Bibimbop in stone pots & other Korean standards served in a roomy, spare space.
Seoul Restaurant in New Haven
Description
Privilege
Small portions and very expensive
Took my wife yesterday to the restaurant, very expensive compare to other Korean food. The quantity of each dish is small. Me and my wife both got diarrhea afterwards.
MoreVery good👍 had lots of options and was authentic with a nice community.
That were so Good but weren’t excellent for us. btw some atmospheres and ambiance were so great, except prices.
MoreGive me the wrong check add extra 3 more $,and we only order 2 soups but wait for 1 hours:(
MoreBelieve it or not, I was a regular at this restaurant more than 25 years ago, even before google review was a thing. The place was great back then and popular in my social circles. Fast forward to a few days ago, I once again set foot in New Haven, this time with my family in tow. I was eager to refresh my memory of the fork-tender kalbi tang again. Not surprisingly, the couple running the place didnt look familiar to me-- its highly likely the place has changed hand (even multiple timessince I graduated from Yale 24 years ago. I am sad to report that the experience was quite negative-- The banchan tasted stale; he kalbi tang had only 3 tiny pieces of bone-in short rib; the rice in bibimbap was too moist. And the food was expensive for the portion and the quality-- we spent close to $100 (before tax/tipfor 3 entrees and 1 appetizer. My fond memory of Seoul is forever scarred. Sad.
MoreWe got there around 4:30 and had the place to ourselves. The couple waiting on our table was very attentive. I would have liked to see more descriptions of the dishes on the menu. The prices online did not reflect the prices at the restaurant. This was my first experience at a Korean restaurant
MoreTurned us away an hour before closing because they said they wouldn’t have enough time to clean up and close by the time we were finished.
MoreI went there and it was the best experience I’ve ever had. The owner and his wife where so nice and friendly, they talked to us and we felt very welcomed. We ordered the 떡볶이 and 물고기 it was amazing!! The wife makes everything by hand the 김치 was the best I’ve ever had!!! Would 100% recommend going there.
MoreWalked in over an hour before they close. Owner gave us an "X" with his arms and said no more food is being served. My friends and I are black, btw. .
MoreIf I could give 0 stars I would. We had a table of 4, my family and I called before going to this restaurant. we have never been here before but we were intrigued because we really love Asian food. We are black and my wifes cousins husband is white. upon entering the restaurant it was just my wife and I as we awaited our family members who were only 3 minutes away. The owner asked "Do we had a reservation" Before we can answer the owner said "No you do not you cannot eat here" and slammed the door on us there were only 4 tables occupied at the moment. Our family members arrived we were so frustrated we shared the story of what happened with them and asked my wifes cousins husband to try and see what they would say if he told them he had a party of 4. The owner told him they will seat him in 4-5 minutes.Long story short I do not recommend this place. I really hate to make anything about race and it may have been a coincidence or Im just being too nice. Its not right how we were treated we refused to eat there. Just know this was my familys experience from this place. Its sad that people still have to go though this in 2021.
MoreThe menu prices online DO NOT MATCH THE PRICES in the restaurant its more expensive, its also Very Strange how you have to enter the restaurant almost like it is some sort of "Secret Place" there wasnt any sauce served with our meal like it was supposed to be I still dont understand what the "House sauce" is or was. So it kind of lacked flavor, and we didnt expect that at all, they said didnt serve sauce with their meals. So they just gave us Soy sauce and said thats all they have. It was kind of weird but different
MoreAbsolutely terrible service. Placed an order for pick up, got there 5 mins after pick up time and had to wait an additional 15 mins. Came home and I was missing 2 dishes. Called to alert the staff and the person I spoke to was laughing about how they probably sent it off with someone else unknowingly. Delicious food, terrible service.
MorePlace is clean and nice but does not have most of the list in the menu. Frustrating not able to eat want you want. You can only eat what they have.
MoreWe went to this restaurant three times. For the first time, we were told that the restaurant were to close and we even could not get in. However, we noticed there were some customers eating in the restaurant and hence we believed we could dine in next time. We went to the restaurant in next day’s afternoon, and was told that they didn’t accept dine in. Today, we called the restaurant before we went, and was told we could dine in. Finally we got into the restaurant and sat down. However, we could not order Korean food of our interests, while there was no information in the menu, and we were informed that only when we were ready to order. And we decided to order something else, and again, when we were to order, they told us they didn’t serve what we wanted. All experiences together seem a denial of service, and I don’t know why. I am very frustrated and disappointed for these three visits.
MoreThe food was amazing. I highly recommend the pork bulgogi. I would say 12 stars if I could. Everything was perfect. I wish I was exaggerating but I’m not.
MoreIf I could give 10 stars I would. The food was great the atmosphere was nice as well and the service was even better! Beware you need to make a reservation before going!! Enjoy!! We sure will be enjoying again!
MoreThis place is amazing. With the first bite I was wondering why I havent been here yet. The owners are very friendly, the food is really incredible.
MoreAte here once and will not be coming back!Pros:They have dine-in available and their own free small parking lot. Service was okay, the waiter was polite (but does not speak English very well at all).Cons:Food was very expensive and also tasted below average. The $17 seafood tofu soup tasted a little weird (almost sour?and the tofu was very smashed up. The $16 "beef" bibimbap was essentially some veggies, rice, and a small dollop of smashed up beef paste. The four side dishes (aka banchanthat was brought out consisted of kimchi, broccoli, sweet beans, and pickled veggies. They were just a-okay, nothing great/just average. Overall, way too expensive and the quality and flavor of the food definitely did not justify the price. Honestly, even if the price was affordable, the food just isnt good enough for us to come back ever again. My husband and I left here feeling very dissatisfied.
MoreThe food and service was great. My only problem was, I wanted to do hot pot and instead of bringing all the fixings and the pot out they put everything into the pot themselves and brought the finished soup to us. It was a great let down.
MoreVery clean and convenient place. They provide big meals and for reasonable prices. We enjoyed the meals a lot and the waiters were very personal and chatty. Highly recommended.
MoreWe love eating out. Last night we found this superb place which we didn’t know before. We enjoyed a beautiful time there with superb dishes and a nice stuff and a distinguished chef. We put this venue in our phone list and we will no doubt return very soon. Highly recommended.
MoreAuthentic Korean food with a mom-and-pop ambience. Quality is a top priority; don’t be surprised to find many items on the menu unavailable due to lack of ingredients. Having said that, every dish I have sampled has been top-notch. It is a bit pricey, and the portion sizes could be slightly larger, but these gripes aren’t enough to downgrade to less than a 5 star review.
MoreAuthentic Korean cuisine. We were alone for awhile on a quiet Saturday for a late lunch. The food was promptly served. The kimchi pajun wasnt of the style we expected. It refers to many things, so we should have asked. Their version was more of a veggie pancake with onions and other veggies, with less kimchi. The rice in the stone pot bibimbap was nicely lightly burnt, giving it the classic crunchy texture contrasting with the soft veggies. The house special kalbi was marinated perfectly. The boneless beef short ribs was tender and delicious. All in all a very pleasant lunch in a quiet atmosphere.
MoreI’ve stayed in actual Korea-town in downtown LA... Seoul restaurant in New Haven tops all those restaurants I’ve been to in LA! The service is amazing and I had the Bulgogi, it came with a lot of meat and I loved every bite. Plus the restaurant has their own parking lot. Unlike most other places in New haven where it may be difficult to find street parking.
Morefood was ok but not enough quantity for the price. the soups seems like frozen food just reheated. my family ordered seafood tofu soup but it had no seafood in it and the tofu was very crushed. i ordered spicy rice cakes and there were like not alot of rice cakes. overall it is a bit eh.
MoreAfter seeing the reviews, I was sort of scared to go to the restaurant, but after eating there, I was pretty happy with what I got. Granted, the food portions were slightly small for the price, but the galbi was delicious. The owner and I had a great conversation while eating and I enjoyed the company. Overall, I’d recommend to my friends.
MoreThe worst Kalbi I have ever stated. As you can see on the pictures I took, I couldnt even finish my meal. The meat was so chewy, smell gross, flavor was awful. I love to support local business but this place is not even worth to be open to serve bad low quality food for customers, it is not even that cheap. I complained to the man, owner, and all he could answer me back was " Oh, okay". I am sorry but this is too disgusting, they dont deserve my 1 star.
MoreThe food was good. I tried the Kalbi Tang aka beef rips soup, the Seafood pancake, and the tofu soup. The experience was pretty authentic. One the the biggest cons was the limited choices of dishes.
Morejust ordered for delivery, delicious tteokbokki and good one person portion, will definitelly order again. Loved the dumplings too, not too greasy as other ive eaten before.
MoreThe staff were nice & great with explaining anything we had questions about in reference to the menu. Food was delicious. Inside was well kept with many others eating there when we visited. A recommended try if interested.
MoreThe food was delicious and the server was really friendly. I loved the bibimbap served in an extremely hot stone pot. My dish was sizzling almost the entire time it took me to eat. My only qualm was the service was a bit slow, there was only one man working the front, so Im not sure if they were short staffed that night, or if its just normally slow.
MoreI stayed in Korea for 4 months and I was going through withdrawals for authentic korean food. I found this place and went with my parents who have never tried korean food. This place was absolutely fantastic!! My parents loved the food and we all could not stop eating. Sunny the chef and owner was incredibly attentive and accommodating. She made the experience even more superb. The food was out of this world and I will definitly be going back again and again!!
MoreThird time I have been here. The staff is friendly and the food is authentic and good. It is a little on the quiet side but I have only been here for lunch. If you like korean food this place is great.
MoreThe owner was really nice to me and my friends, she had a very loving vibe and helped us with picking out our dishes. The food was also really good. That was some of the best bibimbap Ive ever had 😩😩💕💕
MoreI asked for some sugar with my tea and the waiter refused to give me any. I had to get up and get it myself. The food was good, but we were served cold broccoli, which I don’t understand. Website looked nice, but the menus had tape over it. Won’t be coming back.
MoreThis food is good. Ordered rice and beef source. I can’t even recall the name of my order but it taste real good. The lady that waited on us was very pleasant and responsive. Our order didn’t take up to 10mins and I was immensely please cause I was famished. There’s reserve parking for the customers of Soul Restaurant. There’s also a accessible entrance.
MoreThis is an authentic Korean restaurant. When you are in the mood for really good Korean food, then this is the place for you. Very friendly servers and the food is like the way your grandma use to make it-simple, but delicious. When I feel lazy to cook, I bring my children here.
MoreFood is excellent,.service not so much. we waited 25 minutes before getting someone our table. Do not go here on starving mode, you have to wait for a while.
MoreAmazing taste of Korean Food and culture. The owner server and cook, kindly greeted us and walked us through the menu. She was so sweet and happy to help. The food was really great aswell. The portions are a bit on the bigger size so we had left overs. I will definitely be back.
MoreBy far my favorite Korean place around! However it seems like everytime I go there, the restaurant is closed for a private party or something. They need to get better at turning off the open sign, and notifying their customers of temporary changes to their hours.
MoreBit slow on service, food is decent. Lots of extra charge. But nice service.
A Black chick and a Puerto Rican chick walk in, on a Sunday, with the intent of enjoying some authentic Korean food. We entered into an empty dining room, we requested to sit at the bar, but instead we were ushered to a table. We were brought menus, where half the items were taped over. We had to ASK for our own waters, which were brought to us with no ice and no straws. When we requested straws, they were brought to us, unwrapped, and put on the table. At that moment we both realized we were not going to be happy with the service, the meal, or the atmosphere. We proceeded to gather our belongings and happily walked out and down the street to Soul de Cuba where all was wonderful and we lived happily ever after.
MoreIt seems like the only option for Korean food in New Haven. We stopped by for a late lunch. Their menu is pretty limited but I would say they have the standard Korean fare. We ordered the kalbi tang and the kimchi jigae. Kalbi tang: the broth is a slight brown which is different than the normal clear soup you would find. Also it was a bit salty but still tasty. The kalbi was also tender but it was a very small amount for the price point. Kimchi jigae: it tasted pretty good but was a little thick. Overall the meal was good though. The people working there were friendly and gave us extra banchans.
MorePricing I dont believe matches the food. The food seemed slow to arrive and yet the waiter seemed by quick. It was just an odd contrast. I dont think the experience was bad, rather maybe that Im just not a fan of Korean food? Will need to have more to verify. It was worth the try though.
MoreFood was adequate but not for the price. I only ordered codfish appetizers and teriyaki chicken. Hard to screw up sautéed chicken and veggies in a sweet sauce with some rice; it was tasty enough and served nice and hot. The batter on the codfish was almost all egg. I have no context as Ive never gotten battered codfish anywhere before, but the scrambled eggs quality didnt work for me. Nice staff and excellent service. Quiet restaurant to talk in on a Saturday night, which was a plus. Still, there are better quality dinners for cheaper in New Haven.
MoreIf you had ever eaten at a Korean Restaurant in the past, this place will surely disappoint you. Its nothing like I had ever experienced befire at a Korean Restaurant (In a bad way). I can honestly say it was the worst Korean Restaurant I had ever been to in my life. Mabe its the best they have to offer in this town (So sorry). We ordered 2 servings of galbi and instead of cooking it at our table as advertised on the menu, they came out precooked on hot plates. The meat was not even galbi. It was some tasteless piece of leather slathered in some soy sauce. I have been eating galbi all my life and this meat was not galbi. And not cheap either. We got like 7 tiny 2x1 inch pieces, less than a quarter inch thick on each plate. Whopping 14 pieces for like $49. I didnt want to write such bad reviews on a fellow Korean, but I feel that people should be aware of what they are getting into. We came from out of town and if we knew beforehand How bad this place was, we would have never gone there in the first place. I hope this review helps other to avoid our mistake.
MoreMy experience with this restaurant is a Negative 5stars. Someone in that restaurant allowed 5 different transactions on my bank account in one day. Totaling over 1000.00 dollars . Someone at that restaurant is crooked and probably works there. How do you allow 5 transactions occur in one day at the same restaurant? I live in Pennsylvania.DONT USE YOUR CREDIT HERE. THEY MAY STEAL YOUR IDENTITY ALSO.
MoreFoods were excellent considering that it is located in the city where not many Koreans live. I liked bibimbap and tukbokki a lot. Kalbi-tang was just average though. They have their own parking lots.
MoreVery nice little korean restaurant. People were very friendly, the food was really good (if not the best Korean on the continent, certainly a very tasty placewith a classical north american korean menu, the place is not modern fashion, but its really confrotable. Price is totally normal, 30$ for 2 on a dinner, I find its nice. Kimchi was awesome!
