Sax n Art Jazz Club - Bar in Tan An, Vietnam
For Vietnam, its expensive. However, if it were in any other city, it would be amazingly cheap. We had, between the two of us, three cocktails and five beers. With the cover charge the total bill was £45. (1.4 million dong). We had a brilliant night. The show was amazing. Lots of different artists. At one extraordinary point, a song had already started but the drummer handed the sticks to a French musician that was literally just walking in the joint. Pure jazz.
an absoulute great place to hang out with friends or even your love one at night, of course this is a place for people who really enjoy jazz but trust me the live music in this little bar here is phenomenal, it make you want to jam with the melodies of each individuals musicians, singers and artists.but one thing though is that the price for the beverage and the 150k cover charge and a 10% charge is quite ridiculous high.defenitely would come back here but with a deeper wallet
We were so happy to have found a Jazz Bar in HCMC, but then...150K cover charge + 130K the cheapest drink (beer+ 10% service charge = ridiculously expensive!Sorry! We wont be back 😵
Be carefull of hand written bills while the company own a PDQ, they tried to ripped us off plus they add an extra 10% for some reasons even tho its not advertise nowhere on the menu. The music was good for sure. But its ultra expensive, charging you 150vnd as soon as you seat. 110vnd for a coke. Love Jazz places but Im not going there ever again. Oh, and you cant smoke inside, a jazz place, I mean....
I regret not to be able to give 6 stars. World class music. A lot of energy... but also nuances. In addition very decent cocktails. It is very affordable by European standards. ...superb quality time.
Went to the club with totally no plan, turned out it was the best night of my life. Listened to the legendary saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan playing Trinh Cong Son music didnt know it was Trinh Cong Sons 81st birthday. What a night!
Great bar and first of all great music. Tuan the owner and terrific sax player was in town and played most of the 2 sets. The staff is helpful and efficient. Highly recommended if you like music or jazz. There was an solid American singer warming up the audience before Tuan came on stage. English is the common language in this club. The cover is 150 k and drinks about 130 k and up. The club is near the tourist market. The band:Tran Manh Tuan on SaxAndy Duc on DrumMorgan Dung on BassMinh Phuong on PianoMio San on trombone (from Japan)
Best jazz in Saigon. Great place for a date. Show up early or call for a reservation.
Ive said elsewhere that Carmen has the best live music in town, but really its a tie with Sax n Art, depending on your taste or mood, Latin guitar or jazz sax, respectively. Both are small enough for an intimate view of the band from most tables. The last time at Sax n Art there was a cover charge, which Ive not encountered before, but worth it to hear an outstanding jazz performance.
Tran Manh Tuan attracts an ensemble of world class musicians to accompany him each night. The vibe is very cool and the jazz is as good as it gets. With such a diverse group of incredibly talented musicians often times the magic happens. You cant put a price on that.
January 2020, stayed for nearly three hour show, front row seat for hot live jazz with world-class saxophonist and great backing band, had three beers, and it was all $26 including cover and service. The people complaining about the price have no idea what theyre talking about. Put this club in NYC and youd be lucky to have that experience for $100.
Hhhhhhhhm normally I’d be reluctant to give a bad review but honestly this place definitely deserves one. The cocktail bar lady (who I was informed is the owneris one of the most arrogant and unhelpful people I’ve encountered in Vietnam. Period !Asked for a Moscow Mule (a basic cocktail it must be saidand was given a blank star followed by a shrug of the shoulders followed by being ignored! Clearly I wanted to buy a drink but no love there 😉Musicians are very talented indeed. And the Music is great which is a shame because my experience dealing with the owner was an overwhelmingly negative one. Will go to Carman anytime over this place.
I wouldn’t give this place a single star. Despite getting there early and paying he cover charge along with the drinks that are (assuming raised170.000, I had a seat in the front to which they asked me to move for some people that clearly did not want to sit with me. Mind you again, I was half an hour early. I rather hangout with the street performers next time and give them my money for the hospitality.
Cover charge is compulsory. An overpriced drink is compulsory. Overtly sweet drink. The atmosphere is too dark for comfort, waiters need to use their smartphones as a light for guests to see the menu. Bad acoustics. Theres no need to play the music so loud in an enclosed space. Jazz is not meant to be amplified that much until its not possible to have a normal conversation. A multinational band is cool, but theyre playing style is very fragmented. Its like many solo artists reluctantly working together for a paycheck and not willing to be outshone by others. The vocalist was just shouting his way through the songs and he really needs to brush up on his pronunciation if he intends to sing in English. Jazz is an international genre, Im sure there are good jazz Viet songs. His interaction with the band was awkward to watch as well. All in all, never coming back. Advise u to head elsewhere if youre looking for a jazz themed venue. No conflicts of interests.
Don’t go there if it’s past 23:00!They charge for the show + the drinks are highly over priced. We entered the place at 23:20 not knowing the show was about to be over. We were notified about the show fee but no one notified us that the show had only two songs left.At 23:40 we got served the bill ( we didn’t even ask for itcause the place was closing with the full charge of the show. I mean I don’t even know when the show started but to charge the full fee in addition to the highly priced drinks ( highly overpriced means the beer was three times more expensive than in any fancy restaurant in Vietnam is simply rude! The least they should have done is to notify us the show was ending and let us decide what to do.After our argument they gave us a50% discount from the show price but we were left with the feeling that they tried to scam us
All the performers were amazing. The drumer was the best 🤘
Blue moon is my go for drink here. Good live jazz. Cover charge of 130k/pax.
A cute little Jazz bar tucked in an alley, known for its legendary Sax artist. The band plays some old school classics and switches it up from time to time. Totally worth the entry fee and definitely should be on your weekend to do list.
Price is expensive but it is a reasonable. You have to pay at least 10$ for one person including the enterance fee.But performance is fantastic. The first time will be great. But secon time is a so and soIf you like jazz especially sax phone,I strongly recommend this bar. They make a jazz performance after 9pm.And from 10pm jazz master[owner of this shop] will play saxphone performance passionably.I strongly recommend this jazz bar.
You dont have to love jazz to fall in love with this place. The atmosphere, the staff and of course the music makes Sax N Art a place to add to your to-do list when visiting Ho Chi Minh City. Tran Manh Tuan and the band are incredibly talented, and put on an amazing show. We ended up returning many nights during our stay and will definitely be back again next time we go to Ho Chi Minh. Thank you Sax N Art!!!
Nice club and good music, but it’s waaaaaay too expensive. The drinks are already overpriced AND you have to pay ‘cover charge’. At first the waiter said u have to order at least 2 drinks for 2 person to avoid cover charge. When you get the bill, there’s an extra surprise: 10% service charge. After I speak vietnamese they said the waiter not understand English! We did regret going here because we felt ripped off. I wouldn’t recommend this place!!!!
I like their music, happy to know this kinda place in HCM. Very casual live jazz bar and it is fantastic! just wondering why those shops near le thanh ton bill additional VAT like in japan, one thing i hate tricks in this area.
Incredible. The music we saw here on a Thursday night was some of the best weve ever seen. The owner is a sax player in a class of his own. There is a small cover charge which is totally worth it. Great cocktails, cosy atmosphere. Loved it.
Best Jazz in town. Perfect perform by Ru Rung. Must come and see.
They offered great performances and decent drink. However, it should be noted that there is an entry fee for the club and the jazz starts around 9pm
The only place to enjoy standard jazz music in Ho Chi Min city. Guest singers, the saxophone, the piano, the bass and drums were so nice.there was various cocktails but little expensive.Concerts were charged for each person.
This was one of the most magical places at Vietnam! A great pleasure to hear those wonderful Jazz themes and songs, played in lovely harmony way! The place is totally romantic and recommended . The Jazz club owner is a very skilled and talented Jazz player, but also a warm and moderate person.
Great place to listen good jazz from dedicated musicians. Venue with good vibes!
If you want a night of modern jazz go to Sax & Art. Each night varies of course, after all its live music, but Ive been coming to this club for 15 years now and overall the music has always been great. So why did I only give 4 stars? Its a personal thing and I hope the management will read this and change it but they had no Coke. Only Pepsi and I dislike the taste of Pepsi, especially with rum. Cheers.
Spent one evening there and it was fantastic. Really good jazz and a nice vibe. Although you have to pay 120.000vnd for the live music and the one beer is around 120.000vnd too but its totally worth because you get an awesome performance from really good artists. Definitely recommendable!
For the real jazz lover a must go! Small and great atmosphere, even better music. Great live performers, especially if the master himself gets on stage!
I had a fantastic evening. Music is the soul in this venue. This is the first time I meet Mr Tran, he is a true artist with great personality. He also brought in some respectful guests on his stage, making my evening highly enjoyable and memorable. In case youre in town, dont miss this cozy jazz club -- this is definitely one of the best and hottest in SE Asia!
Lets not complain about the price here. The space itself is located on one of the busiest street in Saigon, thus it makes sense to charge a little bit more than average. However, what bumps me off is the music itself. Subpar and obnoxious, the performances really dont give much of an impression. The music is annoyingly loud and thus making the experience rather unpleasant.I understand people have their own preference when it comes to music. This is my personal judgement.
Nice club and good music, but it’s waaaaaay too expensive. The drinks are already overpriced AND you have to pay ‘cover charge’. When you get the bill, there’s an extra surprise: 10% service charge. In Europe you can go to a better jazz club for less money. We did regret going here because we felt ripped off. I wouldn’t recommend this place!
Great place with good jazz n funk performance!Cover charge at 120k but drinks price quite reasonnable. The owner and awsome performer, Tran Manh Tuan, is a great well known performer and singer. Performance takes place from 21:00 to 0:00. Good service!
Hey. OK, I wasnt 100% on the night my wife and I went to this place but the surly attitude of the waiter on top of the cover charge was too much. The guy wouldnt even give me a glass of water though I asked very politely. As a result I turned a pretty jaundiced ear on the band. It sounded like some sort of soft Jazz rock being played badly. My initial reaction was that these were third rate musicians and we were going to be paying through the nose to listen to them practise. As I say I may be being a little harsh so will resile slightly and say that perhaps they are really only second rate, but the service and customer abilities of the staff are tenth rate, worst Ive experienced, ever.
Not cheap compares to price in Vn. But nevertheless amazing performance from the owner. He was very enthusiastic and played a wide ranges of song choices
Nice Jazz, spoilt by very poor service. Waiters consistently stand right in front of the tables blocking the view of stage. No manager available to sort out the problem - this after paying 240,000vnd for cover charge.Very disappointing :-(
Nice cosy jazz place with live bands in the evening
The place is not cheap (120k cover charge + 165k a drinkbut if you want to enjoy some great live music you wont be disappointed. All the players were very talented and especially the owner is an excellent saxophone player.
Lots of good Jazz standards, and the night I went there were at least four guest musician added to the standard four piece during the nnight. All the performers were very talented including a couple of great singers. If are looking for a nice relaxing Jazz bar in Saigon this is it, I came on a Saturday at 8.45 and place was empty, but by 9.30 was full. Some said prices were high, but come on, this is a jazz bar every one I have ever been to has high prices, and of course by western stds 165000 for a cocktail is still about half what I would pay in Melbourne, and yes there is also a 100,000 cover, but thisiathe only way to make small jazz bars work, people tend to drink slow at a place like this. Anyway rant over, lets just be pleased to have entrepreneurs who are dedicated to the Jaz genre. Note this is more he popular style of jazz e.g. Take 5, Fever, but also they perform careless whisper and a James Brown song so something for everyone really..
Jazz, what else? Not many places have real musicians like this place. And cocktails are reasonably priced. The owner, the main saxophonist, is nice. Always an enjoyable moment there!
The comments below about price are relative to HCMC. As a visitor, I found it inexpensive in comparison to what youd find in other big cities. The owner played sax with passion and the Vietnamese fusion was a nice local touch in the midst of traditional classics. Excellent vibe. I wanted to stay longer but got too hungry and they dont serve food.
Looks nice, but you can see that Marco Polo writes about this place. Its very expensive for Vietnam. You have to pay for the entry at first and at first I was thinking its ok because you can listen to live music but then I took a look at the drink menu and the prices were also much too expensive. Its maybe nice to go there, but it costs much more than at other places. Even the Sky Tower was cheaper and you dont have to pay for the entry. I cannot recommend this club...
Amazing place with phenomenal music. Catch the spot right in front of the band for a completely unique jazz bar experience. There is a cover charge and the cocktails are overpriced but its so worth it because the music and ambiance is absolutely phenomenal. This was the highlight of my trip to Saigon. Jazz lovers, do not miss this.
I love jazz.this is very good plcae to listen to jazz music. Good sax player in here.
Cosy jazz club. Music was fantastic and more than worth the cover charge. Had the privilege of watching the owner, Tran Manh Tuan in action - a world class musician. Service excellent too.
After 9pm, the music performance will be started.Entrance Fee 100,000VN(It isnt included in Drinks price.)Performace Quality was quite Good rather than my expectation. If you like Jazz Music, You should visit here.I recommend.
While in Ho Chi Minh City, we invited our hosts out for an evening of cocktails and music at Sax n Art Jazz Club (Ranked #9 out of 48 Nightlife in Ho Chi Min City on TripAdvisor). We arrived just in time to get a table, order some drinks and listen to the live Jazz performances. The layout is interesting with the side-on stage, and cool lighting. I had high expectations to have a breathtaking experience of beautiful, unique, exciting, energising music. I think my expectations where a little to high.I have not had a great deal of live Jazz performances, but I would personally say the music was ‘just played’. The performers did not look or sound like they really grooved together, instead just playing the same songs I assume they play every night. It is a shame when I think highly of live music and really enjoy it when performers really enjoy themselves, and express there joy through the music. This is however my personal opinion about the performances as a whole, this is not to dismiss the performers themselves they can play, its something they have dedicated a lot of there own time and passion to and its something I can not do.At the mid-time break, we decided to call it a night.
The cover is fair. The cocktails are more expensive. But not severely overpriced. The staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly. I suggest to get there 15 min before 9 so you can get a good seat. The music was great. The pianist was on his first day and did a great job. All the other seasoned musicians were great!! They had a guest blues singer from New Orleans, he was fantastic. We were nothing but smiles the whole evening.
