Great atmosphere but bad servixe we had to wait about 15 monutes for tea

مقهى تراثي جميل. الكعدة كرويتات والحيطان مزينة بصور تراثية حقيقية. لكن من زرنه المكان كعائلة صراحة مرتاحينه لان هواية شباب ومراهقين بعضهم اشكالهم مو مريحة يشاركون الكعدة وماكو جناح خاص للعوائل. الشي السلبي الثاني هو تاخر وصول الطلب الا بعد التذكير مرتين. اما الحمام غير متوفر.باختصار المكان مثالي للرجال فقط.

مكان جميل...وائع ..ولكن يفترض منع شرب الأركيلة داخل المقهى لأنها تسبب ضرر لغير المدخنين ..واضافه العصائر مع المشروبات الساخنه

اسس عام 1907 . يعد من اجمل و اقدم المقاهي العراقية و موقعه في بغداد نهاية شارع المتنبي ، مكان جميل صراحةً له اجواء خاصة و رائعه رغم بساطته لا نراها في اي مقهى آخر ، يتراود عليه عامة الشعب بمختلف مستوياتهم اليه و غالباً يتداولون فيه ( الثقافة و الفن و الشعر و السياسة ...

ذهبت بحماس كبير لرؤية هذا المكان ومشيت من بداية شارع الرشيد إلى هذا المقهى في درجة حرارة حوالي 52 درجة. كان الأمر ممتعًا جدًا بالنسبة لي. عندما وصلت والأسئلة التي طرحتها على المسؤول المقهي عن المكان التاريخي هناك والمقاهي ، للأسف لم يجيب بشكل صحيح. وكان الأمر محزنًا جدا

مقهى الشابندر هو من أشهر المقاهي القديمة في بغداد، ويقع في نهاية شارع المتنبي قرب مبنى القشلة (المدرسة الموفقية سابقًا)، و مبنى المقهى كان سابقًا "مطبعة الشابندر" التي أسست عام 1907 وكان يملكها موسى الشابندر، الذي أصبح وزيرا للخارجية في زمن الملكية عام 1941 في وزارة رشيد عالي الكيلاني. وأصبح الآن من الأندية الأجتماعية المهمة في بغداد [1]، ويعتبر أحد المعالم الثقافية المهمة في العراق، ويتداول فيه الحديث عن الثقافة والفن والشعر والسياسة.[2] ويَتردد عليه عامة الناس والتجار والموظفون والأدباء، وكان يَتجمع به السياسيين والمثقفيين العراقيين، مدير المقهى حاليا هو الحاج محمد الخشالي الذي أفنى أكثر من 55 عاما من عمره في هذا المكان بعد استلامه لإدارته عام 1963.

Iraqis sit at the century old Shabandar café, one of Baghdad’s few remaining traditional cultural cafés, at Al-Mutanabi street in the Iraqi capital. Since opening its doors a century ago, the establishment has become a hub of Baghdad’s intellectual life, drawing poets and politicians to its wooden benches and photo-lined walls.

A very cozy traditional Iraqi cafe, you instantly feel the atmosphere when you enter, looking at the old photos of kings and ministers and famous Iraqi celebrities.. Recommend for anyone who seek authentic Iraqi cafes.

The Cafe is a place rich with Iraqi culture and decades of history, both painful and wistful. The ambience here is the epitome of nostalgic ‘Old Baghdad’, making a visit here bittersweet and absolutely worth it.If there’s anything I’d recommend you do if you chance upon this place, is to ask to meet the cafe’s Manager, Mohamed AlKhashali. His story is absolutely heartbreaking.

It is a historic cafe that you can see young and old people sitting together and smoke hookah.

It’s a really nice place, in fact it’s the oldest cafe in Baghdad and since it’s right next to Al Mutanabi you can buy a book and go grab some hot beverage and relax, I really recommend it if you want to get the atmosphere of the 50’s and 60’s of Baghdad

What a wonderful place...old school Iraqi cafe in the heart of Mutanabi with Mustansariya Madrassa very close as well as Bazaar and colonial buildings around...most atmospheric part of Baghdad I have seen to date. Park on West side of river and walk over bridge to avoid traffic or take the ferry boat. Cafe traditional with fascinating photos from early 20th century Iraq all around walls, shiesha and tea / coffee and very good conversation....always manage to sit next to English speaker and some fascinating clients to meet and chat to about the old days...

Its a wonderful place, takes you from different an era to another in the history of Baghdad. Its the only public café where females can visit and enjoy drinking traditional Iraqi tea. Its a place for foreigners as well to visit and enjoy filming, taking pictures and spend some time in looking at the pictures in the café that show Iraqi political history in the 20th century.
