Stylish cafe, urban farmers market & florist focusing on locally sourced, organic fare.
Delish food and coffee, gorgeous selection of cabinet and menu food.
Such a popular place! It was really crowded when we went there on Sunday for lunch. They have a really nice vibe and food. Service was really kind and professional, too.
Great customer service and range of products. Its great to see local products there. Love the essential oils!
This cafe’s Sakshuka is amazing! also nice and comfortable place to relax
Great new place just discovered in cbd. Tried their vegan chocolate slice, wadnt expecting much, but it was yummy!Great service & atmosphere too. Recommended.
Awesome service. Very pleasant front of house. Fantastic chef. Best coffee. Eager to cater to my needs. Thank you for providing the best breakfast dining of our stay in Auckland.
This Cafe is a really good place to eat with amazing food which came very fast. Highly recommended.
Awesome wee place to have a meal. Friendly staff amazing food and will be back next time in Auckland
I shop at Scarecrow a couple of times a week for groceries - they fill a gap in the market for high quality, often more sustainable food which is hard to get elsewhere. I like that I can bring my own bottles and bags to minimize waste. A few of the highlights:The Durham farm eggs are the best Ive ever had -you can taste the difference, and even I can flawlessly poach an egg, as long as Im using these! (Very hit and miss with all other brands Ive tried....)Their Durham farm A2 jersey milk comes in glass swappa bottles, and tastes so much creamier than even the other jersey milk options around Auckland! When in season their black tomatoes are amazing, so hard to buy elsewhere, in fact only other options I know of are growing them yourself or, if youre very lucky, running into some at Avondale Market.Their selection of wild wheat sourdoughs are tasty and great value compared to competitorsthe selection of local cheeses and other goods is also incredible, my favourite being their Clevedon Buffalo Bocconcini, which is like an amazing version of mozzarella. And then, sometimes I order their cafe or take home ready-to-eat family meals. You can really tell theres no cost cutting in their cooking, no cheap fillers - everything tastes very rich and generous. Their lamb pie and Salmon gravlax would have to be my favourite treatsAlso the staff are very welcoming
Excellent at non welcoming stare.Kudos to the whole team, at first we thought may be it’s a busy day and people are tiered.Outdone yourself In your service, if it wasn’t for artisan products from hawks bay would never want to visit.Fellow cafe hoppers- please visit to experience.I still like to think it may have been one off discriminating experience.Luckily I didn’t pay Monopoly money here.
Agree with others about coffee and ambiance. But visited a month ago and only got half the order. Had to go up and remind them after long wait and trying to attract attention. Tried the place again. Ignored by staff. I see someone else commented similarly. Don’t expect fawning servitude but maybe it is just regulars who get reasonable service?
Delicious homemade hummus with a lovely atmosphere
Beautiful cafe!!! Easily the best coffee in CBD. Organic ingredients, lots of vegetarian/vegan options. Plusss they have a grocer section for organic goodies!! Everything from my pantry is from here. Also amazingly friendly staff and services, makes you feel like home, love it when staff give you big smile, and remembers your coffee order. I literally come here everyday and i wouldnt know what to do if they close one day!!!
Lovely cup of coffee! Highly recommend this place. Lots of tasty goodies on offer from the Deli section..
Cute cafe/shop downtown with a neighborhood vibe. Busy on weekends but lots of seating and you can call to reserve a table if you have a large party. Some outdoor seating as well.
Awesome decor, awesome food and some of the friendliest staff Ive met in my life. Highly recommend checking this place out if youre just exploring the CBD or on your way to the library or gallery. Now see why I was recommended to go here for so long, cant wait to come back!
An overall disappointing experience. Tea infuser was too short for the teapot and didn’t steep efficiently. First order of poached eggs for both of us was over cooked and and the chef knew they were but served them anyway. The second (replacementorder was under cooked. We paid for our drinks and went to eat elsewhere. To be fair, the coffee my friend got was great.
Good coffee, great treats! Beautiful ambience, very cozy and intimate. Feels like a little farmers market combined with a small coffee shop in a communal small town library. Love the cosmic blue spirulina latte!
Loved the big breakfast! Salmon bagel was ok. Wouldnt buy it again but overall the rest was great, the staff and the store itself was great would go again.
My partner, my friend, and I were here today. The staff are super sweet and friendly. The atmosphere was very chill, warm, and cosy. The dessert, tea, and hot chocolate were so yummy. We will definitely come back again!!! Thank you 🤗
We arrived at 4:30pm on a weekend so they were close to shutting up. I needed caffeine stat, but they had stopped the espresso machine. They helped me out with some black tea and then found some filter coffee too. Both the tea and the coffee were really good and the service was super despite the challenge of our timing. They did an excellent hot chocolate too.
Good coffee & pie, good ambience, and amazing service.Perfect place to have your brunch or meet up with your friends.
Delicious Reuben with freshly squeezed orange juice elevate lunch to a whole new level! Not to mention mouth-watering vegetarian lasagne and great variety of in-house pies. Scarecrow is a shining bright spot on Auckland culinary map, an absolute must-go!
Nice store, they sell a great variety of natural products at good prices. The coffee is average. The hot chocolate was good!
Everything served at Scarecrow from coffee to entrée to dessert to foreign products on display are delicious and plentiful in amount. I appreciate the cafés firm maintenance of quality over the years.I was always a big fan of the homely, snug setting that Scarecrow embraces, but its biggest weakness is caused by the very same thing. Staff struggle to juggle orders when the tiny café becomes overcrowded, and customers begin being served wrong items after waiting 15 to 20 minutes, which is simply too long for something that is in the cabinet.I believe no one wants this beautiful café to expand and lose its identity, but something has to be changed to increase efficiency whilst maintaining quality, especially as more visitors turn into regulars.
Came here for a quick catch up with a friend. I thought the place was lovely! Very cosy and organic vibe and the food on display looks really good! I ordered a flat white for $4.80 which isnt cheap but it was a good coffee. The music was slightly loud and there were no tables available that were clean of crumbs/cups but that might be because of recent visits. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would come back to visit for more catch ups or to check out the food :)
Authentic, warm, cosy; a beautiful destination in Aucklands CBD. The food is delicious & we were blown away by the selection of artisan local NZ products lining the shelves in the grocery. Sustainability is a big focus. Not to mention fresh flowers in abundance. Scarecrow delivers as well so the perfect solution for sending gifts/flowers/food across Auckland. Heart & soul in abundance. Highly recommend!
Amazing food, coffee and service. And the material they use for the food is all free range or organic. Highly recommended.
Absolutely stoked to see the Scarecrow team open again and finding innovative ways to still provide delicious food in level 3. I had the pleasure of trying their heat and eat pre-packaged meals today and I the level and care and love they put into their food shows. Im always hesitant with takeaway food that it wont be as good as in the cafe/restaurant, but this was not the case. I had the ras el hanout spiced chicken leg and winter vegetable tagine. Reheated amazingly, tasted sensational and was a real treat after 5 weeks indoors! Thank you Scarecrow for all your work <3
Very friendly staff. They have a cute pop up shop that sells local goods and crafts ! Good seating, have a kitchen for food. Have interesting healthy lattes :)
Definitely A Worthy Leader in the coffee business! The almond latte is amazingly done! Though they are closing soon, they are still very friendly and patient with me. I’ll be back for sure to try other items on the menu!
I stopped here between work commitments and have had an excellent plum frangipani slice with coconut yoghurt and a long black. They use kokako coffee which is a favourite of mine. The experience was great sprouts with some nice jazz playing in the background. There are also a lot of nicnacs for perusing as well. Cost is moderate $$
Stopped in right at opening for a jetlag coffee and came back again for breakfast. Service was friendly. It was reasonably busy and our food still came quickly. The shakshuka and french toast were both very good.
Meh. The eggs/ omelette was runny & undercooked. The toast was soggy because it was saturated in butter. Too many flavors going on & I thought the food was barely average. Borderline gross. However the atmosphere is quaint & the store had nice eco friendly merchandise.I won’t be back to eat. But I may return for a cute bag or soap purchase!
Nice restaurant with counter ordering in Downtown Auckland. We had breakfast there and all three dishes served were good. My big breakfast was very good and the eggs were done perfectly. Plenty of sides to choose from the bakery. Had coffee service of many kinds. Very nice and friendly staff.
Delicious breakfast options. Loved the mushroom omlette with truffle oil. Omelette was fluffy and light, could really taste the truffle throughout. Great way to start the day. Great place for breakfast, coffee and lunch. Highly recommend.
After a huge disappointment from visiting another cafe in Auckland CBD yesterday morning, Scarecrow is fantastic. Staffs are friendly. Coffee is good. The grilled eggplant and ‘bacon’ burger I had is absolutely delicious. The bacon is like param ham. The bread is fabulous, artisan style bread. The cafe is also a shop selling local produces. I like to support local small businesses. Thumb up.
Love this place!!!It doesn’t matter if it’s 28c sunny or pouring with rain, this cafe is one of this nicest spots to sit in all of Auckland. It also helps when the people that work here are incredibly hospitable.Amazing food and lots of good treats to buy!
Universally pleasing. Great full flavour food and atmosphere with a florist on site. Coffee is reliably good. Good to eat at a cafe that is deliberate in sourcing good ingredients and is environmentally conscious.
There’s a dearth of wholesome places to eat out in the city centre. This is an oasis of organic, seasonal and [where possible] locally sourced food. And it’s delicious. On a Saturday afternoon, I had a hankering for a sweet treat with a hot drink, somewhere where I could hang out for an hour and read my book (yes, an actual old school book made of paper). Scarecrow fit the bill.I had a New York baked cheesecake with berry compote that was decadent without being too rich, nor too sweet. To drink I had a detox latte, which I hadn’t tried before. It’s made with activated charcoal, cacao and coconut milk and was delicious. There’s cabinet food plus a menu that I need to come back and try, as it all looks great.
A lovely cafe with very peaceful and funky atmosphere. I just wanted a cheap breakfast and had a lovely toast. Coffee good. Sells some organic pantry items too among other things. So glad I stumbled across it!
Scarecrow is very consistent with flavor and freshness. I have been here a few times and they NEVER disappoint! I highly recommend the shakshuka and avocado cream cheese bagel since they are my favorites but anything on the menu is just satisfyingly delicious!
Scarecrow down from Albert Street was a great find for a light dinner and dessert with friends. The cafe is stunning with walks of organic groceries and other items and a bustling kitchen and counter. We ordered a salad and the steak and were highly impressed by the service, food and ambiance that a take home dessert was a must! Highly recommended!
We had an really good breakfast here. Both meals we have ordered have been amazing. The coffee was fine only the price is to high to come here regularly for breakfast.
i went there reading on japanese blog that it was THE place to be... ok yes its nice cafe but its not like i will choose to go to auckland city for this cafe... its close to university and it seem to attract both students and tourist. not much business ppl as its more of a sit in cafe than random take aways. few food items that looked interesting i had apoke strudel.overall its a nice cafe and ambience is plasant. but i didnt see how the others rated it as must go
I have been to scarecrow twice, won’t be coming back. Love the concept, the design and the feel. Unfortunately, the service is questionable - the waitress who served us was obviously not very well trained as she had no idea what we were ordering. It took 20mn before we had our food although we had ordered something out of the cabinet which was ready made. The food is mildly overpriced - $14 for a sandwich which didn’t blow me away (on the photo you can only see half the sandwich I ordered).First time we were there, the service was also slow and I was given a sandwich with meat in it although I specifically asked for vegetarian foods off the menu...The manager is very nice and professional though. You can see her working hard amongst her staff which you don’t see often.
Came for a sunny seat outside just off queen street and the healthy lunch, lots of vegetarian, organic and locally sourced options. Took a sunny seat outside and had a baguette with home made hummus, roasted aubergine and peppers- it was moist and juicy, plus a home made passion fruit fermented soda, really unusual and refreshing. Then I stayed for the sublime cheesecake with a cream cheese frosting. Mariana my server was super friendly. Didnt stay for dinner but noticed the wine list is clearly by someone who loves wine! Shop had great looking produce. Am going back this weekend with friends.
Stopped by for a very early breakfast (7am). The place was quite nice, a mix between a cafe and a market. There were selling a few interesting items like a chili peanut butter. They had bubbles for breakfast but it was only available from 8am.The place had an interesting menu, and i ended with an iced chocolate and the Scarecrow brunch. The iced chocolate was ok. I personally though it wasnt sweet enough. The food was quite nice, good flavour and fairly large portions. I quite liked the seasoning on the potatos. We managed to get the bubble half way through and it was nice.Only issue was the speed of the service, we were quite a large table and it took a while to get all the drinks out. The timing for the food wasnt too bad.
If you want to drink a glass of wine or a coffee and eat a good apple strudel in the middle of the day you can go to "Scarecrow". The quality of the food is very good (organic productsand the atmosphere is friendly.
Probably the best coffee I have had in Auckland. Cool place with really laid back atmosphere. Food looks good but we didnt try! A bunch neat but high end cacao, peanut butters, olives etc to take away. Highly recommend walking away from the SB on queens street and up the hill to this place.
