National Road Manuel Antonio, km 5 In front of Restaurant "El Avion, Provincia de Puntarenas, Quepos, 60601, Costa Rica, Puntarenas
Perched on a hilltop and surrounded by a lush garden, this casual hostel with Pacific Ocean views is a 13-minute walk from Espadilla Beach and 3 km from Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio.Streamlined 4- to 12-bed dorms feature free Wi-Fi and linens, as well as bunk beds, lockers, sitting areas and shared bathrooms. All have ceiling fans. Private rooms are available, some with balconies, ocean views and/or private facilities.Amenities include a restaurant, and an outdoor pool with an adjacent bar, plus a communal kitchen and a yoga deck.
Selina hotels in costa rica differ a lot. From people but also on service. The value for price paid is bad. Other hotels in the same area might be a better stay.I found the staff not being as open as in other Selina hotels. The food is ok. Nothing special.I would not book it for a second time.
Just other overrated selina hotel, there’s not accesible place, if you see there’s stairs (to many for all roomsand they even don’t have bellboys to help you with your luggage. And if is raining no roof to go restaurant or common areas. My advise go other places around much better.
I do not recommend Selina in Manuel Antonio.Positive:- The sleeping room was comfortableNegative:- Check in is usually at 3 pm. We needed to wait one hour until we got our private room.- When checking the staff didn’t showed us the area (for example cinema, kitchen, yoga place etc.)- We had no towels in the room although they should be included for a private room. Finally we received the towels after asking 3 times.- Foot mat and shower curtain were missing in the bathroom. Because of the shower it was impossible to shower without getting the whole bathroom wet.- We registered at the reception for pilates on tuesday morning at 8pm, but suddenly no instructur was there. After waiting for 15min we gave up and left. Other 5 people were also waiting for the pilates instructur.- The food was generally good. But we had hair in our food! To be fair - we told the staff and they offered us a new plate. To conclude, our stay in Selina Manuel Antonio was not so nice and also not worth the price.
Beautiful property with several pools and various activities. Although it was relatively quiet during my stay, the activities provided made it easy to meet people. The staff were very friendly, especially Yanier at the tours desk who was very helpful with booking both a national park tour and my private shuttle to my onward destination.
I’ve been to a few Selina’s and this one has to be the worst one to day. The front desk is pretty disorganized and unhelpful. They charge for towels and do not provide dryers. The food and drinks are mediocre at best. Other Selina’s are much better organized and the rooms are better supplies: hair dryers, towels, soap, conditioned and shampoo. For the price you are paying at a hostel, it seems to be lacking a lot.
Selina’s openly discriminated against my Costa Rican friend and did not allow him to stay with his wife and 3 month old daughter at this location. He made a reservation online and called to confirm this reservation before arriving, and then he is told in person that they cannot accommodate him and his family. When the receptionist is confronted by my friend on why this has come to be, the receptionist states that there are “politics” that she is not able to comment on.Such open discrimination is absolutely appalling, and I hope Selina’s rectify’s this immediately.Refusing service to ANYONE, let alone locals is despicable.
Nice facilities, although the wifi didn’t reach my room and we had frequent electricity outages. The acommodation and the restaurant vere very expensive for what you’re getting, service often slow and forgot me and made mistakes a handful of times during only a few days. Not many places to hang out under a shade, and not a hammock in sight.
Great place to stay. So close to MA National Park
Lovely staff ! Hostel was huge with a variety of rooms. Be prepared for steps tho ! The 3 pools were great and right across the street is a restaurant with a lovely view of the sunset. Yummy breakfast too 🤤🧇🍌🍓
This has been my favorite Selina experience! The staff here was all so friendly and it was so easy to meet other travelers through all of the fun events that they hosted. Loved the yoga classes, jewelry making, and tour to the National Park. This whole city had an incredible vibe. Grateful for everyone that I met along the way!
Nice facilities and seems like it could have a good vibe. My experience wasn’t great - it was pretty quiet and difficult to meet people. You are not allowed to have your own alcohol or food in the lower or upper parts of the common areas - only by the pool or a kitchen that smells. Pretty ridiculous rule considering we pay a pretty penny for this place and that it is advertised as a “hostel”. Our room was nice and bed was comfortable. However if you can, avoid room 300. High traffic area, can hear the music all night long, and the curtains hardly block the lights that are set right outside the room for the walk way. Staff for the most part are friendly. Disappointing experience for a Selina, but again, beautiful grounds and rooms further down into the grounds are better.
The nicest host ever, extremely friendly life of the party and brought everyone together in the hostel an experience I will never forget
I stayed in 4 Selinas in Costa Rica and this ranked third for me. Multiple pools is nice, and it’s a pretty good location with lots of restaurants nearby. It’s really pretty with great views. Getting to the beach is not an easy walk at all, but the bus is super easy and cheap. There are a million stairs at this Selina, so be prepared for that. Standard room was one of the smaller ones and could have been cleaner. Also, my door wasn’t sealed at all so lizards and bugs galore got in. Some of the staff were quite rude and there’s nowhere for you to hang out and eat your own food- literally got kicked out of one area eating a croissant from somewhere else while I was waiting for a tour. The kitchen area is disgusting so you wouldn’t want to eat in there at all. Also, out of the four Selinas I stayed in, this was the only one that pushed tours down your throat constantly. They texted me, asked me at Check-In, and even gave their sales pitch at the welcome drink. And don’t make it easy to cancel if you need to.
The view from our room was great, the room itself was nothing special although it had plenty of space. The staff was also friendly and very helpful, giving us a few local tips.
This place is amazing! 3 pools, Wellness lessons open to public and really cheap for the area (pole dance, Pilates, yoga and hiitand lots of parties and events.I was amazed by the Brunch menu and the cowork space!
We paid a hefty price (600 USD/3 nightsfor a private suite only to be greeted with subpar service at the front desk, a terribly uncomfortable bed, and a dirty shower that didn’t work well. There was not a single towel in the room and we needed to wait hours to receive them.We cancelled our stay 2 nights in because this entirely Selina has just been an unpleasant experience. You’re better off spending your $ elsewhere. The view is nice I guess but you can get that anywhere in Manuel Antonio.
Great location! Very close to the upper-part of Manuel Antonio with many great restaurants and other features within easily attainable walking distance. Security is present as well, but the entire area is safe as can be for travelers.
Fantastic! Location, amenities, staff all great. I cant say enough for the Selina chain of hostels that serve backpackers, families and couples. Restaurant and bar are good. The welcome event is a nice short intro.
I had such a positive experience here. My friend and I stayed in a standard room for two weeks, and the room had everything we needed. Air conditioning was nice, too. The co-work space here is incredible and I never had any problems with the Wi-Fi. The vibes are immaculate, and I cannot say enough good things about all the wonderful people I met, which would not have been possible without such friendly staff and so many things to do every day. Food is fantastic. The communal kitchen is pretty good, the wellness classes are great, and there’s always live music or DJs every night. The beach is at the end of a steep road, but the local bus runs frequently and is a great way to get back if you want to save the trip up. Good restaurants nearby. 3 pools to choose from. Would totally recommend staying here if you’re looking for a good place to work but also a good place to have fun and meet nice people.
Really enjoyed my stay here. I want to send my thanks for all the staff who has been super friendly and helpful to me.Truly one of the best Selina I have visited. Very nice property with a beautiful ocean view rooftop and park jungle view room. I enjoyed everyday wake up to the jungle. Room is spacey. Yoga deck is amazing! And the cowork office is amazing! They also did a very good job on arranging activities and bringing everyone together. You would never get bored here. Will come back!
Amazing place, great rooms, 3 pools and a wellness deck! Several restaurants, a party every night and tons of activities to be booked through reception. They dont allow outside drinks or food but turned every area into a restaurant or bar, leaving nowhere to hangout/eat with fellow travellers. Removing what makes a hostel a hostel will be detrimental to the ultimate vibe of the place and why people chose Selina as a CoWorking space.
Stayed in a private room. It was comfortable and the AC worked well. WiFi wasn’t the best. Breakfast was good but it’s better value for money if you go across the road to the plane.Originally a 2 star review - we booked 4 nights, on the second day our key card stopped working, when we asked reception they said it was because we were moving room the next day with no further explanation. When we asked again in the morning they said it was because our room was undergoing maintenance; we should of been informed about this when booking and the ‘carry on’ ate into our day. The room we moved to was in much worse condition. We didn’t really get anywhere when complaining to reception (they didn’t really care), but, when we informed Selina head office they apologized, appropriately compensated us and investigated the issue.
I stayed here for two weeks, and have mixed feelings. Overall, location is amazing, and the vibe is a nice mix of co-working professionals and vacationers. However, the staff is very disorganized and slow, and the co-working space is often overcrowded. They just opened a second restaurant at the property, which made it difficult find space to hang out and eat food that youve cooked. The bed wasnt comfortable, nor were pillows. But, there are three nice pools! Bathrooms are never crowded. Yoga deck is gorgeous. AC in the rooms. Kitchen is decent, and they have little assets like a free book exchange and a chess board to borrow. Bus stop (which is 320 colones, aka $0.50is right in front of the building, and it heads to Quepos or the beach very frequently.
This is the place to stay if you want to have fun. They had a DJ over the weekend, some organized events, and a welcoming atmosphere. Things wrapped up around 10:30pm. The internet was fast and reliable if you’re working remotely, with a dedicated coworking space. My room over looked the jungle, was pretty surreal. The beach isn’t close by, but the bus that passes by every 20 min is quite cheap (60 cents). I’d recommend staying here if you’re looking to meet people and have a good time.
Beautiful pools and the best staff ever. The nachos are soooo good and huge! Quite expensive stay but worth it and we got our room upgraded for free yay
Wonderful community vibe, excellent facilities with top notch internet connection for those who need to work while travelling.Life music, yoga classes and much more!
Excellent posh hostel in a great location in Manuel Antonio area. Stayed here for 3 nights in the junior suite.ProsLocationLarge roomGood serviceGood breakfast optionsConsHot water was not working on the first day but quickly fixedThanks to the lady at reception who also helped us with a rice bag for a wet phone!
Food is good and staff tends to be friendly. Rooms are good but quite expensive. I was quite displeased due to the fact that one waitress in a very rude tone suggested that I couldn’t afford one more coffee; I felt it was due to the fact that I am a local.
We stayed in a private room for 3 nights with breakfast included...pros: -Much bigger than you think, 3 pools and lots of little white villas-The restaurant and bar had good food and drinks at a reasonable price-4 breakfast choices for the included package so you dont get bored-The nearest beach is gorgeous! with monkeys everywhere in the trees-They had one person dedicated to booking tours for you. We did the Manuel Antonio national park tour and the chocolate/coffee tour and both were great-The room key is a bracelet you get at check inCons: -All of the pool lounge chairs need to be replaced-Its a 10 min walk to the beach on a VERY steep hill-The communal kitchen is run downWhile we were there in the off season there were renovations going on, so Im sure its only getting better. Overall, I would recommend Selina Manuel Antonio
Rafa, Marie and Tania went above and beyond to help me. The included breakfast was delicious and fulfilling. The food at the hostel was good and they had vegan options. They have three pools and activities ever night (dj, karaoke night, rooftop dj etc ). They help you book tours, taxis, and shuttle buses to the san jose airport. The rooms were clean. They have private rooms, suites and dorms available so you can enjoy with any budget. They are cross the street from the legendary El Avion restaurants with amazing views. They are in front of a local bus stop so you can take the bus to the beach/Manuel Antonio Park/bus terminal for only 335 colones. I loved my stay there. The hostel team were amazing, helpful and worked really hard to make things amazing.
I was actually expecting a lot better after all the recommendations but was a little disappointed. The place was very nice and huge, great facilities, pools, cinema, yoga deck etc, but the dorm room was not as good as I expected. The shower was quite dirty, and the shower head was half broken. It was super hot in the room even with the air conditioning, which stopped working suddenly until someone came to fix it. Service was pretty ok but I was supposed to check in at 3 pm, and my room / bed wasn’t ready until 4 or 5 pm (nevertheless I insisted of coming in on time because I was very uncomfortable to stay outside all day). The rooftop was amazing but not rain proof and everything got wet. Also yoga and reiki class which was supposed to be ended up to be a very slow flow class (the teacher was great but not what I signed up for). All and all wasn’t so bed but also not so Greta either. Hope in other locations the dorms are better.
I stayed at Selina Manuel Antonio for a month and everything was excellent. All of the staff were so helpful - especially Rafa who helped us plan excursions, transportation and gave us local recs. The cleaning staff were amazing and Adriana always did an amazing job! 10/10 recommend
This hostel was more than a hostel during my stay, it was like a second home! The location in Manuel António is perfect, the hostel is beautiful, with incredible facilities and ideal for meeting new people (especially for solo travellers)! All the attention to the customer is to be commended but a special thank you to Rafa for his attention to the customer, detail, affection and for recommending the best tours! He was tireless and made my stay unforgettable!
This location is absolutely breathtaking!! The Cowork has an amazing view and there was always space. I stayed for about 3 weeks and the staff were all so helpful and accommodating. Rafa helped us book all of the tours and excursions we did and went above and beyond in helping us with any questions we had about getting to other locations or about recommendations around. The property is very spread out and spacious, three pools was a plus!!
Bad experience, the place looks and feels like an abandoned hotel that was repurposed, trying to make it a hip place. On top of the lacking facilities, the place was also quite filthy, there were bugs all over the bathroom and the remote of the AC looked like it would stick to a wall. Overhyped and overrated, just like most selina’s. We had amazing experiences in other hostels in Costa Rica!
My one week stay at Selina in Manuel Antonio was a complete success. The hostel is not convincing because of its size (largest Selina in 🇨🇷), its 3 pools, the great roof terrace, or the constantly changing evening events. No, the hostel convinces with the quality of its staff.I travel alone and have thus met many changing guests in the hostel.During my week in Manuel Antonio I took the staff of the hostel especially to my heart!Whether it was about work or about the time out afterwards, the staff always devoted themselves to the guests wishes with heart and soul. No matter whether it was a duet at the karaoke evening or a visit to the beach that failed due to theft. I was always actively supported. The very special guests, who feel at home in the hostels own jungle, also shared the hammock, or the pool lounger with me from time to time.So I was allowed to look at monkeys, iguanas, toads, frogs, ants, birds, grasshoppers, sloths, bats, crabs and also the agouti up close. All completely harmless animals, except for the sloth, yes you heard right. The sloth can quickly become "Freddy Kruger" in defense. Thanks for the good time and see you next time!
The pictures of the place are quite generous as is the 4-Star rating. The walls to the rooms are paper thin and the bed makes a futon seem comfortable. Wish I could say it was inexpensive.
$5 for 8 hours or $10 for 16 hours of coworking. Gorgeous grounds and views, good vibes. Incredible quesadilla and chicken fingers, chicken soup tasted worse than out of a can. Great selection of to-go drinks & snacks. Staff was younger & weren’t always professional, which wasn’t a problem for us. Everyone was chill and helpful.
10 flights of stairs to get to our room (no joke), mold on the ceiling of our bathroom, moisture problem in the whole room, water on the floor from who knows where. Beautiful landscaping but perhaps they are paying more attention to the yoga and pole classes, then the upkeep of the rooms. We were there for 2 nights and there was no cleaning, no fresh towels, and no trash pickup.
I had a great time staying at this beautiful place surrounded by wildlife (monkeys, iguanas & coatis etc.). There is such a good vibe at this place and the staff are all friendly and helpful. Over the weekends they host solid parties with DJs, and I had the chance to play at one of them. Id like to also thank Megan for looking after me while I was playing there!
Beautiful hotel nestled in the jungle on a hill above the ocean. Lovely atmosphere with pools, bar, and patios with live music on weekends. For the travelling workers, there is a great coworking area with solid internet connection. The staff are all friendly and welcoming.
Great time ,had a private casita overlooking the pool on the edge of the jungle. Waking in the morning to the sounds of toucans, howler monkeys and macaws, enjoying a cup of coffee on the balcony with no stress and pure relaxation. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was accommodating, the entertainment was fun because of the event coordinator slash all around go to person, her name is Meg, she will help you with places to go and places to see. Thank you Meg you were awesome.
Outstanding! The stay in Selina Manuel Antonio was incredible! I made a reservation for one month and did not want to part. Everything was super amazing, all the staff make you feel very comfortable and part of the family. Everyone is extremely professional yet super friendly. The location is just right, just 2 km away from the beach but also with 3 beautiful pools. Activities, food and clean service is wonderful. Special thanks to Meg and Elodie who are always on top of everything and hear you as customer in order to improve your experience in the location.
We had an amazing night with a live show of a multiphasic artist: he was not only a Mime, but a juggler and a Balance board pro! People sits on their social bubbles and the health protocols were a must. The Staff were very kind, including the Lovely Meg, that kept an eye over the last clients standing at the bar that night. Also Adrian, at the front desk! I got confused about our reservation and he was very patient and helpful with that!Very recommend to chill and enjoy the nature in the place. Two swimming pool available! Just be careful with the steps, it gets slippery when rains...
I have been here for one night and I still have 3 to do and it is by far the best hostel i have been to! The staff is friendly, the dorms are clean, the location is perfect, close to a lot of attractions/ restaurants! The view from the yoga deck is incredible! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to meet people and on a small budget!
Having just stayed at the La Fortuna location, I didnt realize this one was much more a party hostel. They turned the restaurant area into a club and were bumping very loud music until late. Unfortunately it was one beat repeated for several hours, and it was so loud that even with ear plugs the vibrations still disturbed my sleep. The floors in my dorm room had been mopped and still werent dry the next morning, they were still so wet you need flip flops to walk to the toilet. Those complaints out of the way, the hostel is a great location close to the park and across from the bus stop. I really like the pod style beds with storage for your stuff. If you have difficulty with stairs or carrying luggage up and down 8 flights I wouldnt recommend this place. Its all stairs, and you have to climb stairs to get anywhere on the property making luggage a real pain to move around. Has a great pool though and the shower was good, I was able to take my first proper shower in a week. Several restaurants within walking distance and you can park on site if youre driving. All around a decent spot to stay for a few nights.
Good, very corporate feeling hostel. It feels like it was a resort before, with pools. The yoga deck is cool but I didn’t love the yoga class I took there.. Mattresses are comfortable. The place seems to attract some oddballs.. Someone in our dorm went around moving people’s personal belongings and poured one person’s makeup on someone else’s clothing, so I suggest locking your things up if you stay in the dorm. Pretty good location. Expensive food and drinks, but Manuel Antonio in general is pricey. Service in the restaurant for breakfast was very slow— it took an hour for my eggs and toast breakfast to arrive.. so overall good, but wouldn’t give 5 stars.
Last month, me and my squad of over 50 people stayed at the Selina for our final debrief of a nine month trip. The Selina staff was amazing at communicating with us, booking both private rooms and dorms, working with our budget, and finding fun activities for us. They also allowed us to use a meeting space, and were always there to talk if we had any concerns. The Selina compound was incredibly beautiful, and oftentimes it felt like we were on a tour through the jungle just outside our rooms. The three pools were very nice and refreshing, and the beach was just a couple minutes bus ride away. Overall, we had an amazing experience, which is surprising considering the size of our group. Highly recommend checking them out.
Love this place! We had a private/ shared room. Our own bedroom with a shared bathroom right above the jungle pool. Nice facilities, bathroom was clean. Pools (yes, multiplewere great, very well taken care off. Food was fine. Nothing to crazy, smoothies were top notch though. 10/10 would recommend.
This is a really cool place to stay. I came with a friend and my 2 daughters. We expected an upgraded hostel-meets-hotel environment and got that plus a lot more. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and overlooked the jungle with beautiful pathways (and lots and lots of stepsmeandering throughout to get to the rooms and communal areas. The on-site restaurant was really convenient with decent albeit fresh tasting food (we loved the smoothies!). The breakfast buffet was good and well priced. I love that my vegan daughters could get full and had a nice array of choices when dining. As there were 4 in our group, we booked the 4 bunk-bed room w/private bath. It was clean and simple, just as advertised. I do wish theyd had a room to accommodate our group size b/c staying in a hostel room versus a hotel room means the services are not as optimal. The service and staff were very personable and attentive. When we first arrived (earlythere were no towels and they didnt become available until the following day. We are pretty easy going so we made do with air drying but I really appreciate that after checking back in a few times, the staff and manager took note of the fact theyd seen me ask repeatedly and created a solution so that we did get towels. As a kind gesture they waived the towel rental fee. I didnt ask; this was just a measure of their exceptional service and thoughtfulness. On another occasion, I asked a member to change the music at the pool because it was extra, EXTRA grimy....too much B*#@*es and N#$$@s for my comfort or the comfort of my daughters or the other family w/ child I saw there. It was really bad. Without hesitation, he went to put on some other, less degrading party music, allowing the vibe to stay up without insulting women and people of color...WIN#2 for the Staff at Selina! No place is perfect and every guest has different needs, etc. and I really appreciate how the Selina crew seem to take their goal of great service seriously. They really make that place special!Single travelers would feel just as comfortable as groups because the place is all about social connection. The evening activities were awesome and not cheesy and forced like some resorts Ive been too. People of diverse ages and backgrounds all seem to come there and all for fun and good times! The atmosphere is very laid back and open and I really love that. The yoga studio and classes were amazing!P.S. We really enjoyed dinner and sunset across the street at the restaurant with the airplane bar. Great food, service and views!
