Budapest, Apród u. 1-3, 1013 Hungary, Budapest
Collections of Hungarian medical & pharmaceutical items dating right back to prehistoric times.
Closed until March 2023
Small special niche museum for those interested in medicine and history of medicine. I liked the historical devices like X-ray etc. English text translations are available. Special section on tuberculosis far too small, though the videos were good. Visiting time maximum 1 hour. Friendly reception by staff.
If you are interested in medicine, you must visit this museum
The exhibits are kinda random to me but there are some that are really interesting
We visited the ww1 exhibition. Booking a guided tour is advisable but the exhibition is enjoyable without.
Nicely prepared museum. Very interesting piece on show. Staff is quite nice to visitors.
Amazing place, good price and we were able to see 2 expositions.
Fascinating
A small museum, full of medical curiosities. Some of the displays were in Hungarian only, which made understanding the content somewhat difficult. Worth a visit.
Small but very nice museum, with medical history and related artifacts. Thank you, sir, for telling us their stories! The most significant one belongs to Semmelweis: a medic who studied in Vienna and made a connection between the high rate of deaths and doctors protocol, leading to the use of disinfectants before operating.
This place has a lot of potential, there are a lot of cool things to see but the place is lacking explanations, descriptions and more text to understand and get more immersed in what we see. Also the Arabic medicine was almost non-existent while they were very advanced for a time. These are probably because the museum might not be well funded enough, it looks like there was an initial investment when it opened and since then it has been mostly just maintained. It is still worth it to go and see.
Interesting and cheap (3euros)One of the most interesting museum in Budapest. And very nice workers
A bit macabre, definitely novel and fascinating! A smaller museum, with some quality exhibits. I was alone so it felt a little bit scary imagining the number of people who went under the knife with those tools. Interesting to stop by.
Amazing historical review.... Should be seen by everyone not only by health care professionals! Hand disinfection still has a major preventive role in our age...
Very much appreciated all the English labels throughout the whole exhibit with very few small exceptions. The staff was ready to answer and questions and spoke English very well. The price is very fair for what the museum offers. The permanent exhibition has a very diverse collection of older medical and pharmaceutical artefacts as well as modern ones. It also presents dr. Semmelweiss life and struggle to make medical practitioners wash and disinfect their hands before touching birthing women, in order to reduce mortality among them. This was a man sincerely interested in saving womens lives in an era where womens welfare was not a priority. He was ahead of his time and we owe him a lot for pioneering in this issue. Downstairs, at the temporary exhibition we were shown a documentary about him and his struggle. It has English subtitles. Be ready to spend 52 minutes for this. It may seem long, but it was totally worth it.I think we spent about 2.5 hours in there, as we took our time reading and watching all the items and the movie.
Historical Medical Museum, containing a wealth of information and antique medical equipment
One of the best museums in the city! Had a lovely guide who explained everything perfectly in english. Would recommend anyone to visit.
Its a must see. A fantastic exhibition, extremly friendly Staff. Loved it!
You may learn about the medicine history and see some old stuff of dentistry and anatomy. Not a big deal but worth the bucks
It was perfect. Stella was there
Small collection focused in celebrating famous hungarian doctors with antropological medical devices from exotic cultures. The exhibition lacks a clear discourse in terms of history of science and some of the information pannels are just in hungarian, a language not so easy to decypher
An amazing WWI exposition. Please go there as u will enjoy everything
Also English friendly museum with a lot of exciting and interesting things to see.
Not worth
Very interesting but there was not enough info available on the displays, and for some items, none in English.
Enlightening.
Poor and too small.. a must only for doctors 😂
We only had Euros and dollars so they let us in for free. All the surgical instruments make you wonder how much it hurt to see a doctor a long time ago.
A museum covering almost the entire medical history and digging deeper into Mr Semmelweis and the importance of hygiene.
Very nice insight into Medical history, some more english translation would be nice here and there
Very cool!
It is beautiful
Brilliant and disturbing look at the evolution of medicine, and international influences, in the office of a man who had a huge influence in improving obstetrics.
As a nurse it was very interesting for me to learn about the history of sanitizing and medicine in general
Ok
Very informative.
For anyone with a keen interest in medicine this is a good place to spend an hour or two. Not particularly interesting for anyone else, but very reasonable entrance fee.
Plenty to look at and read, however considering Semmelweis is the biggest Medical university and research centre in Hungary, i would have expected it to be much larger.
Interesting small museum about the history of medicine
Its allright, lots of creepy instruments, you ge through the whole thing in 30min. Theycharge extra if u want to take photos of film.
At the time there was a WWI theme...
Small place, interesting but not very impressive.
Several interesting exhibits, but nothing special. Lacks explanations.
Small museum with some interesting facts. Discount for students
Cheap, but not very interesting, doesnt put Semmelweiss life in much context, or give much background, exhibits are ok, some old medical instruments etc
Very unfriendly stuff / expensive
Its interesting, but if you want a really good medical museum check out the Hospital in the Rock.
No idea as it was closed, Wednesday.
Loved it!
Cant be sure how good it was as it is shut on a Monday! Our last day in Budapest!
