A great starting place for the young ones to learn about its history and the history of their great grandfathers and great, great grandfathers, and the sacrifice they’d made in fighting a dirty government’s war that should never have happened. A whole generation of men was lost in the 1st war & then in the 2nd wars, leaving women behind to have to raise their children without a father, and it also left a shortage of good men for those single unmarried women. The young ones need to be taught the truth of it all, and sadly, they won’t find it at The Shrine - they’ll have to do their own research, or learn from their parents and grandparents….

It doesnt take too long to explore the free museum and magnificent halls of the Shrine of Remembrance and its well worth doing so on a day out. The views from the balcony are awesome and I would highly recommend going there at least once if you live in or are visiting Melbourne.

If you are visiting Melbourne, this is one of the place you must visit. The place is symbolic.I got there right in time, as they close the entry to the shrine at 4.30 pm (please confirm this as daylight savings might affect it)If you are really into the history, you could spend hours here. But even an hour long visit will suffice if you’re in rush to visit other places in the city!

Very unexpected amazing Remembrance shrine and military museum. The internal structure has a full military exhibition from the start of Australias history to now. There are a few spectacular rooms in the old building with great fews on the balcony. Make sure you have plenty of time to really look at all of the history displays.

This is a must visit for those people who love history and are interested in the World War I & II era. By the way you can see a very nice view of Melbourne in the rooftop. By the way, Royal Botanic Garden is just walking distance.

A beautiful restoration of the inside of the 1934 Shrine has made it a superb, modern Museum. My visit was a moving experience, enhanced by the knowledge of the volunteers I was fortunate enough to chat to. I spent 1.5hrs there. Be sure to go right to the top of the Shrine.

Such a tasteful, detailed and well thought-out memorial.Originally opened in 1934 it has been beautifully modernised to incorporate so many of the important aspects of conflict, history, service and ultimately loss. The main focus is on the two World Wars however there are some interesting and tasteful exhibits on modern conflict, Aboriginal involvement and LGBTQI+ community. The Crypt and Shrine are suitably solemn and the viewing platform at the top of the shrine is definitely worth visiting.

Beautiful place, if you want to embrace Australias War History. I would say that the vibes are nicer than the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, but less experience. The view at the top is great on a clear day. The souvenir shop is extremely overpriced though.

This is an unbelievably incredible structure and easily the best War Memorial in Australia (even better than Canberras). The size and classic style of the place is incredible. Certainly a suitable shine built in honour if those that died for our freedoms today. Well worth the visit even if you have to go well out of your way to see it. The shine and its grounds are well maintained too, which is great to see.

Entrance to the very informative museum is free, as well as access to the roof with a beautiful view over this part of Melbourne. I did the guided tour and must say this tour was the greatest experience of my visit to Melbourne. I was alone with the exceptionally friendly guide, unfortunately I forgot his name, and he gave me so much knowledge that I learned here more than at any other museum. I highly recommend doing the tour if you have at least a tiny bit of interest for Australian history!

The Shrine of Remembrance, where the Australians remember the sacrifice of their fallen soldiers. It is a magnificent building with an old style architecture surrounded with huge and beautiful park. Located in city center near the south bank of the Yarra river. It is a good place to spend time with family and friends, especially in a sunny day.

The Shrine of Remembrance is truly a magnificent memorial to our servicemen and women. Apart from surrounding gardens, Shrine, monuments and an eternal flame, there is an extensive and highly informative exhibit and gallery at the bottom of the structure. The gallery leads to the crypt and then ascends to the balcony, which affords a panoramic view of surroundings, including the CBD, botanic gardens and Port Melbourne. I visited for 2-3 hours but will return again as theres more to read and see in the gallery. The NGV and Royal Botanic Gardens are also nearby.

It was a serene experience relieving the history of Victorians. Visited on a Sunday morning. The place was quite empty and we also witnessed a military ceremony to pay homage to the fallen in war.About how to reach: Tram services are available right in front of the place and Botanical Garden is just a walk away.

This morning I have witnessed Anzac Day Dawn Service with my Dad. He was proud to wear his medallion. The medallion was from my Grandfather who fought in Gallipoli during WW1. It was very teary session as remembering my Grandfather reminiscing those days to us.I went inside the shrine and it was preserved perfectly, as if it was built recently.

A must visit for any Victorian or visitor to our State. Not only because of the solemn purpose and meaning behind the Shrine But also for the brilliant museum which tells the story of Victoria’s participation in military conflicts since the states establishment in colonial days. The view from the balcony is moving and inspiring, the crypt a powerful space and the stone of remembrance always has an impact on me.Take a moment to visit, to stop, to learn and listen. To allow the noise of the city to fade and in your solitude.Remember.

Ive been to the park area and "seen" the Shrine many times living in Melbourne for over 40 years, though this was the first time visiting it properly. The gallery/museum area has a large range of information and displays from all eras of conflict and peacekeeping with Australians, and theres a central crypt and also access to the balcony with another perspective of the area and surrounds. The trees around the park each have dedication plaques to the numerous battalions, and a special place for a tree grown from the seed of the Gallipoli Lone Pine. For those of us lucky enough to be oblivious to war or even conflict, this is definitely a respectful and informative memorial to those that have served and sacrificed everything for our freedom.

In my opinion the most underrated landmark in Melbourne. Should be talked about and visited throughout the year, not just ANZAC Day.Came and did the VIP Guided tour (walk in customerfor $20, but there is a free daily tour. However I thought it was well worth the price and you get a more detailed and less crowded experience. Tour went for 50 mins, there’s some climbing of stairs so keep that in mind. The views up top are breathtaking. The museum on the bottom floor is well curated, maintained and full of knowledge. Can easily spend 1/2 a day here.
