935 Santa Fe Ave, Fresno, CA 93721, United States, Fresno
No-frills space in the Santa Fe Hotel for multicourse Basque meals or a traditional American menu.
Down to earth, friendly, low key vibe! Love the staff.
Not what we had hoped for. Too bad Shepherds inn let a TV show ruin them. Will not be goibg back
Drinks were good, calamari was not. The bartender was nice
Beautiful outdoor area. Sign posted outside said they close at 1pm but online it says 8pm.
Funky place. Dining in bar was just so-so but outdoor area with coffee in the am was cool. Heard about them from undercover billionare show on discovery+
Wife and I Ordered $30+ ribeye. It came with a side. We ordered potato salad. We ordered our meat medium rare. As you can see we got well done. Meat wasnt seasoned and was waaayyy overcooked. Service in the bar was spotty. For a $30+ plate you would think soup or salad would be included, but no. At that cost you would also think to add a veggie? Also they ran out of mushrooms. Now with this said we where told the kitchen was cooking for a large party on the patio. To me this was an excuse. All the professional kitchens Ive been in know how to manage orders. I was once told by a chef that every plate that goes out of the kitchen is an audition for future business. With our experience we would never consider coming back for dinner let alone having a large party. My suggestion is making your plates with what appears to be value adds like soup salad and a veggie along with the side and entrees. Very disappointed. We will try again in the future and pray for better food, service and a better value.BTW the potatoe salad was amazing. Our dinner was compt and rightfully so.I would love to hear a reply from ownership.
A group of us showed up for luncheon they said they opened at 11 but it noon when they still werent open we left probably will not go back there ever
I wandered in to grab a bite before my train and was not disappointed. The 559 hit the spot and Ashley was awesome behind the bar....."cheers big ears!"
Being a 30 year Fresno native, Sheps Club never disappoints. The food has always been exquisite.
Good food, I had a tri-tip sandwich and 2 servings of potato salad (one serving wasnt enough). They have outdoor seating with a stage. Live music at night is available sometimes. They also have a coffee shop in the back connected to the outdoor seating. This place does not deliver. Order ahead and pickup is allowed.Apr 5 2022 had potato salad, jalapeno poppers, clam chowder, it was good.I go to Sheps when Im waiting for an Amtrak train or when getting off the train and have a few hours to kill. The Fresno Amtrak Station is located across the street.
HORRIBLE, Just a terrible experience overall. Would NOT recommend! They have pictures with good reviews and it’s not even their food.
Had an absolute blast with Kenny showing us around the hotel, Ashley and Nicole behind the bar were so much fun. We went on a walking tour of downtown Fresno hitting some of the places on the National Historic Register and didnt quite make it all the way. When we stopped in here we found a beautiful bar, and some history buffs and decided to hang out and soak it all in.
First time here for coffee and had a wonderful interact with the ladies working. My friends coffee was a tad too sweet and they remade it and it was perfect after that. I had the avocado toast and it was fantastic & fresh.
Great drinks and a friendly bartender on her first day! Very reasonable prices. Just a good time.
Really great place, food was delicious and the staff went out of their way to provide a wonderful experience.
I wandered into Sheps Club yesterday as I had gotten off of the train and had an hour and a half turnaround. It was such serendipity. I sat down, had a nice French Dipped Tri-Tip Sandwich, and a Long Island Iced Tea. The server, who was also running the bar, Holly, was friendly and engaging, and she actually gave me a tour of the larger food and club complex that this bar was just a fraction of. I had a great time, and next visit to Fresno, Ill be going to Sheps Club again.
I was excited to try something new downtown but was disappointed. The food was mediocre and the female bartender (which was not our bartenderkept on coughing and coughing into her hands and continued to serve drinks and touch all the bar supplies without once washing her hands. The place has potential but needs new guidance.
Great Coffee and new food items all the time. They have a great chic industrial design that fits well with the old Hotel. The shaded patio is nice too!
One of the only remaining historical bars left in Fresno CA! Large whiskey and bourbon collection, the bartender Holly is very creative and knows how to fashion old school beverages perfectly..such as old fashioned, Sazerac, Side Car, or a simple martini (prepared the right wayHer bloody Mary mix off the hook!
Amazing unique coffee, friendly staff, and beautiful patio seating! This coffee shop is amazing, we just happened to randomly stumble upon it but now we are hooked! They even have a cute stage area and sell handmade jewelry. If you like unique, well made coffee and enjoy the atomsphere this is the place for you!
I love their sandwiches. The 559 is best chicken sandwich. Pastrami is bomb. And the tri tip wont disappoint. Emoyees are always kind and helpful. The indoor farmers market has fresh fruits and vegetables. And also carry a large assortment of Rosas milk products. I also recommend the grandmas popcorn.
Great food. Great service. And who ever is running that kitchen, really goes the extra mile. Beautiful presentation!
Historic Hidden Gem Downtown!Super Atmosphere, Great Staff And Food!Sheps 2.0 Is Here And Not A Minute Too Soon You Must Stop In And See The Changes. Amazing Transformation! As A Fan Of The Vintage Bar I Wholeheartedly Endorse The Speakeasy Version. It Is Cozier And Classy And The Staff Are Very Nice.
OMG. I had a Country western Club at the Deli today. It was fabulous. Everything was fresh, size was enormous. Dont think they could make it any better.
Overall a fantastic first experience!A little more customer direction info would be beneficial, but the service was top notch and the sandwiches...Took a team of 6 and not a complaint to be heard- we will be back!
The new changes are amazing and the coffee shop is perfect! I had a signature drink on the menu and it was delicious! I also browsed through the market and picked up some great produce! I highly recommend!
Shepherds has always been a great place. With the new renovation its looks great. I personally like the new coffee shop they have in the back. Good coffee as well. #FamousLee559
I had the Garlic chicken, very good. Its my first time and I enjoyed it. Its low key, I sat on the bar side. It has a hole in the wall feel. Lack of windows though, its pretty dark;however given its location its lack of windows makes sense. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. It certainly has a mom and pop feel. I did also attend before the lunch rush so... Be wary of the lunch rush.
Go Hungry! Ordering your food Basque style is the way to go.. Food was good and tasty! Fresh bread, soup, salad, beans, potatoe salad, stew start you off and then your main entree! All was very good! We will go back!
Amazing food served Basque Style. Great prices, low key joint.
The food was great and appetizers are 1/2 off at 3:00 pm.Each one was a dinner plate full. The calamari was excellent, I wish I had ordered two, so I could bring one home.
No frills place offering tasty food, large portions, friendly staff and excellent value for money.
A friend of mine lives in this area. He likes to come here and I enjoy it as well. They usually have a fish on the special menu and I order that. Always nicely spiced and cooked. Its a good place for a chat and chew.
Basque style food or American. ..both were amazing! Good price, great food, and easily accessed from the train depot. Service was wonderful. I cant wait to go again!
Great food great place. Both owners gave me a spot to stay and work when I had nowhere else to go. Took me in as family and took great care of me. I will always be thankful and have a special spot in my heart for the owners here. Thank you both very much.
Great food, great prices and wonderful, warm service. Its like going to have dinner with a big family. I had the Garlic Fried Chicken and it was really good. Perfect clam chowder, too. It comes with 7 courses, so come hungry and expect to bring home leftovers enough for a couple for days!
The place is a little hole in the wall, with a fantastic staff, wonderful service, and delicious food.I had a basque garlic chicken meal and there was sooooo many flavors and palate delights. There was way more food than i or my friend could eat.The drinks were served by a very beautiful (both inside and outbartender named Jazeale. The only regret i have is i can only give 5 stars. I would love to give 10!
I say 3 because I have mixed feelings. I am at a dance contest at a downtown theater. Its Saturday and all the restaurants are closed. Also there is no fricken parking in downtown Fresno. So I had scouted out shepherds inn in the morning and decided to get the family down there first chance. Well the chance came and I herded them over there as quickly as I could. We walked 0.5 miles. I got to the door at 205. The door was locked. A man unlocked the door and directed me to the restaurant. I seated myself they a young lady came out of the kitchen and said they are closed till 5. The food looks good and though it is a small restaurant it appears to accommodate large groups. But being told yes by one person and no by another is off putting. I will only be in Fresno once a year but I will most likely not eat at the shepherds inn.
After all the great reviews we decided to check out this restaurant before our show. The place was very outdated, the waitress was rude and snippy. The food was very mediocre and nothing to write home about, and I didnt understand why if we ordered the basque style way we couldnt take our sides home only our entree, when we paid for it either way? The ketchup was also just tomato paste with water, and then I found a gnat in my water.I will not be going back and I would definitely recommend not trying this place.
Delicious! Thank you June for making a wonderful night better. The food was amazingly simple yet so so flavorful. It needed no enhanced presentation. The chowder was a surprise with dill in the forefront and the flavor and texture of the shrimp in the potato salad was great. We will be returning and bringing friends.
Absolutely great place to eat Basque food while passing through Fresno. On par, and even better, than most of the Bakersfield Basque places, and thats extremely high praise. The garlic fried chicken, clam chowder, pasta and beans are the best around. Great service and old-school atmosphere. A truly great place to enjoy a delicious and hearty meal with family, friends, or just your "significant other". We will definitely return.
Delicious Basque style food. Cozy atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Would definitely recommend for someone looking for something different yet delicous. Monday is chili bean soup day and that in itself is a great meal. Lamb stew is also a must try.
Love the service, food (especially the calamari and happy hour deals!
After a long day of traveling, this placed cheered us up. The waitress and people were super friendly and the place had a good old American vibe. The food was plenty (7 course meal), steak was fantastic, and the prices were fair. Loved it
My buddy and I went on a saturday afternoon. Not to busy when we got there but it got busy around 4p. The bartender greeted us right away and got our drinks quickly. She was nice and pleasant. There is metered parking in front of the building. Parking is free on the weekends. Theres a 7 11 just to the right if needed. Theres 4 tv screens inside. The Olympics were on when we got there. They have many drink specials on the board and a nice large wine list as well as a large list of whiskeys. Nice place to stop for a drink.
Normally the food is great . I have never had to send my food back. Ever. In 20 yrs that I had been going there. But my lamb was black burned on the outside and it didnt taste good at all.My friend fish and chips comb also was not good. They did take off the lamb but not the fish .The rest of the Shepard meal was great.Idont know if they had a new chef but someone needs more training in cooking meals and need to change out there deep dryer oil as well.Looking to go back and have great dinner again.
First time I had even been here and I cannot wait to go back. Staff is warm and inviting, food is delicious, and it has a historoc atmosphere. Food isnt too expensive and you get a ton of it. A 7 course dinner that includes a steak and ice cream for $21 isnt bad at all!
Specials everyday. If you like obscure hard liqour that you probably never heard of, go drink here. Not to mention they have a beer and a shot specials for 6 bucks. Oh, and do yourself a favor, get the Basque meal.
This is a very relaxed, family restaurant. The food is good, lots of it and they serve the most awesome favorable steaks. Or your meal basque style. You wont be disappointed. If your into petite yuppie modern food, seek it elsewhere.
This is not your typical restaurant experience. Just with that it deserves a visit. The food is good, sometimes very good, but not spectacular. The Basque setup include bread, soup (our was a very bland chicken noodle), green salad (simple and excellent vinaigrette), macaroni salad (simple and excellent), veggie (eh), and varying sides (I had a so-so paella), ice cream (hey, they never brought me my ice cream!).Entrees are good. At our table we had a surprisingly good calamari steak sandwich, a good lamb steak and a good enough roast chicken half.Friendly unpretentious service, good home-style food. Enjoy!
