Visit it in March 2019. A beautiful pagoda located on the way to Old Bagan. Should visit in late afternoon. The road to the pagoda is quite dusty; however, this is the general situation of the temples in Bagan.
The unique feature of this pagoda is that it is built of sandstone unlike any other deity
Famous place in Myanmar, located at Bagan.
As with some many places in Burma, there is a lot to take in, and one visit might not be enough. However, in Bagan there are so many temples that time spent at each might necessarily be short. Shwezigon was beautifully clean when I visited, and in the bright sunlight the whiteness of some of the structures actually hurt my eyes. As elsewhere, there are plenty of nats and other mythical creatures to accompany you on your trip, and an extraordinary number of stupas theoughout. Remember to wear a hat too.
A glamorous pagoda, less crowds, clean interiors to walk around. Don’t get into the haggling markets, just walk straight to the pagoda, and spend sometime understanding the significance of various features of this magnificent structure.
Quite simply one of the most beautiful temples not only in Bagan but in Myanmar. It is absolutely stunning and such a tranquil location. Beautiful stings of flowers for sale and left as offerings. Plenty of places to get unobscured photos of the pagoda
Spiritual cultural attraction in the middle of Yangon. Impressive in size and statur. During our visit we were approached by a loca man who offered a guided tour for $10. We took him up on the offer and it was well worth the money learning about the history and cultural significance of Shwezigon Pagoda.
Bagan in Myanmar, land of temples and pagodas frequently also having market stalls nearby.Stunningly beautiful pagoda, so many photo opportunities from every angle.
Impressive golden pagoda in Bagan. This one inspired the large Pagoda in Yangon that was built 400 years later. Easy to access and not crowded at all. Well maintained and vendors nearby in case you want a souvenir. Worth a visit if you are in Bagan.
Very beautiful pagoda. If you visit at night time , you can see the nice one . Also have the unseen one, you can see the pagoda in small puddle❤️❤️❤️❤️
This pagoda a Buddhist religious place, is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha. The pagoda is in the form of a cone formed by five square terraces with a central solid core. There are footprints below the four standing Buddha statues here. Jataka legends are depicted on glazed terra-cotta tiles set into three rectangular terraces. At the entrance of the pagoda there are large statues of guardians of the temple. There are also four bronze standing statues of Buddha which are stated to be of the current age Buddha. At the outer limits of the pagoda there are 37 nats deified along with an intricately carved wooden sculpture of Thagyarmin a Burmese version of Hindu god Indra. Within the compound of the Shwezigon Pagoda there is a stone pillar containing Mon Language inscriptions dedicated by Kyansittha. (FromWiki😁😎)
The pagoda is very outstanding. You can see it appearing on the horizon from afar. This is our 1st stop in Bagan. The place is crowded. Quite interesting to come inside and walk around, seeing people coming for worshiping and praying. It has many gates. We came from a gate with less ppl. :Remember to take your shoes off before coming in. We just placed our shoes at the gate, with no prblems. Nobodies would take your shoes away 😃
It start early morning and is closed at about 10 pm. There are litle local guides (girlscan explain the history of the pagoda. It is an interesting charming pagoda to visit
Magnificent golden temple with multiple separate rooms featuring different parts of Buddah stories. Easily accessible via different entrances. Beautiful Banyan tree in separate garden area with four smaller golden Buddahs.
It has a dāna sãla if you want to come early before it gets hot, it also has a sprawling evening and day market for every type of craving you can muster.
A large, golden pagoda, worth a look if you havent seen a lot of pagodas. But be prepared to run the gauntlet of hawkers.
Famous ancient sacred pagoda in Nyaung-UFull of history since 13th century if I m not wrongYou have a lot things to look around in the pagoda areaOnly annoyance was street hawkers waiting at all entrance gates !Many gift and souvenirs shops along the roofed corridor to the entrance gatesParking area is large and cleanGreat experience!
One of famous pagodas in World heritage listed Bagan and also sample of ancient architecture, built by kings who founded first union of Myanmar. Good access, spacious parking lot, well lit that good for evening sightseeing and clean environment.
A must-see in Bagan. If you are reading this review, you don’t need to. Awesome golden pagoda, which appears twice as brilliant in the sun on a clear day. Saw a lot of tourists taking photos of a ‘thing’ in a small water-filled hole (picture attached), coudn’t figure out what it was, any ideas?
A large temple complex with one of the largest golden stupas dominating the site. Its name and design is similar to the one in Yangon (Shwedagon Pagodaalbeit much smaller. The temple is believed to house the relic bone and tooth of Siddartha Gautama, the Buddha. As usual, footwear is not allowed so in mid afternoon your feet can get hot on the paving! The night view is lovely in floodlights and cooler! There are many other halls and things to see so allow enough time. Some great photo opportunities too.
If you stay in Nyaung U, this will likely be your first Bagan site visit. Its a beautiful place. From the entrance, go right to the temple complex (the staff will lend you a longyi for free if your clothes is not covering enough, but just in case, try to dress moderately). Theres a ticket scanning near the entrance and strangely nowhere else in Bagan. If you go left and continue past the market (avoid buying! They employ dishonest tactics), youll find a nice photo spot.
One very old and beautiful temple at Bagan. Shoes are not allowed inside or at the compound of the temple and as such, its advisable to go in the evening, to avoid the heated floor at noon. Great to capture the beauty of Shwezigon Pagoda with the lighting, cool evening and the locals offering their prayers. A great place for photography too.
One of the famous ancient pagodas in Old Bagan. The best time to visit around this area is Early morning or evening to avoid from very hot sunlight.
I visited during the Thingyan (waterfestival and there were MANY Myanmar/ Burmese tourists but few foreigners. Great to see how people celebrate this place and the beauty that has been standing for centuries. Do not skip this complex during your stay in Bagan.
Winter season is more preferable due to hot season in Bagan.
The famous pagada at Bagan have a lot of tourism visit their. This pagoda near Naung Oo around 3-5 miles pagoda is gold colour sharep like bell . This pagoda building at the time of the King Anoyatha
The Shwezigon Pagoda is one of the oldest and most impressive monuments of Bagan. Most noticeable is the huge gold plated pagoda glimmering in the sun. The design of the Shwezigon Pagoda has been copied many times across Burma over the centuries.Several shrines and temple buildings have been added to the complex since construction of the stupa in the year 1090. As the pagoda enshrines a number of sacred Buddhist relics, it is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists. The Shwezigon festival held during the 9th month of the Burmese calender (Decemberattracts thousands of devotees. This was originally a month dedicated to paying respect to the ancient Nat spirits, before Theravada Buddhism became prevalent in Burma. After dark the pagoda is wonderfully illuminated by spotlights that give the place a mystical atmosphere. The Shwezigon was damaged by several earthquakes including the large 1975 quake, but has been restored since. The Shwezigon Pagoda was built by King Anawrahta who founded the Bagan Kingdom in 1044. After a monk from the Thaton Kingdom had converted the King to Theravada Buddhism the campaign of massive temple building began on the plains of Bagan.King Anawrahta built the pagoda to enshrine several Buddha relics, including a copy of the sacred tooth relic of Kandy in Sri Lanka. According to legend, the spot where the pagoda was to be built was chosen by a white elephant carrying the relic on his back. Construction started around 1059, the pagoda was completed at the end of the 11th century during the reign of King Kyanzittha.
There is a belief that this Shwezogon Pagoda should be visited sufficiently before dawn.So we were taken to this Pagoda at small hours.Yet I must admit that (Mostly others too if they are honestwithout taking bath sat in the bus right from the slumber without even clearing the contents of the stomach!!!.I had to cooperate with the team to visit this Pagoda. The Pagoda looked nothing less than a real gold under the floor light. Many people carried out their morning prayer. I did nothing more than filling my camera and Mobile with photographs!
Great big pagoda with lots of tourists. Walk around clockwise and check the small pool of water to get a picture of the reflection of the pagoda. There is a bunch stalls selling tourist souvenirs as well, remember to bargain for a better price.
Stunning pagoda very close to Old Bagan. I biked and it was only about a 20 min ride. You have to ride on the road but cars and tuk tuks will beep at you to let you know they are coming and they go around you.Lots of beautiful buildings and looks very picturesque when the monks come out to look at the pagoda as well.
The Shwezigon Pagoda or Shwezigon Paya(ရွှေစည်းခုံဘုရားis a Buddhist temple located in Nyaung-U, a town near Bagan, in Myanmar. A prototype of Burmese stupas, it consists of a circular gold leaf-gilded stupa surrounded by smaller temples and shrines. Construction of the Shwezigon Pagoda began during the reign of King Anawrahta (r. 1044–77), who was the founder of the Pagan Dynasty, in 1059–1060 and was completed in 1102 AD, during the reign of his son King Kyansittha. Over the centuries the pagoda had been damaged by many earthquakes and other natural calamities, and has been refurbished several times. In recent renovations it has been covered by more than 30,000 copper plates. However, the lowest level terraces have remained as they were. This pagoda, a Buddhist religious place, is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha. Shwezigon is often compared to the golden Shwedagon Pagoda that located in Yangon. According to legend, more than 30 tons of gold was used in its construction and thousands of precious stones were mounted on the top of the edifice. There are also believed to be a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha.Buddhist temple is the place of worship for Buddhists, the followers of Buddhism. They include the structures called vihara, stupa, wat and pagoda in different regions and languages. Temples in Buddhism represent the pure land or pure environment of a Buddha. These magnificent historical temples were constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, in the prosperous Kingdom of Bagan. You can see the Bagan beautiful sunrise and sunset from this buddha temple.
One of my favourite pagodas in Bagan, it does look similar to other temples you will see in Yangon and other parts of Myanmar but its still beautiful and I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the evenings as the sunset shines of the gold...
Nice pagoda. It is like the Shwedagon of Bagan. Do note that near the north side of the pagoda, someone will ask you to visit the lucky Buddha. Do not go there if you dont want to spent a few thousand kyat for a religious blessing (show)
Shwezigon Pagoda, is a Buddhist temple build around the 11th century. This temple have been damaged several times. You can see the pagoda is pretty smooth now with lots of gold leaves and shopper plates due to the recent reconstruction. However, their are Windows of faded old carvings you can see surrounding the pagoda which should be whats remain of the ancient pagoda. There are stairs going up but its locked. No one is allowed up. You can walk around the pagoda and find many small shrines and Buddha statues. This pagoda, a Buddhist religious place, is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha. Its worth visiting this golden pagoda.
Beware: 1the merchant, they will instruct you to park your vehicle near theirs stall and tell you the wrong entrance to their stall. 2persons that give you FREE gift/flower, teach you how to worship, everythings are not FREE after that.
Under construction. Only very top of pagoda is visible, the rest is covered in ugly mats. Way way TOO many persistent scammers and sellers. You wont get left alone if you look foreign. Make sure you dont accept any gifts from anyone or go look at the "lucky" Buddha statue with a local
Big and beautiful pagoda. This is a first one pagoda to be constructed in 11th century by the great king of Myanmar.
