Shri Banashankari Shakti Peetham, Badami in Gajendragarh
Description
Privilege
A serene and beautiful place.
Very Beautiful Idol. One must visit this place. One of the Shakti peetha in South India, Karnataka. Travel by own vehicle or train upto Badami & then Auto or Bus upto kerur n bus to Badami n Auto to Banshankari. Other nearby places Aihole, pattadkal etc.
MoreI visit this temple every year since Godess Banashankari is our family deity. When compared to the crowd this place attracts the progress here has been very very slow. Parking facility has been made but not enough for peak seasons. Attempts to control crowds especially during annual jatra, like queue pathways are being made in recent years. There is daily prasadam lunch to all visitors in a separate complex. People can also opt for the local jowar roti & palle along with gadige mosaru from villagers selling them. Shops (especially those selling banglesthat are there during the annual Jatra can be visited upto one or one and a half months after the Jatra. Unfortunately the least importance is given to cleaniness to area surrounding the main temple. A distinct difference when compared to malnad & south Canara temple premises.
MoreBanashankari Temple is located at Cholachagudda.Bagalakot Dist, Badami town Dedicated to Banashankari Devi, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, its one of the famous temples in the district. The original temple was built in 8th century, believed to be by Rashtrakutas, but the present structure traces its origin in the 17th century. This temple represents a combination of Dravidian & Nagara temple architecture. Haridra Tirtha, a large temple pond with a tall lamp tower built on a three story structure is situated opposite to the entrance of the temple and its a delight to watch. The entire pond is surrounded by a corridor built with stone. The Goddess can be seen seated on a growling lion and crushing a demon with her foot. The idol is carved out of a black stone. The Goddess Banashankari is depicted here with eight arms sitting on a roaring lion. The temple features three large lamp polls in the main compound. These lamp polls are lit during special occasions and important festivals. The annual festival held in Jan/Feb is a major attraction. During the festival, a procession is help around the village with deity riding on chariot
MoreThe Temple is very good and the Devi gives us a divine feelingThe temple comittee is not that good.. they ask a lot of money and for poojas they take money and give prasadam as 1 coconut.
MoreMother God Temple having beautiful site.
Going for 1 day trip would be great to visit this place youll certainly like it.
Went there on day of Diwali. Nice atmosphere and we missed any crowd. Deepotsav was amazing. No rush for darshan of Devi or Palkhi.
MoreMust visit place, dont take any food items since lot many monkeys are there and it is very near to main road,so have your breakfast or lunch done before going.Ticket price is 25 per person.
MoreVisited Ma devi temple during November.Feel very blessed after taking Darshan. During normal time, Darshan time would be 10 mins. This is ideal month as there is no much heat and you can roam around nearby area as Badami caves which is 5 km from temple.Car parking is available with pay and park.If you are planning to visit this place from Hampi I would suggest to follow the Google map as roads are zigzag and some times confuse you as there is no directions are available on the road. Also road from Hampi to Badami is not in great form and lots of pot holes, better to plan from morning as evening drive would be challenging and will take more time.
MoreGreat Holy place & nearby caves
It is very nice temple. We went on Friday. We took around an hour for darshan.
Unlike amy other temples, the devotees are let inside the Garbha Gudi/Garbha Griha (Sanctum Sanctorumvery close to murthy/idol. A divine place surrounded by few Chalukyan era ruins.
MoreWe visited the temple on a Tuesday afternoon by 3:30pm. There were hardly a few people for the darshan of Amma. We had a very peaceful and heart satisfying darshan and spent some time in the temple campus. We were blessed to have this Darshana and thank the universe for offering the same. The temple was clean and well maintained.Wishing every one prosperity and good darshan of the amma for everyones wellbeing.Namaskars to you all.
MorePlease look for arati timing or else you will be stuck on long queue,Temple location is around the village, food was amazing. Some authentic food by local with good quality but no hygiene maintainPlease ask for pricing before you buy flowers or other offering to God, they will fool you.Do not recommend in the evening try to take darshan in day time.
MoreA beautiful ancient temple just short of Badami. There is also a place to stay next to the temple.Very positive aura in the temple.
MoreReally Worth to have Darshan here. Quite and nice Place

MoreGood place to visit, the godess Banashankari temple is very beautiful
Wonderful place. Peaceful temple. Its around 5km away from Badami busstop. You get local auto. The temple offers good food during the afternoon. Very powerful temple and she is shakambhari meaning their is no Prani Bhali to her. There is a kalyani as well which is really clean and looks good. If you are around the Badami locality add this to your visit list and seek her holiness blessings.
MoreA historical temple of goddess banashankari. This is a popular temple and attracts many devotees. Usually there will be some queue, but if you book for some offering by paying at the counter, most part of the queue can be skipped.Parking available. Also pooja items available in the nearby street. The lamp posts inside the temple are unique.
MoreVery powerful dirty of Chola period.

MoreThe Mother Goddess ( A forest dwelling deity here has been in worship since time immemorial and the first temple is. Elieved to have been built around 7th or 8th Century . In later times ,many renovations ,additions and rebuilding have taken place , so wecan see many kinds of influences like Vijayanagara , Maratha etc in the buildings around .Darshan is very organised and everyone can get a peaceful view of the Devi , without pushing-pulling .The huge tank was almost full ( after rains, but unfortnately , littered with plastic garbage . Wish pilgrims have more sense of responsibility .

Beautiful place, not maintained though.5km from Badami, easily accessible
Great place of worship , very well maintained temple premises, enjoyed my time there
MoreLuckily for me, the temple was not crowded. Heard from local folks that its too crowded on Mondays and Tuesdays with devotees thronging from even Maharastra and AP. Temple is not a huge complex and if it would take some time, then probably it would be waiting in long queues.

Banashankari temple, is located at Cholachagudda near Badami, Karnataka. It is one amongst the most famous Hindu shrines in the state.Several stories and beliefs revolve around the temple regarding its construction, history, and culture. However, the most exciting fact about this temple is that the people worship Rahukala which is considered inauspicious as per Hindu culture. The devotees pray to Rahukala to let go of all the miseries, poverty and inauspiciousness from their life. The Banashankari temple has a past of harmony, being constructed and renovated in the Dravidian and Nagara architectural styles. It has maintained its tradition of unity in the religious cum cultural festival of Banashankari Jatre every January, where people from Karnataka and adjacent states pour in to show their devotion and also witness in the cultural programmes and the fair. The Haridra Tirtha is a pond in the temple complex with a tall lamp over a three-story structure and this is an architectural marvel.
