Sandtrap Tavern - Bar & grill in Kitty Hawk, United States
Love coming here for some tasty food. My favorite is their pickle brined chicken sandwich. It’s super tasty and I like it even better as a slider during their happy hour.
A quaint little spot overlooking the golf course, friendly staff food was great couldnt have asked for a better breakfast experience.
Went here for dinner and trivia night. The food was okay, and the people who got drinks were a little Disappointed. The trivia was fun, if a bit different than what we usually see
Worst service and breakfast on the beach took us almost hour and a half to eat breakfast I had eggs and sausage gravy and biscuits eggs came out cold amd gravy had zero flavor I would highly recommend you do not come here we stood at the door 7 8 Mins before any one even told us we could sit down
Order biscuits and gravy Togo in our way out of town. It was ready when we got there and tastyyyyy!!!!!
Really great food and the girls behind the bar are fantastic.
We tried Sand trap Tavern today for the first time. I had the Blackened Fish Tacos and my wife had the Tavern Dip (french dipsandwich. We did have to track down the waitress more than once, but overall we both enjoyed it.We will be back for another round at the Soundtrap Tavern!
What a hidden gem! The wife and I were driving around trying to find a spot for breakfast. Every place was packed and 1.5 - 2 hour wait. We found the Sandtrap Tavern and it did not disappoint. The staff was awesome and the food was delicious. Highly recommended if you don’t want the wait time.Food Quality = A+Service = A+Price = A++Wait Time = A+
The food was great. No complaints. Severely it understaffed. Only one (young blondewaitress serving the dining area. She was working her butt off. Get this girl some help
My husband and I went to Kitty Hawk to do some wedding planning in February, stumbled upon Shipwrecks, and LOVED the food. We immediately got the phone number of the owner to see if we could set up our Rehearsal Dinner with them. We ended up connecting and having our Rehearsal Dinner at the Sandtrap Tavern, since the owners own both places. Both ourselves and our guests were very impressed with the food and service. The food was absolutely delicious! Teresa was excellent and even did some personalized decorations that we requested in order to make the night exactly what we were looking for. We highly recommend you reach out to her for your party needs!
Terrible experience. We were told there was no wait and ended up waiting at least 30 minutes to be seated, people were piling up and nobody ever even came out to assist, people were having to go in and find staff to help. When we were finally seated things took forever and the staff were very rude. The food was overpriced and not even that great to be honest. They also have on their menu that breakfast is served from 7am-11am and it was 11:03 yet she wouldn’t let us order lunch and was terribly rude about it. Overall a very negative experience and so not worth all the time we wasted waiting. Will NOT be returning and definitely would not recommend.
Waitress smelled like an ashtray and was annoyed when we asked for a highchair. We waited for a while before even getting menus and got a snappy reply when we asked.
Allison was a great server during trivia night. Standard golf course fare. Fries were crispy. Try the green tea shots!
They were a little busy so the service was a little slow but the friendly staff and great food more than made up for it.
After several good experiences, we came in for lunch today, only to be faced with several disappointments... It started with the server yelling from behind the bar, asking us what we wanted to drink! Next, she brought our drinks and silverware settings, and dropped one of the settings on the floor, only to be picked up and placed on our table. When I said "Seriously?", she realized what shed done and snatched both settings back. A diet Pepsi was ordered, regular Pepsi was served. Then the big disappointment...the lunch special in Thursday is a hamburger steak. When weve had it in the past, it has been delicious, homemade, served with macaroni and cheese and cornbread. Today, it was a lousy hamburger patty with peppers and onions... yuk! The mashed sweet potatoes were watery and the roll was a cheap Whitehouse roll that was grilled and had no flavor. I dont know what happened, but we are NOT planning to come back. We are locals and love to support our local restaurants, but you guys blew it today!
Food was okay. Typical golf course food. We had a large party right at trivia time. Drinks were fast. Food was slow. They were out of Mt dew and ciabatta bread. Wait staff was super friendly and helpful, but apparently the kitchen can go only so fast. UPDATE still 3 stars. Prices are up. Portions are down. The BLT is okay. Ask for mayo. Brisket melt meat is chewy. Moving on. Tex Mex salad good. Ran out salad before the dressing. Lol. Club sandwich is a safe bet. Fries are good. They are coated not fresh cut. Burgers good. Buffalo shrimp is good. They had to order 2 for a young adult portion. Wait staff is still awesome. Quick with drinks and any of our needs. With 13 of us, we had a lot of needs. Ha. If you have kids ask for the kids menu. Crayons yay. I would say up the portions. Add some kitchen staff. All the problems are fixable.
We were looking for a eat in pizza spot and had no luck after stopping at 3 places who ended up with closed dining rooms. The burgers were great, the kids were happy, my wife enjoyed it. Nice view of golf course.
The server was nice, but was completely MIA for the majority of the time we were there. Also, Id recommend adding a drink menu with specialty cocktails.
Best breakfast around. I loved the fries 🍟
Worse breakfast experience ever!Waited for over an hour for breakfast (only 5 tables seatedFood was cold/warm
Took over an hour for our food to come out. There were only 5 other tables at the time. Chicken sandwich was overcooked and smelled burnt. Fries were cold. Burgers were like hockey pucks.
The service here was so, so very slow. Everything took forever.HOWEVER, if you are patient, you will be rewarded. I had the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had from a restaurant! The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I didnt even need ketchup. It was lovely! For those who have sensory sensitivities, either skip this one or ask to eat outside. Sound bounces around far too well resulting in a lot of crossing conversations which can be overwhelming.
Great fish tacos! Clean, not crowded.
This was the perfect place for an excellent breakfast each morning before we headed for the beach.
Great food, Great prices, ladies working there are awesome. Very friendly and very pretty. Lol
Id say this place was just okayish, they have decently priced items however the chicken sandwich I got had literally nothing but mayo and pickles on it. The chicken and bun were good but I wish that there was tomato and lettuce or something else on there to make it have more of a varied taste. Also, this place is meant for golfers which I am not so beware that the inside smells like a locker room and their bathroom smells like wet dog due to the shower.
Biscuits and gravy is super fluffy and the gravy is nice and chunky with sausage. Snagged a few more pictures.
My boyfriend and I didn’t even bother staying. The waitresses here are extremely rude. I understand they were a little busy, but she slammed our menus down and didn’t even say hello. This was after I tried getting another’s attention and was snapped at. We left before anyone even greeted us. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.
Was stay @ sea scape villas & golf, so went to enjoy time at sandtrap. Nice size, easy prk, good food.
How are you called a tavern when you close at 7pm? Why even open just wait until busy summertime
This place was a great spot for breakfast. Food was great, prices were good, no crowds. Super friendly. Will return next time were in town.
Food not bad. Service questionable but ok. Coffee thick and strong with aftertaste so not too desirable
Ordered Buffalo chicken wings that were reheated to “warm” and tasted old. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos that came with two tacos and two small shrimp per taco and the rest was lettuce. We have been to the Sand Trap on two previous occasions and were totally satisfied. This was disappointing
Friendly staff, grabbed a chicken salad sandwich at the turn, premade and not very flavorful, but tasted fresh. Afterwards, everyone said the food off the regular menu is very good... Next time.
What a great place to get a bite to eat before, after or during a round of golf. Or just a nice place to go hang with a couple of friends. We went after playing golf (15 of us), they easily accommodated us. Staff was friendly, service was fast and the food was really good. I had the shrimp tacos, highly recommend, very tasty. They have a good selection of drinks also. Will return when in the area.
The guy behind the bar has a major attitude! He purposely walked into us coming in and has been ignoring us since we sat down. Sad that the food is good but this guy has a major issue. Seems like every time we come in here he has a major attitude! And has just walked away as we are trying to order food. Won’t come back again until he is gone.
No good vegetarian options, but the shrimp burger is delicious. Not good for large groups, dining area is relatively small and mostly booths. They do have outdoor seating where you can bring your dog. Staff was very friendly and helpful even though they were still very busy when we were there at the end of the night.
Just had take out. Food was very good - we had 2 pulled porks, fish tacos and chicken sandwich. Also had buffalo shrimp. Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is the amount of meat on the pulled porks. We were expecting it to fall off the sandwich and pile up in the tray to be eaten with forks and there just wasnt enough to even really enjoy it. Im hoping maybe it was a new guy in the kitchen or they were running low so they made it stretch - but Ive had a ton of bbq in NC and this was the leanest one Ive ever had. It was good though.
Disappointed wasnt greeted at the door didnt know if you were supposed to seat yourself or wait. Dinner was over priced service wasnt very good. No need for me to return. They have a bar but no drink menus.
Food was quite tasty. It came out quickly and was presented nicely. Items were a bit pricey, but hey...its the beach during summer. Service was good too - our teas stayed topped off. They need to pay a little more attention to cleaning off the tables and chairs though. For example, remove everything from the table. Wipe it. And replace. Dont just wipe around in a circle.
A (probably5 star place that unfortunately gets 3 stars because of a few things:-Asked if their “Jumbo” wings were “full wings”. Elaborated further by asking if they were the “wings with two pieces”. 8 for $14 seems like a bit much but reasonable enough for this kind of place for full wings. However…they came out and there were 8 tiny wing dings. Not even big half sized wings. They tasted good, sauce and cook on point but $14 for 8 small half wings and being lied to is not great.-Fish tacos. The tacos were mostly greens (romaine?that flavor wise/texture wise dominated the tacos. Tiny little bits of (well cookedfish were barely noticeable. $12 for 2 good fish tacos would’ve been fine but not for skimpy, unsatisfactory ones.-Fries are super good. Not too hot but still good.I would come back to this place just for the fact that I know it can do better.
Well.....came here with high hopes and was severely let down. The wait staff was awful, food actually made me gag it was so bad, the restaurant was pretty empty but almost every table was full of dirty dishes and our waitress seemed to be in such a rush that she got my order completely wrong then looked at me as if I were speaking a different language when I told her about it. Honestly, just don’t come here but if you do make that mistake, don’t get the crab cakes because you will want to vomit or they’ll just bring you two plates of French fries because that makes sense.
Really enjoyed 2 rounds this week. Would have made it 5 stars if the lady in the pro shop hadnt accused us of being late for our tee time when we were 10 minutes early today. Kind of rude, and when she realized she was the one who made the error she couldnt even manage an apology. Rest of the staff was awesome!
Really nice heavy pours especially if you tip your bartender well. Most the food from the clubhouse is just ok. What you would expect from a stadium type attraction like a ballpark.
Most of the food is good, love those fake fries (seasonedMost beers are reasonably priced, but I paid almost $10 for a hot chocolate with a shot of cheap peppermint schnapps after a really cold day on the golf course.
Great local spot. Its at the Seascape Golf Course. If youre here, youre local but even its outsiders are felt warm and welcome. We were attended to by the OG, Amanda, whose sparkling personality is only eclipsed by her service to us customers. Fast, efficient, and lots of fun. The burgers are to die for and breakfast before our round of golf was fantastic. Do come by if youre looking for low key, down-to-earth atmosphere, great food, excellent service, and a damn fine meal. Its as no-risk as you can get.
Great food excellent service got alot for my money and it tasted really good
The food was excellent. We loved everything- crab cake sandwich, steamed shrimp, fried chicken sliders and orange crushes. Our server was Lisa. She was so friendly. We will be back soon.
One of our favorite local spots! We love sitting outside and ordering their happy hour menu or full menu! Never disappointed! Due to Covid-19, we got Sandtrap delivery! It was delicious as always and enjoyed in the comfort of our home! Excellent service, excellent food! Thank you Chef Michael!
I wanted to try this restaurant due to the good reviews, but I could not get anyone to help me. I was ignored. I finally fetched a menu myself, and decided what I wanted, but still not acknowledged. 4 employees appeared to be on the patio socializing with each other and one female employee at the bar socializing with a patron. Perhaps I’ll try again. Disappointing.Updated 4 weeks laterI tried the restaurant again several weeks later around mid-day on a Saturday. Much better luck. I got a very helpful waitress and had the fried fish. It was a huge portion cooked just right.
