Selina Cuenca in Azogues

Not ideal for coliving. I stayed there for 3 weeks this year on a co-living package, it was a comfortable stay but lacked any social element and proper management. Many things were missing.- Ghost hotel after 8 PM - the hotel is dark and feels dead, even on weekends.- The 2 hotel bars were closed the majority of the time, and the hotel lacked a social atmosphere. No places to order food in the hotel either.- The shared kitchen size is tiny and smelly, with old utincils. Most people staying there avoided it and complained about it.- The shared kitchen has bad ventilation and causes a smell all around when someone cooks.- Unknowledgeable front desk staff - didnt know the opening days or hours of the 2 bars in Selina (they were closed most of the time). Also werent helpful with bus __transport information to our next stop, which was another Selina, in Banos.- All the "free bicycles" had broken brakes - zero brakes, unsafe to use. I mentioned that to the front desk. They said they would repair them, for about a week, but didnt. They finally said we stopped offering bicycles and removed them all.- Super weird check-in: receptionist couldnt find our booking for a long time. She eventually found it and gave us the keys to a room with no external facing windows. We asked to change it as we didnt want to spend 3 weeks in a windowless room. After significant back and forth, we got a room with a window. Never saw the receptionist again, staff was always changing and felt temporary / understaffed.- The coffee in the co-working is always stale.- The co-working area is super noisy, with people having loud calls in the open.- The community WhatsApp group for events and updates was inactive and unhelpful. No response when I asked about booking tours, nor when I asked and their bar hours, even with tagging @ Selina management accounts- Overall felt undermanaged, with no proper manager. The community / experience manager quit during our stay.Its a nice hotel structure but severely lacks attention and care.Wouldnt repeat nor recommend it unless its completely updated.

Outstanding River views. Unique Rooms and suites. Great attention to service. Very clean. Occasionally has hot water issues. Highly recommend!

Spent a month at this Selina working remotely from the cowork space. The building is absolutely stunning, the standard rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious (make sure to ask for a room overlooking the river).Theres numerous restaurants and bars within walking distance and proximity to the riverwalk makes the location perfect.The cowork space is not too big, but comfortable with great chairs and desks, wifi was reliable.As for the nightlife, locals (mostly students from Cuenca Uniusually go out on Thursday till Saturday - the rest of the week is pretty quiet.I also recommend visiting the terrace for some traditional dishes, drinks and music - the Selina staff goes above and beyond.

This is one of the citys better Hotel/Hostels, they offer dorms and privates are situated right on the boardwalk and have a mainly english speaking staff.

I love this Selina as the environment is beautiful!! And so big. I had such a pleasant stay!

Great hostel. This hostel is an asking building, with self catering and a restaurant/bar. The staff are all extremely helpful. Best Selina I have been to. Highly recommended.

I have done a couple of Selinas in south America. This one seems to get old and is clearly overpriced for what it offers.A night in a dorm with breakfast is at 17$. The rooms are warm, some dont have a window, no natural light and no air. Breakfast is very limited (terrible service, I had to repeat 4 times to the waiter what breakfast i had chosenno possibility of refill of coffee, it costs extra for a second coffee, like often in Selinas.My first night, there was a party above my dorm. No one thought it was useful to tell me there was a party coming... the next day was the same thing... I changed rooms..Not a great experience this Selina.. although, great wifi, very nice co-working space and good kitchen (although couldnt find the cutlery which is a bit of problem...).

Hostel is beautiful and beds and sheets very comfortable. However our room had no window for fresh air. Shared bathrooms are a bit outdated, but clean. The staff isn’t very enthusiastic and personal. For us it felt quite distant and not very wecoming. They also provided us wrong information about the national park being closed (which was not true!).

This is probably one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and they have such good advice for things to do and places to eat in Cuenca! You get a welcome drink with your check in (which is so goodand there are lots of free exercise classes including HIIT and yoga in the morning. There’s a cool cinema to watch movies and it was a pretty quiet atmosphere, so my friend and i had a whole 10 bed mixed dorm to ourselves! It’s in a great location with a beautiful terrace and coworking space. Would 100000% stay here again. Thanks to everyone at Selina for such a wonderful stay :)

It was great at the beginning until they changed the price of my current reservation two weeks before it was supposed to finish, just one night to the other. Then the worst treatment I’ve got in my life, they didn’t even respect my reservation and forced me to check out one night before I was supposed to!! I even had to pack my stuff like in 10minutes because they were receiving another guest for the room I paid for! I am not going to any Selina in the world again

Totally grateful with all the help there, they even let us stay before and then after our reservation. This kind of details made me happy to be there. The place is simply amazing!

It all depends on your travel plans... if youre traveling relaxed, not looking for luxury and if tou dont mind being right in the middle of the party district, then Selina is your place to be! Its a cozy and charming hotel/hostel and the location is unbeatable

The vibe of the place is amazing! There is innovation in the interior spaces and the activities that are going on all the time make the whole experience so unique.

Had an incredibleeee time here the massages were actually magical and the staff was super friendly. Still in contact with some of them. Their music and hospitality made my whole trip to Cuenca <333

You can do so much better especially for the price. This place is tired. The shower will be cold unless you wait 15 minutes, which is a horrible waste of water. Many of the usual spaces like the work area is closed. Not particularly impressed with the staff.

It has a nice terrace for our language exchange meetings with coffee room service, located in downtown so its easy to find restaurants or bars near to Selina.

In my opinion, its one of the best hostels Ive been to in Ecuador. The hostel is a historical building located next to a river and with great views of the city. It has an ample co-working space and a lovely yoga room. The staff is super friendly and always willing to help.

This hotel has a very good location, and it’s cheap! We arrived at Cuenca in the end of May. And here was the first place for us to have a rest, to sleep and to have our first breakfast. We booked a Suite, but unfortunately, we only got Deluxe Room. I don’t want to complain, because our Spanish was zero at that time, maybe we didn’t say the right vocabulary. If you think the room looks like what you see from the website, you might be disappointed. The furniture is ok, but I was so upset because my leg was bitten by a flea, it’s so itchy that I had to go to the pharmacy on the second day. Public areas of the hotel are free to use, but the kitchen is not organized. Although I didn’t feel comfortable during those days, I gave 4/5 to the front-desk staff who can speak English and helpful.

We really enjoyed the hotel, love the design style, way prefer it to the Selina in Quito, everything was great until checkout where because we were literally 10 minutes late, the cleaning lady was very rude to us telling us that she will fine us and we were so happy up until that encounter, dont even mind a fine if necessary but it was really unnecessary the way she treated us and it really left me an unsatified customer, not treated us respectfully enough. We were very sweet to her saying we only need 10 minutes, I dont know why she had to go and ruin it for us. Only one 4/5 because I think you should train your staff that customer kindness and service is very important in this business.

This was one of the nicer hostels I have stayed at, it had a lot of character and offered a lot of activities even though most of them are on hold right now. The first night I got there the room that I was in was freezing cold so the next morning I asked for another one. They did that, and I had a much warmer location. Kudos to the front desk people for working with me, especially Victor and Rene.

Great location and as always cute decorations. I enjoyed their yoga/fitness room and view of the River.However, as a co-working space the WiFi was awful.Also, the service was a one ⭐️ . They couldn’t find our reservation so they charged us for an upgrade. Then a few minutes later they found our upgrade. Instead of reimbursing me the difference they gave us a bread and fruit breakfast the next morning. Their manager never responded to my WhatsApp About getting my $$ back and when I met her she had no excuse for never responding.

Really loved staying at Selina, its got a really great style, everything is very clean and all the staff are very kind. It is also in a super location as Calle Largo has lots of great places to eat on it and it is also very close to the main square (parque Calderón). All that being said it is also really well priced. We were super happy with our stay

My favorite spot to stay in Cuenca. With the river running behind it, a park nearby for my son to enjoy and a great cafe across the street with good food, drinks, coffee and pastries.

I called the hotel for a quote and was told $200/m for a long stay room and once at the hotel the staff bumped it up to $250 with a window and told me to come the next day to check it out once its available. That following day the price was further bumped to $285 and was shown a room in the highest floor with no window.The staff tried to convince me that it was an error from their previous employee, an error that apparently happened three times. Furthermore the staff struggled to recognize who the true hotel manager was and decided to bestow it on any other staff available or upon themselves.To summarize it ended up being a dishonest establishment with a record of misinformation and excuses. And I ended up reconsidering my enthusiastic stay and not accepting their room.The hotel does however deserve at least 1 star for their architecture and common area which is well decorated for those who plan to stay there. I stayed in this hotel years ago for a night and didnt seem to notice any irregularities. But its advised to stay vigilant for those who plan to stay at this hotel as long stay.

As always, the Selina staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The hostel is well-kept, clean, and very comfortable.However, as a coworking space, I couldnt recommend this location less. All available WiFi (guest & coworkingis so slow and inconsistent as to be unmanageable. If I didnt have a good connection with my phone hotspot, I would be unable to do my job.In addition, theres very little hot water. This is a relatively small issue (and one Ive noticed at multiple Selina locations), but it would be nice to occasionally have a shower that isnt ice cold.

Tiny rooms but a very nice vibe. The views here are some of the best in the city. Not much of a breakfast either. Definitely a backpackers hotel.

I generally feel the Selina chain is a 3.5. Always great common areas, centrally located, but the rooms themselves are at best avg.We were three friends and booked a private triple. Note privates at Selina are the same as their shared rooms so the quality of private rooms is NOT a better experience like in some hostels.I felt the tours were overall pricey for Ecuador. We did not do any. There’s a free city tour at 10am from Calderon park which we find out about and do instead of the $40 tour offered by the hostel. It was fantastic and I’d recommend. The front desk was very helpful though.

Its a really nice old house. Great location but not so clean as you think. They need to improve their cleaning services

Perfect place to stay in Cuenca, located in downtown near everything. I strongly recommend the rooms located in the 6th floor. The restaurant (Playgroundis such a nice place to have a drink while you enjoy the Tomebamba river view. Pet friendly hotel so get ready to travel with your best friend 🐾Excellent service!

The inside is beautiful, the private rooms are also beautiful, but the shared dorms have zero charm. For the price there are better hostels in Cuenca, which will also provide you with a towel. The beds have individual curtains which is nice, and there are lockers (bring your own lock), but on the bed there’s just a sheet and a small lightweight blanket. The bare minimum for a dorm bed.

If youre young and wanna have fun; its the best place to stay or hang around

i only stayed for a night but it was still a very nice hotel with great accommodations. Beautiful room, great view and cozy room.My only complaint is the fact that i needed to wear a wrist strap (the kind you wear at concertswhile we slept there for a night.

This hotel has everything you want, from cheap bunk beds to luxury suites. It is 3 to 4 block from the centrum and it just a few stair cases away from the river.Great views, great services. We had a perfect couple of days.

As a digital nomad, I was excited to experience a hotel designed for people like me. But I found this place puzzling.Its pretty well done - lots of amenities. Nice coworking space, yoga room, really cool cinema, restaurant and bar, communal kitchen, daily activities, library, bike rentals, etc. Range of accommodation options from $9 bunks to $60 suites.The weird part is that the WiFi speed sucks (less than 2 Mbpsand the place was totally vacant. Front desk staff were not friendly. Loud music blaring despite no one being around. Maybe other Selina locations are better?

Really Nice Hostel, good location and I very much like the concept of it BUT way too expensive for what it really is.. Prices at the bar are exhorbitant and also the place it not clean (3nights and not once a clean bathroom). Also the info you get from the front desk is a bit lacking but we heard this is standard for the chain.Washing service is good just takes very long and is super expensive.

10 dollars is Expensive for 10 beds dorms and not include breakfast, but except of that realy clean and beautiful hostel.

Very beautiful place. Dont let the front door fool you, the hotel is huge on the inside. Decorations, installations and service were great. Breakfast was varied and delicious as well. There might be some noise coming in from Calle Larga but we barely noticed it. The only downside was water heating, as we had to let the water run for 15+ minutes before we got any hot water.

Cool place and cozy private room following Selina standards but WiFi is horrible. Back and forward all the time makes impossible working there.Very poor breakfast options and low quality for the price charged.This is the 2nd Selina in 2 weeks I face WiFi issues, I hope this is not the trend because you will be losing your customer target then

The hotel is pretty decent. The club/bar is not. Wont let you in cause its half full, four types of drinks at the bar, dj only plays reggaeton (we need salsa, bachata, etc), cant be at the balcony unless you smoke. Why does that bar have no racks for the drinks, why are bottles not caped, saw a guy pouring his own soda on his drinks. Ridiculous!!!!!! Im sorry but Ill pass on your sorry service unless you improve these issues. Ive been the world over and one of the worst bars Ive ever been to. Cuenca is not a huge party town but Id rather go to Nidia.Update: There was no more than 100 or so in the locale, not my fault your bouncers cant count. I worked as a bartender in the States while I was in college. We posted full menus, why cant you? Have you guys heard of a wet bar? Sinks properly installed, bar racks for your bottles. And if your bartenders cant make more than 5 drinks for a small crowd, then you need to train them. Im traveling Ecuador as an investor, Ive managed businesses much larger in the states, Ive done entertainment events in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York. I understand this is not the states but customer service is huge anywhere in the world. Your answer is try to make excuses for yourself and bring up logistics like you understand what that means. Poor management. Ill give you a tip: the customer is always right, next time try to not respond in a condescending manner. Talk appropriately such as: "were sorry your expectations where not met, the reason......." At this point if I could give you negative stars I would.

A good co-working space. Not quite up to the same level as other Selinas but still good.

Rooms are good but it is extremely LOUD! The hostel is at a main street where all the clubs of cuenca are. Music stops at 3 am. Go there if you don’t want to sleep and party. We paid a night to stay awake the whole time... terribleUnprofessional but friendly personnel

Nice clean place, food is good, right in the center of Cuenca so at walking distance of lot of the attraction in Cuenca. But they do not offer parking if you have a car (parking will cost you around 15$ per day). Also theres no mini fridge in the room and some of the room are like dormitory with community bathrooms so be careful when reserving online. Breakfast was not included but you can get breakfast starring for 3.50$
