Sirphey - Takeaway in Los Alamos, United States
The place was closed even though they were within their posted hours.
Great Currys, wonderful parathas And creative drinks. Only challenge is short evening hours.
Ive been a customer of Sirpheys since 2019 and I am always impressed but how high quality and tasty all of their food is. I especially love their curries and naan. I recently got a dairy-free boba drink from them, and it was super delicious, definitely looking forward to getting more boba from them. Highly recommend their chicken katsu, samosas, and yellow lentil dhal, but everything on the menu is good.
Very yummy food and on-time delivery. We enjoy the mango lattes and the boba teas.
We ate at the sister location at Bandelier and it was such a delight! Probably the best baklava weve ever had, also a great red bean veggie burger, samosas, spring rolls, and even a bubble tea. This kind of variety really surprised us at a national monument, we highly recommend!
awesome food and the teas are incredible!
This used to be a really good place that had an eclectic menu of expertly prepared foods.I think they may have gone out of business ... Hours keep changing and its been forever since weve seen them. Driving by, the place seems deserted.
They are celebrating their 5-year anniversary. And for that they are giving free chai tea. Their food and their drinks are delicious the people are very kind and its just all around a great restaurant. I highly recommend it
The food AND service are phenomenal!!!! Very very happy to discover this gem!!! Have the Doug it does not disappoint!!!! The Bible was very good also....
I like that the menu changes and brings some variety to Los Alamos. Much appreciated! The food can sometimes be hit or miss, but really like the rotational aspect.
Website does not make it clear that they are NOT OPEN during lunch and after the hassle of making an account with a password I am out $22 until it gets refunded. Terrible business practices.
Just tried Sirphey for the first time and it was excellent! Delicious filling food at a good price. The menu is full of all kinds of diverse items and theres something for every taste! The man who took our order was very kind professional courteous and helpful. Try Sirphey!
I think the curries here are a hit or miss. I got two curries and one of them was delicious - the Paneer Xacuti. The other one was crazy spicy and lacked flavor (Ethiopian something, honestly can’t remember). Even though it was 50/50, It’s nice that they rotate menu items and that there’s variety.
Different than your average restaurant. Check daily for the menu, order ahead. A great choice especially if you are tired of the same choices.
I’ve ordered from Sirphey several times and every time I have been beyond pleased. The portion size, quality, flavor, etc is always FANTASTIC! After reading a few negative reviews I was hesitant to order from them, but I decided to give them a shot and I am so glad that I did. So far I’ve tried their Puerto Rican bean and potato stew, Japanese chicken katsu curry, sesame balls, and chicken dal tadka. Everything was absolutely WONDERFUL! If you’re looking for good food here in Los Alamos, Sirphey is just the place. Oh and here’s a plus ... THEY DELIVER!!! :)
I really enjoy the food here. They have lots of Indian dishes and some Thai dishes which are all very tasty. The way you order is easy. Simply order online and put a date and time when you want to pick up and then they will have it ready when you get there. They also have a variety of Boba teas!
A great little gem in Los Alamos. Their menu is rotating and usually consists of a variety of world cuisine with a few unique burgers for variety. Food is most often Asian or South Asian, but with some African thrown in from time to time.
Good food, great portion size, and excellent customer service!
Amazing food, super friendly host and the rotation menu is the best idea ever!
Wonderful food. Well and truly delicious, very complex flavors. Easy online ordering.
Truly excellent food. Variable menu with something for every palate, kids too. Like a world plate tour but w/standard comfort foods too. Fair value, friendly, safe and sanitary service and pick up. Stay local and order Sirphey for your next meal or treat - help keep this hometown gem open so we can keep eating here! Will you be (safelyadventurous and try it?
Fantastic food. The owner and chef, Dr. Prashant Jain is a complete genius. I have been going there since February and in that time he has featured food from Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Thailand, the Indian subcontinent, and also native American foods, and southwestern United States cuisine. He also creates fusion recipes that combine flavors from vastly different cultures. For example the he takes traditional Indian naan bread makes them into chips to serve as nachos or with green chile guacamole. He also serves really good burgers. He keeps changing things every day but its always crazy good. I love Sirphey.
Indian food isnt authentic, but thai food is great!
Update: Sirphey has had some extreme ups-and-downs since I posted this review. The results of the experiment are in. The conclusion is that its hard to keep the variety going without someone with solid culinary chops at the helm, and thats hard to keep staffed in Los Alamos. Theres considerabley less change day-to-day in the offerings, but they are still consistently good.Sirphey is a wild experiment, a cross-cultural adventure, and hands-down the best food in town. Their menu changes daily, but always includes a few Indian dishes and street foods like samosas. From there they seem to make whatever they feel like, from meatball lasagna to duck ravioli, bbq ribs (South Carolina styleto street tacos. Theres always something interesting being served. The experiment is that they arent really a restaurant. Orders can be placed online or in person, but they dont have waiter service. A window counter is their only indoor seating, and picnic tables scatter the lawn for when its warm enough. The result is that it allow them to focus almost entirely on the kitchen, where the magic happens. The trade-off is worth it. The Indian food is excellent and varied. For everything else, they almost always beat any local competitors at their own genre of cooking. If theres one downside, its that what they make isnt always well suited to being served in a to-go container. Some things want to be served on a warm plate.
Whether you are living are just overnighting in Los Alamos. You can enjoy a meal with a flare and some curry... The menu changes daily. So, roll the dice and pick up or get that flare delivered...
I have had their food a couple times over the lifetime of the establishment. I had an online order when they first opened of Chicken Tikka Massala, which was not what I expected due to the addition of bell peppers and was more tomato based that I have had elsewhere. I have more recently tried their saag paneer at our summer concert series and orderd food and appetizers with friends at their (closedsister establishment. The saag paneer is acceptable, as was other ordered food, but the appetizers were a bit dried out and flavorless. The servings are small for the price. It is the only available Indian food in town, which is why i give in occasionally and have it, but it isnt that good and Id rather drive to Santa Fe to get actual Indian food there.
We have eaten here a couple times recently and been very impressed. The African curry had great flavor with a crispy skin and large portions. The plantains were also exceptional. Some of the meat dishes had been a little overcooked a few months ago, but it has been excellent lately.Worth trying again!
Once an interesting menu, now lacking in diversity. As others have commented, quality has declined noticeably over the past year. Always a bit pricey for the smallish portions, but now there is very little to recommend this place for even in the relative culinary wasteland of Los Alamos, where everyone lives with their heads in the sand.
Like many of the latest reviews, a year ago it was great. Now, what happened to it... microwaved pre made portions, pita or nan is hard as a rock, hummus is frozen. Mango yogurt is still good.
Sirphey is best case mediocre.Update: I gave them another try, tried out an indian dish. It was alright, nothing special, relatively bland. However, I got a small food poisoning, free of charge. So Im done with them for good.I wouldnt call a place "restaurant" if all they do is microwave meals. Which meals, by the way, are far from high quality.Their House Salad is a joke: a couple slices of cucumber, radish and raw carrot, mixed with old greens (yeah, I could see how they were all black and gushy... disgusting). Their Jaeger Schnitzel was alright; rather small portion, definitely earlier made, but I have had worse before. However, their prices arent correlate to the quality and quantity of their meals; everything is overpriced. You should give it a try if you are out of options, but dont expect much. And dont believe the advertisement pictures. Or better yet, just go to the other side of the street and pick up some food from Sonique.
We used to eat hear all the time, but the last few times the quality has gone down and today is honestly the final straw with this place. We ordered in advance only to get there and be told they ran out of what we ordered. We picked something else and was told it would be 5 minutes. We waited 20. And they they didnt even bother to ask if wed like our food warmed up. This is not the first time this has happened either. We got home only to find that my favorite thing to order from there (the onion fritter thingswas replaced with just regular terribley made onion rings. It was literally 6 layers of an onion fried in unseasoned plain flour. It was literally uneatable and I wouldve asked for my money back if we hadnt already made it home. Not as described and went straight to the trash.Naan is always burnt like theyve never cleaned the oven. Entrees are often decent, however the portions are not worth the price. Were done with Sirpheys.
Very very good food, I walk over and grab. They do delivery. Great selections that change daily. Get the app.
My wife and I ordered the chicken and paneer curry. It is not an exaggeration to say the quality was horrible (we realized while waiting that its primarily a take away place, but thats no excuse for quality).First of all, it was premade and just microwaved, which is unacceptable for any sort of restaurant. We would have left after we were asked if we wanted it heated up or not, but we had already paid. Oh, and it was only heated to barely lukewarm.Second, the rice was so cheap it was just a mush.Flavor-wise it was the worst curry Ive experienced. We were reading other reviews and couldnt imagine why other people think its so great. We did eat it, but weve been to a lot of curry places, and this is the worst. As another reviewer had said, you might as well go to Smiths, find a frozen dish and microwave it yourself. It will be better and cheaper. Or visit any other restaurant in town. We will not be back to Sirphey.Oh, and this is the only review Ive ever left for anything, its that extreme.
So when I heard about Sirphey I was elated to have another non-new Mexican food option in town. The first time we ordered it we got some Thai dishes that werent great, but werent terrible. We grabbed food there multiple times during lunch and it slowly got worse. I love pretty much all Asian food so I mainly stuck with that cuisine every time I ordered. Nothing stood out as above average for me. The Indian dishes lacked the spices you should normally get, the Thai dishes were overly sweet, and the Banh Mi bowl I ordered yesterday....well, it wasnt even close to Banh Mi. The pork was dry, the carrots were barely pickled, if at all, there wasnt cilantro, jalapenos, chili, etc. Just freakin carrots and cucumbers with some spicy mayo. My girlfriend got the meatloaf dish, which while tasted good was super greasy. For dessert we got baklava which was also drowning in syrup and the filo dough was tough and chewy. I mean comon....I dont understand the high ratings half the places in town get. Has no one here had truly authentic ethnic dishes? Anyways, we gave Sirphey about 5 chances to serve something great and it failed to so I dont think well be coming back.
Ive had decent food thats been picked up from Sirphey but I have been unimpressed when ordering it from Unquarked. Just ordered a poboy that was supposed to have catfish and shrimp but it was just shrimp and the fries were cold. Never looks like the pictures! Will change my review if I have better experiences in the future bc I do appreciate having this option of food in Los Alamos.
International take out menu that changes daily. Food is always fresh and flavorful. Indian dishes are always on the menu, but the great thing is the menu changes daily. Delivery is an option, but I have always picked up. Sirphey menu is also available for dine in at UnCorked Wine Room.
I got the apple jalapeño tofu with calabacitas and mashed potatoes. And a berry drink. I ordered at the booth at the Gordon’s concert. I came to try the African food truck but was underwhelmed with their vegetarian option (yes, only one option 😒). I looked over the menu at Sirpheys booth and was pleased to see several vegetarian options! 😁The staff working the booth was really friendly and they were fast at serving me. They also were nice to my dog that means a lot to me.They had the meal pre-made in clamshell boxes and warmed it up in a microwave. It made me nervous at first but then I opened the box and the food was presented beautifully. Everything was in earth friendly packaging. Then I tasted the food! Explosion of deliciousness! It was the perfect balance of spice. It was sweet and hot and savory. Lots of umami. Everything was perfectly seasoned! It was all the perfect temperature. I expected to have hot and cold pockets because of the microwave but it was just right all around. The drink was a bit expensive 6$ , when the meal was 11$ but it was also in earth friendly plastic and had a lid for sipping from the top and no straw. Also, it was perfectly sweet and tasted how it should have! Lots of berry goodness. It went great with the meal.I am so glad that I tried their food I will definitely visit their location and when I go back to unquarked I’ll order something there too! Keep up the good work Sirphey!I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good food, friendly service, and environmentally conscious restaurant!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The food tasted pretty good, but its fairly high prices for obviously microwaved food.
What a great little gem, so glad I found this place. From what I understand its menu is constantly changing so you can expect something new every time you visit. Very cool idea for a restaurant.
I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to order online and picking it up. They do have an option for delivery, but I have never used it. Regardless if you choose take out or delivery, by default the food is provided cold. If you want it warms up, you have to request it.The food itself is fantastic. I have never had a bad dish from them. I highly recommend any Indian dish or the desserts.Overall I give it 4 stars because the food is excellent, ordering is convenient, but you can only sort of dine in and have to request to have your food warmed up.
I had Khao Poon and it was very spicy. My dinner companions had Brazilian Roasted pork and beef bourguinon and both were great. All recyclable plates, utensils and cups. Very reasonably priced. Oooo the pierogies were excellent too. Highly recommend this restaurant. A bit hard to find, located in VFW on Trinity across from Sonic slightly west.
Food was COLD!!! And fairly bland. Small portions for the price. Was surprised based on all the good reviews..
Sirphey is one of our favorites in Los Alamos! They are more than "just" Indian food. Menu changes daily and includes Indian, Mediterranean, African, American, Italian, etc. LOVE their earth- friendly packaging! If you get take out for supper, it comes cold. You need to specify if you want it heated - especially if you are temporarily living in a hotel room.
GREAT food! Easy to grab a quick lunch if needed. Also, good to take home for the family.
I just came from yet another event catered deliciously by Sirphey’s, one of the most popular caterers in Los Alamos. The event hosts offered Sirphey’s buffet of multiple dishes: chicken, lamb, vegetarian empanadas, veg-balls, rice…with mango lassi yogurt drink and another purple juice, and deserted by very very chocolate pecan cake and baklava. UnQuarked was also there with bottles of native New Mexico wine. Good wine. Really good wine. You can get a lovely, sharable meal down at Sirphey’s and meet the gang at Unquarked. Really tasty. Totally flavorful.
2 months in Los Alamos eating every day at the restaurant...Ive tried all of them several times and Sirphey is the BEST restaurant in town. The food is fresh, tastily, not a huge portion (which is actually a plus in a country where the quantity is often ways too much and the quality ways too low). The quality is great and there is a good choice of different dished, also for someone (like mewho does not eat spicy. I didnt try the delivery, but even when you go there and order, the waiting time is more than reasonable even if you are in rush. GREAT JOB and GREAT PLACE TO EAT!
Phenomenal food. You can literally taste how fresh it is. I swear, the kidney beans I just ate had to be picked this morning, they were SOO GOOD!
I’m so glad this place exists. Had a tuna poke bowl that was fantastic and their Indian dishes are awesome; in fact, I’ve liked almost everything I’ve ever had. Just look at this orange spotted cheesecake-thing!
We have purchased at least five or six dinners from Sirphey and have been pleased with them all. If you read about how the service works, you will know that from 11:30 AM until 3 PM, they serve hot food. After 3 PM, the food is chilled and needs to be heated up at home. Directions are provided on how to reheat the food and all food is delivered in recyclable containers. Now, with that out-of-the-way, this food is great...in Los Alamos or any other city. It is some of the best tasting food that is available in this kind of format that Ive ever had. So, if you want it hot, get it between 11:30 AM and 3 PM. Otherwise, you will receive it chilled and it needs to be reheated. It is worth the wait and the need to have to reheat it.
To reiterate on what most of the deleted comments said: The portions are very small, particularly for the price being paid. The food itself is fairly okay (okay-good by Los Alamos standardsbut the price is high and you get a fairly small amount.Which would make this a fine "once in a while" place if it werent for the horrible service. We are now at the point where the delivery window is 1.5 hours, which is unacceptable on its own. But combine that with needing to call to actually get food delivered once that window is over and the solution to someone not answering the door to be leaving a random bag on a doorstep (which is a questionable choice in this town...and never informing the customer (in their defense, this may have been related to the car I heard peeling out of the parking lot after I called to inquire where my food was and got a refund). The food itself is fine if you have money to burn, had a large lunch, and can go pick it up yourself. If you are actually hungry or need it delivered, do yourself a favor and buy from somewhere else. Heck, you might as well go check out the freezer aisle at Smiths since youll have to microwave it anyway. Also, make sure you post your photos and populate the google page before it gets deleted again (possibly related to all the previous reviews and comments regarding the small portions). The good news is that it is really easy to (re-)add a missing business to Google Maps.
