Piazza Castello, 20121 Milano MI, Italy, Milano
Huge Medieval-Renaissance fortress with historical museums & art by da Vinci and Michelangelo.
A large, impressive and in very good condition structure. The entrance to the castle grounds is free of charge, so you can walk around as much as you like. There are also a few museums that you can buy tickets for, but they’re not very well organized - hard to find, and inside you have to walk the same room twice to see everything, because of how they are displayed (some, such as the Egyptian museum, were closed).
One of the major attractions in Milano you should not miss. However, many parts have been renovated only recently (less then 100 years ago). Anyhow, a book of history both for Milano, Lombardia as well as Italy.
Great place, it is mandatory to know. The castle is open and there is a lot to see. There are a few museums you have to visit, they are not expensive and the park behind is really beautiful. You need to check before the visit because on Mondays, the museums are closed. It is an open and a very beautiful space.
The castle and the park are so nice. Its a wonderful place for a relaxing day and spending some time in the nature. The entrance to the castle is free, but there is also a museum inside.
Didn’t pay the visit the museum. The building itself is amazing. But not much things to visit inside. Worth spending 30 mins herein. The plaza inside is quite empty, same for the garden.
Medieval fortress built in 15 century by Francesco Sforza. Inside you can appreciate works by Michelangelo and Leonard Da Vinci. This fortress is also de house of many museums, this includes the Egyptian museum, the museum of ancient art, the museum of musical instruments, the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco, the Archaeological museum of Milan and the museum of the Rondanini Pietà.
Very interesting history. Walked the grounds with a tour guide as part of a Milan city tour. Learned a lot but didnt enter any of the buildings and no free time so I cant speak to the museum elements.
Good, just be careful of strangers giving out the small pieces of string (a sentence I never thought Id say!). Simply there to scam tourists and take your money, luckily we were aware about this before hand. Just ignore them, shame these people effect the beautiful grounds.
Great architecture, its one of the greatest tourist attractions, Too many tourists. Tooo many pigeons even. Many eateries nearby. Beware of cheaters. Many photographers moving here & insisting you to be clicked. Please be cautious. They will tell that theyll take only three Euros, but they start clicking one after another & then printing & demand at least twenty Euros.
It is really amazing place. 5 euro for entrance is absolutely nothing comparing to what you can see. In entrance they will ask you to put the bag in storage room (and even give you coin to use with the lock if you dont have). Than you can spend few nice hours going through the castel in different levels and see the different art objects. There is available audio guide in few languages. But also you can find local enthusiasts who can tell you the stories (but they are not official museum staff!)In the end of excursion road you will find little restaurant when you can get food and drinks. I recommend you to read about the castel prior to your visit - its will make this journey more mindful.
Great Experience! Well priced tickets for the amazing and large museum with a lot of interesting pieces, make sure to have a 1 euro coin if you want to lock your bag (it’s mandatory)
Gorgeous castle! Definitely worth checking out while in Milan. There’s also museum exhibitions inside the expansive castle grounds.
We purchased skip the line tickets from GetYourGuide and it was great because we didnt have to line up but you need to make sure to download the app on your Phone beforehand to listen to the audio guide. The place is huge so we actually didnt get to visit all the exhibits bec we came a Little late and there were parts of the place that were closed already. Make sure to allocate enough time to fully tour the whole place!
Great place, great museum! The line to get the to kets was pretty long (around 15/20 minutes). The museum itself was huge, yet some fun exhibitions were closed ( Egyptian and Leonardo ones). Nevertheless, it is a fun place where one can find good exhibitions and even some cultural events!
Lovely castle to walk around or chill at. I personally loved the garden in the middle of the castle where you could sit out in the shade and enjoy the surrounding views. The museums have mazing pieces. There were some real surprising pieces of art. I paid 2 or 3 euros to get into all 14 unique parts of the castle. Theres art varying from paintings to furniture to cloths and musical instruments. Definitely would recommend anyone to spend a few hours here.
You should definetly visit, in order to see/understand how was old Milano city configuration. You may find some exhibitions and museums as well.Might be a nice weekend activity and do not forget to have an "Aperitivo" in the center around 😉
Its a really beautiful medieval castle. They sometimes have free concerts inside, depending on when you go, so make sure to check in advance if they have an event for that month to make your experience more one of a kind
Amazing outside is free to visit and wonder around, inside was 5 euro for a full adult to enter to see the museums. If you are interested in history go to the museum if not I recommend saving the money and just wonder around the castle outside.
Beautiful castle with a great museum that contains variety of artwork, paintings, statues and antiques.Last entry to the museum halls at 4:30 pm.Tha castle and park are for free to enter, the museum ticket is for 5 euros.
One of the best and richest museums and exhibits in Europe. Offers a very extensive collection of art pieces including sculptures, paintings, artifacts, and other exhibits. A must-see collection of museums all housed in the same building and accessible for only €5. Not to be missed!!
This place is so stunning. I sat within the castle walls listening to live music from a stage that had been set up while sketching a picture. Truly a wonderful experience. Not going inside and instead walking around some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen will be free and well worth your time. There are also free toilets and a water refill on site which is a bonus.
A must see when in Milano. We went through the castle grounds first and the visited the museums. Unfortunately the leonardo da Vinci part was closed, but everything else was well worth the visit. We needed about 2,5 hours for walking around all the open museums.
Beautiful historical building and only costs 5 euros to visit the museums. Range of different museums to visit from art to musical instruments to contemporary art. Note that not all museums in the castle are covered, some need to be reserved but not sure how. The day we visited the ancient Egypt museum was closed. Bonus is its right next to the gardens.
A great sight in Milan, the ticket is 5 euros and gives you access to several areas. Very nice open gardens all around too.
Great castle. Lots to see and explore. The museums are huge! Good value for money compared to other cities attractions. Great for a walk around even if you do not want to visit the paid museums. There is surrounding gardens and a big historic peace arch, a small cafe and a few little souvenir stands, drinks stands. So you can also eat and drink here. The number 12 tram stops right outside so its also easy to get to.We visited on a Saturday but it was not too crowded for a peak summer weekend day.
A wonderful collection of mini-exhibits within a castle! Much of the castle was restored after damage during WW2, but lots of original ceiling frescoes remain, and you can also get up onto the ramparts to really explore the fortress. The cafe in the central courtyard has very fair prices for a museum cafe!Bring a 1 euro coin for a locker if you have luggage/bags with you - the coin is returned when you leave. Id recommend visiting on a weekday (other than Monday, when the exhibits are closed).
A magnificent castle located in the Sempione Park almost in the hearth of Milano. It is completely free to visit and enter. You have to buy a ticket to enter the castle museums equipped with medieval requisites and statues.Castle was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, which was at that time the duke of Milano.Over the years, it was renovated, enlarged, and transformed into a castle that we have today.
Magnificent Castello Sforzesco is amazing. Right from the entrance you could feel the history. When you imagine the importance that the family Sforzesco had over extent period of time. The most influential and rich people of the time who shaped the history of art, society and practically the whole world lived here and perhaps brainstormed their ideas and had conversations with the greatest minds of all time like Leonardo Da Vinci for example. One of the greatest periods of humanity, Renaissance was happening here behind these walls. Speaking of which you could see walking Leonardos twin in the garden. For a fee you can go upstairs and visit the museums of the Castello. Or just walk around the beautiful gardens that embrace this medieval masterpiece. There are many statues, frescoes and paintings to admire. I definitely recommend visiting while in Milano. It is easy to find and you will tick off one of the greatest castels of the world.
The castle and museums were really interesting. I could have spent all day there. There are also a bunch of great places to eat nearby.
This a great place to unwind after a long day.The entrance inside the indoor courtyard is free every day till 20:00. (in the summer)Its very quiet even though there are usually a lot of people going through it.Its mosquito free!
We had a beautiful (sunnyday there although some of the rooms were the museum and some art pieces were not free, we still wandered around the huge castle for free. Great photo spots and overall a stunning national landmark!
Interesting exhibition set up of the Ancient Art Museum. At Pieta, there are places you can sit on and admire the masterpiece quietly.
A walk through the history. The castle is huge, so you need to allocate a few hours to enjoy the walk and admire the location.
The ticket seller at the museums was very polite. The museums are well worth a visit, they are diverse and interesting. You might be able to see members of the cat colony living in the castle ditch!
Really cool place to visit , didn’t go inside the building but walking around the castle is already so much fun 🤩 the castle itself has long history to discover then the big park is a good entertainment spot for the travellers and the locals as well, many art students ,teachers are drawing , some kindergarten kids playing , some people having picnic and some having sun bath, ext . there’s also some ducks and turtles in the small pond, such lovely park .
The beauty of this historic place is you can simply walk in and enjoy the grounds. Or you can dig into the history of the structures, the area, the city, by visiting the pay portions. We had a guide walk us through a few years ago as part of a Milan walking tour and there was plenty to learn about and enjoy. Keep an eye out for the resident cats usually in the moats.
Perfect place with loads of public open space for you and your friends to chill. Visit but also take a break here. Have a drink, eat a snack or just take a quick nap under the sun. Vast green space to sit on in the park but to avoid in a windy day due to the sand roads. Slow down! Enjoy a good day like locals.
It is nice castle close to downtown of milan. There is a large park as well where you can relax, take some food or do some activity or meet new people. Reccommended
If you are a tourist, you cant miss thi place. The entrance to the castle is free, you pay only for the museums. Behind the castle, the biggest park in Milan where Italians come too relax. In hot summer days enjoy the fountain with water refreshing all the surrounding.
Building itself is visually interesting, but not original. However, there are several rather nice museums inside. I spent there about three interesting hours for 5 Eur, which is very good value. The biggest exhibit is one of the last Michelangelo statues, which is housed in its own exposition, but there is way more to see in the castle. Definitely recommended if you have some time to spent while visiting Milano.
This is my favorite place in Milan. The museum is very nice, its a little bit sad that there are not that much of history present. Most of the inside collections are catholic images or figures, all very catholic as all Italy museums, for a castle i was expecting more medieval content instead theres only 1 room about war items like armors, guns, swords, etc.Besides that, its a very beautiful place with a lot of art and the best part are the big windows to different areas of the castle, you can take very nice pictures of the outside view of the castle. Also theres a musical instruments section that has different instrument types and its very impressive!Tip: if you are having +1 year stay in Milano you can buy the museum card that allows you to visit all the museums in Lombardia. You pay less than 50euros and have a 1 year membership for all the museums, this way you can save up a lot of money for each museum entrance cost. Today I just arrived and presented my museum card and they gave me the entrance ticket and nothing else.
Amazing partially restored castle with loads to do. Has like ten museums plus a shop, public toilets & a cafe. I only visited one of the museums but it had so much in it i was their for like three hours, for 10 euros thats bloody good value!! I also spent time in the massive courtyard taking pictures & checking out the various statues. Definetaly a day trip if your looking for one!!
Nice place for a walk. Didnt get to see the museums, maybe next time. One of the few places in Milan with information in English.
Free entrance in the yard and it also has several museums that can be visited. Plently of people went out for a walk when ee visited so it was pretty animated. Nice fountain at the entrance an the Sempione park on the other side.
I liked the castle a-lot. You can spend the whole day in the area, because there’s so much to see! Also if you walk 10 minutes from the big castle, you’II end up at the Arch of Peace. You will walk through a beautiful big park 🌳
BEAUTIFUL. You can be here the whole day. Literally a day trip to this beautiful castle. Nice museums inside. We loved every peace of art.A few meters from the castle you can visit the arco dell Pace.
This place is very beautiful either if you come in winter or in summer, this castle is enormous and definitely worth of visiting, entrance is free and its very close to town centre where you can find duomo di milano for example. Sforzesco is connected to very big and beautiful park with free toilets. Most of the time this places are full of tourists but i recommend to come and visit.
Its a castle with 6 museums inside it, all accessible for 3 euros (for studentsor 5 euros. If you dont wanna go inside the museums, you can still check the place out, the fountain in front of it, and the big beautiful installations outside. However if you got time, the museus are really worth the visit. There is a Michelangelo sculpture, ancient arts and weapons, the musical instruments museum, an Egyptian museum, and a few others to check. The bad thing is that most of the exhibitions only have texts in Italian, no translation for English.
A very nice castle and museum. There are many rooms, everybody will find something to like. You need to count with exhibition which takes at least 3 hours so if you hurry, you should check only items you are interested in. There is also a beautiful view from the top. If you take a bag with you, you can store it in a locker located downstairs (1 euro deposit - will be returned after you input the key back). After exhibition you can find a good place for rest outside. This place is also magical in the evening.
Beautiful place to visit in Milan! The castle outdoors are free to enter and the tickets are sold only if you would like to enter the castle. The place is massive and has huge park. The area offers so many potential spots for pictures - both travel and portraits. One thing to be aware of when you visit the spot (basically all famous spots in Milanis that there will be people with arm bands at the entrance and even indoors who try to tie those bands on you and demand money. I saw many of those guys at this castle. So be aware!Apart from that, this place is great to visit!
