Sushi, dim sum & pan-Asian staples served with craft cocktails in an elegant, light-filled space.
Small but fast queue. Delicious food. Lives up to the reviews!
Lovely place, quick to serve and the food is amazing! Its a little busy around 2200-0000 when it first opens, but the line goes quick. Went there twice after we found it!
Good tasting ramen and very popular. Sometimes have to wait to get a sit.
Ramen was excellent. Waited about 30 mins for seat but it was definitely worth it. You order from a machine, go to your seat, hand them your ticket, & the food comes out very quickly!
It’s good, but probably one of the more overrated places in Tokyo. There are a hundred local small ramen shops on the corner of almost every block that are better than ichiran. That said, the ramen is still excellent - you just happen to be in a city where the standard for a good bowl of ramen is so high. The solo eating stall is a nice novelty and kind of fun. But I prefer the classic counter/bar style of eating ramen.
It lives up to the hype. Within my first week in Japan, I have tried about 4 Ichirans, and this one served the best ramen by far. You can smell, taste, and feel the specialization of the ramen. The rich pork-bone broth; the soft, thin, curly noodles; the tender slices of pork; the subtle taste of ginger, scallion, and spicy red sauce. And, the smiles of the chef serving the dish! This was recommended by a friend and was the best place I ate in Tokyo. I went at about 5:15pm on a Saturday evening and only waited 15 minutes, but by the time I left (6pm), the line was much longer.
Tasty food but seats do not have enough room for people with long legs.
After crossing the busy streets of Shibuya, we went to this ramen restaurant. This was highly recommended by my Japanese friend. The queue wasn’t that long. We got seated about 5 mins. Like any other Ichiran restaurant, you get your own food cubicle. I had Ichiran back in NYC but this ramen restaurant in Shibuya has the flavor totally different. It was more flavorful and delicious. I plan to go back to Tokyo next year and for sure will visit and dine here again.
My first time trying an authentic ramen, 10/10! Dessert also blew me away, not very sweet but still rich. Highly recommend.
We were surprised that restaurant staff speaks English. He switched to speak English immediately once he noticed that we were speaking English.Although it was around 4am the service quality was quite high. I recommend this ramen shop.
I think this is it for me, this is the best ramen I have had in my life so far. The experience as a whole was 10/10. The picture doesn’t look like much but after you taste this delicious bowl of ramen you’ll believe me. The ice cold Asahi draft beer just completes the meal! — forgot to mention the option to order noodle refill and double your bowl before you finish! Amazing.
Glad to finally come back the first ramen I had in Tokyo over 5 years ago. Love the unique Ichiran experience of individual eating and being able to customize how you want your ramen and soup base. Im a fan on thin extra firm noodles and a strong tonkotsu broth. So always a delight to eat here, but have to admit that while I leave satisfied, Im also very very full! Highly recommended for both the ramen and eating experience.
Ichiran is one of the most popular and hyped up ramen chains in Japan. I visited this branch after a night out. Staffs were polite despite them telling us to keep the tone down. (We had a fee drinks prior 😅The ramen was okay.
The most famous ramen shop (at least from foreigner perspectivemostly because you can customize your ramen and they provide english order sheet. However cant say it is the best ramen especially with all of the hype and its a bit pricey too
One of the most hyped Ramen restaurants in Japan but also worth the hype. The taste of the ramen is wonderful, the broth is rich and the noodles are exactly as you ordered them. You get a fill out form with a lot of customization options for your ramen, so everyone can get their prefered ramen. The ambience is quite unique, since everyone has their own little space, where nobody will bother you. I quite like it.The prices are pretty standard for a ramen in Japan.I can definitely recommend this place.
The consistency of the soup is really good, as well as the thickness of noodles. I personally love the fact of eating alone while you enjoy a great bowl of ramen. Even tho is always very crowed is worth the wait!
——How to order——There are two machines were you could choose items. There is only one type of ramen and few side dishes like egg, pork slices etc. Just go for a set (ramen + few side dishesor choose ramen and choose sides separately if you are very picky. Order a beer along with set.Set is around 1500 yen. Beer is 580 yen. Ramen alone was around 950 yen.——Customize the Ramen——Pick up a questionnaire with all the options yo customize ramen. (Richness, texture, onion, garlic, spicy level, softness of noodles). Choosing spice level is free. You can choose from scale of 1 to 10. 2 is the default. I choose 6.Lets eat now:When they tell your counter, just go there and place the token and questionnaire in front. The staff will take your token and bring food.Tip: You can order anything extra even when you are in the counter. Just press a button(in front of table)to call the staff
My first ramen experience in Japan. I’m writing this review after I’ve tried other ramens to be more objective and have more experience of local food. I really liked this place and the atmosphere that gave me the feeling of traditions and local food and ways of having meals. The food was delicious! Recommend to visit
Hands down the best ramen ever. We love loved the broth. Absolute heaven. Used the vending machine fast service and great welcome. All sides were available to order extra, I really wished they had a cup of broth option😋 We bought some non meat ramen to take back to nz. Thank you
If you want to experience having ramen a bit differently just come to Ichiran it is different and interesting. You first have line up and advise how many people. You then will be called to make your order. To make your order here you go to a vending machine and choose what you want and get a ticket. You need to keep this ticket for when you are lead to your table.Your table will have shutters on either side so you dont see or get disturbed by anyone else. A bamboo curtain opens in front of you and the staff member will ask for your order on your ticket and then after a couple of minutes your meal is brought to you .The ramen is nice and hot and enjoyable and quite delicious. The booths are different and it is an experienced in itself to have shutters on either side and not see other people.
Great ramen, long que.. Very long one especially in rush hours, you will order thru the machine even the extras.Tips. You will have extra garlic for free thus you dont have to order extra one.The staff are friendly and speaks English.
Always love a bowl of Ichiran when Im in Japan. Not only the noodles are always delicious, the whole experience is very unique - the seats availability indication system, the ramen customization options, serving behind the curtain, the isolated booth (I noticed you can actually open the side screen so you can social with your next seat), etc.. If theres anything at all I can complain, Id say the waiting time was sooooo long....That I would suggest to avoid actual meal time.... And also, the price has gone up so much over the years.
Worth waiting in line for any day of the week. This was my first proper ramen experience and the bar has been set extremely high! Staff worked efficiently to collect our order preferences and get us seated despite the high volume of people. You’re sat at individual booth like seats and your order delivered to you via a small window to the kitchen. I was seated next to my partner, however, certainly not necessary to get seats together if not possible as you’ll be too busy focusing on the flavour and ramen experience. I will definitely be returning when next in Tokyo!
Very tasty ramen. Had to wait, but totally worth it. Each booth had its own tap of filtered water. Choose your flavour at the machine, hand your ticket over to the waiter, and choose your flavour levels (recommended levels provided). A peaceful dinner, in the chaos of Shibuya. Loved it.
This is the very first ramen I had on my very first trip to Tokyo few years back and it became a ritual to me to have it as my first meal whenever Im in town. The balance between the soup and noodle is unreal. The quality is so consistent that it brings nostalgia on every visit. Personally prefer the Shibuya branch (the one near a junctionas its quite hidden and less people specially in the mornings (never queue again by coming there for breakfastand its a whole new level of experience.Foodibear gives Ichiran Shibuya a solid 5/5.
Great ramen with a short wait that was reasonably priced. Very interesting store layout with personal booths for your meal consumption. Not recommended for groups however as most likely you will have to seperate, and its not a great environment for chatter.
This should be the first stop of your Ramen adventure and sets a good foundation for all the Ramen locations you can find around Shibuya and other parts of Tokyo. The broth is tasty well balanced and you get the option to select your noodles. The meat is tender and you can tell the amount of work it goes into making sure it adds more taste to the Ramen dish. Lunch is quiet but can get busy throughout the day. Highly recommended! Tip. The meat slices are thin and small so if you like more of serving of meat add it as extra. Make sure you have cash as its pay at a vending machine to get tickets.
Best ramen have ever had in my life! Smooth broth, the option of making it spicy. Their best seller is about $15 USD and includes extra meat, and an egg. The restaurants designed to be single seat because youre supposed to be "one with the Ramen" (stalls). Great service with a smile and the wait outside was well worth it.
u need to prepare 1200 - 2000 Yen for 1 plate.. and u need to be patient.. because there are many tourist want to come to this place.. approximately 45 minutes.. and u need to pay first on vending machine then wait on seat.. the chef will prepare to u..
Very good ramen, good atmosphere. The place located in floor -1. You get your own "booth" just to eat, very nice concept. its a little bit more expensive than other more local ramen restaurants, and the menu is not rich enough. Overall - worth visiting
Best ramen restaurant ever, very recommend to everyone to eat here.- Price for 1 ramen is ~890 yen- Combo for ~1,1xx yen (ramen + additional pork + vegetables + egg)- free water.- Additional pork (4 piecesfor 250 yenIf this is your first time and have no idea what to order the restaurant have a suggestion already guide you for most popular, if you have no idea, just select that one.
Pros:Location easy to find.Incredible flavor.2000 yen basic noodle.130 yen extra egg130 yen extra half noodle serve.Cons:Extremely busy and crowded.Long waiting lines , too hyped.Cannot save places for other customers.***ONLY CASH***
The queue is really long and you cannot save other people queue even for the children also is prohibited, everyone must in line of queue. Cannot go anywhere until you enter there or you will get scolded by the waitress and need to begin from the bottom line again. You can order by the machine at the front of entrance. The taste is good but the pork meat is really not much. But everyone go here if you are at Japan
Tried this for the first time. Great food. Fast service. You have your own cubicle and each one had their own tap for water. You start by choosing what you want and paying through the machine and giving your order to a staff. They also sell some instant noodles you can bring home. ( photos from 2018)
Quick, fast & delicious! You order at the vending machine and once you get a seat it’s literally a single booth with collapsible wooden walls on both sides pending if you go with friends or not. It’s not as claustrophobic as it seems. I tried the solo experience and it’s pretty neat. You have a water fountain at your table. If you order the green tea almond pudding, you’re given a tray and all you do to is place it on the sensor and that’s when the servers know your ready for dessert. The ramen taste is pretty good, I’m not a huge broth person so I can’t comment on that.
Best ramen so far. An unique Japanese experience for anyone to try. Even with a line till the top of the stairs youll be waiting around 20-25 minutes. Moreover, the experience is worth the wait. You dont have many options food wise, they do ramen and ramen only (more or less :)). But you do have some options to decide you want your ramen to taste (spicyness, garlic, etc.). Definitely worth the try.
Food was delicious. Loved the experience and it was very calming feel to the place. My friends loved the food, and this is some of the best ramen I have had in awhile.
Came here for a meal at 3:40am. I’m visiting from the US and i loved the ramen here! It’s very centrally located by bars and the shibuya crossing. I had a great time and the food was delicious!!!
Five stars for ambiance. After a 20 minute wait in a drafty stairwell, I loved the old school feel of this place. The noodles though, they seemed one dimensional. It was nice to choose noodle texture and customize the bowl. I won’t be back, too many other yummy spots in town.
This place is great especially for solo travellers. When I went the que was long but moved at a slow but constant pace. When seated there was a coat rack directly behind me along with a box of tissues on the wall. I have long legs and a few shopping bags so sitting was awkward. I loved the privacy of the cubicle, the ramen was great and the bowl was big. The price was reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.
The very must try and visit ramen restaurant in Japan. One of the best you can have. Delectable and you will taste the umami flavor bursts inside your mouth. To taste this yummy ramen, be prepared to queue for 15-30 minutes since this restaurant is usually flooded with customers from around the world. Order and pay your ramen at the ticket vending machine then wait for your turn to sit and choose how you want your ramen to be served.
Even though the majority of customers are foreigners - the venue does look authentic and the food tastes great. I usually cant finish a full portion of ramen by myself and thats one of the rare places in Tokyo where they allow to share one portion - they even gave us an empty bowl and two spoons for a dessert.By the way, matcha tofu tastes great. Recommend to try as an alternative to Western desserts but significantly lighter and healthier.
Full of foreigners, long queue. Inflated prices. When you order Ramen, no sauces or pickles etc are included. You need to order and pay for these individually - see photo of menu. You sit in your own cubicle blocked off from other customers and eat in silence. No idea why this place has such a high rating, as it’s just a gimmicky place for tourists. And apart from anything, the taste isn’t good.
We waited an hour, starting at 7.15pm and only sat down at 8.20pm. Once you order your food from the vending machines, it is a slight wait of 5-10minutes to your table. You can choose the intensity of the broth, how rich you want it to be, whether you want green onions and even how soft/firm you want your ramen. It was AMAZING! Now we know what the fuss is all about. We ate every noodle and drank all the broth. My toddler loved it too. I even ordered the green tea almond pudding with green tea sauce and I was in heaven. I will definitely be back again!
It’s a very small branch so queuing time was 1 hour for our lunch. But the internal design was smart for such a limited room. With hanger behind each seat, and (movableseparator among each guest. Food was served through curtains in front. It gives everyone good privacy, and incidentally made the restaurant feels mystery.Oh right food wise... my parents were impressed with the signature noodle. Ichiran did great at allowing personalising flavour (oily, salty, noodle softness). It’s rather mature and efficient ( tokyo styleat this branch by offering a set with all recommended side dishes. Pork was tasty though salty. Matcha pudding was good! And personally I believe green onion is a must!
Absolutely love Ichiran. Love their original Ramen with medium noodles with a soft boiled egg. We got there at 11-11.30AM and just beat the crowd. When we left, there was a very long queue.
Its a quirky and tasty experience, probably one of the reasons people visit Japan. To consider: serving Ramen only, long cue and none-group-friendly sitting - along a counter, with wooden buffers that partially separate you from your fellow diners.Bottom line: recommended once, because of the unique experience, the Ramen is good, and because the restroom will never runout of toilet paper... :).We were looking for a place to eat near us, saw this one close by and highly rated on TripAdvisor, so went there without knowing what we were in for. The cue on the street consisted just of us and 4 more people, so it seemed weird the doorman said it will take 40min. We believed he was exaggerating. We should have known better than to doubt Japanese accuracy :It turned out the cue continued on the stairs going down to the sub-street level, and then in the hallway, before entering the rather small dining area. When we finished and went out, the cue on the street was long! I dont want to imagine how much time they waited, but it seems waiting in cues for small dining places is a habit in Tokyo. Anyway, once in, you order and pay through a vending machine (theyre simply addicted to vending machines in Japan), where you choose the basic Ramen, and can add to it very few extras. Yes, this place is only about Ramen (which meant well have to go to another restaurant afterwards, because one kid doesnt eat noodles...After that stage, you wait in the hallway, where a staff member - theyre not really waitresses - ask you to fill a form with regards to cooking preferences: with oil, little oil, no oil; soft noodles, medium or al dente; Salt, Mild Salt, no Salt, etc. after that you wait some more, staring at an electric board, with small lamps representing the seats, flashing with different lights, to say which guest just started eating, which is about to finish, and which is free. We had to wait extra time, since we were 4, and wanted to seat together, as much as together is possible there. Finally, when called inside, you seat along a counter, with wooden buffers separating you from those dining next to you (you can partially open it, if youre a group). You then see two hands serving your order to you, through an opening in front of you, without you seeing the face of whoever serves it. If you want to order some more, theres a form ready for you to hand to the person behind the opening. Needless to say, its a very warm and friendly atmosphere... but thats what so special about this place. The Ramen was good and the experience was interesting, but we wouldnt go there again because of no variety and long waiting time.
Extremely excellent ramen with convenient opening times. The restaurant makes solo eating comfortable and easy with their interesting layouts and design. Definitely a must try when in Tokyo.
Ichiran used to be one of the best chains. It was affordable and very tasty. However, now it has become mere tourist attraction from China and Korea. A bowel of ramen costs nearly 1,000yen. Sad. Still tasty tho.
A very interesting experience for eating ramen. Rumors say that this is how most Japanese eat their ramens, but if you look at the other ramen restaurants, I think thats not the case. Nevertheless it is a fun experience to have your food served through a "window"The ramen is great too.
