Shan Kitchen - Restaurant in Thongwa, Myanmar
authentic traditional Shan foods
I had Shan Noodles and fried tofu.. taste is great like real experience of having Shan Noodles in Shan State.
It is a cozy place to enjoy "Shan" dishes. The prices are reasonable. If you are new to this restaurant, I would recommend going to second floor for floor sitting tables!
This place is good, and a lot of websites recommend it; but I don’t get how it’s better than any other places found in Yangon which are all pretty good. It got quite busy at lunch and it seemed popular amongst the locals.
I was over rated in TripAdvisor in my opinion. Service and presentation were good but taste was not that great. I would rather eat at YKKO frankly. Decorations were interesting though.
The breakfast brunch was great. We went at 11:00 and everything was still hot and there was plenty of everything. Our server was very friendly and took good care of us. We enjoyed sitting at the restaurant
Best of the shan noodles shop in Yangon..Authentic cusinePocket friendlyVery friendly staff, they speak English and are always up with a smile..They have a great ambience for casual dinners..Serves beers too!!
Very nice food here very delicious the food i like it is a tea leaf salad it is crispy when you bike tase very nice 😘
My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch. We got quince juice and iced coffee, shan noodles, fried todu salad, special tea lead salad and wood ear salad. The special tea leaf was excellent, even my wife who normally doesnt care for tea leaf salad, or pickles, loved it. Of really special note was the fried tofu salad, which was one of our favorite things weve ever had. Downstairs had cool air and table seating, service was great, and food came out quickly, although one at a time. Prices are really reasonable. We have had a lot of shan style cuisine and this was some of the best.
Shan kitchen is a cosy restaurant that offers authentic Myanmar cuisine. The tea leaf salad was full of flavour and the crunchy texture made it more enjoyable. Their noodle soup was comfort food and very delicious.
Looked on Trip Advisor and the place was #4 out of many many restaurants in town. Plus it was Shan cuisine, which we wanted to try. We gave it a go. Well, we shouldn’t have. I ordered a tea leaves salad, their top notch dish. They were out of it. Plan B, another salad with fresh leaves of a local plant. They were out of it. The waiter then advised a salad of some pickled vegetable. I said ok. I added Shan noodles as my main, the dry ones, not the soup. My partner ordered some fried pork starter. They were out of it. Three dishes they were out of and it was barely 8:00 PM. He then took a dish of chicken in banana leaves and some sticks of fried sticky rice and sesame. My salad was... bad. With crunchy stuff that I suspected were coated peanuts. My noodles looked and tasted liked ketchup spaghetti, only a tiny bit more spicy. The sticky rice had no taste. Really, no taste at all. And the meat in banana leaves was some smushy omelette looking thing, almost shiny to the surface. As drinks we had a juice and a tea. I felt heavy when we left the place and by the time we got back to the hotel, I got sick. Total check of 8.40 USD. While the food was worst than what you could eat in some forsaken restaurant at the top of a bad ski resort, at least it was not a pricey bad experience.
May Myo Coffee is superb. Watercress Salad and Pork Rinds Salad are my favourites. Downstairs is quite stuffy due to poor ventilation. Upstairs is cozy with cute decoration but you need to sit on the floor. After all, Reasonable pricing. One thing - waiters need constant reminders. Theyre too forgetful 😂😂😂.
We came in at 21.15. The waiter takes our order and comes back in 5 minutes telling us they are all out of food. Kitchen is supposed to be open till 22.00, we could only order two basic rice dishes and the service was horrible. Cant say much more about the restaurant other that if you want to eat here come early.
Great food with right price. Our friend often say that Myanmar food is so salty, expect this place. We all love it
Awesome Shan food. Ordered the tea leaf salad and tofu noodles and both are authentic. Will definitely come back for a second meal!
Quite nice Shan cusien. We can say its perfect in taste atmosphere, and price other than the fact that no wine is available. But beer is available. We enjoyed full course dinner with 3bottos of beers paying total 25SGD in 3persons
Perfect little restaurant with authentic cuisine. Went twice for dinner. Shan noodles & spicy chicken salad are always a great choice !
Food is tasty and very reasonably priced...But I cant find much minced pork in my Shan noodle soup. Pennywort salad was good and very fresh
One of the better places Ive eaten during my visit. I had the spicy fried rice with chicken. Ive been disappointed in how bland most of the food has been in Myanmar, but my entree was very flavorful and moderately spicy.
i really love Myanmar traditional Shan food in this restaurant.👍 Tastes are really delicious, Fair prices and there are so many choices, like curry, fried rice, soup, salads and so on. its very comfortable to sit with friends. Two storyed buildings. This is one my favourite restaurant in town.❤i recommend to try this restaurant.
Great restaurant in Yagon city. Friendly staffs.
Their noodle dish was great, but I was not a fan of their Tofu fried rice. Very affordable prices 2-4k per dishes.
Traditional food from the Shan state of Myanmar can be found here. They are super fast and very attentive. Food is quality and worth for the money. Down stair there are chairs and tables but 1st floor you can sit on the floor and eat. They have soup, noodles, rice and very good dumplings. Id recommend the spicy fried rice and Shan noodles with this dumplings.
Good place to enjoy local food. Nice & helpful staffs. We had joyful time there. Try as much salad as you can 😋
Go for a lunch break and it was great ! Food display is very pleasing and price is affordable..Taste is decent for a Shan ethnic, may be they made some adjustment for western customer. Thats why its popular within tourists and expats.Theres a mezzanine floor if u want to sit like a local!
One of my favorite places to eat in Yangon. I love Shan Noodle, fried chicken, and watermelon juice. The food is not fancy but rather simple, hot, clean and yummy. The price is very affordable. I highly recommend every friend of mine coming to Yangon to try.
The best Shan traditional restaurant in Yangon. This is the premium branch of famous local shan restaurant, Nan Htike. Nicely decorated. I like Shan noodle prepared with sticky rice noodles very much. I would say the best in town. Fried tofu salad was amazing. They have the signature May Myo coffee with cream. One of my favorite too. I will go and try chicken rice here which was excellent at old Nan Htike.
Had one of my best meals ever, did the fried tofu, iced coffee and the steamed vegetables and rice. The iced coffee was one of the best Ive had!
ExcellentVery good taste, fresh and fair prices. We can recommend this place!
food came so slow. not that good taste nor price.
Cheap, good food with very nice staff. Prices range from 2.5-4k Kyat for mains.Tables with chairs on the ground floor, and low tables with floor seating on the top - be warned! Love the steamed chicken dumplings and the pennywort salad here especially. Also give Shan noodles a try, if youve never had them/ like to compare places.
The food is really good and they have a wide selection. They have 2 different kinds of tea leaf salads. The yogurt was interesting and had curds in it. The prices are reasonable and service was nice.
Nice place. Affordable prices. Good juices. However we hace ordered meals with chicken and we have good pork. Also beer was not cold enough (I have asked waiter specifically to make sure he brings COLD beer)
Tastes are highly recommend for healthy diet and prices are reasonable.. 👍👍👍
I love food here. Best noodles place and one of my favourite place.
Really good, healthy food and friendly staff. I highly recommend this restaurant and would always go there again!
Delicious Shan cuisine in small, cute space with friendly staff and tasty spicy goodness !
Fantastic place nice ambience..! Good food for non veg lovers..! Limited menu with interesting options.. time permits take a call for sure..!
Delicious food, cozy place, good service
Hope to go there again to enjoy delicious food, bit expensive tho.. well decorated and quiet
Nice food, comfortable seating
Nice Shan noodle. Good ambience! And cheap price. It’s in number five shan noodle in Yangon. I recommend it try one time
Delicious Shan soup noodles and tasty avocado juice. Reasonably priced.
You can eat pretty much variety of Shan foods here. My favorite is May Myo Coffee. Other vegetable salads and fries are good too. Good for lunch. Go upstairs if you wanna bring many people along.
Nice environment and change from the hustle and bustle of Yangon but the food was disappointingly bland and overpriced. We had the warm tofu noodle, pickled tea leaf salad, and dumplings in soup. Would not go again.
Good food, friendly staff, suitable for Vegans/Vegetarians if not sure, just ask for it :-)
The food here is absolutely amazing Shan style. Recommend the pork salad.
Very delicious food, very polite staff. I recommend the Tea leaves salad, it was super tasty.
You can get Shan Traditional foods,I love the Phat Htoke , it is very delicious and good.
Really great introduction to Burmese food! You have to try the pickled tea leaf salad here, extremely flavourful and delicious. I also ordered the damson juice which was quite unpleasant, though perhaps it was just a flavour I am not used to. Decent prices and great presentation!
