My wife was thrilled with the size of the park and the numerous buildings from throughout Japan that have been relocated here. A friendly guide introduced us to the garden and told us that fish food is only 50¥ if you walk a bit further away from the water. The lookout post is a dud (mostly just a view of the freewaybut everything else is pretty spectacular. 700¥ for adults, 200¥ for elementary and we paid 600¥ for parking.

If this garden was located in central Tokyo it would be undoubtedly one of the most visited attractions. The access requires taking a bus or a taxi, but it is totally worth. You can experience a relaxing walk between old temples and traditional tea-houses, some of which were rebuilt here from Kyoto in the last century.

A beautifully landscaped park with many cherry trees and interesting old Japanese houses, which were brought to Yokohama especially for an exhibition. There are many beautiful corners, which always present a new romantic view. Some bridges, streams, the lake and water birds make you forget the everyday life for a moment.

It’s very big and has nice sceneries, but I imagined it way better. Best part is the view spot on top of the mountain looking towards the Yokohama bay.

Bordering are many industrial plants with toxic smell and fumes. Depending on wind direction , you will breath in many toxic gas and fumes. I will never go back here.

Built in 1457, this three-story pagoda, is the oldest building in Sankeien Garden and the oldest building in the whole Kanto region. This is the most mind blowing fact that I just learned today, March 24th. I admire Japan for maintaining and keeping their treasures visible to the public.Walking around this garden is such a soulful experience. It’s so beautiful with minimalist natural setting designed to inspire reflection and meditation. I❤️Japan!

I’ve only visited here for a friend’s wedding before (which was also lovelybut visiting just for a walk was spectacular on this fine day. The landscape is beautiful and it should be even more enjoyable in the coming season of the blossoming apricots in February/March. It’s astonishing that this property was personally owned and created by a successful businessman which reminded me that Japan used to be the top silk producers in the world in the 1900s.The garden is away from train stations so it would be easier to visit if you have a car.

In the evening, I take a walk at Sankeien Garden, an ancient garden that is 152 years old.Rough History Sankeien Garden was built during the Meiji era, designed and built by Mr. Tomitaro Hara (原 富 太郎(in 1868), known as the sankeihara, he was a merchant of SilkAlmost all of the wooden buildings are historic buildings that Hara has bought from places around Japan, such as those from Tokyo, Kyoto and Kamakura and Gifu Prefecture and Wakayama Prefecture. This garden Declared an Important Cultural Property Considered a tangible Japanese cultural property, which was determined by Yokohama politics, San Gei Garden was severely damaged during World War II. This park was donated to Yokohama in 2009. In 1953, which was entrusted to the Sangen Foundation, the garden was then restored to its original condition before the war.The garden occupies a total area of 175,000 square meters with pools, streams and undulating trails. There is a Japanese-style garden designed by Sangehara himself, including a teak building. Many of the old buildings, such as Tomyo-ji and the ancient three-story wooden pagoda (旧 燈 明 寺 三重 塔), were originally built in Kyoto in 2000 and relocated in 1914 and the former Yanohara House. (旧 矢 箆 原 家 住宅was originally a private residence of the Yanohara family Was moved to the garden as wellWorks in the gardens began in 1902 and ended in 1908, two years after it was opened to the public. During Hanas lifetime, this place became a gathering point for Meiji artists .World War II devastated many buildings in 1953. The park was donated by the Hara family to Yokohama, where the Sangen Hoshokai Foundation was built for repairs. And maintain Restoration began in 1953, and five years later the garden was restored and opened to the public again. The Japanese government has designated 10 structures in Sankeien Garden as important cultural properties, while the other three are tangible cultural properties designated by Yokohama. [This garden is popular for Cherry blossom viewing Ume blossoms and autumn leaves For the sensation of walking through this park during the absence of foreigners during COVID. It was so beautiful and so peaceful. There are many kinds of trees that look shady. Has a feeling of being in ancient times There is a vast lake There are pelicans, teal, cats, and turtles and squirrels. As for the old wooden house in the garden, it exhibits the objects and their old style. I was impressed to come to such a beautiful and valuable place.

Very lively place to visit in Yokohama. The park is huge and it charges about 700 yen for normal adults. Freshness while roaming the garden gives you a peaceful and beautiful feeling. Visiting during morning or evening is best. But make sure to visit before 5 pm as it closes at 5 Pm.

I love visiting here in all seasons, not only to see the gardens, but to see the old houses/buildings, and the tea hut. Right now (Februaryyou can have a nice complimentary cup of hot tea and look out over the lake. Definitely worth a visit for an hour or longer, depending on how much you want to see (and relax). Regular entrance fee for adults is Y700. The annual pass is only Y2000.

Peaceful and quiet, a great place experience the traditional Japanese garden. The collection of ancient buildings and houses is a joy to visit. Climb the hill to find a nice point of view and a three-story pagoda. And then go back down and enjoy koi ponds, a small museum and matcha.

I visit Sankeien at least once a year, and I always enjoy myself! It’s quite a large and peaceful park. There are so many historical buildings to appreciate. The free English tour guides are very knowledgeable too! Keep an eye out for special events—we went to a lovely moon viewing concert recently, and the park looked so different at night. The little food/tea shops are good as well!

Beautiful garden. Great afternoon walk. Loved the landscape, flowers, lake full with fish. Thanks to a couple of kids feeding the fish in the lake, it was a memorable trip. We were escorted by a retired engineer who loves to volunteer as a guide in this park. He directed us to a wonderful lunch spot.

Very nice and pretty, you can probably finish touring the park in an hour unless you choose to do a green tea session (last one at 4pm- I missed it). Lots of good photo spots. Unfortunately the three floor pagoda with an observatory was shut down (3/31and I didnt feel like I got my moneys worth (700 yen), however I enjoyed my time here.

First brief visit on a whim, just 1hr before closing (closes at 5pmand was absolutely worth it. Came from Tokyo; after Yokohama Landmark Tower chanced taking a bus to this place (#106 or #8 to Sakura Michi stop which is 4 min walk to the gardenIf you plan to return by the bus, adding 5-10 min to your departure time in Google maps might offer an easier to find bus stop option. Next time I will come in earlier...you can easily spend hours here even just walking around; with better planning, attending event would be even more exciting.

A lovely park and definitely worth a visit. A lot of Japanese flora, historical houses that have been brought to the park after it got heavily bombed during world war 2 by US forces. It got rebuilt.as a really lovely park. You will also find a couple of cats running around. Unfortunately it is a bit noisy as highways are running around. Parking facilities are available for a reasonable price and the entrance fee is worthy.

Brilliant in one word. These gardens are a welcome retreat from the huddle and bussle. Whether its to feed the carp or take a stroll through the gardens and soak up the beautiful architecture. What is also great is the history of the gardens that you uncover as you go around.

I’ve been to several gardens in/near Tokyo and I loved this one! I cannot wait to go there during autumn and during cherry blossom season. We brought family to the tea ceremony and then enjoyed it.The garden is quite large compared to some others I have been to. There were many old buildings that have been transported from Kyoto. It is beautiful. If walking through slowly, you could easily spend a few hours here.

Its a nice beautiful place in the vicinity of Yokohama city. The garden is very beautiful and peaceful with lots of trees, lake and old houses collected here from different parts of Japan. Have at least 3-4 hours to see this place in a relaxed way. The garden also organizes light shows in evening during Sakura festival. The place is also interesting for children as they can see Turtles, Ducks and plenty of fishes in the lake. This is a nice place to visit.

This Japanese garden is quite big and beautiful. There are so many little nooks and crannies to explore! They have pond full of carpet and koi. It was not very busy so it was good to just stop and enjoy. They have a nice gift shop where you can enjoy Japanese sweets and tea. They also have a variety of different buildings that were brought in from different parts of Japan to be restored and kept. You can even go into some!

Wonderful garden. I was so surprised how big it was when I went with my friend for the first time. There are so many historical buildings that come from many different places in Japan like Kyoto for example. Additionally, they have performances that you can see and a place where you can buy souvenirs if you desire. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. Ive attached my best photos to this review so you can have a taste of what I was able to experience at this garden. I felt like I could spend a whole day here to explore.

Going here is the best experience I had from my recent trip to Japan. The garden itself is serene with a lot of history in it. I appreciate very much that when you enter the garden, there are volunteer tour guides who are happy to walk you around the garden, telling the story of each location along the way.But the highlight for me is the Japanese tea ceremony in the memorial hall. For 500 yen, we were able to experience a tea ceremony with macha and sweets, and as a bonus they also thought us how to make traditional tea! Its the best 500 yen weve ever spent. I believe they only conduct those every 18th to 23rd of each month.Ill definitely go back here next time.
