M-37, Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Samarqand
Cemetery site with many ornately decorated, colorful tombs & ancient mosaic-tiled mausoleums.
Beautiful history and architecture with great picture opportunities, and signs in 3 languages including English.
Great place to visit. Lot of history and nice buildings
Definitely one of the top two sites in Samarkand. It has a very intimate feel, as if you are strolling through ancient streets.
An ensemble complex of mausoleums, history explained, there is an admission ticket
Incredible place.Samarkand is all about mosques and mausoleums. So, its one of the city specialties). The scale of buildings, frescoes, mosaics, ornaments, arabesques blows your mind. All the more, the gem of deads city is stairs, which is used to forgive your sins)I didnt notice, but honestly tried (counted stairs forward and backward)).The location is quite close to Registon and other architecture masterpieces of Samarkand!
Some beautiful interiors and exteriors of this closely packed set of mausoleums.Be sure to look inside all of the mausoleums, especially those which are plain on the outside.A bit of a climb up the steps all the way to the end bit worth it.
loads of similar looking Islamic artistic buildings, they all contains tombs of aristocracy of the past in Uzbekistan.Loads of steps to go up and then come down too.
We got here quite late in the day and were very tired so couldnt properly enjoy everythingAllow couple of hours or at least 1.5 hours to properly admire and enjoy this place
Another gorgeous site in Samarkand. It’s significantly smaller than other sites, and as such, can get crowded. Mind your surroundings and be respectful to locals coming to pray and offer respects at this holy place. If you’re visiting, please offer a helping hand to elders as they walk up the stairs.
Very magnificent for a cemetery / necropolis. Architecture is sooo grand--mosaic made out of majolica tiles
Great place. A bit expensive maybe for Samarkand. Not so super much to see. But still impressing somehow.
Incredible historical site.
The place was amazing. Historical place, you will feel yourself like you went back to the history
Breathtakingly beautiful burial places
The most beautiful place in entire Uzbekistan. Breathtaking patterns of tiles, mosaic and majolika. I recommend to come before closure in order to avoid crowds and admire evening light. Next to the complex is a modern but interesting cemetery with nice views.
Hands down the most beautiful cemetery in the world. The scale of this place is second to non & the ornate mosaics in hues of blue are a sight to behold. You can spend hours here taking in the serene beauty of the place.
Amazing architecture. A historical place with lots of stories behind. Really a must visit in Samarkand.
It is a place full of arts and beautiful architecture. You will get the feeling of being in a museum 😍
Shah-i-Zinda is so gorgeous place.I think all people should visit there.
More amazing mosaics! The left hand row of tombs are beautifully decorated with majolica tiles. By the time they built the right side row (30 years later} they had learned to do beautiful mosaics. A few are spectacular on the inside too.
Large complex full of 10+ masoleums - actually quite unique compared to other sites like Registan with some of the brightest blue colors in the country, but much more crowded (at least when we wentand relatively small. You can spend about an hour here and cover everything thoroughly.
Built differently from other sites and has very nice and intricate work of art
Brilliant architecture and decorations, nice to visit. Small hint, if you visit the cemetary first, the gate to the Shah-i-Zinda complex might be open (north-east partso this makes the entrance free of charge ;)
Gorgeous. A masterpiece of a necropolis. A peak into the magnitude and greatness of the Timurid Islamic ‘renaissance’. Sahabi Qutham is buried here.
Great place with 700 years of history, beautiful architecture and lots of stories to learn which you would have never heard so much. A must visit in Samarkand
Its one of the historical places of Samarkand in Uzbekistan where you travel to the past of great people of the world.
Shah I zinda is calm place.there were lot of structure with nice artwork of construction each structure have 4 to 5 graves in it.shah I zinda is located after going inside the building.these all structure is situated uphill and you can take samarkand view from there also.we just take a look there and spend hardly 30 minutes there.we find same environment as per old traditional way.
I think one of the best places to marvel at What Samarkand has to offer. Must have in the list of places if visiting Samarkand.
Incredible necropolis at the gates of Samarkand with the possibility to visit dozens of kings and queens tombsVery lively with locals visitors
It is pretty amazing. It is must visit if you are in Samarkand.
This place is so beautiful! Honestly the tile work and ancient artist eye is beyond commendable. For those thay only come here to take pictures of the Blue Tiled walls, please note that this location is a holy site and hosts the graves of quite a few scholars.Dressing respectfully is a requirement as well as some other instructions! I am posting a picture of the notice board). Its awesome that they have an ATM machine on site right at the entrance.Signage in English is available which is a relief.Taxis are easily available here and it costs 12000 som to or from here to the Registan area. But watch out for taxis who over charge on the exit.
Necropolis in Samarkand which Khusam Ibn Abbas (Prophet Muhammad S.A.W cousinwas burried here as claimed by locals. Absolute beautiful complexes of Royal family tombs. Get proper local guide to tell you incredible story and history of this place. Do remember that it is still the religion place and as tourist, do respect their culture here.
Welcome to Uzbekistan ❤️❤️🇺🇿🇺🇿🇺🇿❤️❤️The first people known to have occupied Central Asia were Iranian nomads who arrived from the northern grasslands of what is now Kazakhstan sometime in the first millennium BC. These nomads, who spoke Iranian dialects, settled in Central Asia and began to build an extensive irrigation system along the rivers of the region. At this time, cities such as Bukhara (Bukharaand Samarqand (Samarkandbegan to appear as centers of government and culture. By the fifth century BC, the Bactrian, Soghdian, and Tokharian states dominated the region. As China began to develop its silk trade with the West, Iranian cities took advantage of this commerce by becoming centers of trade. Using an extensive network of cities and settlements in the province of Transoxiana (Mawarannahr was a name given the region after the Arab conquestin Uzbekistan and farther east in what is today Chinas Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Soghdian intermediaries became the wealthiest of these Iranian merchants. Because of this trade on what became known as the Silk Route, Bukhara and Samarqand eventually became extremely wealthy cities, and at times Transoxiana was one of the most influential and powerful Persian provinces of antiquity
Full of unique and beautiful mausoleum. In the end, there are the tomb of Kusam Ibn Abbas, the cousin of Prophet Muhammad.
Awesome place, great architecture, great culture, great history. It is spectacular that they were able to construct in such a similar style over all these centuries
Beautiful collection of royal mausoleums. Depending on how important the person is, the more intricate is the interior. Theres also a prayer room which is amazingly decorated. The enclosed acoustic made the prayers even more heaven bound. A must. From this place, u can walk to many places of interest, including siob bazaar, and end ur walk at Registan.
A breaktaking place, possibly the most beautiful site in Samarkand.Arrive early or late to avoid the coachloads of tourists - and please dont treat the place like its there for your own personal photoshoot. Remember these are tombs.
Shah-i-Zinda is well worth a visit! Each mausoleum is very unique and the tiles are very well conserved.
This ensemble was the last thing we saw in Uzbekistan after a week and it was impossible not to have your breath taken away by how compact and individually and collectively gorgeous this complex is
what a beautiful place. i studied history so i really enjoyed this visit.Uzbek people are very humble and very lovingly. this is must visit place in Uzbekistan
One of our favorite places in Samarkand- we went twice during our stay here! So many spectacular tiled buildings! Worth going more than once if that’s your thing! :)
In my opinion this is one of the best photo spot in the city. Try to be there in the morning or in the evening for the best light! You will find certain possibilities to enter the buildings there and see the beautiful decorations inside them!
Beautiful and worth the walk. So much to see here and had a really calming atmosphere. Reasonable prices of chilled water at the entrance too :)Photos from July 18
A beautiful gem of a place full of locals visiting. Interesting how people place money on certain tombs. Seeking assistance from spirits?
A necropolis, with tombs dedicated to various figures from the Timurid era. The work in each of the tombs is stunning, and will leave you mesmerized. Do not miss this place when in Samarkand.
Awesome place with some exquisite mausoleums. Very intricate work and beautifully tiled architecture. Need to spend sufficient time here to be able to soak in the experience
Beautiful place indeed with lots of tourists and friendly cashier. Price is affordable. Inside lots of historical buildings part of the complex. Gone through restoration though. Inside the complex there is a beautiful chapel like room that is a great hide with amazing interior. You can go inside most of the rooms and even take free photos. Go there in the evening to witness beautiful sunset.
A must go in Samarkand!!! The blue tombs are perfect matches to the blue sky!! I stayed there until sunset, where the sun was setting down Bibi Xonum madrasah. It was amazing
Excellent historical place and well worth the visit. Spectacular tiles on most of the 17 mausoleums and tombs. If you are an aficionado of the blue tiles of mosaic, majolica and double glazed terracotta then you must come here.
Amazing and incredible tombs date from near 1300. The details of the designs of tiles are fantastic. Important people of the history of Samarkand and Timur and descendants are buried here.
