and so did I, and some cake to top it all off. The flavors were excellently balanced and I ate every bite! 😋
We got the lobster salad, white mocha brownie, and the creme brulee. Absolutely wonderful. A week later and we cant stop talking about how good the lobster salad was. The meal was pricey but, unbelievably delicious.
Amazing! We had dinner here on our first night and cannot stop talking about it, we keep comparing everything to the delicious food we had here. Definitely coming back once we return to Reykjavík.
Everything we had was exceptional! No exaggeration here. One of the best meals of my life. We did the grill party special for the table; which included the lobster tacos (highly recommend).
Very nice place. Highly recommend making reservations. I got the salted cod with mozzarella and it was delicious. I also got the crème Brule for desert and that was amazing. Yummy bread served beforehand.
Food, service, atmosphere is 10/10.
Great service and best sushi in Reykjavik!I really enjoyed my dinner at this place, it is a little loud but food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and I would be happy to visit again.
Amazing food and wonderful service by Katrin. Don’t miss the Lobster Tacos!
I didnt have a reservation but they managed to squeeze me in. Very friendly and competent staff. They know the menu and that serves great seafood.
We will recommend this site to everyone. The place is beautiful, the food is exquisite and very well presented and the workers are very friendly. We had a reservation for dinner at 9:15 p.m. and we arrived at 10:00 p.m. (the time the kitchen closesbecause we had an excursion and the bus broke down. We went to the restaurant to apologize and they gave us a really delicious fish of the day for dinner :)
We had dinner on a Tuesday evening and reservation is required. Emailed a day in advance. Email contact went smoothly, received a response within the hour. The menu states that the six-course menu is per table and cannot be ordered per person. With the exception of children or teenagers. A nice arrangement so that we have taken the six-course menu and our teenager took two separate dishes. Our waiter was attentive and asked when we wanted the two separate dishes in combination with the six-course menu. Every dish was tasty and beautifully prepared. There was enough pause between courses to let the food sink. Good proportions, highly recommended.
The lobster and cod are both very fresh, but the cod has a creamier sauce. The price is high.
Food was amazing. Super friendly staff. Great ambiance.
Yum! I would love to come back to this restaurant for that lobster tacos. It’s amazing. Simple dish but great flavors.
Myself and my wife went for the tasting menu here and it was absolutely amazing! The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly, especially Kathrin. Would definitely recommend!
I should have known better than order the ribeye in a country not known for beef. It was very chewy, dry and lukewarm when it was given to me. Waiter didnt even bother explaining what I had on plate or asked how it was.
Beautiful atmosphere delicious food. Best meal we had in Iceland. The only reason I did four stars is because for their prices the service was lacking. This may be due to pandemic service issues so I would still highly recommend checking them out. We had the lobster tacos, seafood pasta, salted cod and fish of the day. Delicious and nice serving sizes
Stopped here for a late lunch. Enjoyed a delicious pasta and a cold beer. Great service and food. Would love to try dinner next time.
Nice space, friendly staff. Maybe we just got too used to having lamb and cod but we just didn’t feel like we were having something special.
Probably best restaurant in Reykjavik. Fantastic food.
This place is great! We went there twice when we stayed in Reykjavik. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was also perfect! Highly recommended it to everyone.
Nice food and service but no option for vegetarians
I loved the restaurant. Cosy atmosphere, draft wood in interior... 👌 Most important - food. I had slow cooked cod & lobster to start. Continuing on the same wave - catch of the day. Tonight it was perch. Tried warm chicken salad and dumplings too 😋, just tried - portions are reasonably big. Starter and main course might be even more than enoug for most of people.Every dish was excellent 👌. Fish ideally cooked - texture and moisture, all as it should be to enjoy. Even chicken... Compliments to the Chef!
I stumbled in for lunch and had an excellent dining experience. I recommended to a number of fellow travelers and all had a great experience. Will definitely return my next trip to Iceland.
Recommended by our taxi driver in to the city and it did not disappoint!!
By far the best meal we have ever had. Service was great, staff was kind and friendly, and the food was incredible. Would absolutely recommend eating here.
this place was perfect for dinner. delicious food and good service!
Had the tasting menus (1 meat, 1 fish- really good value (worked out £130 for two 3/4 course taster menus and two glasses of wine), and excellent quality. Really well thought out plates and very wholesome food.
The Lobster Tacos were sublime, and the Smokey Gentlemen was a smooth bourbon blend without being cloyingly sweet.
A langostine and scallop pasta was to lick the plate delicious! We also had a cabbage dumplings and a fish course of the day, both amazing. I highly recommed!
Great food amd atmosphere. Definitely felt more like a local restaurant vs a tourist place.
Incredible food and staff! Relaxed atmosphere. We had the taste of Iceland menu
Our seating was downstairs for reservation for 10. The waiter was very knowledgeable. The veal was excellent. The fried lobster sushi was very popular in the group.
Great ambience and cosy rustic interior. Amazing 4 course ‘Taste of Iceland’ menu (9.990IKR). We loved each of the courses, especially the cod and lobster starter and the delicious lamb main with beetroot and blueberry. Everything was cooked perfectly. Cocktails were also great. Particularly liked ‘that’s all’. We will definitely return if we are in Iceland again!
Got taken to this restaurant on a food walking tour on our first night in Rejkjavik. This was the 3rd of 5 places on the tour and definitely the best. We had the lobster tacos, Ive been lucky enough to eat at some amazing restaurants in my time, but me and my fiancé both agree these are the best dish we have ever eaten, they are sublime. Needless to say that when our Northern lights tour was cancelled 2 days later , we headed straight here to order them along with the Viking Christmas Menu, this didnt disappoint either, great food, lovey restaurant, definitely worth a visit if your in town.
Very good food and super kind staff. I had the lobster salad as a light main but it was definitely a great portion. The lobster side (photowas also amazing, as was the seafood pasta. Next time we’re in Reykjavik we’ll have to come back to try the rest of the menu!
Really good food but the waiters were a bit under experienced. Still a very nice experience
Lovely lunch at this restaurant on our last day in Iceland. Excellent flavours that really brought out the best in the ingredients. We had beef carpaccio, Icelandic salt cod, catch of the day (grilled Ling), and a seafood broth. All we delicious (even for one diner whos not a fan of seafood...). Service was friendly and efficient. Would happily eat here again.
Without doubt, the best meal I had in Iceland in the week I was there. Go at lunchtime and get the great-value catch of the day. I had ocean perch and ling with barley and vegetables and a delicious sauce. Fish was perfectly cooked and just a delight - and I’m not actually normally a huge fish eater. The crème brûlée was wonderful too - made with skyr, I think, and the accompanying sorbet and cream were delicately made and beautiful tasting, too. Restaurant has a nice position for outdoor people-watching on a warm day. Staff was first-class helpful and polite without being always in your face. Five stars and affordable for Iceland as well!
Incredibly salty and very expensive for what you get. We had the slow cook lobster appetizer, and pan fried cod entree. The appetizer was about 1 oz and was about $30. The pan fried cod was way too salty as another reviewer said. I couldn’t even taste the cod because the salt overwhelmed any other taste.
The restaurant was nice, with great food. However, we were served by a new waitress, who did her best to do well, but it was evident that she lacked the knowledge of menu and serving skills. Because of that we felt that we significantly overpaid for what we got. The management of the restaurant should do more to ensure that their staff appropriately trained.
I only had the pleasure of eating the deep fried lobster maki and the lobster tacos. Both were exceptionally fantastic. I walked in, solo, no res. I was seated immediately. Nice ambience, good for romance, but I was alone yet still comfortable. Background music was low so you could have nice conversation without yelling at each other.I liked the harmonization of flavors and textures in the dishes I tried. I’d definitely return for the savory dishes. I also ordered the creme brûlée. It was fair. Not mind blowing. Although, the herbal shaved ice and the caramel sorbet were unexpectedly show stealers. I would recommend the pastry chef experiment more with regional flavors in the classics, instead of recreating popular desserts.I had the Hot Take, which was tequila, guava, jalapeño. It was delicious. I could’ve used just a bit more heat. Helga, the server was awesome!
Really nice quiet romantic place for a meal. The food was well made, very approachable, not overly complicated, but still unique. The lobster tacos were the star of the evening for me.
Way too salty dishes. We had pan fried cod, slow cook cod and lobster, lobster pasta and seafood soup (really salty). The creme brulee are too soft not firm enough. The cacao beans in the creme brulee gave it a crunchy texture and enhanced the flavor. Overall very expensive meals and salty.
First of all huge praise to the chef who has a rare skill when it comes to flavor.🦞 Lobsters taco 9/10 holding back on flavor, making the lobster the hero.🦐 Shellfish soup 9/10 a flavor bomb, it is almost to much.🦞 Lobster pasta 9/10 the Tiger prawns was amazing the pasta a bit plain and not al dente prepared.🎣 Catch of the day 7/10 this dish showed how amazing the chef are as the kale, broccoli and carrot was prepared perfectly and full of flavor, the fish was average though.
