Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park - Park and Garden in Lac La Biche, Canada
Beautiful cabins. Park was in excellent condition. Staff were friendly and very accommodating and helpful. We will definitely be back
This Island campground is very pretty and has great walking trails. Lots of birds! Small store with some essential food, snacks and gear. Clean showers and flush toilets in the same building. Also pit toilets in the camping loops.
Best campground and the location is perfect!
We really enjoyed our stay in theur comfort cabins. Very clean and comfortable. Beautiful lake view front and at night beautiful stars and northern lights
A beautiful park, well maintained sites. Great walking trails, excellent beach.
Great campground...tons of trails and places to walk. Theres a few beaches so you can spread out if its busy. Huge day use area with multiple "sites" to use. Beautiful for scenery. Lots of wildlife. They have a store and sell pops, ice cream, camping supplies, beach toys, etc, which is always a bonus. Town isnt too far which is convenient. They also have a couple playgrounds to entertain the kidlets.2022 showed us terrible blue/green algae all over the lake so it made it hard to fish, swim or tube, but we managed. Also had warnings this year of fecal bacteria so the campground beach was recommended that it not be used. I would definitely double check those details, but otherwise a great provincial park!
Nice campsites seems to have plenty of amenities fairly well kept.
I came here for work to do some trail maintenance... Great park! The trails are beautiful, though some are maintained better than others. Maps are posted in multiple places to make navigating the park easy. There is a large beach, picnic sites, a decent sized campground with an ice cream store, and other fun things!
Beautiful park, worth the drive out to come have a look. A few nice beaches, but its a shame the water has a fecal and blue green algae advisory right now.
Park and campground was great. The swing advisory for blue green algae was disappointing so we went somewhere else for a beach day.
A beautiful park with a wonderful beach. The kids enjoyed the scenery, hiking, and swimming. We will definitely be returning.
Our favorite place to camp!Sites are very spacious and lots of room between you and the next site with lots of birch, spruce and Saskatoon trees.
The park, campground and amenities are all very nice. Lovely sandy beaches. We couldn’t swim because of an algae bloom, which are very common there.
Wonderful campground with very nice tall trees for privacy and to hang a hammy. Trails and beach are very nice and staff is lovely.
Best Ive been too yet in Canada. But the reason for a low rating is as follows. You cant have more than one unit per campsite without paying an extra fee. Or if their your direct family memeber. For instance son or daughter is fine. Brother or sister, forget it. It makes no sense.Quiet time like every Canadian campsite is 11pm... we might as well have stayed in the city and made as much noise in our own homes. Whats the point of vacay if youre going to bed early? And the neighbors wont say anything to you. They run to head office for everything. There lakes were full of feces and blue algae so forget about swimming. I feel like everyone should have been given that notice and a chance for a refund before wasting their time. Overall very disappointed with my experience here. 😕 I hope future campsites will make it more adult friendly where we can enjoy ourselves at anytime if we so please.
Quite place and has a nice view . Cabin is very clean and has everything you need. We enjoyed our vacation
Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is a beautiful campground BUT........The water has a pretty bad bluegreen algae problem. The swarms of mayflies are almost intolerable. AND....the combination of the dead mayflies in the water and the bluegreen algae mix together for this smell like nothing youve ever smelled before:/ Then the seagulls arrive to add to the mix.We were just steps from the beach and left our reservation early. The locals said you have to get there in the first 3 weeks if July to be able to enjoy it.We likely wont be returning:(
We rented the hall. Great place for a group under 150. Very good kitchen facilities. Beautiful sunsets too!
Very quiet and relaxing place!
This has to be one of the most awesome provincial parks Ive ever been to I wish I could rate it 10 Stars so beautiful amazing oh my God definitely recommend everybody go there spend money
There are two beaches open for day use, a dedicated day use beach with a roped off swimming area. This area also has a group use cooking area with tables and a hearth. The campers beach is close to a store (that accepts interac), this also comes with a shower and bathroom stalls. This beach also has public use life jackets and a roped off area.Lots of hiking trails and plentiful bird watching. Not to mention the powered and unpowered camping sites. Two boat launches and two kids playgrounds also compliment it. As well as a sewage dump for your camper rv.Well worth even a drive around the loop road to gander at the old growth forest.
Stunning views, day use area is good, better place for a family outing, sand beaches and swimming area also there.
This is a great place with lots to do. The camp sites are large, spacious and private with lots of trees and foliage around them. The campground and the rest of the park have many trails of various lengths, so if you like hiking, there are lots to do.
Staying in the comfort cabins has been phenomenal. Lakeviews and wildlife while having the "at home" feeling. Cabins are beautiful and exceedingly well maintained.
Beautiful Lac La Biche Lake and love this park trails and camping sites beautiful place
So far so good first time here and its a hit with us.. i believe its to capacity and hardly a noise from a neighbor.. seems like its well designed.. will definitely be booking for future spots!
Just a nice place. Beautiful setting. Very nice and friendly people. Has all what a camper needs .
Its a great campground with lots of hiking trails, biking trails and you can put your kayak or canoe in the water from several camping sites. Its quiet and there are animals roaming through at various times if the day. Washrooms and showers were clean and open. We had a great stay!
Excellent place for camping and day tour. Good for kids. Very nice beaches. Day use beach is very clean water. You can rent boat and canoes for half of the day.
We stayed in loop D site 49,Very private spot close to everything..🌳We hiked the whole island....we did the outside trail day one was just over 10km.Second day we did the remaining trails and that was just over 12km.🥾Totally doable in one day...😊++Showers are free and open all night++🚿There is also washing machines and dryers which are coin operated.🪙You can hire paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes from the main office.🛶As well as buy delicious ice cream🍦And there were lots of life jackets you can borrow for free on the beach.⛱There are a few grocery stores, liquor stores, takeout and gas stations in lac-la biche if you need them.Enjoy your stay amd dont forget your binoculars to view pelican island...🔍
Beautiful but, if there is an algae bloom it is quite stinky near the water. Watch for stinging nettle on trails and in sites. The spots arent very wide. The park is beautiful. Better for tenting than campers. The sites are nice and private. Park store and staff are great.
Nice park with private lots, unfortunately the lake had algae and swimming was not safe. Showers and washrooms were far away. Bike ride to town was nice with the nice paved trail all the way
The drive to the campground was stunning. Plenty of bugs so be sure to bring spray.
Beautiful area, quiet and lots of places to enjoy the lake
This is by far the loveliest provincial park Ive been to in Alberta. Gorgeous hiking trails and quiet, sandy beaches. I did a four day solo tent trip out here and had a blast. Quiet, fairly private spots. Hiking the entire island took me about 7 hours (~30km), and I brought my own kayak for a paddle one day. Tried fishing as well but no bites. I also rented a paddle board from the campground for $30/day, very fun option! Unfortunately there was quite a bit of wildfire smoke when I was there and a bit of a blue green algae bloom in the water but even those didnt dampen the trip (although be sure to rinse off well after touching the water). Would highly recommend this campground!
Great place for camping. Clean sites the lake is clean, Friendly staff, the ice cream from the store is unbelievable, a lot of trails & Lac La Bich is a clean town.
Great campground, very secluded sites. Good fire pit, solid picnic table.
This is a surprisingly beautiful park. We enjoyed the beach and trails. Lovely spot
Beautiful campsite! With beaches, trails and great ice cream. Very sheltered from the wind.Warning to any boaters that the lake is low this year. The boat launch is a non issue but go slow across the lake as there was various spots in the middle of the lake as little as 3 feet. I found a rock bed ( about a foot deepbetween the two islands in the narrows.Have fun but be careful😊
Camped here one night.Would recommend to check for green blue algae before going next time.Nice place.
We come here every year as we have a family in town. It never disappoints. Campsites are spacious and easily fit our 25ft trailer + truck. We love that they have powered sites, makes everything easier and quieter as nobody runs a generator! We tend to stay in loop B as it’s the closest to the beach. Usually we also enjoy the shower facilities they have but because it’s 2020 these are temporarily closed.Water levels this year are really high so the beach isn’t as spacious as it has been last year, the kids didn’t seem to mind. They also have a nice playground for kids to play at and it’s really close to the beach. If you enjoy walking the trails you won’t be able to enter all of them as some are closed due to flooding and others because of bears in the area (bear warning is up every year but we have yet to spot one or hear about someone else encounter). We enjoy all kinds of activities but we love this lake for fishing and always bring our boat. Fish here can get pretty big! We tend to prefer fishing Northern Pike, however this year these are not allowed to be kept so bare that in mind. This fishing season you can actually finally keep 1 Walleye (between 50-55cm). As much as that was easy to do in the past few years, now Walleyes are impossible to find.
Great campground. Beautiful scenery. Lots of trees between campsites. Nice water. Good trails.
This park is so beautiful and well maintained! Its nice and small so you dont feel crowded or that theres lots of traffic.
Nice hiking trials, BBQ areas, and amazing scenes by the lake.
Churchill has everything you need. The campsites are well treed. The facilities are new.It has beautiful walking paths, bike paths, parks, beach, camping, boating.
Cross country skied at the park in 2018. Half of the looped road was track set for classic skiing. It would be great if the groomed for skate skiing as well. Its about a 4 k loop with minimal hills. Great terrain for beginners. The short cuts through the park are skier set tracks. Skiied on the lake in 2019 around the island, much better with the limited snow. Great for a 20k skate ski.
We went camping with a group for the first time and the experience was simply AMAZING it is a nice park and the kids love the beach, so nice to relax and forget about work and city noise. I would recommend to anyone looking to enjoy nature.
Nice nature park, camp washrooms are top quality, nice views, too bad we couldnt swim because of the blue algae.
Very good experience. The cabins are spacious, clean and very well decorated. The furniture is very good quality and very comfortable. The kitchen has all the tools and dishes youll need. Every cabin has a BBQ with a gas line (no need to bring propaneand fire pit with a picnic table and benches. Views are beautiful.Picture and comments are based on a large cabin with two rooms and a futon. We also had a tipi. The tipi we had had some minor leaks from the rain. But otherwise very comfortable. 4 single beds, BBQ, fire pit, private large washroom with shower, private kitchen complete with all tools and dishes. Exceptionally great experience and its set up for a comfortable stay.Tipi has power, portable fan and heater.Highly recommended spot for comfort camping.
Nice and quiet! Sites are spaced for privacy and lots of trees to keep the wind down and cool. The site map needs updating and more accurate directions. Some sites need to be leveled better and uniform size.Bring your own wood, $5 for a small bundle and not very dry.The showers are free but only 3 in both the womens and the mens.Bring lots of bug spray...the good stuff lots of deet!fishing is great even from shore, landed a couple fat walleye and jack.
