Santa's Igloos Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi
Description
Place was clean and nice. Service was great! Staff catered to our needs even though we were the only customers staying in this period. Thumbs up!!!
MoreDUST everywhere in the room. Tooo much of dust. There are NO receptionist. Incase of some emergeny , u ll need to wait about 40-45mins to get some staff to reach you.The view is beautiful , Aurora alarm working well. Thats all the good point.
MoreEverything was great. What stood out to me was the Restaurant and our waiter named Eero.
MoreMy review is a little bias because we spotted the Aurora Borealis from there which was by chance and totally unexpected. The lights put on a show for a good 45 minutes. The hotel sends you alerts on the electronic devices in your room. The room was beautiful with the magnificent glass panels and ceiling, gorgeous to sleep under the stars if its not covered with snow. The amenities are extremely basic for the price you pay @700euros. Just a kettle provided with no cups nor any tea or coffee. Also disappointing is that there is no spa facility of even a basic sauna or steam. The breakfast served is nice and substantial but the restaurant is closed for lunch and open again only for dinner from 5pm onwards. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and obliging which made the experience a little better. The hotel is very well located, close to the husky park and Santas village. Overall a great experience but for the price you pay and amenities you get will have to rethink visiting again.Aniysha & Emil Seyfferdt
MoreI think it was my best hotel experience ever. So wonderful place. Amazingly kind and thoughtful staff. Dinner at the restaurant was as perfect as it could be. We did sleep so well. Igloo was not big but big enough and so well designed. Fantastic. Definitely worth the money. I would like to go there again. Did I mention that the breakfast was also great. So many choices, local too. Warmly recommend.
MoreThe staff was very friendly and the reservation included both breakfast and a dinner entree at the hotel restaurant. The room was cozy and we enjoyed the sauna in our upgraded room. The bed was not the most comfortable and I believe it could have been a little nicer for the price we paid but overall we really enjoyed our stay here!
MoreFriendly service, nice and peaceful location. It was nice to order dinner to the glass igloo and enjoy the evening with excellent dishes and relax in the sauna.
MoreMy partner and I visited 24-26 December 2021. We had the most amazing time and loved every moment of our stay at the igloos. The walk to Santas Village was short enough to feel close to everything, but long enough that we felt removed from the crowds and business of it all. The igloos are like a little oasis in the midst of this tourist area. The front desk staff were helpful with everything we needed and the restaurant/bar staff went out of their way to accommodate my dietary needs and my partners love of good coffee. We enjoyed drinks in the lobby/lounge each night and felt we had plenty of distance from other guests for Covid safety. Our igloo was beautiful and comfortable. The only complaint was my partner woke up each time the inside heater turned on/off, but I didnt notice it.Some specifics that might be useful for other travelers:- My partner and I are both women and we felt incredibly welcomed by the staff at the igloos. I am a critical researcher and usually pick up on any micro-aggressions but sensed none. It felt like a very inclusive space!- I am vegan, my partner is not. The staff were patient with me and helped me identify what I could/could not eat. The chef prepared some special dishes for me at the buffet dinner, and the bar staff checked ingredients for certain drinks when I asked. Overall, I dont like to put people out with my diet, but I never felt like I was a burden during our stay.- The igloos were perfectly warm inside even during the coldest of temps (-15 to -20 cand there are robes and slippers inside.- The bathrooms are completely enclosed in the igloos, so you have complete privacy inside and out. Plus the floors are heated - total luxury!- We saw the northern lights both nights during our stay, even though the chances were just moderate. We took walks around the grounds to check for them every hour or so during the evenings. My partner greatly enjoyed aurora hunting between drinks in the lounge. :)- We arrived at noon on check-in day and left our bags in the secure baggage area while we went and explored Santas Village. We returned around 5pm to move into our igloo and it was a seamless process. If youre thinking of booking, I highly recommend the igloos.
MoreGreat place, very good food and service. Just be careful and dont rely on the aurora alert in your room. Use own app. Place recommended.
More1This is not an igloo. They just have half of their roof as glass. If you want glass igloo, check other hotels.2Igloos are located very close to each other. Hence, no privacy.3Food sucks unless you love oriental flavors. They dont have European flavors or any other local flavor. For vegeterians, there is hardly any options unlike other hotels.4Breakfast spread is literally porridge(hot meals). Nothing more than that.5If you are coming via public transport, getting the hotel with luggage is a nightmare.6No chance for aurora sighting. For that you will have to take a specialized tour, irrespective of the hotel you have taken.7Not even basic toiletries were provided.8Floor heating is uneven which makes it even more uncomfortable.
MoreEverything is pure bliss ! Location, igloo, cuisine, staff, cocktails! Definitely a good place to stay at :a little pricey for sure but what can you expect being in the Arctic circle
MoreBeautiful place for enjoying the stunning scenery, and Northern lights. The igloos are warm and comfortable, with a lovely view of the sky at night through the glass roof.
MoreWe have just checked out, and I have to say that the only good thing I enjoyed about the hotel was dinner, that’s about it.Overpriced for what you get.Nobody to help with luggage because in the morning there is only 1 person working.. specially during this high season??Rooms are normal.. really nothing special.. We did have some cold moments during the night as not the whole floor is heated and the system does switch off for a small period.I was sold by the pictures on the website and the possibility to see the Auroras while in bed, of course this didn’t happen. They do not serve lunch at all and there is no room service. If you smoke, the outdoor area to smoke is horrible, there is a place for a fire, but they never make the fire, I only saw it once on. The chairs are cold…Honestly I think this is just a tourist trap. And when you express your feelings from your experience the reply you get is, okay. They have 1 person working to handle the whole hotel? This is just pure bad management.
MoreDo not book here! its a disaster. The room is too basic for what it costs! It has no amenities. The hotel restaurant is the disastrous thing I saw. A total disappointment. Loss of money.
MoreGreat Experience, thanks again!
Very bad. I had to wake up two times at 1am and 5am because the heat machine started to make annoyed noise and they turned off and in the morning the room was very cold
MoreAmazing place, everything was so great ! The room, the breackfast and of course the personel, which was amazingly helpful and caring. The hotel is 5mn walk to the Santa Village which was a huge good point. Many beautiful places for walking arround. The room was cozy and confortable, the view on the sky amazing ! I would like to thank the staff again for this great experience!PS : If the hotels restaurant is close, you may have trouble finding something to eat for dinner as all restaurants from Santa village are closed after 16:00, and the last bus from Rovaniemis town is at 18:30.
MoreNice setup. Just right size for 2. We have the basic igloo no sauna.
Very beautiful igloo and amazing view... The first igloo they assigned us had some electricity problems... So kind to change us in another one with sauna because of trouble... Thanks a lot
MoreAmazing.....one of the most romantic hotels I have ever been to. 👌
Amazing place in Santa’s Artic Village. These igloo homes are well done, allow for viewing northern lights at night, great accessibility to the village with activities, staff is friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful experience and saw the lights from the comfort of our igloo hotel.
MoreAmazing place to stay when visiting Santa Claus village. Beautiful igloos want to spend my whole day inside. Couldn’t image how amazing it would be to see the northern light inside
MoreThis is too expencive for what they offer. First impression is that room is too small, but it may be ok for others. No floor heating in bathroom, so its little bit cold there. Simple shower gel for everything, no brushes etc.Empty fridge and mini bar!! This is so weird.Check-in from 16 when its already dark, check out from 11, but i had a train so i leave at 9 when it was dark, i didnt saw this igloo and place at day light. They are leaving 5(!!Hours to clean this place but there were some dust, i have allergy on dust and i felt it there.Noisy heating, could not sleep good there.Locations of igloos probably is the worst thing here, only few igloos have view to the trees or something different, all other igloos has front view to back of other igloos or to the hotel. Light from cars all the night. One thing that was annoying is that our igloo had front view to the hotel, and when aurora starts, light from hotel was too strong and i barely saw aurora from igloo so i ended up with walking outside away from hotel and observe aurora, got luck to see it.Advice for those who is planning to see aurora, drive 200-300 km to north and find different glass igloo, they will have more visibility and aurora observation. Rovaniemy located on the edge of it. Id pay max 200-300 euro per night for this hotel, it not worth it.
MoreJust magical. Its like in a movie, no, really..!We unfortunately missed seeing the Aurora, but it was a wonderful experience nonetheless. Excellent breakfast
MoreRimantic hotel with a wonderful xmas feeling. The rooms are big enough. If you can upgrade to a room with sauna, make it more romantic. Snow everywhere. The surrounding area is pitch dark and you can watch the stars from outside or from the glass ceiling of your igloo. The ceiling glass is heated so you donot have to worry about the snow. The restaurant area is busy if the hotel is full. The reception area is small but there is a cozy lounge area. You can enjoy a hot chocolate while watching the snow fall. 10min. walking distance to St. Claus Village, very convenient, also close to the city center. Definetely recommended if you are looking for a romantic xmas time.
MoreTerrible experience given the view from our igloo and the fact that they had lights on so we couldn’t see the lights unless we went to the extreme end of the property to get a tiny glimpse. We got a corner igloo (800eur for one nightwith trees on two sides and another igloo on the third so the sky was visible only from the roof. It didn’t feel like living in an igloo at all given the view and the fact that it’s not a whole round igloo (only half). Add to that how the staff refused to change the room or switch the lights off. Hated every minute and really wish I had used the money elsewhere.
MoreWe had a great experience in here. It’s a very nice room and area that we can have snowball fight, outdoor activities with my kids.
MoreVery nice igloo. Room is clean and tidy. Foods serve in the restaurant is great and price $$$ EUR50 - EUR60 per pax.
MoreSmall but cosy glass igloo hut. Remember to press the defrosting button next to the main door to keep the glass ceiling of the igloo clear of snow and frosts. Great view of the night sky, however, you can only see the sky if you turn off all the lights in your room. Else it acts as a mirror due to the reflection then you wont be able to see the sky. We didnt see the aurora but the night sky full of stars is still a great experience. And the rooms come with an aurora alert so you can rest assure and go sleep until the alarm goes off. The only down side for me is the quality of the bed. I had a bad bed and didnt sleep well the whole night. Other than that, definitely a great experience
MoreOur stay at Santas Igloo was fantastic. The rooms were beautiful, the reception was lovely and the food in the restaurant was great. Only thing was too much salt in my main meal.I have to give a special mention to Pinja, she was so warm and welcoming. Making everyones stay that extra bit special. She is a true credit to your team!
MoreAn amazing place to stay and I cant wait to come back.
Fantastic place, priced higher but amazing stay
Peaceful location in a bit forest, I think it is possible to see Aurora if it comes.but I got a snowing evening.anyway, still feel good, warm service, nice breakfast, really interesting experience in igloo.one more thing is they have eye musk in room so that you wont be disturbed by morning sun.
MoreLovely place, excellent service & delicious food!
Igloo was a bit cramped for bedroom space. We were there to catch the northern lights in bed but were thoroughly disappointed. We think photos northern lights shimmering over igloo are photoshopped.
MoreWe had 6 igloos..2 heaters mot working properly...food iffy..drinks crazy expensive...they sell the igloos to see northern lights but are set in centre of light polution..adverts are like you can always see lights...false ads
MoreVery very beautiful in the night and day during wintwrs it is magical. The restaurant has a limited but gourmet quality food. Very friendly staff and the attached suana in the igloo is great for sharing time together.
MoreDuring winter season, snow level can get up-to 10cm. Great view from the hotel room to catch shooting stars and northern lights.
MoreVery nice glass igloo, good facilities and friendly staff
Tablet for Aurora alarm was low batt. Spend quite awhile figuring out where to charge . Only one pair of slippers when there were 2 guests..
MoreGreat experience and good chance to see the Northern Lights. Even if you dont, what a view of the stars!
MoreNice, new, clean room with absolutely the best view of Finnish sky. Food at restaurant was great as well
MoreAmazing accommodation place not only for those whos looking for the Northern Lights. Very good location on the Arctic Circle near tve Santa Claus Office in Santa Claus Village. ten minutes by car from Rovaniemi city center. Also public bus connwction exists, bus goes once an hour
MoreNot up to expectation given the highest price in the world; room condition and service to be improved. Good for those who have not seen snow in the winter.
MoreWe order food for four of us, and after that the waiter told us not to bring any kind of food and drink from outside. And We totally agree with that, since We already ordered many from the restaurant, and when the foods are served the waiter told us that We also cant use our own chilli sauce to have with the fish that we order before....he said aroganly that it breaking the law...weve been travelling europe many times and many destinations, and never experience this kind of arogant waiter..YOU need to understand that were asian need something familiar to help eat your tasteless food ! ....dont say about the law...you just need to think logically with your brain to judge if we can use our own chilli sauce! Just better be caution with the cheap service level of this not to cheap hotel.
MoreMissed this place so much. We were there in December 2016 when they have newly built glass igloo. We happened to be the very first occupants of the new built glass igloo. Our very first sightings of Northern lights was at the igloo. Very good experience! They also gift us souvenirs (a beanie for each of us and Finland fridge magnets). The cloudberry juice theu provide is very nice. Would like to visit again. A very memorable trip.
MoreYou need to pay for €25 to borrow fork and spoon in the room. If you want to have it free, you need to take yourself by walking 200m with -5C weather. Unfriendly service for expensive hotel.
MoreThe igloo itself was pretty nice, and really classy, but the roof heating system was lackluster, and the ice wouldn’t melt. Also, the service was terrible to say the least. There is no way to call the reception directly, and the only way to ask for anything is through a chat, with a tablet provided in the room. However, it was practically non-existent as there were no responses. The one that really got on all our nerves was the fact that there was no alarm provided even when there was a supposed aurora sighting.
MoreGood accommodation but too much light pollution
Igloos were very new and quite nice, to the point the reception was in a rented shipping container (but nicely fitted out). It was a 5 minute walk to the rest of the Santa village. They provided a hefty but cold included breakfast.Unfortunately we had a cloudy night so no northern lights, but the igloos are designed perfectly should they appear.
