Description
Privilege
Amazing little gem hidden away in Ware. I have to say i like of course as im a trustee on the charity that owns it :)
MoreA unique place, only open on Saturdays but well worth making time for
Wonderful & amazing place to visit. Well done to all the volunteers that keep this place maintained & the gardens beautiful
MoreWhat a little gem of a place. Run by lovely volunteers who really know their stuff and want to share their knowledge with you. Its a unique and fascinating little place to explore on a Saturday. The volunteer on the gate even gave us a first rate tea room recommendation that turned out to be spot on.
MoreAlthough technically the size of an average garden this place was amazing. Staffed by volunteers and open mainly at weekend it was a great place to visit. The grotto hewn out of limestone was brilliant and for a couple of quid well worth a visit.
MoreOne of Wares hidden secrets, the children love going through the tunnels and looking at the shells.Make sure you take a torch with you, although thry do have some spares
MoreA hidden gem. Highly recommend a visit to Scott’s Grotto. Don’t forget your torch. Easy to park nearby.
MoreSmall charity run, secret grotto, well worth a visit.
What a treat, not only kids love it, but theres history behind the place. Will be back for Halloween and Xmas
MoreStunning amazing and friendly people
Wonderful place to visit and explore. The grotto is great and there are lots of wonderful shells and details to look at. Guides were very friendly and helpful.Unfortunately the numerous families, shrieking children and teenagers who seemed to think the grotto was their personal adventure playground rather spoilt the atmosphere. Its only £1 entry, but a bit of consideration for others costs nothing.
MoreA fascinating place to visit. Very well done and pretty unique. Lots of steps so take care.
MoreGreat little place to visit! Very unusual and a lot of history
Little hidden gem.Only there 30mins as not that larger space. But what is there is well I’m not sure how to describe?Bit spooky in places (given torch to walk round withturned torch off…… dark. And I mean blackness. Just very strange but pretty at same time. Where do you get that many shells? The staff friendly (even when rain was coming down on themand so helpful.Thank you
MoreVery interesting place to visit. One of Wares hidden gems. The children loved exploring the tunnels and found the shells fascinating. Would definitely go again.
MoreBrilliant fun and kids love it, highly recommended for school holidays if youre stuck for something to do with the kids.
MoreSmall but perfect. Kind volunteers, and an interesting place.
unique place to visit
Amazing place! Lovely chatty volunteers :)
How secluded it is, the history and how long and difficult it must have to build.
MoreVery interesting and interactive little heritage place to visit.
Little hidden gem..fantastic volunteers full of information...well worth a visit its lovely !!
MoreVery interesting place run by dedicated nice volunteers. The entrance is £1 which is used for the care and maintenance of this historic site.
MoreFascinating place to visit only April to October on a Saturday
Brilliant..bring a torch but very nice to see..kids will love it
A wonderful, quirky place to visit. Highly recommended.
There have been a few attempts to demolish this interesting folly but thanks to some determined locals it has been renovated and protected for the future! Well worth a visit!
MoreTook the kids here lovely free day out well worth a visit
Very nice Easter egg hunt with the kids. They all got an Easter egg at the end of the trail and the shell covered walls were really impressive.
MoreVery interesting, pretty cool!Take a torch!Kids enjoy exploring, but youll only spend about a half hour there.
MoreA hidden gem- check opening times as its run by volunteers, but its well with a visit to see the intricate decorations and impressive amounts of work that went into it.
MoreReally sweet and interesting. A quirky series of underground chambers whose walls are decorated with shells and flints. A torch is absolutely necessary. The grotto is set in the lower part of a small, steep sided wooded garden. An octagonal summer house sits in the top part of the garden .Although, initially, it took me less than ten minutes to go round, the children had great fun playing hide-and-seek and we were there for more than half-an-hour in the end. The parking is a little bit limited and, since it is in a residential area, there is nothing much else around but certainly worth a wee visit.
MoreExcellent. Nice little piece of history
This is a hidden gem. A truly magical place that could really make you believe in fairies. Enchanting ❤
MorePretty interesting place. The volunteers who run it really know the history and show passion in its telling. Bit of an odd thing to someone to build but worth a walk round if youre in the area. If you have claustrophobia, I wouldnt recommend as the tunnels are small and you only have a torch to guide you until you hit the larger rooms. Theres also a summer house to look at. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk around it.
MoreSuch a hidden gem. Small kids will delight in the tunnels. A phone will work as a torch
MoreGreat little historic building ,hidden away, but easily found. Take a jumper or jacket while underground as can be a bit chilly. Worth a visit ,even my kids enjoyed it.
MoreGreat place to explore and take lots of creative pictures. Good fun!
Small but intriguing, a cool and welcome respite on a hot day. Will entertain kids for 30 minutes. Cheap entry.
MoreA very interesting and fun little place to visit!
Great little place , well worth a visit if you are in Ware on a Saturday afternoon . Allow half an hour . Bring a torch . Not suitable for elderly or disabled .
MoreInteresting and little known attraction that Id definitely recommend for ten minutes of distracting kids
MoreWonderful and amazingly extensive incorporating brilliant range of shells. Dry and well ventilated with seating in main chamber. Great to cool on a hot day but unfortunately only open Saturdays. Summer house as well.
MoreBeautiful grotto, its small but free so totally worth it if youre around when its open.
MoreVisited with our Cub Pack. Very informative and fun. You have to book visits.
Kids loved it. The stewards there are very helpful. Mini adventure!
Wonderful, eccentric tourist attraction a few minutes walk from Ware town centre
Fantastic local gem. We took our Beaver Scout group here. The volunteer guide was very helpful and knowledgeable, making for a wonderful experience.
MoreAlthough this is small attraction, the grotto is a fantastic underground cavern the likes of which I have never encountered before. Theres no lighting so exploration is done with a torch
MoreFascinating bit of odd local history!
