Low-key counter-service kitchen in a strip mall offering classic vegetarian Indian cuisine.
We are so lucky to have so many incredible Indian restaurants popping up in Louisville. Enter Shreeji, one of my favorite all vegetarian street food restaurants. In India, street food is typically called "chaat". You would get it from a street vendor and eat it while walking down the street. They are typically covered in chutneys and are some of the most delicious Indian items you can have. Crispy, sweet, spicy, tangy, and crunchy. Its all the flavors in one. Thats why I love Shreeji. I can get all the street food goodness at once. My favorite is samosa chaat which is a samosa covered in chutneys: green(cilantro & mint, spicyred (tamarind & sweet), yogurt, and topped with onions and sev (fried chickpeas chips). I have also loved getting pani poori here. Is one of my favorite things to have, but annoying to make yourself. The poori are fried puffed dough, which are easy to pop. You fill them with potatoes, chickpeas, onions and tomatoes. You drizzle chutneys on them and then down the filled poori in pani (spiced mint & tamarind water). Its truly a street delicacy that tastes better when you dont have to put your own work into it. I come here for the chaat, so I cant speak to the entrees, but I can tell you its authentic.
Delicious Indian street food. Stick with Bombay/Gujarati street food. Dosas are just OK.
We are heading back home to Chicago, wanted to try some Indian food so we stoped by there. We had a huge catering order so their team was super busy but the owner of the restaurant did not turn us off. Super tasty food and very nice hospitality. Highly recommend Shreeji Louisville
I went today Oct15, visiting from out and a senior citizen. I checked on internet their hours before driving there. No one was at the counter and when attendant came out, he said we are closed. After a minute, he was serving food. I asked if I can buy readymade items, he refused to do that. Not a single time he was sorry or accommodating. I would strongly recommend not going to this place for good service and based on other reviews for quality food.
The best Masala Dosa in Louisville! Some constructive criticism would be as follows:1. The filling inside the Dosa lacked taste, apart from that the Dosa was awesome, it was crunchy and tasted atypical.2. The Sambar served with the Dosa was a bit thick in comparison to regular sambar.
This restaurant is not clean, the food isn’t great and the owners are rude.Tables were dirty and no one from the staff cared to clean them before the next set of customers would take them. Some of the food we ordered had gone bad, the dishes with yogurt tasted weird and when we asked the staff about it, they instead argued with us and told us it was all fine. Not going back again and would not recommend to anyone.
Indian Vegetarian Hotel. Being a Vegetarian I have tasted Masal Dosa, Pav Bhaji & Mango Lassi. Taste of the foods are Excellent. Very neat & clean. Satisfied with what I have eaten in it.
I love this Indian Street food restaurant so much. I especially like the “Rose Lassi.” Highly recommend ❤️
The food that this restaurant has is very good. Everyone is very nice, the restaurant itself is very clean. I just want to thank them for the amazing food they made for me.
I ordered Baahubali dosa. I must see it looked incredible, the taste was super good. I definitely recommend to everyone to go to this restaurant, it is a very clean place.
The food was amazing! The people were very nice. I do wish for all of them to keep up the good work.
Never Going back, Place is VERY dirty. Flies everywhere bugging. The floor is sticky, tables are dirty, and employees are dirty and covered in crumbles. The square terminal is almost black, even though it was originally white. Food is of extremely low quality, yet, very pricy. So sad, that it’s almost impossible to find good food. Sweets are NOT sweet. Food tastes stale and diluted and Cold Whoever serve the food cloth was smelly and dirty
Fell sick after eating their food. Unhygienic place, sticky tables or everything you touch. Even the white cashier register had turned black with dirt in there.Flies around, am sure they mopped their floor before covid. This was my first visit and they made sure to make it last. 🤮🤮🤮
Worst restaurant and the food too , I ordered dosa n fried rice it’s completely oily and the dosa is so hard n milk shakes never expected it’s salty 😳 I requested chef regarding food but they responded with attitude and the maintenance 0%

Why, why would you run down your place like this? And which way are state authorities looking?
EVERYTHING I’ve ever ordered from this menu has satisfied. It keeps me coming back. Hope this place stays around.
The best Indian food I ever had .. hospitality is very awesome and price is very reasonable. I have been to lots of places but this is the best place I have ever been .
Superfast service once you order. We tried Kesar Pista Lassi, Dabeli, Vegetable Manchurian Hakka Noodles, and Rava Dosa. Their Dabeli was the best and all others werent too great but werent too bad as well. Id not recommend ordering Indo-Chinese here..Rava Dosa was thick and not at all crispy. Recommend trying Dabeli and may be other chat items.
Best traditional indian food i have had so far in last 4 years!Perfect soul food for vegetarians 👌
The food was terrible i ordered dosa and idli.. 1st idli was extremely dry and not soft and then the dosa was terrible in taste. I would not even rate this restaurant 1star.I was traveling to this city for the first time and it was terrible experience.Would never recommend to anyone.
They have a large selection of "street food," from various parts of India and some Chinese fair. We ordered the Gujarati Thali. It was ready in about 10 minutes. It consists of various types of food from the Gujarat area on a round plater. The food was hot and had good flavor. It also came with a cup of a savory yogurt drink. I also had the mango lassi (yogurt & mango drink). It was a bit too salty and the $5 price is somewhat high. The place could also be cleaner. There was a fly buzzing around our table. Perhaps that is part of the "street food" experience 🤔
Loved the food. We were visiting Louisville and wanted to eat some good Indian food. Decided to visit this place based on the reviews and it sure didn’t disappoint. We ordered vada pav, dosa, sev dahi puri, chole bature, kachi dabeli. Everything was tasty except the dabeli. It had a very strong masala taste. Chai was also very good. We loved the food so much we got a take out again when we were leaving the city. Will definitely recommend if you are craving Indian street food. It can be really busy in the evenings so if you want to sit and eat I’ll recommend either going early or later. We had to wait for a long time to get a table.
I wish more Indian restaurants served a platter like this. The food was so good and fulfilling, the platter comes with a free chaas (spiced buttermilk). This is a vegetarian restaurant so Im not sure why people are giving it less stars just because they dont serve chicken lol.
I tried about half the menu and loved every bite. They have delicious vegan items and asked me what level of spice I prefer. They also timed the start of my order very well. If you like dining in, they have cool decorations and themed music. When I asked about some of the things I was trying for the first time, they even showed me how to spell and where to find the ingredients. I highly recommend this place. If I lived closer I would be here every week.
We ordered few different varieties of food items (Chinese, chat and snacksaround 5 to 6 times but only thing which we liked is cut mirchi rest all we trashed and quality of food is going down day by day please make sure to improve your food quality and service as you know honest restaurant is closed people will flow into Shreeji for snacks.Note: Please stop using raw garlic on all the items if spicy is requested.
First time food is delicious, I didn’t know what to order, and the employees and owners were really nice. I recommend
One of the best places in Louisville, KY for some authentic Indian Chaat/Street food. If you like vegan or vegetarian food this place wont disappoint you. We drove from Evansville to shop in Louisville and visited this place later in afternoon for quick lunch. The things your cant go wrong will be their Dahi puri (if you like yogurt), Dosa and milkshakes/floodas. The service is prompt, adjust your spicy tolerance when you order and nice ambience. Just one little complaint to play those Indian music on lower volume its nice to place in background while you enjoy your food with conversation with others, but music seem to be a problem especially if youre sitting right under where television is.
Utter authenticity here, in a small strip mall restaurant. This is southern Indian vegetarian food at its best. This is simple food, packed with punch, flavor and love. If you have questions ask the really helpful folks behind the counter, they will guide you. But, also, take risks and order items you havent tried before. You cannot go wrong.
Shreeji vegetarian Indian food is the perfect place for you!! If you are looking for well prepared truly authentic Indian food with all of the herbs & spices then This is your spot. I had the spicy veggie rice. And when I say spicy I really mean spicy! I enjoyed my meal and so will you. For authentic Indian food head down to Shreeji. I give it 4 crowns only because they dont serve chicken.👑👑👑👑
The food was extremely awesome and very tasty…excellent staff and great service…everyone must try Gujarathi & Punjabi Thalia’s ,pav bhaji, Dabeli, vadapav, Bahubali dosa and live pani puri…
Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations! If you want a dish that will please everyone in the family, I would recommend the masala dosa. The most eclectic eaters and the pickiest eaters all liked it.
Love LOVE Shreeji and each and every employee that is there! Warm, loving, beautiful people who make dishes packed with flavors that make you happy inside. I remember when I walked in during Ramadan to pick up food to break my fast and was wished a ‘happy Ramadan” by one of the gentleman there. they always remember me and treat me like family. Great place. Such a fantastic selection, you can’t go wrong here:
Simply awesome!! I have tried different Indian restaurants in Indiana as well Kentucky but wasn’t able to find the taste I was looking for until I tried Shreeji. Must visit place if you are fan of Indian street food taste. The staff always take care of your orders and give suggestions when necessary to choose better option to eat.
Absolutely fantastic! 10/10 would recommend to all! Many carnivores/omnivores may pause at vegetarian food, but I loved every delicious bite. Great portion sizes, great value, excellent service, and very filling, too!
This establishment is setup as an indoor, outdoor street food vending stall. There is even a place where customers can stand around a stall and eat while the cook is preparing food right in front of them. They grab the food as soon as he makes it. Now that is FRESH. However, what I loved about this place us that it is vegetarian. And the menu is loaded with lovely Indian cuisine. My meal was awesome. We got the sampler and a few specialty dishes. I dont know if we just made good choices or if everything is just that good. We will be returning soon.
I ordered dahi puri, vada pav, dabeli, pav bhaji, maysore masala dosa, bombay masala sandwhich and panner chili noodles. The taste of the good was great, panner chili noodles could have been better but overall the taste was great. I would high recommend the restaurant for chaat.
Very disappointing. Appearance was bad and taste was even worse. Look at images what i ordered and what i received :(Also was told after 8:30 i can not sit inside anymore.
Food was okay; I ordered Gobi Manchurian, looks like it was refurbished. Dosa was my fav (too much butter - request for less butter while ordering). Liked the ambiance.
Found a little gem today. Just had an hour for lunch and thought I would check out Shreeji for their Indian street food.I got recommended this and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious, Ill be back.
Tasty food. Clean facility. Able to dine in and social distance. Staff, is marginally friendly, but does NOT speak clear fluent English so it’s best to have some idea of what Indian food is and you would like to eat.
I loooved my meal today. I ordered Gujarati Thali and Samosas. I have always wondered what would come on one of these platters (Gujarati Thali). It was fun to order it and discover the flavors and textures! This was my first time ordering here and I will be back!! Indian food fills my soul ☺️ I called back to ask what was in my dish today, and she was very kind to take the time to let me know. Mine came with rice, roti, a chickpea curry (savory), kari (this was my fav thing, it was like a soup, and the spices used had me Mmming whole time), mixed sabji (had a wonderful array of flavors with a somewhat light fish taste too although it’s vegetarian), pakoda (a fritter), and one ladhu (a sweet). Came with 3-4 chutneys. She told me everyday Gujarati is slightly different, which is cool. I have been obsessed with samosas for over a decade and theirs is amazing! Prob the best samosa I’ve tasted thus far 🤯 I can only imagine what their samosa chaat taste like!!! Their samosas are big, have a lot of flavor and spice and a hint of sweetness 👌🏽I ordered this for myself but when I got home I told my partner to come sit and eat with me and it filled us both up and we have a little leftover. All for under $18. 💙
Worst samosa I ever ate in my life. I guess they dont check the quality before they serve. Even tried rice was tasteless.Appetizers are served after main course. This restaurant needs to learn a lot about food and hospitality industry.
Vegetarian restaurant which offers good variety of food options. Paani puri and samosa chat were was amazing. One thing surprised me is that they even give to go for thali which is something I rarely see any Indian restaurants offering. I did order Shreeji special thali which came with both puri and rice but it was just average. Curries did not taste good and everything tasted same. The laddu and dokla were dry.
Had Vada Pav, samosa chaat and Shezwan Fried rice here. Loved Vada pav, samosa chaat was okish. Didnt like the fried rice much. Heard that dosas are really good here too. Id recommend to have either chat items or dosa when youre here. A good Indian street fast food place in Louisville.
Very amazing spot! The food was flavorful and the prices were super affordable. The one thing I wish would be that they would ask you how spicy you want your food. I didn’t know I could adjust the scale until we received our receipts and saw the “spice level” that was predetermined for us. Still really good food, but I will be sure to tell them my spice level next time so I can get the amount I want. We also got there right before a huge crowd did, so we got lucky in terms of service times!
Beyond 5 stars. The best place to have indian snacks. The staff is very polite and the quality of food is optimum. I have been going there for almost a year now and I have never been disappointed with their food or quick service. I literally feel like home.Ps- I highly recommend this place for everyone .
The food at this place is amazing and cheap. You can actually order multiple dishes under 15 bucks. I definitely recommend this place if you happen to be in the area!
My new favorite restaurant. Delicious vegetarian food. It gets better every time I go.
Good place to have some variety food. Good selection, good price and big enough portion of food for the price. Went there around 7pm on Friday. They are quite a busy but did not have to wait too long. If you call Olive Garden same time & Same day - you have to wait there for at least 90minutes before you gets table. 10mins wait and you are at order desk. Not bad. Order taker is well informed and gives advice depends on your choice. She was not in hurry, not trying avoid your questions or concerns (which adds up waiting time for fellow customers, so I did not mind waiting). Got the food in next 10 minutes. Got the food (in Pictureswith great taste and good size portion. With less then $30 family of 4 are well fed. If I go to Olive Garden or any Indian Restaurant, it would have cost me $50+. So it is good for your pocket and family enjoy variety of Indian Food. Over all great place, great food and great people with best service. Owner and his wife asked us about quality of food or we have any concerns. Good attitude towards customer. Thanks for long awaited Indian street food place. One of the best in Louisville. Will visit again soon.
Great food and service! I asked what I could get on the menu that would be vegan and he said he could make most items vegan. He suggested the Khasta Kachori and it was amazing! I also got the dosa masala which was fresh and tasty. Delicious meal and wonderful, attentive service.
