A divine experience. Visited during the auspicious Dussera festival time. Busy streets lead to this ancient temple. So many Shiva lingams. Especially the 525 lingers in a maze formation was different experience. The river Bank at the side of the temple reminded of the Manikarnika ghat of Varanasi. A must visit place for any one who comes to Katmandu.

Pashupatinath Mandir, Kathmandu, NepalIt is a beautiful temple and we are blessed to be able to testify and thus freely wander. However, advise people not to benefit from this privilege. It is rare for this place of worship to be open to visitors. Please read proper behavior before you enter. Teej & Funeral what a combination, so sad & depressing for funeral goers, but what a sight to behold, so many burning pyres, crying faces, heart aching scenes, smell of the dead bodies, just thinking what is this life but as someone said the SHOW MUST GO ON. Life we learn is too late in the living. Live everyday, thank everyday be happy everyday.

।।ॐ नमः शिवाय।।I visited at 7 am on a Saturday during the holy month of Shravan. I was lucky, there was a short line and I got darshan within 15 minutes. Everyone is patient and there is no jostling or pushing. This is one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, and possibly the most famous. Beautiful place, has to be the first place to visit when in Kathmandu. Very serene and calm place.

Though Gods place is always divine and this is one of the most famous Shiva temples. So suggestions to make ur trip 5 star. Please follow these. There are too many tours who would misguide you, so dont listen to them. Starting from parking walk till gate, on the way you can purchase flowers incase you want to do puja. Just before thr entrance left lane has services like locker, shoe deposit services, etc. Inside if you dont to get into que and give puja, there is option to watch god from outside line. Its very slippery inside due to water all over so please walk carefully.

Pashupatinath Temple is one of the biggest and most sacred Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world. When I went there I felt so calm and relaxed. People who work there always keep the place clean and hygienic. Everyone can go there. If you want to go inside the temple. There is a place right near the gate of the temple where you can open your shoes and give them to them in a jute bag to keep your shoes safe and it costs no money. The line to worship the god of the temple properly is always long, especially on Mondays but you can go near the temple without joining the line. And I request you guys to keep the temple clean even though there are people working on the cleanliness of the temple. Heres something I guess youd like to know about the temple.Pashupatinath Temples existence dates back to 400 A.D. With its astonishing architectural beauty, the temple stands as a symbol of faith, religion, culture and tradition. The beautiful richly - ornamented pagoda-styled temple house the sacred linga or halilic symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to this temple all around the year to pay respect to Lord Shiva. Pashupatinath temple is also known as "The temple of Living Beings".The temple is famous for its awe-inspiring and astounding pagoda architecture. The two-level roofs of the temple are embellished with gold and the four main doors are silver. The western door has a statue of a large bull ornamented in gold, Nandi. This black stone idol, about 6 feet in height and circumference adds to the beauty and charisma of the temple. Believers in Pashupatinath. mainly Hindus are allowed to enter the temple premised. Non - Hindu visitors are allowed to have a look at the temple on the opposite bank of the Bagmati river.Pashupati area is regarded as one of the most important pilgrimages by the followers of Hinduism. Thousands of devotees from within and the outside the country come to pay home age to Pashupatinath every day. And on special occasions like Ekadasi. Sankranti, Mahashivaratri, Teej, Raksa Bandhan, Grahan (Eclipse) Poonrinma (Full Moon day) the whole atmosphere turns festive and mirthful as people congregate here in a far greater number.During the Shivaratri festival, Pashupatinath temple glows with lights of ghee lamps glows throughout the night and the temple remains open all night. Thousands of devotees take ritual baths in the Bagmati river on the day of the festival and observe sages from different parts of Nepal and India come here on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

Lord Shiva here worships as Pashupatinath (Lord of all living creatures). Main Sanctum sanctorum houses An one meter high linga with (Panchmukh5 faces namely - Sadyojata, Tatpurusha, Aghora, Vamadeva & Ishana representing the 5 primary elements- air, earth, ether, fire & water. It was reconstructed in the 5th CCE by Licchavi King Prachanda Dev. its present form was constructed by King Bhupalendra Malla in 1697 AD. (Tradition says it was constructed by Pashupreksha of the Somadeva Dynasty in the 3rd century BC.)Main temple is 23.6m tall, 2- tiered pagoda style. The roofs are made of copper & are gilded with gold, while the main doors are coated with silver. The magisterial temple houses a gold pinnacle ( Gajur& 2 Garbhagriha. While the inner garbhagriha is home to the idol of Lord Shiva, the outer area is an open space that resembles a corridor. Legend of temple : Once Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati once transformed themselves into antelopes & visited the forest Mrigasthali near the present pashupati temple. Enamored with the beauty of the place, Lord Shiva decided to stay back as a deer. The other deities soon came to know of his mischief & pestered him to resume his divine form by gripping one of his horns, which broke in the process. This broken horn used to be worshiped as a Shivalinga but was buried & lost after a few years. Several centuries later, a herdsman found one of his cows showering milk on the site. Astonished, he dug deep into the site only to find this pashupati Shivalinga. Beliefs: aIt is believed that those who die(crematedhere will reincarnate as human beings & all the misconducts of their previous lives are forgiven. bIt is said that those who worship linga here would not be reborn as an animal. cShiva Purana mentions this Shivalinga as the bestower of all wishes. Significance: aLord Pashupatinath is said to be the guardian deity of Nepal. bIt is believed that the visit of 12 Jyotirling is complete only after the visit of Pashupatinath. cIt is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Festival: Mahashivratri & Teej. Entry :- Only Hindus are allowed inside the main temple complex.

The exact date of Pashupatinath’s construction is unknown. Despite this fact, the Pashupatinath is considered the oldest Hindu temple of Kathmandu. The earliest evidence of the temple’s existence dates back to 400 A.D. The current main temple of Pashupatinath complex was built in the end of the 17th century to replace the previous one, destroyed by termites.Countless smaller temples were constructed around the main temple on both banks of Bagmati River during the last few centuries. There are numerous legends, connected with the construction of the temple. The most famous one claims, that the temple was built on the site where Shiva lost one of his antlers, while he was in the guise of a deer. He and his wife arrived to the bank of Bagmati and amazed by the beauty of the site decided to change themselves into deers and walk in the surrounding forests. After a while gods and humans decided to return them to their duties, but Shiva rejected to return and they had to use force. In the fight Shiva lost one of his antlers, which later became the first lingam worshipped by Hinduists in Pashupatinath. Later this relic was lost, and according to another legend, found again by a herdsman, whose cow showed the location of lingam by irrigating the place it was buried with her milk.Pashupatinah is a place where century-old Hindu rituals are practiced in their astonishing initial form, giving a chance to the visitors to feel the unique spirit of Hindu traditions of life, death and reincarnation.

It is a Hindu temple complex classified as world heritage site in kathmandu, very close to airport. The complex has many temples, ashram and a cremation ground on banks of the river. The main diety is shiva, and hence a huge golden Nandi can be seen sitting outside the temple. Though it is Hindu temple, the architecture of temple is in style of pagoda. The temple has 4 entrances, each of them having a long line. Worth visiting for the architecture and for holiness associated with the place. Surrounding the main temple are many other smaller temples. The complex has many pundits offering unsolicited religious services and expect dakshina in return.

I am not wrong if I call this the ultimate temple for the followers of Hinduism in Nepal. They believe if someone does at this temple, they will be Re-born as humans among us.It is considered as a blessing to be cremated by the side of the river (the Fires you see are creations). The remainings and ash are put into the river for blessing. The close relatives, the sons of the person who is dead shaves their heads off

Crowded in holiday and mismanaged management. Poor cleanliness. The only good thing is shoes management system and locker facility available. Dont keep your shoes in those flower sellers as there is free cost shoes keeping place in pashupatinath. Parking charge you around Rs. 15 for bikes and scooters but no guarantee of safety of vehicles. The temple itself is good and only entry of Hindu is available. NO PHOTO inside the temple but people take it but dont do it you will be in trouble. Hope Shiva ji will bless you all. Take care and be healthy.

A beautiful temple with old tradition attached to the very core of the temple. There are lot of small temples in the vicinity of the temple. It is situated beside the Bagamati river. In fact the river flows through the temple. The exact date of the erection of the temple is uncertain. There is huge stairs that needs to be climbed in order to gain access to the upper portion of the temple. There is an exit to the main road from the upper portion of the temple.Note: I myself was a tourist from Bangladesh. Suggestion for other tourist like me: Bargain with the taxi driver as much as possible. They will charge higher fare the moment they will get to know you are a foreigner. If a taxi driver demands 1500 Nepali rupee, start your bargain from 400 Nepali rupee.
