Santurcia Hostel in San Juan

I stayed at 3 hostels during my time in PR. This one was by far superior. I stayed in Villa Palmeras (all female dormand it was super cute and clean like actually clean. Bathroom just for our room as well as others. Super close to the art museum, bookmark bookshop, and la placita for nightlife. I also met a really amazing friend also solo tripping. When I come back to PR, I will deff stay here and only here lol.

The rooftop is very cool with an open area to dance and party.

Got stranded at the door. Couldn’t get anyone to answer the door bell or the phone.

This is my first time visiting Puerto Rico and I was worried about sharing a room with people I dont know but this place went beyond any expectations. Starting with the loby which was very neat and clean, also the sweet lady at the reception who could speak English and Spanish was very friendly and was able to answer all my questions about the hostel and the area. I ended up making some friends in this amazing place. Please dont forget to visit the roof if you ever come to this place, its literally a piece of heaven. The only two cons about this hostel is that its not very easy to find on Google Maps ( I had to ask in the next buildingand they dont always provide locks for the lockers (please bring your own if you have valuable itemsbut its a safe place and I loved the experience.

Given the high reviews, I expected a lot more from this place. There was no hot water in the showers, no social events, and the kitchen was stifling hot most of the time. One of the three lockers we had in our rooms fully didn’t work and could be opened even if the lock was on. The terrace was one of the biggest appeals for us, but we didn’t end up using it much because of how lacking in energy and seating it was. There were also NO outlets on any of the top bunks and even some of the lower ones. I’ve never seen that before at a hostal and it was pretty frustrating, especially when someone on the top bunks alarms would go off early in the morning and they had to hike down to get it.Left early and tried to communicate these plans to the owner several days ahead of time to see if we could get a refund for the nights we didn’t stay and the owner ignored my calls and messages for three days, eventually calling and saying that they couldn’t refund because it was too late (conveniently after ignoring my request for three daysfor them to re-list the beds.Besides that, it was fine. The work space was the nicest part of the hostel, and the only air conditioned space besides the bedrooms. Staff was also very nice!For the price—I would recommend looking at AirBnbs, especially if traveling with friends. You can easily find places that are much nicer and higher value if splitting the cost with friends. If traveling alone, I wouldn’t expect to make many connections at this hostal but it’s a better option than some of the cheapest airbnbs that are similarly priced.P.S. there is a bizarre and slightly terrifying 3D art piece hanging in the work space on top of the couch (looks like a single red breast emerging from the dark with some tropical leaves painted at the bottom). I’m not kidding, it’s literally a protruding blood colored nipple/breast thing from a mostly black background. I don’t know what the thought behind putting it up was, but i highly highly recommend swapping it for something that won’t make guests uncomfortable.

Stayed in mixed dorm a month or so ago. Cleaning crew will wake you up at 6:00 AM by rattling all the lockers very loudly and walking around in dorm. Also the website is completely incorrect about policies such as check in times. Check in times and reception are not open when they say. It just depends on when they show up.

I had a fantastic stay here with a few things that could be worked on. I booked this hostel because it was the only one left that had female dorms available and Im so glad I chose them. The rooms were exactly as pictured and staff was super friendly and gave great customer service. I stayed about 6 days in the 4 bed all female dorm and had the best roommates. Each room gets there own shower and ours was very clean. Just a few things to note about the rooms was that if your on the top bunk your outlet is all the way down at the bottom of the bottom bunk and the ladder was kind of hard to use, there wasnt anything to really grab on to which I didnt realize when I requested the top bunk. Also it would be helpful to have a small lamp or something at each bed in the wall as Ive seen at other hostels. Each room was air conditioned except the kitchen, maybe add a fan somewhere? Also, these are small things but please add a mosquito catcher to the kitchen😫 because there are opened vents(?In there they get in and I got bit up. And I think you should change the type of trash can thats in the kitchen....it requires guest to use their fingers to opening lid which isnt very sanitary....just a cheap one with a pedal will do. Just one more thing to note, they do rent out the rooftop to non guest on weekends sometimes which I did not know. I get it, make that money anyway you can BUT maybe give the guest some rules because whoever was having a birthday party that night was obnoxiously loud and stomping and singing (screamingat the top of their lungs.....Im pretty sure they did it on purpose. Luckily I was leaving that night but the rest of my stay was very nice. Like I said these arent that big of a deal and the pros definitely outweigh any cons. Its in a great location with a grocery store nearby and a nice coffee shop across the street. Old San Juan is about a 15min UBER drive and the Art Museum is a block away. I highly recommend this place even with those few hiccups, its the best hostel Ive stayed at so far. I would definitely stay here again.

Santurica is one of the best hostel options in San Juan. Firstly it is Centrally located with plenty of food options around and close to the famous market place. Secondly the staff and service are amazing, they are proactive and reach out to ensure you have a good stay. Thirdly they have both dorms and private rooms to chose from depending on your budget and lifestyle. The private rooms are big and comfy!The dorms are great but could be better - having night lights, Power points in bunk beds would be great. The lockers in the dorms are old, and the paint is chipping which is a health hazard - advise you replace them. Metal sliver entered my skin while using the locker and could have been hazardous

So I am still here at Santurcia but I want to give a shout out to Ahmed (the ownerand the other staff because I had a situation and they immediately jumped in to help with no hassle or judgment. After an “interesting” stay in PR thus far I really appreciate their kindness. I am looking forward to my next 10 days here. Thank you. 🥰The only* complaint I have is I think they should put fans in the kitchen area as it gets pretty hot in there but the rest of the building is kinda cold at times so I guess it can be considered a haven for the more cold-natured folks. 😅

This place is the worst. I tried to rinse off in the communal shower before my flight but they wouldn’t let me finish because I checked out 45 minutes prior. Then they charged me $20 for the shower without evening telling me that they were going to do it. STAY AWAY

Amazing hostel so cute and chic I felt so at home and comfortable. Most importantly safe and taken care of. Highly recommend this hostel if you’re ever in the San Juan area. Walking distance to cafes and Ubers are relatively cheap. Thank you!!

This is my second time staying here. My previous experience last year in the private room was positive. This time in the mixed dorm, it’s somewhat disappointing. 10 people dorm is full. People in and out loud at night, talking loudly at 5 am, ppl from near bars standing right outside talking n singing really loud…. The list could go on.I stayed on the top bunk, and I wanted to let ppl know that things could fall from all 4 sides. It definitely looks more steady in the picture. The ladder to go up will cause them safety issues at some point—no place to hold onto while going up. Mind you I like rock climbing but not that fund of it when it’s dark at night with no light and when I’m tired.3 stars because the common area is still cute and clean. Overall its a hostel on the chill side. Also I wonder how many 5 star reviews are from ppl actually stayed there…

Amazing place to stay in San Juan. The best hostal in the city in my opinion after trying other places and located in a great spot. The staff are very accommodating and helpful. They are knowledgeable of the area and can give great recommendations to the many places that are within walking distance to go eat at. The value of my three weeks stay was unbeatable! I would definitely recommend staying here and booking directly through their personal website instead of through third party sites to get the best price. I will definitely return!!!

Wonderful communicative staff, clean rooms, efficient check in and checkout process. was only able to stay a night because of issue with our flight to SJO- will definitely stay longer next time as it would be a great place to chill for a few days. Thanks to the Santurce hostel for making our trip so easy!

No soap, no breakfast, no cofee, just to sleep and wifi.

Check in and check out were very east. Interior was decorated well - mainstream yuppie style. Living room had great AC, big clean kitchen, everything was clean, the rooftop was large and a nice environment to talk and relax. The staff are very kind. Good wifi for coworking. Lots of space to work. Cool art here. In a good location - 10 minutes from La Placita, next to a great musuem. They have recommendations for places to go on the walls. People who stay here are generally affable.Bring noise canceling earphones if you’re staying in dorms just in case people snore and etc.

Stayed here two weeks ago for a total of 4-days on a solo birthday trip. Everything leading up to it was great from booking and correspondence. But from the time I arrived, it went downhill…When I pulled up the taxi driver, kept saying “be careful.” From my research, the place was like a nightlife area but I guess post-Covid, not so much anymore. For a solo female traveler, it was not safe to be out after sunset so like 8 pm, homeless people, graffiti, etc. not the best neighborhood.About the hostel:1they bunked me with a girl with a known and active Staph infection. I had to be personally responsible for being an OCD cleaner to make sure it wasn’t passed to me.2the only thing I wanted was a shower, they had one working shower for over a half-dozen girls, the bathroom was flooded and I was told that it’s flooded every day & had been for wks b/c owners refuse to fix it. And they were rt, standing water, and a flooded bathroom every day.3I took cold showers the 4-days I was there. Another girl had been there for 2 wks and said she’d never had hot water. At night the A/C had me freezing.4I stayed in San Mateo. It was a pig sty. The floor was always covered in clothes, trash, suitcases, etc. It looked like an episode of hoarders. The management made the occupants clean up once but that lasted a few hours. The nastiness was an everyday occurrence. It’s just a known problem that mgmt refuses to speak up about, leaving others to have to live in squalor. One girl had multiple a.m. alarms set in the morning that she would press snooze on and people have no problem coming in and out loudly at all hours of the night. There are no “house rules “ that enforce a standard so that some guests are not infringing on the shared space of others.5Power outage, this was bigger than the hostel but it was a big inconvenience for 1-day of the trip. In the dark, no a/c, can’t charge your phone, etc6I got home and got slapped with an additional $70 bill. $10 for an extra sheet for when I was cold (that they told me I wouldn’t be charged forand $60 for wasting wine on my sheets. The charge was insult to injury and left a really bad taste in my mouth. It doesn’t cost $60 bucks to launder items. & You don’t do people that way when they’ve been subjected to your s* all week and basically grin and bear.I gave it two stars because the staff was friendly. But after all the problems, you’d think they’d be offering me money back but instead, I was charged more money. This makes me feel they are not friendly at all and they are really just shysters. Bad vibes.First time staying in a hostel and I won’t say it’s my last but I will never stay at this one again.I’d stay somewhere cleaner, safer, that is well-run by management, and that isn’t trying to nickel-and-dime you for everything.

Absolutely fantastic!! Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful (Javieha is a Queen!). The hostel is beautiful and homely with a view and location is actually more accessible than most other options. Will definitely be coming back!!

Went on an all girls trip felt very safe the whole time! I love all the security needed to enter the building (have to have a key card and get through 2 doors before being able to enter at all). The setup was beautiful looked like an ikea setup. So many plants it was soothing to see them all around. Veryyyyy clean & it smelled greeaatttttt. Gave me an authentic feel, I enjoyed that greatly. The Owner is amazinggg super helpful, kind and attentive to all your possible questions pertaining to the hostel and anything else concerning your trip. Highly recommend to anyone going to visit PR & it’s in a great area many things are walking distance (places to eat, grocery store, convenient store etc.).

I came to Puerto Rico and booked my stay at Santurcia Hostel on a whim—so I came into this trip with almost no expectations. But even if I had researched for months and had the highest expectations, my experience at Santurcia would have far exceeded them. Every single employee I encountered during my 7 day stay was incredibly warm and welcoming. The hostel itself was so well kept—every inch of the space was cleaned meticulously throughout the day (I know this because I spent most of my time working in the lobby and saw all of the employees cleaning throughout the day). All of the amenities offered were great, and I would 10/10 stay here again.

This Review Has Been A Long Time In The Making...I Bid Farewell To 2018 & Stayed There For A Week After. The Staff There Were Super Cool & The Majority Of Them Were College Students, They Spoke English, And Were Very Organized. I Asked If There Were A Computer Cafe Close By And The Owner Offered To Let Me Use Hers As Long As I Wanted, HOW COOL WAS THAT! Later On She Gave Me A Pamphlet About A Computer Cafe (THAT I LOSTClose By The Hostel, Now What Did That Tell Me? That They Care And Listen To Their Guests Needs, So If You Are Planning On Staying Here, Know That They Are Very Professional, There Is A Computer Cafe Near By, A Supermarket Close By; As Well As Hot Food. The Beds Are Comfortable, Clean Sheets, Cool Staff And A Great View From The Roof. Oh And Did I Mention It Was Cheap?Thanks For The Lovely & Peaceful Stay At Santurcia Hostel.

This was by far the best hostel experience I’ve had. The staff are so kind and helpful. The hostel is very clean and cozy and all the ppl are super social. Ended up making a bunch of friends :)

Omg this place is amazing! My very first hostel, so I was a little nervous. Very clean, amazing staff and owners, the rooftop terrace is awesome, and an amazing way to meet people! They have definitely set the bar extremely high! I can honestly say I had the time of my life and this place had alot to do with it. Much love ❤

I first want to say how much I appreciate the owners and and the staff on how professional they are. The amount of love they share for their guess is amazing. I booked the hostel for the very first time flying in from virginia (norfolkfor my 30th birthday. From the minute I walked in , I knew I fit right in. I met some incredible individuals that stayed in the hostel with me. The cleanliness throughout was top notch. The rooftop was so refreshing. The art along the walls was so creative. I felt more like a local and there is so much to see in walking distance. Very nice location and restaurant to try. The husband and wife are some really cool people to be around. I have to say this trip was well worth it and I plan to come back!! Thank you . Thank you thank you!!!

The people who manage the place are so warm and inviting! They have so many great ideas for day trips and know the country with connections everywhere! The hostel was always clean the people who stay here are so nice and it’s within walking distance of everything you could possibly want and more! You couldn’t pick a better spot!

Very clean hostal and nice location. I was sad because the bar inside the hostal was not opened and that was one of the reason why I stayed there. A little boring. There is not hostal ambience :-(. But, it is very clean.

It is one of the best hostel I have ever been. The location is excellent just 10 minutes walks from the beach and 5 minutes walk to La placita. The area is very safe, the parking on the street is easy and available. The staff are very friendly and the owner ahmef is more friendly. The hostel is very clean. There is also a very nice rooftop. In addition to all of that the price is very reasonable

This hostel was amazing, clean and great location! We appreciated all the help from the workers, one told us a great beach to go to and Pablo was very helpful as well. It is very cute and modern, cool art and close to La Placita and a few other good places to go out. People staying in it were friendly as well.

Easy check in.Free street parking, easy to find a spot.Instagrammable spaces.It’s a very intimate hostel, gives you homely feeling.They charge 3$ for a towel.Breakfast is not that great. If you’re late then you’ll have to manage with whatever is available.Worst part is you don’t get to control the temperature. They keep the AC remote.

As my first hostel, they set the standard very high! Staff if very kind and helpful with guests. The building is very well kept, and the rooms are very clean. I would highly recommend for visitors!

I enjoyed my stay here was a little iffy at first but it was a great place to hang out and chill I have an ice cream spot down there call Pals and theres a cool little bar down the street I cant remember the name but it was really nice I can see myself staying here again the rooftop was phenomenal

What a superb hostel! This is a very contemporary overnightery, very clean and complete with a modern kitchen and extremely enthusiastic/knowledgeable/friendly staff. I really liked the individual rectangular box concept in the mixed dorm. The common room & dining area are excellent. The Free Brekkie is good—fruit (tangerines today), bagels, croissants, hot coffee, milk, peanut butter, jelly.The greatest challenge is that it blends in too well with the ATM; I thought the door beside it was strictly for repairing/replenishing the money dispenser—looking up reveals the initials.I was wandering/standing about/too much in confusion when one of the owner/operators of the adjacent PALS cereal bar kindly poked his head outside the entrance to direct me. Apparently I am not the first hosteller who has been befuddled!This is not ACCEPTABLE for any hosteller more severely disabled than me (I have to use a walking stick/cane and move quite slowly!However, I definitely recommend this hostel to everyone else, and it has my enthusiastic “Wheel of Approval!”

Overall I had a great stay here. Its very clean, the staff is great, theres good security measures, fully stocked kitchen, and a free breakfast (not fancy but definitely adequate). The beach is about a 20 minute walk away.Some things to know (not necessarily good or bad, more like FYIs).1All bathrooms are shared, even if you have a private room.2there is only wifi in the "living room" area. I did wish it was available throughout the place.3Totally a matter of personal taste, but I found the mattress to be on the very firm side.4Old San Juan is about 15 minutes drive ($10-15 via Uberaway. 10 min to airport.5It has a lovely roof area.6They keep strict quiet hours and its not a party hostel (A+).

The people are young, loud, and annoying, but that’s hostel life. Otherwise, the staff is lovely, the private room was fantastic, and the whole hostel is just so cute!

This was the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in and the owners were very helpful and nice. It was very clean and secure with 3 keys/ codes to get through in order to get to your room. There is also a big locker to put your things in. There is a big clean kitchen where you can make your own food. By far my best hostel experience.

WOW! I didnt want to leave! The owners Camilla & Ahmed are now my family! Ill be honest, they say if it sounds too good to be true, its probably not true........right? Well wrong! This place is real! At first I was not sure, well mainly because they are so new and there were hardly any reviews when I was looking. However, after I checked out their FB profile and saw pics of the construction work and found that they have their own legit website I was ready to pack my bags with confidence that I had made the right choice. I couldnt have found a better hostel. This place is just right in size, here you have enough room to be seen and heard and to make connections with some of the other guests that come through. The owners are both available to answer your questions or will find the answers for you. They ROCK so be kind to them! They keep everything spotless and the kitchen always stocked with fresh tropical fruits and basics every morning. Most importantly they had a fresh cup of this amazing local coffee brewed and ready every morning when I got up. I will be back very soon and will only stay here from now on! I would give them 100 stars if I could!

The hostal un fact is good, the staff is very friendly and helpful. However, not all the beds have curtains which make it not so private, and the breakfast time is till 9:30. In my experience I slept with people who didnt respect the sleep time of others so I never woke up on time for breakfast, shame.The kitchen is very well equipped and the rooftop its beautiful, good job.

This place made me feel right at home. The owners are AWESOME and will go above and beyond for each guest toto make them feel right at home. I am definitely staying here when I come back. Hopefully theyll remember me! More than highly recommend this place! Lots of restaurants around and I felt very safe in the hostel and around it.

I have never experienced friendlier and more personal staff at any kind of accommodation. This ‘hostel’ feels more like a boutique hotel, it is located in a trendy area and the people were very outgoing but respectful. I hope it won’t be too long until I can return. Impeccable cleanliness! Thank you for putting so much effort into running this beautiful home.

This was the best Hostel I have stayed at in Puerto Rico. The staff was amazing and the Puerto Rican couple who owns it created a home away from home for there guests that provides safety, security and an environment that breeds interaction with other guests. If you are a low-budget traveling investor this is the perfect place to stay. I look forward in sending my friends and family their when they come to visit me on the island.

Absolutely and truly amazing, it bleeds authenticity for any traveler that desires a truly warm experience. The hostel owners are so amazing! When I decided to book this place they had one review, so I had to call and ask them one question. Are the pictures real :), yes they replied. So I decided to give it a whirl. Best decision Ive made about staying in a hostel, especially the right hostel. Here you start of on a beautiful relationship, with warm and true respect. If you needed that authentic experience like me, I hope to see you while I am still around! Had to extend my stay in PR, just on their hostel alone. If you need places to go, they have friends literally everywhere. My week is turning into a month :. Their very affordable and accommodating, they resolve those who havent matured with quickly and discretely. And yes, the guests here seem to share that same warmth, I guess its contagious, one smile turns into many, to laughter, to friendship. I have met wonderful people, and I regret misjudging some kind people like kelan from Canada, good dude! Theirs been some really cool people to hang out with, hitting the beaches and such. Everything is very, very close by. So if your not here, your simply not getting the trip you deserve. Come stay and meet a warm community who come and go and Im sure who will return time and again. This place is literally not what I expected. My standards were so much lower that I was in awe my whole stay here. This place is so homey and relaxing. If I could change my flight I would’ve extended my stay. If you are looking for a home away from home look no further! The place is super spacious, secure and clean.The owners Ahmed and Camila made the experience even better. They are so helpful, funny and have very good recommendations. It’s walking distance to Condado Beach, tasty restaurants, and lively nightlife in Santruce. The rooftop is so nice whether you want to sit in the sun, have some lunch or just relax. Sidenote: Be sure to make a meal in the fully stocked kitchen! I made fresh smoothies everyday.

Loved our stay here! Very clean and cozy with a twist of urban style. Close to parking lots, museums, restaurants... You can walk around to explore the city. The owners are very nice and attentive like rest of the staff. I recommend this hostel for your next visit in San Juan.

I am never staying anywhere else when I visit Puerto Rico! (which is fairly often to get to my home on St Croix.)Seriously, this place has it all. Not only is it very affordable, clean, in a great location, and with a *fully* stocked kitchen (this is important because dining out in Puerto Rico is not cheap), but the host, Camila, is beyond accommodating.Before I even arrived she emailed me her cell number so I could call her with any questions. When I got there, she opened a bottle of wine just for me (on the house!and we just talked for an hour about traveling, hurricanes, and life. I know I made a real friend that I can’t wait to visit again!The hostel is also in a perfect place for money-conscious travelers. It’s just a $10 uber ride from the airport and literally around the corner from museums, cafes, bars, and a full grocery store. Plus, the beach is only a half mile away, and Old San Juan, another $10 uber. And security in the hostel is amazing, with electronic key cards for two outside doors, a keypad for each dorm room, and then locks on all the lockers. I felt totally safe in the neighborhood anyway, there were people out and about walking their little dogs even late at night.And if you’re looking at the photos thinking “No way that place actually looks like that,” it looks exactly like that. So clean, great wifi in the living room, with amazing AC in the dorm room, I actually had to turn it down I was so chilly! All the art is by local artists that Camila met when she ran an art gallery. And the rooftop area is amazing. The bar isn’t quite ready yet, but I immensely enjoyed just sitting up there watching the sunset and stars come out.If you’re reading this, thank you so so much Camila! I’ll be back as soon as I can! And maybe never leave 😅
