Contemporary bi-level eatery serves eclectic, locally sourced fare & a large Sunday brunch buffet.
An excellent meal!! We came to watch a Michigan game abs what a dinner find. Amazing cocktails with excellent liquor and combinations of flavors. Our meals and sides were very high quality and perfectly cooked. Excellent staff as well. We will definitely go back before our visit is over.
It feels like they are really pushing the new menu too hard. There are so many negative reviews about it, maybe its time to go back? Savas used to be my favorite restaurant and we went here for every special occasion for years but with the new chef and menu its really gone downhill. Also the change in decor is tragic. It used to be so light, airy, warm, and welcoming. Now Im sad to say its very drab and dull.
Dropped by to have dinner after a walk and the staff were extremely accommodating. I got the dirty burger with fries, both were delicious. The server was very nice and the food was quick to arrive. Amazing service and top tier food!
This restaurant used to be one of my all-time favorites, and I’m sorry to say that I’m incredibly disappointed with the new menu. The menu items are extremely expensive, the portion sizes are small, and the food itself is not worth the price. I paid $50 for a single dish and a lemonade (pictured). Will not be returning.
The dinner was so disappointing. They have a new chef and changed the menu. It’s awful. The meals have no flavor. The fries were tasty but that’s all.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant for years, but this was the first time since the new chef and the renovation. If this place is claiming they kicked it up a notch, the only thing they’ve increased is the price of their food. The quality, diversity, and service have all suffered. It’s a ripoff. Save your money and your time.
I echo all of the negative reviews from recent weeks. The new menu leaves you wanting more. Nothing jumped out at the start, but I’m all for trusting the chef and trying something new / out of your comfort zone. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming at best with small portions that leave you hungry after dropping $50 at dinner. Service was also underwhelming with the exception of one amazing waitress who fixed and comped a poorly cook steak! Rooting for Savas and hope they figure out their new system soon!
Great dine-in for friends and family! Stuff is very courteous.
Unfortunately this is not the old Sava’s…or even close (it used to be one of our favorite spots). The new menu was disliked by my entire family (we tried many dishesand we could only stomach a few bites of each dish. Service was great, but food is not worth coming here.
Really nice dinner tonight. I had the branzino with a glass of rosé from a favorite vineyard.
My husband and I came for the soft opening back in May and I shared our negative experience then and never heard from anyone from Sava’s after that, so I’m sure our second negative experience will likely also go unheard. However, we decided to bring my in-laws last night who were in town because they used to love Sava’s. Unfortunately, both the food and service are completely subpar now. I’m all for menu changes, but when the food on your current menu doesn’t even compare to your previous food — new chef or not — clearly changes need to be made. Our waiter, while incredibly friendly & kind, was not familiar with the items on the menu or helpful whatsoever when it came to food allergies. We had two guests in our party order the halibut, both dishes went back with more than half the dish remaining on the plate due to the bland nature of the fish. Our waiter upon gathering our plates did not ask if there was anything wrong, but we did end up telling him the fish was quite bland & inedible to which he responded “I agree, we’ve all been discussing this and it is very bland”…If he was aware the fish is bland and not tasty, why not warn us of that prior to us placing our order? One guest in our party had a food allergy and he was completely unaware of the ingredients in most dishes to steer away from with that ingredient. Sava’s used to be our favorite restaurant, which is why we decided to give it another chance, however it’s gone completely downhill with what seems like no care or interest to change or better itself to the standard of food & service it once held. Raising your prices and attempting to make your food fancier doesn’t make it tastier by any means. Bring back the old Sava’s.
Savas used to be my favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor. When they reopened, I went with my girlfriend and we absolutely loved the menu. Specifically the salmon with the spinach and hash brown. It was to die for.We went once a week until they changed the salmon to no hash brown (different veggiesand a different sauce. It was less food and not as good if I’m being completely honest. We still went to support and enjoyed the aesthetic. And then they completely removed the salmon. And didn’t replace it with a good substitute. It’s very overpriced for very mediocre food. We’ll be finding a new date night spot but I truly hope they figure out what works best for them and their customers.
The new menu is terrible. What happened to the mac and cheese? The hippie bowl? The umami ketchup? Why would they get rid of everything good on the menu? This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. When the menu got smaller during COVID, I thought, “this is disappointing, but at least they still have the classics.” Now they have only five entrees, and all of them are overpriced and none of them are at all appetizing. I arrived late to a dinner and found that my family had ordered for me. If they hadn’t, I would’ve just left.
Really disappointing. Unfortunately after the change in menu and overturn of management I was left feeling very disappointed. They’re trying to be something their not. In addition the service was extremely upsetting. After waiting an hour for an appetizer in addition to our food we were left feeling hungry and underwhelmed with such small portions. A true loss to the Ann Arbor community.
I was told this place had gone downhill, and after trying dinner last night, I unfortunately agree. I am all for rennovating and occasionally changing up the menu, but such a drastic change to more of a steakhouse doesnt really work where it is. Also, its as if the interior is more casual now with the open kithen, but the food is much more unapproachable. Most of the orders coming out of the kitchen were burgers, so I think others were also gravitating to the most approachable option. I had the fish and was let down (overcooked and undersalted). I really miss the greek salad, mac and cheese, turkey burger and lobster saffron pasta. I would be willing to pay more for those items now with the rising costs of food and labor. What made Savas great previously was that it was a nice upscale meal without being out of reach. Now, the food got worse, favorite options got cut, and (inflation asidethe price points are unattainable. Sadly, with 20+ great meals at the "old" Savas but a compltely different and worse experience, I will not be returning. **Editing to 3 stars, appreciate the reply and will give things a try once the menu is figured out**
Completely redesigned and new menu. Must try!
Best cocktail shrimp I’ve ever had. We really enjoyed all the appetizers and I loved my entree the summer corn risotto. Loved the wine selection too, will return! Be sure to visit if you haven’t been there recently as it’s gone through a full remodel including the menu.
Sava’s restaurant in Ann Arbor- what happened? Bring back the old chef and the old menu. Worst meal I’ve had ever. This place used to be good, one of our favorite places to dine for special occasions but not anymore. Cold, burnt, over oiled food. Pre-cut filet that was cold and unseasoned. The waitress seemed embarrassed because she never even asked about our meal. A total waste of money.
Aug 2022 FYI that Savas has completely changed the majority of the menu, since the last time I was here; after some remodeling done. Will have to dine again to update my review.Dec 2021 Great customer service...5 stars! Always love the ambience of the bar to the coziness of the restaurant. Food-wise tonight was 4 stars. Felt a bit pricey for what we ate... with 21+% tip, it was roughly $270 for 5 people. 4 cocktails, 3 apps, 5 entrees.A few people had the Savas wagyu burger with the garlic shoe string fries. The burger was "nothing special" taste-wise and a bit on the dry side. It was ok. Fries though were good. The sauce for the burgers tasted like a tartar sauce.Chicken panino sandwich with the garlic fries and the penne rigata pasta were both the winners on entrees tonight. Pasta was flavorful and ingredients worked well together between the bits of ground beef, broccoli raab (aka the stemand mushrooms. However, the sauce on this dish is watery...I wouldve thickened it a little, so that it sticks to the noodles. The gemelli pasta dish was a mushroom bolognese sauce topped with two dollops of ricotta cheese but texture was more like a whipped sour cream. This dish needed a touch of salt or something. One person described it as more of a pasta with a thick marinara sauce or tomato paste. Not a fan.We started with an appetizer round of sweet potato fries, roasted brussel sprouts, and the bang bang shrimp, all of which were excellent! Cocktails too!Still love this place... will be back! ❤
I havnt been to Savas since before thier remodel. Ordinarily this place would be 5 stars all day long... however I believe due to the Art fair they were busier that usual and probably understaffed. That being said the staff was friendly yet rushed, service was attentive yet slow but the food was very good... unfortunately we never received the appetizer we put in and although we were not charged this is not the service I would expect from an establishment of this caliber. Slightly disappointed but still loyal.
D I V I N E!!!We sat outside on the patio, the food was served in a heartbeat, and it just melted in your mouth. All the ingredients blended together very well, it’s like an explosion of flavors.I got the shrimp arugula salad and the salmon entrée, they both were amazing. The shrimp was a generous portion and it was charcoal grilled, which is a plus! The salmon was juicy and very fresh. Also the service was brilliant. Definitely coming back to try the whole menu, because I don’t wanna miss out! I’ve had a great experience.
The atmosphere was very nice and the service was good. The shrimp pasta was hard and quite bland and the portion was small. The cheesecake was okay. Overall rather disappointing and overpriced.
Train Wreck! My daughter’s graduation two years delayed and what she wanted most was dinner with family friends at Sava’s. A fave for meals over her 4 years at UM, we made reservations 4 months ago. Closed for remodeling we got a reservation for their “soft opening” tonight (May 7). Our experience…TERRIBLE!It is rare that I ever say this. I even went into the dinner knowing they were breaking in a new restaurant and my expectations were low. But, NOT THIS LOW. An hour and 30 minutes after ordering and NOTHING! And, they only offered 4 entrees and 2 salads (along with some appetizers). By design, it wasn’t even very busy. After 90 minutes we finally had to beg to get the pre-dinner salad which we asked them to split…after arguing with the “manager” they finally split the salad. After 2 hours the food came. Steak inedible because it was undercooked. Side dishes came 30 minutes before entrees, waitress disappeared halfway into the meal and so much more! Several tables got up and just left! Complained and asked for the owner. She was “too busy” to respond! Bar manager finally came over to present us with $450 bill which had items we returned, drinks we were told had been comped, and more. We asked those items be removed and they were.We understand re-opening nights (although Sava’s opened over a week agoare going to struggle a bit but, this was insane. Recovery from our poor experience was weak and we will never go back…NOT EVER. This is sad because it was a fave for our whole fam and an experience we will long remember and share with others. MY ADVICE…DO NOT GO TO SAVA’s UNTIL-THEY WORK OUT THEIR DEFICIENCIES. THEY DON’T DESERVE YOUR BUSINESS…YET!
Please bring back the mushroom bolognese/gemelli pasta for the reopening!!! It’s my absolute favorite and I will be so sad without it. Or give me the recipe 😂 also love the bang bang shrimp & autumn in New York cocktail! Amazing food and beautiful ambiance 😍
Always love this place, service is always great and food never lets me down. We went for brunch this time and it was very good. Breakfast tacos were delicious. Dinner is equally great, had Brussel sprouts and the carrot and pepper dip to start, Greek salad with chicken and mushroom Bolognese. The pasta and carrot dip are tremendous.
Ambience is very nice. Good wine collection. Food menu is very limited. We tried 2 of the pastas and a chicken sandwich melt. The sandwich was really good but we didn’t like any of the pastas. They were dry and tasteless. The desserts and the starters were good and our waiter was very friendly and helpful.
Update a year later, place still looks good service still good and unfortunately food is not, order steak that why we came back, it turn out menu wasn’t updated I got New York strip instead filet mignon. It came almost cold and even not good as use to be. Fries there is the best but this time came cold and soggy. Very disappointed. Really good place with good food, and pretty unique interior and friendly stuff. Steak was really good.
We had a tasty and aesthetic dinner here! Vegan and vegetarian friendly. The burrata app was amazing (pictured), we each had a cocktail and entree, and shared an after dinner teapot. The restaurant is huge with full menu service at tables and at bar seating; trendy ambiance with lots of plants and light. Highly recommend.
Great resturant on the outside and inside. Good service and even better food. Stopped in and tried the sweetie fries and Waygu Sava Burger. It was delicious, but I would rather have a char-grilled buger. So it wasnt as enjoyable a burger as I wouldve liked. Also they didnt offer blue cheese as a cheese option. Sweetie fries were delicious however. Best sweet potato fries Ive had in a while.
Amazing!!! I got the Hippie Bowl for lunch and it was so good 🤩The food is so flavorful and the environment very aesthetic and comfortable. I think this is a must-stop place for me in Ann Arbor.
Absolutely incredible.I’m a huge foodie. This place is absolutely exceptional. The food, the atmosphere, the service. If Michelin rated restaurants in Ann Arbor I’d be confident in Sava’s getting a long look.10/10. Highly recommend the burger. It, and the fries, are delicious.Edit- came back for breakfast. Was also great
We ordered burrata, hippie bowl and chocolate dessert. Food was delicious, staff great. We enjoyed the dinner.
Very delicious food and the vibes were fantastic! Also Al was a great waiter and everything we had was on point.
I ordered the burger on an empty upset stomach and it filled me up perfectly. It was juicy and savory and I had a pleased time. It was the perfect place for a brunch especially with all the natural light filling the room. They also had a nice fruits and nuts bowl but it was blueberry heavy which I’m not a fan off but it took nothing away from my meal. Fries where a little too salty as well
This is the type of place you leave with lots of serotonin. I adored the design of the inside with all the plants and natural lighting! We got two different cocktails, the Sweetie fries, Cubano sandwich, Gemelli pasta, and the salted caramel white chocolate mousse for dessert. They really did not disappoint with anything we had. If you love food and good vibes this is the spot!
Environment is nice. Bang bang Shrimp is excellent. Chicken sandwich is good. Others just plain I guess.
Food is wonderful. If I could give 10/5, I would have rated it.One of the best black bean wrap I ever ate. Onion rings are extra crunchy. Smoked salmon on toasted sourdough was also very good
Quality and fundamentally good, yummy food. Known for their atmosphere and brunches, Sava will not disappoint.Service was prompt and good, with small opportunities for improvement. Centrally located on campus with nearby public parking.Just be aware the menu shifted from Vegan to include meat products. (Bacon was delicious give it a try as a side).
Loved this place!! Such a cute artsy inside, and the floors are adorable. Lots of food options, from salads to pasta. Elegant feel to the space and everything is served beautifully. My brunch was very fresh and enjoyable, I’ll definitely be back in the future.
First time here coming from the west side of the state. We found the establishment one of the best eateries of food compilations and mixed drink combinations. Great tasting soups and items off of the small plate menu. Very inviting front entrance and staff was well mannered and made you feel invited.Wife says that the washroom area has a great smelling candle.
I loved the ambience. We sat on the patio seating with heaters on creating a nice atmosphere. We ordered a triple dip platter which was very nice. All the dips had a distinct taste which was paired very well with the grilled pita. I ordered a Mezcal which was strong and tasted great! I ordered the chicken and sausage in the main entree, loved the meats(could have been better without the cabbage). The meats hid the veggies(carrots, green beans and cabbagepretty well but I still managed to avoid eating them.
This place is the equivalent of a really pretty person with a terrible personality. The restuarant has a high class, upper east side vibe but the food is something you might see on the try outs of masterchef from the contestants that didn’t make it on the show. The food was subpar. The fish tacos were tasteless, the home fries were undercooked and greasy, and i have made better turkey burgers when i was 10 years old. The best thing was the smoothies which at least brought a mood boost to the whole meal, the bang bang shrimp at least had a little fire of taste which at least gave them a little praise. I think they were rationing the flavors to their customers. But whoever designed the interior of the restaurant did a good job i just hope they they put the same effort and creativity in their menu.
Great place, great food. Live music every night on the patio as much as the weather permits. Lovely ambiance. Also, COVID-19 precautions are exceptionally done. Love going here and I recommend it highly.
Good fancy restaurant with high ceilings and an upper level with a bar, amazing food and great staff. Nice room/area ambiance and relaxing. Moderate noise level even when crowded, so you can still hold a conversation. Great place for celebrations or receptions. We spend 61 dollars for a group of 3. Unique place with one issue, deciding what to order. Greek salad with the black bean patty was excellent.
Savas does a nice job, but not great. The menu has limited and uncommon Gluten Free options, but can be workable. Staff is friendly, but a little green. Very nice decor for the holidays with a floor to ceiling fresh Christmas Tree. Odd that the restroom is in the basement.
I always come here when I am trying to spoil someone I like. The atmosphere is so cool and funky... the staff can not be beat... the food is amazing... it’s such a perfect time out. Today I went for desert with my daughter, the hostess gave us an amazing seat with a view and because the menu is always changing I asked for a recommendation and he was really great about asking what we liked and suggested the perfect dessert to share. LOVE THIS PLACE!
Savas is a gem: its a restaurant that gets it, whatever it is that helps a restaurant stand out. Starting with the location: very close to UMich campus but just a 100 ft away from the crazily busy State and Liberty intersection. And those 100 ft make it accessible but still a bit quiet. Ushers were friendly with a nice smile. Decor is elegant, warm, inviting without any pretensions. Our waitress, Rachel W, had a genuine smile on her face. This was the second time she waited on us and her demeanor was the same: genuine friendliness and charming smile. Food came optimally fast. Calamari was lightly breaded, enough crunchy but not chewy, with optimal amount of sauce and capers. The fish tacos made my wife, an excellent cook herself, happy. And my pulled pork sandwich was great in taste but a tad too dry. Rachel probably recognized that and gave us extra sauce with the leftover doggy bag. The dessert, a baklava cheesecake, was nice but the baklava totally over-powered the cheesecake layer. If we were not told that it was there, we couldnt have guessed the cheesecake layer as being that! But it was yummy nonetheless. The portions are appropriately sized, a tad on the generous side.Overall, a very nice date-ish experience!
Stopped by at around 5pm Monday. Didn’t have reservation, but didn’t have to wait. However, when we were done and leaving a little past 6pm, there seemed to be long wait.Food- I got pecan chicken salad and my husband got Greek salad. Both of us really liked our food. Pecan crusted chicken is fried and it goes really well with the salad topped with cranberries! I devoured my salad.Greek salad has a ball of feta cheese right in the middle and full of typical Greek salad ingredients. Dishes looked great and tasted goodService- our server was on point. Food came out exactly as we ordered and quickly. He gave us great recommendations.Ambiance & Interior decoration- it’s probably one of the well decorated places I’ve been to. Love the big windows, one section has pink walls with yellow and pink chairs which is bright and seems to be perfect for brunch. The lights along the bar is eye-catching and second level feel a bit more industrial and openLocation- right outside UM campus. Parking can be limited, we got lucky to find a spot right outside on the street.
The service was exceptional, the main dishes were awesome! Perfectly cooked and when I was unsure how I wanted my pork cooked, the server told me what the chef recommended! All of the staff was kind and attentive, the food was wonderful, although I dont think any of us were really wowed by the desserts.I look forward to visiting again!
Wow! This place is delicious! My girlfriend and I ate here on a Sunday for brunch. We both got the buffet, which rotates every week. The buffet is about $20 and comes with a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary. Got seated right away, quick and friendly service, and food was amazing. So many options and great taste for all. My favorite was the steak with mango salsa!
