Sandy space with ocean & bay shorelines offering fishing, swimming & picnicking, plus RV camping.
Yup it’s Friday no School for my kids. The beach is empty, and is clean right now as well!
Our family beach destination for over 20 years. Expansive parking, bathroom facilities are acceptable, sand and the ocean is close to parking lot. Picnic benches and ramadas at lifeguard headquarters complex are fairly well maintained. California State Park, so there is an entrance fee. Seasonal food and beverage concession closed during and post-pandemic. A beautiful and expansive beach, perfect for long walks. Lifeguards present during peak seasons / times. Certain areas of this beach subject to riptides. Campground available with advance reservations.
Great place with lots of parking. Its so cool to see all the muscles in the sand. Reasonably priced admission and the beach is huge. While we were there, someone was stung by a stingray. There are lots of signs warning about sting rays, so just be careful.
First time visiting. I’ve lived in California 4years now and I’ve never been!! I’m so delighted that I made the long trip here. Such a marvelous sight to see. It costs $12-$15 for parking though. The beach is beautiful, clean and sunset is magnificent! I highly recommend and I’ll definitely return.
Beautiful beach. Clean shore. White sand and blue water make your day. Best beach for kids to play.
Stayed here for 4 days in early September. Most beautiful place Ive ever stayed. The staff is a well oiled machine and do a great job running the place and keeping it clean. Cant wait to come back
This my preferred beach, Silver Strand State Beach, Cornado, Ca. If you get there early, youll get first dibs on the Sand Dollars!! Use parking machine @Lot 3 to prepay, saves you from getting a parking violation.Enjoy! 🌊🌴⛱🐚🌞⏳
Nice beach, but couldn’t swim on the ocean side.
I like this beach so much because it is empty most of the time. They have plenty of parking spaces but what I just noticed is that they started to charge for the parking which they didnt before 😳😤. But still worth the ride to come here, I love the road!
Nice relaxing ride. Signs say no motorized vehicles or motorized bicycles, However, half of the bikes I saw were E bikes. Just peddle your bike, be safe and respectful and you wont have an issue.
Beautiful! Easy to get to, not busy, the water looked clean, but there was a sign that said there might be sewage water?? But I feel like thats the issue on the entire California coast lolAll in all great beach and decently solid waves!
We liked the campground and that it has electric and water hookups. But we were not able to go into the ocean due to contaminated water from Mexico. And the bug infested seaweed lining the beach is not pleasant.
The beach was easily accessible and because its paid parking the lots are pretty empty. There is a pay station near the bathrooms. Not too crowded. We went for a picnic and to find shells. When we arrived there was a sign about the water contamination. Didnt worry too much about it until my kids were playing in the water and the water started changing colors 🤢. Then I noticed the beach was stained with this possible sewage. I wont be coming back to this beach. There are better more cleaner beaches up the coast. I recommend Torrey Pines we also went there and the water was clean no sewage signage and same parking fee. There barely any seaweed either. Silver strand beach had massive amounts of seaweed and the smell was pretty bad. Also there was more garbage on the beach than the other beaches we visited.
We have been coming to Silver Strand State Beach for 5 or 6 years. We visit California every summer from Arizona because my kids love to surf and boogie board. The beach is nice and very clean. The waves are good for surfing and boogie boarding. There is plenty of parking, showers, restrooms, and a few picnic tables. The beach does get busy but never feels crowded. There are lifeguards present. Be aware of stingrays. We just returned from a long weekend in July and there were so many stingrays this time. My oldest son did step on one and get stung. The lifeguard was very helpful and sent my son to the main tower to soak his foot. There were 5 other people that had also been stung and were doing the foot soak the same time as my son. I dont know if weve just been lucky our other times there or if the stingrays were just out in full force this time.
Beautiful and clean. We were at the campground for 3 nights in December 2021. We are here again in July, 2022. Campground is on the smaller size, which makes it all the better. Offers water and electric. Dump station on the way out for a cost. Ocean front goes for miles. Lots of shells on the beach. The bike path is across the street and runs both ways, north to Coronado and south to Imperial Beach where youll find restaurants within a few miles.
So nice that you can walk right onto the beach!
Very clean beach. Bathrooms where kept clean and stocked all day long. Garbage cans filled quickly with the crowds there. Man kept very busy collecting it all day long. Felt more resort like than a public beach.
Nice relatively clean bathrooms. Clean sand as well, no trash piles anywhere. Helpful beach guards. Good parking close to the beach.
Great beach and very easy to park. $12 on Tuesday’s lots of shells for the kids to play with.
Best beach for the family. Less crowded, calmer waters, good changing area. Definitely try it.
Pretty beach. No dogs allowed. Have to pay to park I think it was $7 for 3 hours? Can’t remember. Great for sunset view !
We used to love this beach, recently returned on vacation with our dog. Beach is no dogs allowed. Seriously? I know not all dog owners are smart but my pup is better than most children. Just saying
The RV park deserves 10 stars for location alone! we parked and made dinner as we watched the waves crash on the beach. the access to the beach was so easy from any place in the rv park. when reserving you get clear pictures of the spot you are reserving. Only wish was there were better bathrooms, we have a bathroom in our van but dont use it unless on the road so the walk to the bathrooms was a long one and they were made for the public as changing rooms for surfers and anyone who needs them from the area not actually for the RV park.I would still go there 10/10 every time I get a chance. I suggest waling the beach at night it is breathtaking with the city lights beside it.
Very nice beach w easy parking . Is known to have many stingrays in water.
pretty quiet beach with heaps of parking. this would probably be a bit more packed on a warmer day, but it’s far enough off the beaten path that it doesn’t get as much traffic as coronado. happy to take in the sun, enjoy my dinner, and take a nice long walk here enjoying the solitude.
We left with with a bag full of shells! Hardly anyone was on the entire beach! Clean sand, bathrooms and showers to rinse off the sand. Worth the $10 to park.
It’s a parking lot that happens to be adjacent the beach. $65 gets you hookups and a view of the dune (can’t actually see the shoreline unless you cross the dune.). Many folks partying, but several families as well. Restrooms sub-par, only outdoor shower. Unfortunately, this wsd our worst CA state park experiment after having stayed in several others. Moreover, the state park personnel were grumpy, bossy and unfriendly. Glad we only stayed one night and won’t return.
First time here and for sure not the last!! This place was awesome!! We had a great 4 days there and we wish we could have stayed longer!!! Next time for a week or more!!
This is my favorite beach. Not crowded ever because you have to pay to park in the lot. It has decent bathroom facilities. Very clean beach with beautiful views of the Pacific ocean and Point Loma.
We spent almost an entire day here. We walked probably 10 plus miles. I found tons of pretty seashells. The beach was mostly empty all day. It was us plus less than 10 other people on a Tuesday afternoon and evening. It was peaceful and magical to watch ships!
Beautiful bike path that takes you from Imperial Beach to Coronado. Rode 15.9 miles round trip on my ebike and there was still some path in Coronado that I didnt venture too. Many places along the way to stop and enjoy the view. Even on a hot day the wind keeps you cool since you have the ocean on one side and the bay on the other. Definitely one of the best bike paths to take in San Diego.
Gorgeous views, pretty well maintained, the sunsets are great. They do have an entrance fee. Parking is usually available.
Youll have to pay to park, but at least you can find parking easy and every space is close to easy beach access.Great news too is that the beach is relatively smooth and calm
The park is nice. The hosts are nice. But there is only one area with bathrooms at one end of the park. The beach access is nice, close and super easy. Theres a path under the road to lead to so many other paths for biking, walking or running. On the other side of the road from the park is the bay. There is another shower and bathroom area, picnic seating, bay swimming and boating. The waves here are fine but not conducive to surfing. Much calmer than up north.
Great State beach with an insane amount of parking right next to the sand. Easy access for disabled folks. Day use fees are $10 (M-F)/$12 (Sat-Sun). Twenty yards of groomed dry sand with 20-30 yrds of wet sand depending on the tides so theres lots of room to spread out. Sand sparkles with fools gold giving the beach its name; some kelp. Nice public restrooms, picnic tables, and even beach chairs & umbrellas for rent (free for hotel guests. No fire pits. Potentially great for treasure hunting. Lots open at 7 am.
The most delightful beach for hanging out all day. Bathrooms, showers, ample parking, RV overnight stay okay. This beach is clean and well maintained. Pay your parking after you park. There are parking pay machines by the bathrooms and it accepts credit cards. Take a quick picture of your license plate as you will need to enter the number when purchasing parking. BBQ on the beach is okay. You can also tailgate. Beautiful sea glass found here.
The place is great. The spaces are fairly tight and the camp hosts arent the friendliest. The rangers were great. All in all nice place to visit.
We really enjoyed our time at the Silver Strand Beach Campground. We have a smaller trailer (26 feetso there was no issue getting our trailer and our tow vehicle in the same space. Some people with larger trailers opted to pay and park overnight in an adjacent lot. Just an FYI- There are no pay showers, just the regular showers at the beachside. The beach itself is very nice and has very soft sand and a lifeguard was present even during the week if that is a concern for some. The bay and bike trails are easily accessible from the campground via a tunnel under the highway.
Well, boy we were close to our neighbor! There is not much room between sites. No fire pits at the site nor on the beach. Oh, and no campground showers. That said, we were very close to the beach with a less than 30 second walk. And the beach was wonderful, with low rolling waves and clean sand.
If you want a more secluded experience, go to the bay side of the beach. I saw only two others during our hike. However, for some reason, theres only one working bathroom on the bay side.
Good for a few days of beach and SD shenanigans. Great location for exploring SD. Basic RV parking lot w water and electric hook up. Downside is gates close at specific times throughout the year, so Uber back and walk to your spot if you want a late night out.Would def stay again due to location and beach access is sweet.
Absolutely loved it. First time here, the water was freezing but other than that we loved it. Not crowded at all, you do need to pay for parking which isnt too bad $8 for the whole day. Lots of sea shells on the beach if you like that kind of thing, my family loves it so we spent some time looking for some beautiful shells.
Long stretches of beach, so many shells when the tide goes down. My favorite beach, secluded with random surfers and clam diggers. It is a quiet beach that we love! $2 per hr to park, clean bathrooms and showers. Also camping further down the parking lot.
Pay parking makes this place a great stretch of beach. No crowds, but still get bathrooms and infrastructure. $2 an hour. $8 for the day. Worth it!
My family has camped here for the last 16 years and I hope to be able to continue the tradition for many years to come. Its a state beach so it has extremely clean bathrooms and parking lots. The views are amazing at all angles and the waves and beach are very mellow which is great for kids.
Very nice place to enjoy walking on the beach. Lots of room to spread out and breathe the fresh air. Fun to see all the surfers trying to catch a big wave. The public restrooms were very clean and well maintained. It was worth the $10 entry fee.
My family and I were there two weeks ago; the climate was 70 degrees and cloudy. We got there at 11am and waited for 10 minutes to get in. It costs ten bucks to get in. You can take your trailer, but they require that you have the usual hook ups.The water was too cold for me. If the sun was out, it would of been a different story. COVID 19 rules were stay in your shade and wear masks if someone walks closer than 6 feet from you. You are required to wear masks when your walking about or at the restrooms. The restrooms were very clean. Although the staff were rude knocking on my door and telling me to hurry up. Very unprofessional!!We broke out the grill for the carne asada and quesadillas for lunch. They have showers too. They have coal pits for used coal on the edge of the parking lots. We had a great time at Silver Stand Beach. We left at 6pm, but i think they close at 8. Good luck!!
Love this beach, especially in winter! You have to pay to park ($4 for 2 hours and $8 for all day). Its easy to get in and out of and the beach is right next to the parking lot. Its patrolled regularly and it felt safe and clean. We went in March and the water didnt seem that cold. The beach is pretty flat and you can go in pretty far without the beach floor dropping down, which is great for little kids. There are facilities with bathrooms and picnic tables. Theres a place to get food (only open in the summer). I did NOT see a place to wash off (no showers or place to rinse your feet), but maybe I just missed that.
Spectacular sunsets the beach is wonderful except you cant swim because of the contaminants, but the walks on the beach and seashell hunting is great, Camping is very tight, Pretty scary when the camper next to you has a fire pit 10 feet away from your rig. This is definitely a safe family friendly RV park just make sure your in the park by 7pm because the gates are locked until the am,
Amazing place to visit and enjoy. For a while, I thought Ive seen most of the places in San Diego, but the surprises are immense. Silver Strand Beach really has the variety of the ocean and the bay with couple of steps apart. You can enjoy surfing on one side where there are a lot of waves, and enjoy kayaking, canoeing, and other activities on the other side where the water is shallower. On top of that, the views there are just amazing!
