19 N Park Square, Marietta, GA 30060, United States, Marietta
Elevated tavern fare served in a dark-wood pub, with a more formal, candlelit dining room upstairs.
Food is great. Server was amazing. The place was really hot though. Granted it was 95 degrees out and there were a lot of people coming in and out I imagine it is hard to cool.
Food is okay but overpriced. Workers seem unhappy. Whoever is bartending is also managing and doing a really horrible job at both. Owners should consider new menu options and ways to bring in younger clientele. Sadly, I feel this business is dying a slow death.
Such a disappointing experience. It was my sisters wedding and we had the dinner there. It was so hot upstairs we almost roasted. It took an hour to get our drinks. The piano player was very rude and disrespectful to our entire wedding party. It is not kid friendly and we have a very well behaved 4 year old. My husband and I ended up leaving because we needed to eat-he’s diabetic and the food was not in any kind of rush.We found a cozy, friendly, yummy and air conditioned restaurant and enjoyed a lovely dinner.
I came here on a Saturday afternoon to come to an art festival with my aunt. We were very hungry so we decided to stop in and try something new. We got in and they put us in a small box with 3 tables and weird limonium plastic table cloths. My aunt ordered a crab and corn chowder and when she got it it smelt of carnation milk and it had the consistency of droopy yogurt a little thicker than a soup. It was very tasteless and it was terrible. It was made with imitation crab, false advertisement first of all. That was the first sign. But for our entrees she got a fish sandwich that actually wasn’t too bad but on the side they gave her a cheap slab of iceberg lettuce. I got the Shillings burger. First, the steak fries were not good they were hollow and they were burnt to the crisp. Not very good at all. And the service was not great either our server took a very long time to get back to us. It was our first time here and it will most definitely be our last.
Server pleasant, but waited 15 minutes for drinks, another 15 minutes for appetizers. They were okay. But couldnt eat main course- Campbell tomato soup poured over chicken medallions that was supposed to be filled with prosciutto and red peppers fried crispy, but only one medallion had any stuffing. They didnt charge, but never again.
This is what the Caribbean Sandwich looks like. Limp, washed out lettuce, pineapples from a jumbo can and reheated-from-frozen steak fries. We’re here in the middle of Saturday afternoon and the place is empty.Waiter came back mid-service smelling of cigarettes and we were asked for cash at checkout because ‘the credit card machine is playing up’I’ll be surprised if the place isn’t under new management pretty soon.
We came in with 4 adults and 2 children. Hostess is rude! Left us standing while they tried to figure out a table outside, and Im talking at least 10 minutes! Another guy at a table literally spoke up and told them we were talking about leaving before they tried (and horribly failedat putting 2 tables together. Waitress was fine and the food was just okay for these prices. This would be our second bad visit this year and we will not be back.
Service was great. Food is definitely high priced for the quality and flavor that you receive. I had the dill salmon and it was $21.00 but wasnt anything to write home about. My wife said the same about the filet mignon. The brie appetizer was incredible with the blackberry jam. I guess its okay to try once but well move on to other places when were on the square because were not there very often.
I tried the seafood bisque and could barely eat it - the texture was disturbing and the only flavor I could taste was salt. Thats the only thing Ive eaten here and it was enough to make me never want to order food again. HOWEVER, it is a chill place to have some drinks with friends.
We ate outside and had a beautiful evening checking out the activity on the square.Calamari for starters - good.Gumbo for seconds - good (Bread with the gumbo is the star). The shrimp and scallops - really good. Our waiter (Johnwas top notch. We’ll be back for sure.
The atmosphere was great. The service was absolutely wonderful, however the food was blah. I ordered the Chicken Philly and pasta salad. The chicken was bland chunks of meat, not shredded like it should be. It had a slice of provolone just melted on top. It literally had zero flavor. The pasta salad had macaroni noodles which I found odd. It was meh, had some flavor, not great, but not bad. All in all, I have lived here all my life and this was my first experience and I am disappointed. 😔
A cute quaint restaurant reminds me of a standstill in time. The food was good- my bacon was over cooked- a little to crispy for me. Well priced food. Nice location - we sat in a window seat.
Very good restaurant. I ordered a quick bite to eat before a show and although the food was good, there wasn’t quite enough for the coveted 5th star yet. Service was fair and overall, I liked the place as a solid option while I’m in Marietta Square for events.
I ordered 12 wings and onion rings for appetizers then my sons put in there orders we got i drinks then about 20 mins later the server came to the table and said there was something going wrong in the kitchen but food would be coming soon. When the food came it was cold and nasty. I wont be back Terrible.
Most Amazing meal I have had in a long time. I thought my taste buds were gone until I ordered the pork loin. The sauce was incredible. Atmosphere was intimate. A must to try.
A true neighborhood upscale bar and restaurant. Very welcome to new customers and out of town visitors. You will always receive a smile from the staff and they will make every effort to accommodate your needs. A very well thought-out menu with excellent culinary skills from the kitchen. Come on out and make some new friends at Shillings!
Nice little spot. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Food was awesome. The only thing that I didnt like was the table size and prices were a little high. HOWEVER the quality of the food is extremely high and. a lot of care was put into it which I love! My date loved her food and the music and drinks were perfect.Besides the few things I mentioned and a few others I didnt I will be back here in the future! If the staff or owners read this please keep doing what you do!!!
Decent bar, the bartender made perfect drinks and was very friendly.
The food was okay. The service was rather slow. I really expected more from the high price of the food. Considering its mainly a bar, lacking a cocktail menu is a huge negative. They say theyll make whatever you want, but I want options, not to pull out my phone and guess what they can make well.
Server needs to find a new job.We are sorry shes having a bad day.But for a family of 6 and she putting on a 20% tip.I found it very insultingThe food came out slow she had no excuses for the kitchen they had five tables in the whole restaurant.Im very unsatisfied customer or should I say family.
This place is one of the oldest restaurants in Marietta square, but I was not overly impressed. The restaurant has a more timely feel to it, and the bar is pretty impressive. The inside has different areas for dining with some available upstairs. Other than that, the restaurant is kind of bland and dimly lit. The food was not anything to write home about. I was not disappointed in what I got, it just was typical food you would expect from a restaurant like that. I enjoyed my New England clam chowder, but the grilled chicken sandwich was just that. The prices are alright if you go at lunch, but get a little high around dinner time. Not my first choice for a meal in the square, but an interesting piece of history.
Food was fine. Stopped by during Chalktober, so I was prepared for a long wait and service. I stood next to my friend for about 30 minutes waiting for someone else to vacate a seat at the bar, never complained. I have worked in service before so I am very empathetic to the struggle. However, what truly bothered me was the man manning the bar. He was an older man, and when he asked us if we had ordered already we didnt hear him clearly so we gave him our order, he repeated it louder and with an attitude, which I shrugged off due to the stress of being so busy. When he did take our orders and was inputting them into the system, I asked if I could also have a beer. He said something inaudible and I thought he asked what kind, I said a stella and he said something which sounded like him saying they were out of stella, so I said to just do a water then, as I didnt want to slow them down.We waited a long time for our food which was to be expected, and overall it was decent. However, when we gave him the card to pay for our check he condescendingly said "Did you REALLY think I would serve you a beer?" Confused, we asked him what he meant and he made some comment about my friend and I not being old enough to drink, (Im 25 and shes 26I told him we were both over 21 and he said we shouldve shown him an ID then when he asked but we NEVER HEARD HIM ASK. It was loud in there and he was talking while inputting the order so I never heard him. Regardless, his rude treatment and attitude are enough for me to never recommend this place. I hope he REALLY doesnt think he can make tips while being so rude. (though we still tipped, because its not the chefs and restaurants fault he acted like a butt)
I’ve read through many if the other reviews and have no idea how anyone would rate as a 5 star. The food is just OK and is nothing special. Most concerning was the cleanliness of the restaurant... the floors, tables and ‘uniforms’ of the employees - all dirty/dusty with little upkeep. No need to go back again with so many other great choices in the local area.
It was the icing on a great day out with my aunt to stop here after browsing the neighboring shops. I would say that I wish the menu was a little bigger but the food was fantastic! Also our server was nice and attentive even as we sat on the patio. Great serving sizes, staff, and atmosphere!
Love this place, love the atmosphere, love the old fashioned music they play, love the food, cant find old places with this much character anymore, its like getting to still have a thing of the past. I do wish the owners took a little more pride in keeping it clean and maintained because it is such a gem. I love the way they have it decorated. Service is wonderful. Food is very good.
This restaurant is a staple for the Square in Marietta. Sit outside and watch all the goings on around, and there is always something. Concerts, a farmers market, or an arts and crafts event, the Square is a very unique and refreshing oasis for the surrounding suburban (hellishsprawl. Shillings is very consistent with its quality of food and service. Brunch is reasonably priced and fresh! The thoughtful fruit that is served with every brunch meal with can be a great measuring stick for a place like this. Always a pleasure!
I have seen this restaurant many times walking around Marietta Square but this was my first time actually eating there. Family and in laws stopped in for brunch and we all enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My Crab Benedict was flavorful and actually prepared correctly(proper poached eggs are hard to come by it seemsand while it didnt come with the fruit the menu called for(they were outit didnt detract from the meal.If I had to be super picky I would gripe on the lack of a kids menu as our son was with us, but tbh thats not a huge deal.I do plan on going again, they have this burger called the hangover burger I want to try.
Went on a whim for lunch and was surprised how empty it was despite its prime location. We were promptly greeted by a very friendly lady who was also our server. While I had to stretch to find a Vegitarian meal it was accomplished and very tasty. Staff was friendly and the food was priced surprisingly reasonable. Old building helped with the cozy but uncramped atmosphere.
I wanted to thank Calvin and our server (I cant remember her name, Im so sorry!!!!and all the staff at Shillings for their help on Saturday, July 21st. We originally decided to reserve them for our wedding reception venue. They were so patient with our seemingly endless questions. But the real magic happened the day of the wedding. We, unfortunately, got rained out of our original ceremony location and had to make a very last minute change to host our ceremony as well as our reception at Shillings. They were so helpful with everything and never made us feel like we were putting too much on them. If it wasnt for their kindness and amazing hospitality, our wedding would have been a bust. Everything was perfect from the tables, to the drinks, to the timing of the food coming out, and to the actual food itself! My husband said he never had a more tender sirloin! All in all, Shillings made it possible to have an amazing wedding and I am so very thankful for their whole team.
This was my very 1st time here at Shillings. I had stopped and had dinner in between shows at the Earl Theater. My waiter was soooo welcoming & the hostess made sure to let me know about the history here! I had the best ruben I have ever tasted. I recommend coming here & enjoying the food & atmosphere.
We visit periodically and always get great service. Both the lunch and dinner menus have a variety of food choices and we have never been disappointed with anything that weve ordered. The staff can also accommodate large party reservations on reasonable short notice.
Used to eat there many years ago and it was always quite good. Last night, however, will have been my final visit. I ordered a rib eye, and my date ordered lamb lollipops. One of her lollipops was only cooked on one side. She didnt want to send it back. My steak had 2 lumps on top, which looked like butter. It was butter, and ice cold. My steak was cold also. I did send it back and it was acceptable upon return, but not worth the cost or theinconvenience. And our server didnt exactly show concern. We dine out to relax and enjoy a good meal. This experience had neither. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to vent.
Had breakfast at 2 pm. Really was good food, well served. I think it would be good for a quiet evening dinner with friends so thats what Ill try next. Oh, and the orange juice? It really is freshly squeezed. I watched them do it.
Great fresh food, always a great brunch on weekends, and today i had a grouper sandwich with a vegetable medley delicious!!!
Went to have lunch here. This is a old style restaurant, and bar. Very dark with dark wood, and few windows into the bar area. We were seated in a bubble of light in an alcove that looked out on the street. Very picturesque. The service was very prompt and attentive. The lunch menu was rather massive and lot of lunch and bar type food. I had the fish and chips, portions were ok, but average. Fish was nicely breaded and fried well, the chips were kind of bland. Prices were acceptable. It was an enjoyable experience.
We had a good time but we where in a good mode for the evening. The food was not good, may be just a fluke meal. But if your going to have a Valentine dinner with your wife. The food must be good. Service was subpar as well.First impressions are powerful. I may try again after sometime.
Great service; solid food (hadnt been disappointed in anything thus far, and some items have been really good! Had a Reuben on last visit with the sweet potato fries, which were really good! Wife ordered a mojito, and was impressed when the server asked if she wanted to select her own mint (she passed, but it was one of the better mojitos shed had lately!)
The food and drinks have been great every time, but whether its a good or poor experience depends on which server you get. I would have given 5 stars after my first visit, but only one or two after my second. Ive been there about 6 times total, but if I got consistently good service, Id be a regular. So far, its been about 50/50.
On short notice the staff at Shillings were able to accommodate a party of 15! Moreover, the guests wanted separate bills and they pleasantly accommodated. At meals end, they unexpectedly surprised us with fantastic desert, complements of the house. If you are ever in Marietta and want to enjoy Southern Hospitality, give Shillings a try. You wont be disappointed.Ken OConnor
From the time I walked in, to the time I left, we we were treated very well and the table service was excellent. The food was of great quality and the steaks were actually very good cuts. I see lots of people saying the word overpriced. Those people apparently havent picked quality steaks from a local butcher, as a 6oz filet generally goes for $35 and up, where here the meal goes for $32 here, which most likely means the fillets arent grass fed/local. They did an excellent job at picking the cuts and cooking mine they hit rare perfectly, but on my girlfriends, they missed medium rare and hit medium. All and all, the experience was great and Id actually come back. This is one of few places I will state the steaks are actually decent. Im very picky with my steaks, so for me to say Id come back is saying A LOT.
My wife and I stopped by around noon for lunch. We were quickly sat at a table by the window in the front of the restaurant. A waiter came and took our drink order. Upon bringing back our drinks, we were asked if we were ready to order, and we let him know that we needed a little more time. After about 20 minutes, the waiter had still not come back to take our order. We continued to wait, and I watched as our waiter walked around near the bar and the kitchen while other tables around us were served. Finally, the waiter came back up near the hostess stand and began talking to another waiter, while looking over at our table, gesturing, and saying something to the other waiter. Finally, the other waiter (not our original waiter), came to our table to ask if we needed anything. We said yes, that we were waiting on our waiter to come back and take our order. I even asked where our waiter was, and was given no response. At that point, my wife and I decided that we would just leave. I can only speculate as to why our waiter suddenly decided he no longer wanted to serve us, but needless to say we will never go back and I highly recommend everyone else steer clear.
Im not sure when this place was shinning, but its not now... B rating on the restaurant with an 88. How do you not get an A. Of four orders three were wrong when it came to the table. Corn beef and hash came from a can. Presentation was a joke. If your going to charge the prices then you need to keep up with the theme. Staff was just standing around talking. Not sure anything but the fruit was fresh. Location and establishment have great potential, but Im never eating here again unless something drastically changes.
My wife and I decided to drop in for lunch on a beautiful Sunday. We had planned on eating elsewhere but unfortunately other places were closed (not sure hwy so many places closed on a Sunday, but that is another topic). Our waiter had the personality of a wet mop. He asked my wife if she would like a drink, she said not just yet. He said ok and walked off, without even checking with me. 10 minutes later he comes back for our drink order and has 2 words to say. It took more than 25 minutes for our food to come to the table in which he did not stop 1 time to apologize for the delay. In the meantime we hear the cook in the back and the wait staff fighting and cursing at each other. I had to yell at the waiter when he walked by to ask where the food was and he did not stop, just kept going saying it will be out soon. When the food came out my fries and sandwich were cold. The waiter comes by and tries to apologize but goes on to tell us about he argument he was having with the cook.Management, get someone who can actually wait tables and do something about your cook. If your people are going to argue you might want to not seat people near the kitchen or put some doors up so we cant hear it.We will definitely not be back here to eat.
The service in this restaurant was really bad today and the whole vibe was low energy. Especially from the bartender. I ordered something to go after and waiting a while and it being such an unpleasant environment we left before our order came out. So I have no idea how the food taste, but I will not give it a second chance. I felt like an idiot for even walking into the place.
Other than this restaurant having an identity crisis, its all good. The food was more upscale than expected and the bar is great. We did not have the problems with service as the other reviewers indicate. Its definitely a weird vibe though because the interior is some Irish, some Italian, and something else; its a bit of a mutt.
We asked for a table for four because my husband and I are Giants -67" and 62" tall. The hostess proceeds to tell us that because of the time of night they have to leave the tables of 4 open for the larger parties that may come in. Five minutes later we look over at the table we wanted and there is an elderly couple sitting there. Really???!!! My hubby confronted the hostess and she said she didnt seat them there and they arent supposed to be seated there. She wasnt even apologetic but more aloof about it. Whatever!!!! Waitress forgot my special request for my meal as well. Horrible dinning experience. We will never dine here again!
My husband and I had lunch here last October 2014. A very pleasant experience and the food was very good. So, this year we decided that since we had a pleasant experience before that we would have dinner there Friday night. The server was very friendly, but seemed rather busy with other tables. My husband ordered the salmon and I had stuffed chicken breast. When our food arrived, the vegetables and roasted red potatoes were room temperature. We dont normally send food back but at these prices we felt we should. Server very apologetic. When the food returned, it was warmer but not hot. The salmon was fine, but nothing to rave about. My stuffed chicken was not stuffed with the described ingredients. They used ham rather than prosciutto and it was missing the roasted red peppers in there. Chicken was rather dry and the panko crust was burned on one end of the chicken. OK but not worth $17. The server did give us a 15% discount for our trouble, which was a very nice gesture. We probably wont eat dinner there in the future.
Ive been to Shillings many times, sometimes to just grab a beer at the bar and others to have dinner with friends and family and I always have a good time. I love the atmosphere of the place with the stained glass windows and beautiful wood treatment and glass. The food has been delicious every time and the service excellent.
I came for lunch on 4/22/14, ordered a patty melt. It arrived burned and black on the top. I sent it back, and the waitress brought out a new plate, and supposedly a freshly prepared sandwich. But actually, the "cook" only replaced the top slice of bread, and kept the also-incredibly burned piece of bread on the underside. As if I would not notice the same burned sandwich, served to me twice. Then the waitress brought me a piece of toast so I could replace the burned bread with this slice of toast, and in essence, prepare the meal myself (without the grilling/melting portion of the recipe). Obviously, she was unclear on the method used to prepare a patty melt (as was the "cook"). I have eaten here many times, and this was unbelievable. Burn the food, serve it twice, and bill the customer. Dont think Ill be eating there again.
We attended a small wedding and reception for my brother in the upstairs banquet room. The charm of the restaurant and the surrounding neighborhood was wonderful. Large plate glass windows at the end of the banquet room brought in the beauty of the outdoors. The the service was attentive, polished and professional. My steak was delicious and cooked to my liking. Overall I cant say a bad thing about my experience.Shillings and the entire town has wonderful charm that makes our visit a memorable one.
