21 New Globe Walk, London SE1 9DT, Dzhetygara
Oak-and-thatch replica of original Elizabethan theatre, showing Shakespeare plays in the open air.
We attended the Ghost and Ghouls tour on Tuesday morning. We had a wonderful host called Mick. The tour was great inside The Globe and we had the added bonus of Mick taking us outside The Globe and telling us about the River Thames and what used to happen South side! Mick then took us to Bear Gardens to tell us about the 3 bear baiting areas and then wrapped up outside the Tate telling us about the Ghost of Mr Philips. I would recommend the tour. Mick was very engaging and animated.
Amazing place, has gift shop and toilet facilities on site. Guided tour was excellent and lasted about 60min. Easily accessible from the Thames riverside. Foot Bridge nearby giving access to and from the North side of the Thames, very close to St Pauls. The surrounding area is also nice to stroll along the banks of the Thames. Plenty of other places to see nearby.
Go for the standing room seats that are about the cost of a fancy coffee at Starbucks. Get there early and lean on the stage. Then watch some of the best Shakespeare anywhere in a replica of the original Globe Theatre. Even if you don’t like the play or understand it, the experience is memorable. Better yet read the play or wikipedia summary in advance and you’ll appreciate the experience even more.
We saw Much Ado About Nothing and it was awesome! Theater was well organized and managed. We had seats and were glad we had them. Standing in front has its perks I’m sure (potential to interact with the actorsbut not for us. Dress for the weather as the theater is open. We sat on the lower level (bay J, seats D54 and E70and it was a great view!
Went to the Henry VIII play on 6 October 2022. Its a modern take on the Shakespeare play. Not recommended for young children as play had sexual overtones. However they do tours during daytime so you can explore the replica of the Globe. I would go again to another play as it has a cool atmosphere.
Took the guided tour and learned so much about the history of the Globe. Our guide, Joe, was fantastic - very engaging and knowledgeable! We even got to see the actors warming up for the day’s performance which was an unexpected treat. Definitely worth a visit!
We went on a short guided tour. The tour was humorous and informative, and in my opinion it’s definitely worth a try!
An absolute must-see in London! Great trip, loved the guided tour! I wish I could see a live show there once!
such an amazing theatre, very well organised and staff are brilliant!! would totally recommend going here!! standing tickets are only £5 and you can see everything and so close up too! it’s amazing!! great experience! the theatre is beautiful too!
Definitely a place to whether youre a visitor or a Londoner. You can buy the tickets to see the show for as little as £5 and experience what it would be like to be a grounding in the days if Shakespeare. Bear in mind youll be standing for over 2 hours so you may like to pay more to get a seat. The theatre is a replica of the original globe and has a fascinating history.
Lovely venue, definitely a great experience, only downsides were no back support for most seating (unless seated in the last rows by a walland no rubbish bins. Saw Henry VIII here which was great, would definitely recommend.
What a place it may not be the original globe but seeing its likeness near the river is brilliant the staff are helpful. The gift shop and show availability is also really broad. Theres also a small Cafe with basics. There is also a lot to see in and around the building
Step back in time! The enclosed, open air theatre makes you feel like youre living in Shakespeares time. No bad seats. Take the guided tour. Absolutely wonderful experience.
We went to see King Lear, it was absolutely phenomenal! Great cast, and great performance! Everything for the audience is very well managed. They even have a prompter with subtitles for people who are hard of hearing. They generally give a break in the middle of the performance for people to get something to drink/eat. Lots of shops, places to eat/drink right outside.
An absolute must! Pick your favorite play and enjoyed be preformed wonderfully at this unique venue. Pay the extra pound or two for a cushion with your seat, totally worth it. I would recommend against standing tickets; its a very very long time to be on your feet. Also, benefits of being in the rear rows of any section: you have a rest for your back, and youll be out of the sun.
Absolutely top notch performance. The seating is rustic, but entirely appropriate for the setting. Rent a cushion.
I LOVED Shakespeares Globe Theatre. I saw Much Ado About Nothing, Henry VIII, and King Lear here. Much Ado About Nothing was my absolute favorite Shakespeare production I have ever seen. The gift shop here is FANTASTIC! Also, the walking tours around and inside the Globe were super interesting. If youre a student or fan of Shakespeare, this is a must-see.
Excellent stop. Not crowded. Clive was the perfect guide. Caught the ensemble rehearsing for The Tempest. So much history.
We went on a short guided tour but unfortunately didnt have time to watch a play. The experience would have probably been better if we had. The tour was fun and informative, and I think worth it, otherwise you wont be able to see the inside of the theater. The gift shop is also worth a browse. Found these miniature books and just had to have them!
Saw Henry VIII from upper section K. It was a great view and still really felt apart of the show. Obviously just such a cool experience and the showmanship of the production was impeccable. Laughed and cried and was shocked at how quickly the show flew by.Note: the seats are SO narrow. Felt a little like we were going to tumble down. definitely get a cushion when you buy your tickets. It’s tight when everyone’s sitting in the row so be prepared to know your neighbors. Also the online portal made it seem like you couldn’t buy food on site before the show and you definitely could!
We stopped by to see the globe theater got to catch a enactment of Henry VIII room tickets being very inexpensive and the prices for snacks and things were reasonable. You could come and go as needed throughout the play whos very handy since we had a baby with our group at the time. They even had a place to hold the stroller!
What a transport back in time! We had top balcony seats and I could not have been happier. Just a heads up, the play is 3+ hours long and I think it would have been worth springing for the cushion. The performance had a stand in reading for King Lear and he was absolutely magnificent - I cannot imagine what the actual actor could have done to have topped it!
Went to Globe to see King Lear. Several actors were sick including Kathryn Hunter (Lear). The actor Paul Ready took over the part of Lear at short notice and had to read from a sheet. He was more than excellent in fact superb. I loved his performance and I loved the Globe. What a production! Highly recommended.
An incredibly gorgeous that was a lot smaller and intimate than expected. I saw a production of Henry VIII that was equal parts entertaining as it was bizarre. Seeing it in the Globe was well worth the effort and made me appreciate Shakespeares eclectic writing more.
Absolutely a must see for tourists and locals alike. Best views and sounds are from the standing section(which are also the cheapest ticketsbut be aware of tired feet. Spectacular on all accounts!
Throwback to the Elizabethan era, the open air theater lets visitors to enjoy performances like how it was attended by people in the 16th century.I came for the play Henry VIII, which while the play was alright included the expected audience responses during the plays written by Shakespeare.Prepare a jacket as temperature drops halfway through the night shows.
The absolute perfect place to get a taste of the “real” William Shakespeare… with a contemporary twist!Enjoy the theatre in an exact replica of the original William Shakespeare theatre build only steps away. This experience is a MUST whilst in London!
Saw Much Ado about nothing in the yard. Amazing experience! The place has a few options for eating right outside. Nice view of the river and a no-hassle and safe entry and exit. Must visit! Especially recommend the play too! One of the best Ive seen.
A unique experience to be in such a theater! It is completely different from all the theater buildings you have seen so far. It is open in the center and the seats are all around wood, you can get cushions to sit more comfortably at extra cost. The plays that are played are of course all of Shakespeare.I highly recommend it.We had a great time even though it was a little cold.
This is a great stop on your historic tour of London. We stopped in to watch Henry VIII. We stood on the ground floor and enjoyed thr experience. The actors will interact with you, so be prepared to laugh. It was such an experience to stand where so many had to see a Shakespeare play. Warning though, if you stand, there is no roof and they perform no matter what so bring a rain coat!
Saw a play for the very first time and it was completely brilliant experience. A very capable and friendly staff. The short history tour of the stage is good too.
Get a £5 pound standing ticket at least. Really amazing experience for so little. Super cool to watch the crowd and be so close to the actors. We did the guided tour as well which was awesome as well.
Amazing! Saw “Much Ado About Nothing” with my wife. Spend the extra pounds on a seat (and the cushion, which we didn’t getit’s worth it to be able to sit for the few hour duration of the play. Lovely experience all around!
This place was incredible. Such a rich history and truly a step back in time! Watching a play here was one of the highlights of our trip, and truly a unique and wonderful experience!
We really enjoyed the tour of The Globe. We felt we had the real special treatment by being able to experience parts of a rehearsal before the opening of Julius Caesar! If you are a big theatre nerd, like me, then you may find that you know most of the history discussed in the tour. It goes barely skin deep into the history of the space and theatre of the time, which was a touch disappointing. Despite my previous knowledge it really is a lovely tour that clips along at a decent pace. We recommend for those who enjoy history and theatre arts.
I’m not a huge theatre guy but it was still really awesome to see the globe and watch a play. I had standing tickets which are super cheap, wear some comfortable shoes though if you choose to stand. Definitely worth going to just for the experience.
Been here multiple times and always had a blast. If you want to go on a guide tour, please book ahead.Try to book to see something in the smaller, more intimate indoor theatre or watch something in the Globe. Was fortunate enough to see The Tempest here last time I was here.
Its a must-do for tourists and locals alike with extremely high quality performances in an atmospheric setting designed to stimulate the experience of watching Shakespeare 425 years ago. It can be a little tough on the feet standing for 2.5-3 hours in the standing seats but its worth the effort to really get up close and personal with the actors.
Great experience and lovely recreation of a major historical location. Dress for the outdoor weather and use a cushion (or two!if you are in the seats and you’ll have a great time. Many seats have partially obscured views, so sit facing the stage for best results, but it’s still a great place to see a show no matter where you sit.
We watched a 90 minute version of Macbeth here. Superbly done. The dread and horror were palpable in this classic tale of fate, ambition, power, and vengeance, just like it should be. The theater is a treasure, but like most treasures the seating is for people with shorter legs. The "cheap seats" are for those who stand next to the stage.
Great place! Went for tour and it was really interesting . We had headphones to hear our tour guide . Our your guide was very friendly , clearly passionate about her job and had a laugh with our group. Tour took roughly 45 minutes and was worth it! Cute shop as well.
The tour we took was very informative, our guide was super friendly and could answer all of our questions. Note before you go that this is a replica of Shakespeares globe, you can still go see where the original globe was, really close by, but theres not much to see. The fact that its a replica though, doesnt take away from the historical impact you can feel and see in this building its really cool to look around. Id love to come back in the spring/summer to see a a play here.
The guided tour was very informative and engaging. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and the staff was very friendly. The tour takes about an hour. My 5 yr old and 2 yr old stayed engaged and enjoyed seeing the old theatre. There was also a sword fighting demonstration we attended. The knowledge and skills displayed were incredible. Highly recommend.
No surprises here, exceptional venue, exceptional performance, even the sausage roll was absolutely delicious! Time nad money well spent and as soon as we are bale to get more tickets we will go again, and again!
The play was very nice, it was an enclosed theater, so it was warm in January, be ready to sit on a bench for three hours. Might worth to select the seats close to the walls.
If you are booking seats the only advice Id give is to look directly at the stage from the middle section. If you can cope with standing thats the most immersive way to see the play. The RSC are brilliant and really do bring entertainment to the masses. My advice is buy your food and drink from outside the venue as its pretty pricey inside. The gift shop is great too.
Twelfth Night, Brilliant! I loved it! Actors were phenomenal! Just so happened to meet one of the actors after the play... Rachel and she was lovely... kindly autographed my newly purchased Twelfth Night book!Members of staff really welcoming and helpful... from the booking office, information desk, memorabilia shop and stewards.Looking forward to my next visit!
The place is of a great and astonishing history, and it is what left from the 16th century and the first rounded theatre in the world! It has the chairs of the rich and the space for the poor, also, it doesn’t have curtains, and it’s as mentioned in art history books! However, I booked the guided tour and I can say that the guide ruined the experience since she actually started from the 1900s and her tone was not attaching at all. I guess a better guide would make the experience way better!
Have been to the Globe a few times in the past year and theyve been really enjoyable experiences. Staff are really warm and friendly, taking pride in their job.The theatre itself is beautiful and the plays are fantastic. Both Romeo and Juliet, and a Midsummer Nights Dream are brilliant, with slight modern twists and brilliant casts. The globe also lets you bring in your own food and drink, but no glass.
Lovely atmosphere and a great show (we watched the Twelfth night). Just wish the seats were a bit more comfy. For £65 one shouldnt sit on a narrow strip of wood with no back rest!
