I came around 6:05 something trying gets something to eat but they are closed and on the website it’s said they closed at 7pm

Hands down, the best soul food! I had the fried pork chops with mac and greens and everything was delicious! My husband hand the oxtails, butter beans and greens. He said they were phenomenal! We will definitely be coming back!

The food was great and there was an abundance of it. Will definitely go back!

I have enjoy the authentic African American Cuisine of SIMPS for many years. The family owned and operated Soul Food restaurant offer 4 or more main courses with 4-6 vegetable choices. From delicious Ox tails, fried chicken, pork chops, fried fish and shrimp and more, you cant go wrong. Portions are much more than generous. I usually get 2 meals for one.Check it out for yourself.

Place is FILTHY. CALLED HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO REPORT ROACHES. Owner is one of those characters who could care less about the roaches crawling all over the kitchen. If you like roaches and roach eggs all over your kitchen then this is the place for you. Enjoy.

I came all the way here from Philadelphia to get some soulfood 20 minutes prior to the stated closing time And tried calling as well to place an order. No one answered the phone, and when we arrive the open sign it was still lit and the door was still open, but they refused to give us any food. The owner stated they did not know what The website says for the closing time was. What a disappointment. Too bad what a missed opportunity to make some money.

The food was ok... Good portions ... Just wasnt a fan of the meatloaf i bought.... Ill might try something else next time im around.

Consistency is always best. Their always serving great food piping hot and down home across the board. This is the best!

Let me start off with this. I absolutely love simps, the food is amazing 10/10 everytime I go I’m never disappointed! But my only complaint is they close too early, they don’t take into account that people get off of work at 5:30-6:00 and simps closes either before that or at that time…so a lot of people miss out on their amazing food. Please close later! 7:00-7:30pm would be perfect to let every body get a taste of the best soul food in county!

Friendly staff and large portions. Oxtail on Thursdays and Sundays though I havent had in years. Smothered porkchops, with green, black eye peas and cornbread.

Excellent food. Oxtail cooked fall off the bone. Fish is seasoned well and crispy. Definitely worth the detour between Houston and Galveston

Food used to be good, now its horrible with no taste and they dont change the food in the pans often enough because you see the build up on the sides of the pan and they dont clean the area often enough either. IM NEVER GOING AGAIN!!!!!

I’m not a regular customer, but if I were to rate them truly like rn, I’d give them a five star just for the customer service and good food. Easily top five favorite restaurants to go to.

The home cooked meals are good, sometimes they meets served are too salty and the prices are too expensive. I would suggest going to Lubys instead. Theres a good variety of foods depending when you arrive, because once a certain meal or side is generally its gone.

Amazing soul food! You can never go wrong with Simps. Its that type a food you take a bite and automatically close your eyes and start shakin your head it tastes so good. This place was in my home town of Galveston for lots of years. After a hurricane many years ago it moved to La Marque.They serve cafeteria style. Today I went in and got a country style rib plate. Its served on a bed of white rice. I had it with the country gravy. For sides I had collard greens and yams. A cornbread muffin is included as well. Got it to go. Always delicious! So very flavorful. In my opinion one plate of theirs is big enough for two people. They serve large portions. Amazing food and huge portions. A plate will run you about $13.

Excellent, down home cooking. If they did reservations youd have to reserve weeks in advance, its always pack but well worth every second. If your had to choose this vs. Mama Frances.... Simps hand down.

Love this restaurant, I dont care if you select fried chicken, pork chops, smothered pork chops, YUM it is all great, than you add the fixens on the side, again all are great.The ladies are always happy to see you, as they give the best service while they fill your plate with a Texas size serving that is guaranteed to fill your belly.

The portions are large and the food is tasty. We arrived about 45 minutes before close and they were out of most of the meats. My husband got a veggie plate since he doesnt eat seafood or pork & there were no other options available. This is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, great food & value for the money. Next time we are in town, we will visit again.

Amazing! I was craving some home cooked food while in Texas for a few days.... Located Simps online and drove about 26 minutes... Staff was friendly... I ordered the smothered pork chops, yams, and Mac n cheese... Let me tell you the food is enough to eat half and save the other half to eat later..Will eat there again if im in the area.

Awesome customer service. You get lots of food for your buck. I wouldve liked flavor in the rice & the mac n cheese was watery not creamy. We had the ox tails, they were delicious & very flavorful along with the collared greens & green beans. The cornbread is the best Ive ever had.

Food is great!!! No where near what it was in Galveston. On Friday (fish & shrimp dayin Galveston you would get way more than most could eat. At this one i only got 5 shrimp and the staff is rude. I really hate that because i still love the food when i want to treat myself.

Want not as good as usual. The broccoli cheese and rice was sour. Tried to call 3 times not to complain but to let them know to pull it off the line. When you are serving food the temp must be checked often. Also they need to answer the phone.

Everything was very tasty, we got ox tails, short ribs, green beans, collards, corn, and corn bread. Its buffet style - you choose from whats been prepared for the day. People waiting in the parking lot for them to open, nice staff!

I have never been disappointed in the quality and variety this little home town place brings to their table. Tastes that you wish your grandmother could have made--every day. The portions are huge and the flavors will make you pass out you cant quit shoving it in your mouth. Simple mac and cheese becomes a gourmet item alongside their other great dishes. Just close your eyes and point at anything and you will love it.

Food is good. The way the let people pile up in a small environment during this coronavirus is a no go for me. Especially when we pay for our food and not immediately leave with it..... They fix the food as you order it then wait till everyone is through ordering. They take your money first then give the people who ordered first their plates its like order your food, wait, pay for your food, wait... Then wait for you to be called in the order you came... I was in there for at least 13min. For food already prepared.

Everything Ive tried has been spot on delicious. Hadnt been in a couple of years. Went last Friday. Gumbo is always hands down the best of any restaurant Ive ever had. No other restaurant even comes close. Decided to get pie. Sweet potato pie taste and texture was exactly how I always wish pie would be. And the PECAN PIE... OMG! I dont know what wizard is in the kitchen creating it. The Absolute Best pecan pie I have ever had. The food is fantastic, but I can hardly wait to get back for the pie.

Fried catfish (made to order), cabbage, mac and cheese, along with smothered pork chops and a whole lemon meringue pie was the best Ive had in a long time! Huge portions and a reasonable price. 5 star quality in a homey casual setting.Will DEFINITELY be back for more!

Amazing food would give 5 stars but 2 reasons why I dont.1. They open at 11 they never open on time or answer the phone and you will be waiting outside and the staff is just standing around inside looking at you like your stupid, very rude.2. You have to buy your drink separate .But other then these thing great place love the food

Love coming here on Fridays specifically for the fried shrimp plate... yummmmy! but be warned, they dont offer any tartar sauce, so take it to go if you like to indulge with sauce varieties. Big portions soften the blow of the hefty price tag. Most def worth a stop by for some good soul food if you are in the area. love the cornbread muffins as well.

We have been enjoying the soul food and home cooking of simps for years, back when they were on the island. Food as always amazing, portions are enough for 2 people or at least 2 meals. Yes it seems a little pricey but its well worth it and enough food to compensate.Hopefully they still have gumbo on Fridays. Packed full of in season seafood my favorite is the crab claws

This place has been around for as long as i can remember just different locations. This is where in my opinion you come for some good ol soul food. Black owned and family operated. They offer different food options daily ranging from ox tails to smothered pork chops. The sides range from broccoli rice and cheese to green beans. Also if you love lemon cake its great here!

Great place for home cooked soul food. The people are friendly and the portions are excellent! I had the fried chicken, which was seasoned well and delicious. Thre greens and mac and cheese is screaming! Also, the candied sweet potatoes are the best Ive ever had. I recommend this place for some down home casual food

The best " Down Home Soul Food" Ive ever had. Most all of the reviews I have read agree,but some said the employees had a bad attitude. I strongly disagree, evidently they had not met "Noel".She was very friendly and met us with a smile. We just moved close by and will be back often. So if you are in the area come on by and give them a try, but bring a hardy appetite because the helpings are hugeENJOY!

Ate there today first the first time because someone I know recommended it. It was well worth the 30 minute drive. FANTASTIC food. Ate with two other people. We all three ordered different food and sides & literally EVERYTHING was top notch far as food quality goes. They know what they are doing for sure in terms of food preparation. I will absolutely be going back on a regular basis and recommending it to others. I think this is the first review Ive ever left online but the food deserves our appreciation. Thank you Simps.

Well after a few weeks from my coworkers and moving close to this place I had to come and check it out. Let me say I am very impressed on how much food you get and it was spot on for taste. By far some of the very best soul food restaurant that my wife and I have found.
