Sjávarbarinn in Reykjavik
Description
Privilege
The food is incredibly tasty and fresh. The fish soup here is the best I have ever had. Everything was yummy. Buffet price is more affordable than other restaurants.Cons: The interior design is simple. Seats could be more comfortable.
MoreThis is amazing restaurant 😍😍❤❤ the chef is so good , so delicious fish restaurant and it is the cheapest restaurant in Iceland. Between 15 to 25 euro you can choose your fish for main course and so delicious fish soup and all of cold starters and salads and cake and water is free. You can eat as much as you want. Woww! So good! 5 stars!
MoreReally great seafood and buffet! I got langoustine and they were amazing. My fiance got the fish soup and loved it.
MoreReally really good food! Some people in our large party ordered from the menu and others enjoyed the buffet. Everyone left full of seafood and raving about how delicious their dinner was. The staff was very friendly too.
MoreGood food, good price, nice staff.
If you want to experience the best seafood in Iceland at a reasonable price, go to Sjávarbarinn! I highly recommend getting the buffet so you can try everything they have to offer. The fish cakes and salmon were my favorites, and I definitely went back for seconds and thirds. The owners wife was so friendly and great to talk to. Make sure you pick up their recipe book before you leave!
MoreWe payed less than anywhere else in Iceland eating here. And the food was amazing. We took the lamb and fish and chips as main courses, the salad bar which is amazing is included plus tomato soup. We were about to burst after we ate. I dont remember the last time I was so full. Highly recommended
MoreProbably the best fish I’ve had in Iceland! The cod & smoked salmon in cold buffet were amazing! We ordered fish of the day & grandma’s style fish cake. They’re on the same pan & tasted really good except fish cake a bit salty. The soup was superb too!!
MoreI had the buffet with langoustine tails. First the fish soup that started the meal was absolutely delicious. I had another bowl to finish the meal. There was a very good selection of different types of fish served many different ways to choose from in the buffet and it was all you can eat. The langoustine tails were butter salt and garlic and were dinner licking good as well. Im glad we found this place!
MoreThe famous fish soup was the best I have ever tasted. Really good value meal with the cold buffet included. Would like to come here again.
MoreI loved the lunch buffet. Highly recommended.
Got the fish & chip which came with the salad and cold food bar, which is unlimited. Food was good, but the fish was quite bland, even with the tartar sauce. Fish cakes were really tasty, but a bit on the oilier side.
MoreIt was such a great food here! Reasonable price compared to other restaurants in Iceland. I Had a seafood pan which was fresh and the lamb was so tender and perfect grilled! I coulnt smell anything from the lamb! The soup of the day was so fabulous, especially no salty at all! High recommended!
MoreBuffet was delicious, langoustines fantastic and the soup of the day was perfect. Highly recommended
MoreI almost dont want to leave a review because selfishly wanting this to remain out of the hands of tourists.Hands down the best meal experience I have had here in island. This will be a double treat if you love fish and want to be surrounded by locals. The lunch buffet has a special discount and was incredible with both hot and cold eats. Get there early and youll be treated to a family greeting by the owner. The last restaurant I felt this comfortable in was that of a good friend who closed it down.
MoreA gem in Iceland! The breaded haddock fillet is really fresh & good. All main courses come with the soup of the day, cold dishes buffet (breaded fish with prawn on top, raw salmon, raw redfish etc& dessert (brownie). Good quality food with free-flow buffet & varieties at Iceland usual price!Takeaway is cheaper than dining in for the same course, but not sure if the potion is the same. The host/chef is friendly & professional. The waitress is loud but still ok. They will introduce the type of fishes in each buffet dishes. Overall, the service is good.
MorePan fry and mix stew are so reasonable and tasty. Don’t miss them.
This place was amazingFresh fish n chips a must at a good price🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 a must for all brits
MoreGreat Iceland Seafood feast at Sjávarbarinn in Reykjavik. We were lucky to have our Christmas Eve seafood dinner menu which started with the must try fermented shark & Black Death schnaps Brennivín. A creamy seafood soup followed with a deliciou platter of roasted langoustine tails. Then we were treated to a full seafood buffet which included 10 warm and cold seafood courses like fish and chips, and icelandic fish stew, fresh salmon, salad bar, homemade bread and a traditional malted rye bread. We also drank icelandic beer to top off a delicious meal. The place was fun and lively and staff was friendly and welcoming. Enjoy!
MoreGreat welcome. Out of tourist area. But you get a lovely fish creamy soup with breads, the salad bar was great and even included fresh salmon and red fish. We had fresh breaded haddock and the fish of the day (flounder)host was brilliant and cheaper than surrounding area and better than more expensive meals. A must visit if u want a quality and cheaper meal.
MoreI choose all you can eat, of course with great soup. Love this place and the food ☺️
MoreThis is the best understated restaurant in Reykjavik. The decor and setting is nothing fancy but the service is fantastic and food sublime. Fish stew just like your Icelandic grandma makes!
MoreRecommended for fish lovers! The all you can eat lunch buffet was unforgettable with an array for cold and hot range of fishes. The soup was amazing. Service was fantastic. A must if you are in Reykjavik!
MoreThis restaurant have all sorts of fishes you can find in iceland served in the buffet. Worth to try if you are a fish lover. And know your fishes before you go, it more interesting.
MoreBest all around seafood spot, and especially if your looking in the area. Plenty to find on the harbor but this is the spot! Small and nice sitting, though bathroom lighting could be better accessible. Great for the family, outdoor seating and polite staff. Lunch special was awesome, buffet was top notch, and everything came with some kind of bread/salad or soup! Try everything is you can.
MoreThe staff we super lovely and attentive. We went in for fish & chips but got confused by the menu as there were lots of great sounding options. We ended up going for the buffet as it included fish & chips, but the food overall didnt hit the mark, and not cheap either. We didnt eat our 3,900ISK worth thats for sure.
MoreAbsolute favorite restaurant in Reykjavik! So good we stopped twice in one week. Delicious food and great portions for the price.
MoreDelicious dinner, engaging staff - the owner even came out to chat us up and share stories of his travels! Great seafood at great prices, especially for the area
MoreGorgeous seafood here. Clean and colourful place.
Was craving seafood during a visit to Reykjavik and decided to try the seafood buffet here. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, the food was phenomenal, and the price was very fair compared to other surrounding restaurants. Loved having the option to try traditional Icelandic seafood while still getting some of the basics. Dont forget to grab a tasty little chocolate dessert!
MoreThis isnt just a place to eat.. Its a delicious experience with a very friendly and chatty chef that interacts with guests! Wide veriety of excellent food and fish from the market across the street. Im a bit of a foody that spends way too much time finding a place to eat...
MoreI have been here both times Ive been in Iceland because the seafood soup is PHENOMENAL! I cant say enough good things about it. My boyfriends food has always been excellent too, but my God the soup is the best I have ever had in my life. You MUST come when in town!
MoreA fantastic all you can eat Icelandic buffet. You will have the chance to sample all the raw, smoked, pickled or fried fish you could ever want. Awesome tasting dishes.
MorePhenomenal fresh fish buffet. The chef will explain each dish and what sauces it pairs with. Comes with unlimited coffee as well that is wonderful! The best part? Its better priced than any nearby restaurant! A must go place!
MoreDefinitely the best seafood in Reykjavik! I had the fish 🐠 soup wich had every known sea organism inside, it was amazing but huge portion so I was disappointed I couldnt eat all of it! The staff was amazing too! Will definitely go again!
MoreEven outside the hours of the buffet its great value for quality fish. Lots of unexpected extras included that are not even on the menu. Free parking and last but not least, very kind and helpful staff!
MoreGreat buffet with the right amount of choices. Cant beat the price for a lunch buffet in Reykjavik. The lady who greeted us was extremely friendly and very happy to have us eat there. The soup is exceptional! The dishes are a tiny bit too salty, but then again, what restaurant food isnt.
MoreLovely fish & chips, excellent soup and salad bar, all for 2800isk
Very good value lunch buffet. Food was delicious and fresh. The soup was so tasty. Love the salmon and the brown sauce. Try putting some picnic/potato crisps on the mashed potato-fish, it’s awesome! The staff was very nice and the owner was friendly. Toilet was clean.
MoreAbsolutely great. Good prices, cosy place, clean toilets and wonderful staff. The buffet was amazing. Thanks
MoreFantastic experience at Sjávarbarinn !!! If you are looking for a REAL icelandic meal and a warm friendly welcome, you wont be disappointed ! Magnus is passionate with icealandic cooking and will make you taste the fresh fish from the harbor. He even gave us a book with traditional recipe !Huge buffet at very good price. Huge pan full of fish ! Highly recommended !!!
MoreVery good restaurant. You can choose from either buffet or menu. I had the seafood pan as shown in the picture which is extraordinary. Fish is fresh and tasty. Nice staff. Even open on Christmas Eve.
MoreGood buffet w lobster for 3 on Christmas Eve for 184000 ISK
We had the Langoustine and seafood soup and the crumbed haddock. Seafood is so fresh and we got a salad bar and another seafood soup to go along with it. Great quality and portions are massive.
MoreThe least expansive lunch I had and it actually filled me up. Greeted by the owner. He was really nice to talk to and you could tell he was really into his food. Made with love and real Icelandic ingredients
MoreGrate place for fresh seafood in town! Good value for money in a grate friendly atmosphere! Its more like bistro! Must try the famous sea food soup, and seafood pan!
MoreBest seafood I had in Reykjavik! Fresh plus excellent selection and value.
We entered the restaurant greeted by the chef. He was super polite and explained what was in each dish as someone in our party was lactose intolerant. We went for the seafood buffet and liked everything. Typical Icelandic prices, but super fresh fish (the fish market is across the street). Overall a great experience!
MoreThis place was one of the more afforable excellent seafood places in Reykjavik. We highly enjoyed the fish of the day. The fish is salted nicely and practically melted in your mouth. I chose the mashed fish with rye bread. It was creamy and satisfying. You also get a soup and access to the salad bar with your main meal. The fish soup is also very good. I was initially shocked by how expensive all of iceland is, but we lucked out in choosing this place. Its a great deal, considering! Theres just two people running the place, but the service is friendly. You will not regret your choice.
MoreThis place is definitely worth the walk. Eating out in Iceland is so painfully expensive, but this restaurant was reasonable and delicious. If you order any main entree you get to partake in the salad/appetizer bar along with getting a bowl, with bread, of the soup of the day.The chef came out at the end and chatted for a bit. (This seems to be a common theme in the reviewsHe went to another table before he visited mine. He chatted jovially and asked if everyone enjoyed their meal and then proceeded to hand out these little cookbooks of his personal Icelandic receipies. Whatever is on the menu is in his little book, its even got a cartoon version of himself on the cover and throughout offering little quips and tricks about the meal. Its like I was handed the Icelandic version of the Half Blood Princes potion textbook! Ive been meaning to find a decent cookbook to take home and try recepies and here one just fell in my lap!Worth the walk, a lot of fun, and reasonably priced.
