Wow.. the food Amazing, the Price amazing, the staff and service also great. Definitely check this place out !
We found a Malaysian gem. Tasty fresh food. Efficient service and clean.
Best noodles in town! Our shop gets food here all the time. Lovely service and delicious meals.
Authentic and tasty food prepared with fresh ingredients and presented with true Asian finesse. The prices are moderate and the quantities are larger than normal.
Awesome little Malaysian joint with great food and great prices. Definitely will be back when visiting Tasmania again.
Excellent Malaysian food, great value and wonderful service. Come here for the best Malaysian comfort food in Hobart!
Delicious Malaysian food, amazing service and very well priced. Suitable for different dietary requirements and meal of our trip! We had mee goreng campur, char kueh tiao, nasi goreng, and a roti. Highly reccomended!
Great Tom Yum soup and chicken curry on a cold night. Good portion sizes
A great place for a quick, cheap lunch. Huge selection, decent prices and food is full of flavour. Roti bread was amazing!
Fresh, tasty and quick Nasi Goreng seafood as well as the seafood laksa! Good service even though very busy.
Fry rice & noodles and chicken wings are good!
This has always been one of my favourite Asian food cafes, but omg the food is still getting better. Friendly staff, cosy relaxed atmosphere, delicious food, prompt service,... cant go wrong whatever dish you choose. Cafe is rarely packed and rarely empty. Highest recommendation for the Wonton Soup I just had. Oh and the prices are very competitive as well.
Sawak is truly a treasure for any food lover. The food here is always good. The staff here are awesome and super friendly. Affordable prices and great quality of food. I’ve been coming here for a year and a half and Sawak never lets me down. Love this place!
If you are a lover of Malaysian cuisine. Sawak is the place for you. Vegan options are so good. Food always feels clean and wholesome. Service is super quick. Really appreciate Sawak being here in Hobart!
Fast service and tasty food at very affordable prices. Recommend going just outside regular lunch hours if you want to avoid the rush as it gets very busy here. Flexible opening hours however, so easy to find a quieter time.
So so goodWe had a laksa and a Mei Goreng. Both were very traditional and beyond tasty. Right amount of flavour, but easy to add more sambal too if uou like it extra hot. Want to go back for dinner.
Expansive, small servings. Meat did not balance out with the portion of coconut rice. Received a few pieces of meat in the original serving. Had to ask for more meat in order not to eat rice on its own - ended up to be an expensive unsatisfactory experience.
I was craving something with beef, the beef here was actually really good quality! Especially considering the affordable pricing.
Its a nice small Malaysian restaurant. Must try Roti. Overall food was decent.
A friend and I ordered the vegetarian Char Kway Teow, Laksa and roti. Food was delicious and portions were generous. They were neither too oily or salty. Service was fast and efficient. You can see the behind the scenes and appreciate the work they do. Good pricing too. Recommended!
This place is a little gem, serving some really fantastic Malaysian food. The food was so good, staff super friendly and quick service. The location was very central and easy to find. Honestly the food was authentic and delicious and the pricing was great.Tip - if you have an Entertainment App you can use it here for a discount
Loved Sawak! Good food, great prices and you can tell its good when its full of Malaysians.
Perfect Food at Hobart
Authentic Malaysian restaurant that had all the classic dishes. Love the sound of woks going at it in the background.Ordered curry puffs and chicken laksa. The curry puffs had a nice kick to it, they came in two small bite size pieces. The laksa unfortunately had hair in it but they were happy to get me a new one. Laksa itself was really good, tasted what laksa should, had a nice little kick to it.Besides the hair in the laksa everything else was excellent. Good food and good service.
The food was so tasty and reasonably priced and we loved the street food style ambience to the restaurant and our favourite was the roti chanai. Would definitely come back here again.
Craving for some Malaysian food and happy that Ive found this place to settle my craving. 👍 Order at the counter and you can help yourself to the cutleries.
If youre in the mood for Malaysian dishes and youve seen thus place pop up in your online search then a few words of advice....book ahead. Sawak Cafe was packed to the rafters when I first walked in.Was met with very friendly staff member who showed me my table. Its a small place so it kind of felt a bit squashed in with limited room to manoeuvre. Their were a good amount of options available, meat, vegetarian and Halal option also available. Once youve decided just head up to the counter to order and pay fir your meal.I literally waited fir about only 10 minutes before my entree came out, which was spiced chicken wings. Then closely followed the main which Id chosen the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang and a bottle of juice from the fridge. This all came to just under $23 which was good value,but......Dont get me wrong, the food was delicious but I had come with a bit of an appetite and with all the lovely food smells around me I guess it made me more hungrier than usual. I felt that the Nasi Lemak was a bit smaller of a portion than it could be. I would have been quite happy to pay more if the portion was a little bigger.....but this didnt take away from the experience, as I said it was delicious. It just means next time I might order some dessert 😉Overall, definitely worth checking out for yourself.
Came across with this little Malaysian restaurant in Hobart CBD, and the food was apparently delicous! Quite busy when we went there. Good lunch!
Was the first time thought to give it a try I ordered Chicken curry for take away, for $14 only 4 pieces of chicken and some carrots?? With half of the small take away cup filled in watery curry "soup"(not sauce...), definitely not going back again.
Best Malaysian food in town.
I am glad we have Sawak Cafe in Hobart. The food is quite delicious and authentic. The price is also reasonable. If you are looking for a good Malaysian restaurant, try Sawak.
I had been here many times. Food is good. Only reason I am giving 1 star is they don’t keep open as they advertise.I planned my lunch and sometimes dinner according to their opening hour and missed it because they close their shop before they should. You can see the photo, people are still in there but locked the door already. I was here at 2:43pm and posting this review at 2:47
Amazing food.. easily the tastiest meal we had in Hobart... And we went to some highly rated restaurants on our trip !
Been trying to get a seat in this little restaurant for a week. Finally got lucky and ordered the Nasi Lemak beef randang. The beef always soft and tender, just needed a little more coconut and lemongrass flavour. The fried anchovies was really.nice and crispy. Though I thought the serving size is a little small l, it was pretty good value. Order extra boiled vegetables, which it was just that but needed to have my recommended veggie intake. Quick and easy service. Would like to come back to try other dishes.
Amazing 👏 tastes! We had fried noodle, laksa, nasi lemak and dumpling. Finding a good malaysian taste in hobart was difficult specially any for a vegetarian eater. We all savoured every bite of those....Cafe was very small and sitting were limited 😕
Very good Malaysian food. We had the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang. It was more beef curry than beef rendang, but the beef is very tender and delicious. The nuts and the anchovies are very crunchy and are a nice accompaniment. The Nasi Goreng has a very nice "wok hei" flavour and is very good.
This is my favourite restaurant in Hobart. Over the years that I’ve been coming here the food is consistently amazing. It’s always fresh and tasty and comes out quickly. The food is so cheap for how delicious it is. Heaps of veggo options. The staff are the best! Always really friendly and happy. I love the atmosphere of the busy kitchen next to the dining area. Every single time I’ve been here it’s packed - Hobart knows what’s up. 10/10 would eat it every day
Service was impeccable, the food not so.We ordered the nasi goreng chicken and tom yum noodle beef soup.Nasi goreng was standard, the portion was nice, enough and not wasteful. Something that wouldnt go wrong.Tom yum would be something I would recommend avoiding. There was a lack of meat and variety of vegetable in the dish. On top of that, the flavour was simply sour and tasted like a badly seasoned dish. This dish was a shame.
Good generous portion. Ordered the combo spicy noodles - the beef was particularly nice and plenty of seafood. Could’ve been a bit spicier but they have good array of condiments on the table
Fast service. The food and flavor is not bad. I was specially happy with the lady finger in chicken curry. It was cooked to perfection, soft yet not falling apart, the chef sure know what he / she was doing. The nasi gorrang was good too. But the 5 stars goes to the service staff, their customer service is an art form. My son dropped a glass of water and they immediately came over wiped it all of with a smile. And that is it right there, dont know how many hours they had been working for that day, yet they carried such positive attitude, dont know what training they had been given, but others from any industry can use this quality of service as a benchmark.
Great food and great friendly staff. Nasi Lemak with Prawn sambal is a must try and their chicken rice.
Cheap and cheerful eatery in Hobart. Food is quite tasty. Partly self serve but staff will point you in the right direction. Service is friendly and polite. Recommended for those looking for affordable and filling meals. Tried the nasi lemak with chicken wings and I love the chicken wings.
Decent food and friendly, helpful staff. I have tried a few of their dishes including the chicken rice, chicken curry and Singapore noodles and I would order them again. Convenient location. Only thing is the restaurant is quite small. Hard to get a seat if you come in during peak hours, especially in group.
Wow!!! Friendly staff, super clean eating area and kitchen, piping hot and fresh Laksa, and some of the absolute BEST roti I have ever had!!! This was such a perfect stop for a rainy and cold lunch. I’d go back and bring all my friends for sure.
A taste of home down under here in Hobart. Stick to the fried dishes - you wont be able to make this at home. The skilled chef and his seasoned wok will elevate even a humble fried rice into a masterpiece that is light and not greasy. The laksa could use some more coconut milk but the friendly staff was happy to bring us more chilli flakes. We walked out into the brisk Hobart evening feeling smug and warm in the heart.
Fixed our craving over Malaysia food in Tasmania. The fried rice & fried mee goreng all with wok hei, Nasi Lemak full of santan flavour, laksa is awesome good too! Thanks boss for the good hospitality and took photo with my parent.
Pretty good. Friendly staff, not too long for food. Reasonably priced. The taste is not exactly as in Sarawak but its close enough(the kuey teow). The rendang however, it taste more like malay curry in comparison to one you can get in Sarawak, Malaysia which taste different and more yellowish colour.
I really like these food!It is pretty yummy!!!Fantastic!!!And the price is very cheap! The service is good!I must recommend this shop! You will find a new taste about rice noodles, ahahahaha, lol^^
Great Malaysian food at an affordable price. The restaurant is clean and cozy. Didnt like their boiled dumplings, but the Laksa and Nasi Lemak were really good.
