Large Taylor and Walker pub opposite Victoria station with streetside tables and a downstairs bar.
Typical pub but service was great, staff friendly and lots of seating available which surprised me being so close to Victoria Station.
Worst fish & chips ever! More like fish & batter.
Good ambiance. Staff bit cranky, but probably they were short on kitchen staff. Took 50 minutes to get our lunch. Nachos btw, which usualy takes 5 minutes. Got a complementary beverage though for waiting. Which is nice.
Nice Pub with amazing drinks. Really good selection of beers and other liquidts. Food was great too.
Ordered the iconic British fish and chips. Blah blah blah... Had much better.Barmaid could use manners. Patience.
Interesting place. Order at the bar and they bring it to your table. Good fish and chips.
It was my first time lunching in London, and I love the place, the food is outrageous and the staff is so friendly. Thanks to Ricardo that receives me very well. It is a place to come back again later :)
As we arrived just before the kitchen closed there was a bit of a wait and the chips were cold, but the rest of the food was very tasty. The proximity to Victoria Station and Coach Station was great, too.
Visited Shakespeare pub today, October 12 at about 2 pm. Attended bar to be served by a miserable staff member who doesn’t seem to like her job. Ordered some meals to be told Sausage:/mash not available. I could live with that. Ordered Abbot ale to be told after attempting to pull it, it was not available. Ordered two teas which arrived and taken by me to table to discover water was warm. Not sounding great is it? Back to counter to point out water was not hot and the same girl replied” what do you want me to do”. I said give me hot water for tea! She busied off to return with Hot water but no apology or anything. Mac and cheese meals were nice but looked like child portions. This was all with the same female staff member at Never again spending 54 pounds at Shakespeares bar : to be or not to be - NOT
The staff were friendly enough but the toilets were diabolical and were not checked (therefore not cleaned and replenishedduring the 6 hours spent in this pub. Our table was also not cleaned before we sat down.
Wonderful drinks, delicious food, amazing service, comforting vibes and good prices. Best pub I have been to in my trip to London. 10/10 recommend to all travelers.
Myself and my sis called for lunch 7th oct 22, food was gorgeous 😋 very busy place, thanks to the lovely lady that looked after my gluten free needs, as im coeliac, 👏👍 highly recommended, 😊😊 see you guys next year, 👍👌🙂🙂
Came on a rainy day last week, were new to London so we tried the pub opposite the station. I got to say it was very busy but Leila was so kind and cared for our table. The young boys at the bar was super helpful telling me what’s the best pint to drink but the food came cold and tasteless
Really nice pub. It was much cleaner (no sticky floorsthan I was expecting, staff were very friendly. The food was standard for a pub, would eat there again but not amazing. Good prices and nice decor touches to fit the Shakespeare theme. Service was quick, it was busy but not packed and not too loud, for a Tuesday at 6pm.
Poor service really.. menus incorrect asked for a water told itd be brought to table then told I needed to get it from bar had to queue whilst good was getting cold for a water that never arrived. Tomato soup took about 40 mins ..
Large portion of classic Fish and Chips hit the spot.
Decent place , bit gruby( but it is busy and heavy footfallespecially mens toilet , drinks excellent value for such a central location , we didnt eat here but by the looks of things coming out on plates , food looks decent and hearthy , lots of tourists good vibes
Food - Just about everything we asked for from the menu they didnt have. Apparently they were setting up a pizza oven. Putting out menus was a mistake. No tea or coffee either. Changing to pizza is also a mistake. Its called Shakespeare for goodness sake.Guess I wont be going back.
Lovely place, friendly staff. Had the chicken platter between 2 of us, was fresh, tasty and more than enough. If Im in London again, would go back!
Update:Hot day, warm weather, i was busy taking the order for my table of 5, dine in.I asked for a glass of water and ive been ignored by 2 waiters.3rd time is a charm because the waiter just told me to go and serve myself from next to the stairs (nice idea, really like that).Maybe i was just venting, i changed it to 5 stars. My bad.Really sorry for that..
AWFULTried to have a drink there today at 3.45pm with my GF.Place looked completely closed with no sign or explanation. And is advertised as being open at 12.Eventually an angry looking woman came and signalled to us 10 minutes. So we sat outside patiently waiting for 20 minutes. She stood with her back towards us making no effort to open the place or accommodate us.So we gave up and had a drink instead at the lovely Jagged Hare. Who where instead very friendly and welcoming.AVOID SHOULD BE 0 STARS
Half the food was out of stock but what we did manage to order was lovely, fresh and hot. Cracking staff. Worth a visit.
Situated opposite Victoria Station, the staff here were superb. I had two young daughters with me and they were helpful throughout. Thank you! The food too was spot on and on the hottest day of the year, the draught IPAs were perfect.
Partner and I are visiting from overseas. We had the worst meal and service tonight. Ordered a pie with pees and curry sauce. Got no pees or curry sauce. Asked the server and she said she’ll ask. She avoided our table the whole night and never came back. Staff didn’t seem like they wanted to work and were chatting amongst themselves.
Tourist beware.I went with a group of friends, food and drink were good, service was ok until they decided to stop serving us because "other customers" complained about us.The staff did not check if the complaint was valid, true and fair. Thats was pure discrimination of the locals.Never coming back.
Really nice staff working here, food was good as well.
worst pub in victoria. Came in Sunday and there were flies everywhere and the barstaff had to keep swatting clouds of them off the fruit. The food was oily and tasteless and I had to wait 45 minutes for it to come out without half the food on it. When it was finally corrected I had it slammed on the table by an angry looking waitress. Then had to chase her down for cutlery whilst she was standing behind the bar on her phone!! Considering I paid £17 for fish and chips I expected a lot more. Had a much more enjoyable time at the food court in the station.
Ordered a meal here for lunch and it took one and a half hours to arrive. There were other complaints whilst I was waiting. The staff seemed very disorganised. The beer and atmosphere was otherwise good.
A good one and near the Victoria station Shakespeare would have been in love.
Went there last week after work with a couple of friends for some beers. Cozy place and lovely staff, Toni was really helpful in choosing our beer and even upsold us the Nachos. Really nice side to share with friends while having a beer. At the begging they weren’t any tables available so we were standing outside in one of the wine barrels. We asked Toni if one table was available later if he could let us know. In less than 10 minutes he found us a table inside. Thanks for the great service!
Unfortunately sold out of a lot of menu items when we arrived which wouldnt be a huge issue. The main problem is that steak skewers are well-done only. The meal and venue are definitely really great, but the lack of choice with steak is a big stain.
Lovely food and drinks, they said it would be half and hour wait on ordering food, which was good of them to inform us. I think it was quicker in the end though. We shared the "favourites platter" and we said it was just enough to share for lunch without being overly full. The slider burgers were lovely. It was good to see security on the doors, it felt safe and everyone in there seemed to be enjoying themselves, some just stopping for a drink but also couples and families having lunch. Only 4 stars as my husband waited to get drinks for a while.
We sat down and shortly thereafter we saw a mouse run across the floor. It is hard to see in the attached picture, but it is a small gray mouse. Another table advised us that the restaurant had run out of a lot of the menu items as well, but given the presence of a rodent, we decided to leave. In any event, we were there for 10 minutes without acknowledgement of our table.
I was greeted by this wonderful bartender Savina who recommended me a really nice Spritz (I recommend too). The environment was fun, but there was an issue where my food order came to me incorrect. Savina the bartender did help me get what I ordered rather efficiently though. If I were her boss I would make sure she gets some kind of reward because last night was the BEST customer service I have ever received.
Great fish and chipsVery large and typical London venue. It is the ideal place to have a few beers with friends.
The beer is good and the staff is really friendly. The food was OK, but it could be a bit better for the price. Still 4 stars if you account for everything!
Waiting time too long and food came cold, the burgers were as cold as the beers lol, and bad service also you need to order the food yourself at the bar.. awful
A little scruffy to be honest. I was expecting more considering its location and name! The beer was fine.
Nice for a quiet drink but drink quality has gone down.Used to come here loads for a post work drink as its a decent size, never too buzy and the ambience was always nice. Service is always quick, staff are polite, though food was only ever just ok which stops it being a 5 star place.Went here recently and the spirit drinks were definitely and noticeable either watered down or the measurements were tiny , which is a shame as obviously thats its main selling point. So Im knocking off an additional star for that.Fix the drinks issue and Ill increase this back to a 4 star. Improve the food quality too and Ill give it a 5 star review.Edit: Appreciate the response Shakespeare but the drinks we had were definitely noticeable weak.
Felt compelled to write a review as the staff here are so lovely and friendly. At such a busy central London pub, you might not expect them to be as accommodating and attentive as they are, but they really make an effort. Great selection of beers and generally a good vibe. Only dropped one star as the food was just fine, nothing amazing but what you would expect from a chain pub.
A Green king pub. The food was very nice & very generous Id say too. Expect it to be absolutely heaving after 5 00pm even during weekdays
Nice pub and it was buzzing even on a Wednesday night. Most tables were full. We didn’t feel rushed though. The drinks were great.
Spacious hall, fast service, a sufficient number of different types of German beer, delicious food. Great for large groups.
Popped in for a pint before meeting friends at a restaurant round the corner! Lovely place will definitely pop back soon. Had a pint of Yardbird which Id never had before, gorgeous! Then an old favourite Abbott mmmmm!
Wow!!! Long queue on the Sunday at 2.30 PM.... meaning food should be good and I can confirm that everything was fresh and tasty!!Added to my favourite restaurant
Your standard classic English pub, named after William Shakespeare’s father John. Being directly opposite Victoria Station, it’s in a convenient location if you’ve got time to kill before a train or coach.Allegedly the landlady here was murdered in the 1800s and dog-fighting use to happen in the basement, though the same could probably be said of most pubs from 200 years ago.One last think to add, if you cause any trouble here they’ll have no choice than to say, “You’re bard!”If you found my review interesting or helpful please leave a thumbs up 👍 Thanks!
This is a pub with a great location, near to the Victoria station and the Apollo theatre. The food was nice and the portions were good. However, the staff was very unfriendly, they actually ignored our presence unless we put ourselves in their faces and talked. We understood they had a lot of work, but still, the customers have no fault in that and they should make an effort. Our table was dirty, and as you are expected to order at the bar, you are also the one taking your own beverage to your table. No one showed to take the dirty glasses nor clean and desinfect the table. It is important to say, we are in a world pandemic.Once our food was ready the waitress brought it and took the dirty glasses. But still...
I was there last Friday... after work drinks with a friend she picked this place. We ordered Sauvignon blanc, the guy in the counter did not said if was French, Californian or New Zealand... the wine was warm not chilled. He did not say how much per glass but for 6 glasses of wine and a portion of garlic bread I paid £62I did not get a receipt.Food was average, tables were not clean.Toilets were fairly clean
Capped a lovely, though rainy, day on the touring London by bus. The food and drink was delicious. Very busy place, obviously quite popular with locals and visitors. The only negative is the toilet facilities.... many not functioning, very foul smelling, and pretty dirty. Thankfully the bathrooms are on the basement level and the aroma didnt invade the dining/bar area.
This is my second visit and was as happy as the first time. A pub that offers table service is rare these days so its a breath of fresh air.Typical pub food which is good.Busy place so service is a bit slow but well worth a visit.Good selection of cider and beers.
