Great place great food great service

Long time local establishment has been reinvented several times over the years. Ive been here a couple of times recently and enjoyed their smoked meats and local tap beers. Smoked wings and smoked pulled pork are very tasty.

Great fish fry on Fridayss. Extremely competent and friendly staff.

To the young lady that served the ENTIRE restaurant by herself this evening, I want to say that you did an incredible job handling it. The owners are lucky to have you.

The best Chicken Caesar Salad I’ve ever had! Period. End of story.(except please keep reading)I’m so happy I got to talk to the mastermind behind this dish (Brandon knows what he is doing!!!), because I wouldn’t normally order this salad. I usually find Caesar salads to be bland and boring. Not this one!Smoked bacon (made in house), croutons (made in house), plus a Caesar dressing that compliments instead of overpowering the salad - yes, again made in house.Then Brandon explained how he makes the chips in house (I won’t try to explain it, because I won’t do it justice), but just know that it is like a chip and a waffle fry had a baby, and these chips are the wonderful, delicious outcome ~ light, but flavorful! A must order!!!The cherry on top was the great service. Kathy was a fabulous bartender and server! She was welcoming from the moment I sat down, and was attentive, without being overbearing. She also made great cocktails!Overall, The Shack was a wonderful experience, and I look forward to coming back on a weekly bases while in town for work. They apparently had a rough go during Covid, but Brandon (& othershave been working tirelessly to improve things, and I’m definitely impressed! I recommend you give them a try as well!

Very bad. Bad French fries. Brisket was dry and burnt. We will never go there again. Fabulous waitress tho!!

So sorry I didnt get the waitresses name! We were there 8/16/21 She was running the floor alone (and doing a stellar job!The menu was smaller than what we first saw online, but the new menu is really good! Everything prepared fresh, the smoked brisket was excellent! My husband had the walleye dinner and even I liked the fish when I tried it! (I dont normally order fish, I only eat what he catches)HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!Thank you for such a wonderful meal and such great service!

“Fine Dining” Restaurant, Bar & Lounge & Liquor Store. The bar has penny machines and drink specials. I haven’t eaten in the dining room here for ages, but looks the same. It’s a lot quieter and fewer patrons than I believe they’ve ever had. However, the staff in the bar and also in the liquor store are fun, respectful and a pleasure to do business with.

Used to be great. The past year this place went to the dumpster. They dont have anything left on the menu and if it is they are out of it. Usually food quality is bad and service not good either!

Stopped in here on a trip to Minnesota the food was below average I had to send my hamburger back because it was burnt like a hockey puck the staff was friendly and the environment seemed okay it wasnt very busy when we were there

The shack pre pandemic used to have top notch food. Unfortunately not anymore at this time. If you wanna have some drinks its a good place togo!

Very small menu. Ordered Mac n cheese and was told about 25 minutes later that they couldn’t make it for me. I ordered Buffalo wings and they were soaked in one of the worst Buffalo sauces I’ve ever had. My girlfriend got a brisket sandwich with very dry and tasteless meat. Our order took very long. Very unsatisfactory. Don’t waste your time and money here like we did.

Was in last Friday 9/23/20, I ordered fish fry. It came to the table about 40 mins after I ordered, which I was surprised about as there were maybe 5 tables total used in the restaurant. The fish looked Delicious, but unfortunately it was Terrible. The fish was slimy and literally fell out of the extremely thick batter, there was absolutely no flavor. My fish came with coleslaw which was just as bad as the fish, it was so bitter and tasted like it was just mixed with vinegar. I left my entire meal on my plate, paid my bill and left.

Unfortunately we didnt have a very good experience, two items that we got off the menu were burnt pretty badly. The waitress was kind and prompt for the most part but dealing with the issues she kind of just shrugged it off. She did take them off of our bill though so we were thankful for that :-overall it was a decent experience but we probably wouldnt go back for food again

Not happy! Took an hour and a half for food that came out one plate at a time. The ribeye that was ordered medium came out lukewarm and rare; sent it back and the only thing that changed was it was a little warmer. Not wanting to go back anytime soon, and we had people from out of town with us so it was upsetting to say we are going for a good fish fry and have this happen.

Amazing food! All meats are locally sourced and the fresh cut fries were delicious! Great service and a nice atmosphere.

We had a party of 6 adults. Got there about 6 ordered dinner about 6 20. Dinner did not come 7:10. Every dinner with NO exception was cold. Ribs,walleye,shrimp,prime rib sandwiches,spinach melt,all disappointing. Wessandwich.ddisappoidiudisappointingdisappointed

Decided to visit a restaurant in Superior while staying in Duluth. We chose The Shack because, overall, it was rated higher than the other restaurants nearby. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to expectations. We both ordered hamburgers, which we found oddly dry and tasteless. Not sure if they made the meat patties ahead of time, than reheated them for their customers - but the meat was much drier/tasteless than a normal burger. Wait staff were pleasant and prompt, but thats not enough to warrant another meal there again.

Just ate here for the first time. Looking at the entire outside of the building you might wonder but pulling in and seeing the front of the bar area it looked nice as did the inside, very nice. I like smoked stuff so I tried the chicken and it was excellent. My wife had the shrimp which was tasty but this is why I gave a 4 instead of 5 star. The shrimp could have been warmer and if served with butter instead of butter oil I would give a solid 5. Im from out of town but if I get this way again will stop for sure. Great food for the entire family.

Service was terrible but food made up for it. Not the place to go if in a hurry.... Or want your beer within an hour or place your order without asking to. Atmosphere was weird with alot of servers glancing out the side of their eyes knowing its taking forever.

I stopped in the liquor store today for the first time in years. The young man working the counter was extremely helpful and friendly. That level of customer service is rare these days. I didn’t catch his name but I’ll definitely drive the extra miles to go back.

Love this place, right in my neighborhood! Great drink specials, apps and the Cuban sandwich is DELICIOUS!!! Must try! The parmesan fries are pretty awesome as well! Nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. Also accommodates a large party really well!

Good well priced liquor store that is now off the beaten path. This location was just off the Arrowhead Bridge so while it doesnt look like it today this was a high traffic area connecting West Duluth to downtown Superior. Today at 4 PM the parking lot was empty but they were open and good selection. The restaurant was great the last time I was there in 2003. I cannot say anything about the restaurant today other than hope they are still open and as good as they were.

First time ever going here ... it was well lit very clean , our server was excellent !!!! I ordered the Brisket sandwich and the house fries. The brisket was awesome! So were the fries. My girlfriend ordered the Cuban sandwich witch was also good. We tried the smoked wings with sides of the homemade hot sauce and some kind of ranch and it was also excellent! All the smoked meat is done in house and it is very good! We will be stopping back and I recommend!

We went in on a Monday night at 7:30 ish. There were two bartenders working. There was another table of four. The food was great, budget-friendly, clean... But the service sucked! Every time we ordered a drink it was like 8 to 10 minutes before they would come back. Just really slow service. So if you need something extra with your food or the waitresses attention, you probably wont get it for a while.

Food is good, staff is helpful. I personally wouldnt take my wife and kids to this location, because it is a bar, and it feels like a bar. It is clearly a local hotspot, observed one gentleman stroll in go behind the bar and grab a remote to turn the channel on a tv my associate and I were watching. We were almost done eating so no big deal, but highly unusual in my opinion.Entrees are a tad pricy, vegetables are clearly frozen and of similar quality to a vegetable medley you grab in the frozen section of a grocery store, but the cooks can actually cook a steak which was a relief. Dont expect the waitress to refill your soda, if you want a refill youre going to have to ask.

Good liquor store with a pretty good selection, great prices. Food next for at Ugly Stick Saloon is very good as well! And did you know, Connollys Tom and Jerry batter was created near by The Shack? Ask the check-out guys and theyll tell you the story.

1/2 pound burger with bbq sauce (made in house)bacon, cheddar burger was served with onion straws on top. Messyily divine burger served with great fresh fries.If craving a burger then this one brings craving satisfaction. Drinks good value.Chicken dumpling soup was 5 stars if you like heavy dumplings. If your mom makes soup better than this one then youre lucky!

Friendly staff.Food is priced well.Had the smoked bacon mac n cheese. Was pretty decent. Chicken fingers were bomb.Wwnt during happy hour... $2 off appetizers from 3 to 7 daily.

Was a very tasty burger. I had the Big Smokey with the brisket. For 2 adult meals and a kids meal and 3 non alcoholic beverages it was under 30 buck. We spent only 6-8 dollars more than if we had went to McDonalds. And the quality was of course better

Hands down - best meal of the trip.... great service too. Unique biscuits & gravy! The Southwest Special was to die for and the Lumberjack Hash wasnt bad either. Were even thinking of going back for dinner!!

The service was great and the restaurant was clean. The decor is acceptable if a bit ungrounded, as if they couldnt decide between Diner/Chipotle and bar decor.Unfortunately though, the food is far below the standards that a resteraunts should hold themselves to. For the Duluth/Superior area the quality is truly lacking compared to the other local restaurants.We ordered the nachos, as am appetizer, the toppings appeared to come from a can and the beef was unseasoned. For entrees we ordered burgers that were simply of poor quality. There seemed to be some general skimping on quality ingredients to save money, though the recipes are probably the greater cause for the poor quality of food. The building and staff are sound, but the recipes need an overhaul.

We tried The Shack last week with friends and family. Its terrific! Loved the remodel (although they could dim the lights a bit for a warmer ambience). Try the Steak Bistro: sliced steak cooked to perfection, served with baked potato, grilled onions and vegetables. Great prices, too!!

On the outside The Shack appears to be an almost run down second rate restaurant but if you give it a chance you will be pleasantly surprised. The food is standard pub fare- large portions of average to good food at a very affordable price. The service was very good and the atmosphere was extremely friendly. I had a very nice time at the shack.

If you havent been to the shack in a number of years.. Id HIGHLY suggest stopping by. New atmosphere, new look, new menu, and all were above average. Fwiw, try the apple burger... its way better then I thought it would be, and the server recommended it! Good atmosphere for the kiddos too with a great menu! Burgers, Beer, Pizza, Specialty Sandwiches, and to top it all off, better then your average trip to the local chain restaurants! If you want a change.. stop on in. Highly recommend it!

I had sauteed walleye that was fresh, flavorful, and not fishy. It came with a baked potato that could have been warmer and some tasty vegetables that tasted grilled then sauteed. Friend had the pasta special that was an alfredoish sauce with chicken and he liked it. And another friend had a wild rice burger that he liked. The place is fancy for Superior with comfortable booths with lots of room. Our server was very attentive with a pleasant attitude (Alexandra). My only complain are the prices.
