Sandridge Lookout - Tourist attraction in Sunbury, Australia
Fantasic lookout with almost 360 deg views!!!The Webb Point Observation Platform, also known as the Sandridge Lookout, is an elevated observation deck which gives you an almost 360 degree panoramic view of the area; the Bay, Williamstown, West Gate Bridge and the City, even as far as the Star Observation Wheel in Docklands. Its also a good spot to watch the fishermen fish for Snapper however, the wind howling through the observation decks corten slats creates quite a harsh sound.
It a nice walk or ride to the lookout, wheelchair accessible. Nice views across the bay to the city. Seems to be a popular spot for fishing, with platforms along the breakwater. It’s a popular spot with a large playground. Car park gets busy and not always possible to get a car park during busy days or over summer.
Tram # 109 terminus stop to Sandridge Lookout - a pleasant, mostly level, easy walk on concrete, boardwalk and gravel pathway, passing beaches, childrens playground, with distant views of a working port and city skyline at the end. Popular with dog walkers, fisherman, joggers, cyclists. There are toilet facilities near Beacon Cove terminus tram stop and at Sandridge Beach.Note: Dont follow Google Map route - take the beach or playground route near Todd Road.
Great views of Melbourne CBD, watching the cranes at the adjacent port and the fishers lining up their rods all along the breakwater. Cyclist note: gravel road
Its one of my favourite spot. you basically can go there and kick back
Come near sunset - listen to the wind making music on the guardrails -look one way to the distant build horizon and then turn the other way to the hoisting containers and ships gliding past - hopes tethered on fishing lines memories of a swamp that was - end of a time when there was no sea
This is a really great lookout spot. You get a nice view of the city and its coastline, and good vantage point to see all of the different types of ships and boats that are visible on the lookout. A nice place go chill and relax at the end of the trail.
Grab some lovely views of the ocean, watch containers being loaded onto ships, take a quiet stroll down the waterfront at the sandridge lookout.
I just discovered this hidden gem whilst exploring on my bike today. Such a unique view of the bay and the city. Everyone was very friendly and rumour has it it’s stunning at sunset. You can stand close to the container ships in Webb Dock and see them being unloaded by the machines… it would be a hit with kids I’m sure! My pictures do not do the area justice.
A little gem...the serenity of Port Phillip Bay ( we got lucky with the weatherjuxtaposed with the mechanical workings of the adjacent stevedoring.
Good walk trail, suns out and great city views.Lots of friendly people going for walks and very helpful fishermens in this area. Took photos around dusk and nightfall for comparison, needless to say nighttime views bring out what Melbourne is really about.
A bit out of the way but worth the walk. Great views of the bay and back to the city.
Terrific view across to the city and down the bay plus limited views of Container Port operations
Always nice to go out for a ride or a walk and take in the view.
Nice walk (or rideout to the lookout with great views across the bay towards the city. The lookout has a long ramp to the viewing area so you can even ride to the top!
Great view, its a little hard to get too but well worth the scenery.
Beautiful views across the bay When the weather is clear. A pleasure to be alive there when it’s sunny and blue skies. Can be quite fresh and cool when there’s a breeze, but makes for a pleasant walk or bike ride.Temporary closure beyond Sandridge Lookout to the end at the Victoria Container Terminal due to storm damage to the pathway, as at June 2021. Hopefully not for long.
If you want to drive and park to get here, you need to put Sandridge Beach into your maps app. Otherwise you end up at the container and shipping yards close by. Getting all confused with Siri saying "Do a U turn at....." when the road ends at the wrong area 😑Park up at the car parks allocated for beach goers and its a 15 min casual stroll to the lookout, with public toilets and a park for kids along the way. Its very scenic and you can get some nice shots of the cityscape across the water of Port Phillip Bay. There are some little info signs of the area along the way. Keep an eye out for water rats! Or Rakali. I spotted a dead one in the bushes.
Spectacular place for views of the City and Webb Dock. Tranquil and dazzling at night.
Amazing views, just a shame you can’t see the full view of the port in operation.I also think that the fisheries officers need to patrol that area a bit more, there were some people there who found it funny to film a poor fish flopping around on the ground, they were laughing and pointing at it.
Outstanding lookout location. Watch as the ships of varying sizes sail in & around the ports of Melbourne. Fabulous walking tracks beachside complement the scenery of native fauna. Port Melbourne remains a popular suburb to live, visit & admire.
Absolutely breathtaking views at night. Dress warm.
Google Maps took down a dead end road if using a car. Had to change Maps to walking to find. Lookout itself was just ok , barely. Not much to see. And not a 360 degree view either. Could have been higher. From a distance the lookout structure looks quite high but when you reach there, you’re quite low with the higher part of structure just there for aesthetic purposes and useless. Would not go again.
Had some great times here in the summer especially the good old days before being all done up. Great beach, playground and walkways
This walk and lookout has been our savour during lockdown. This walk is within 5km from our place.
A short 25 minute walk away from the famous Princes Pier, Sandridge lookout can truly be appreciated on a windy day when the collision of the wind and metal synthesise a deeply hypnotic, binaural sound akin to a large meditation bowl. I walk up here every chance I get. Remember - the windier, the better.
Great place for a walk and lookout
Great view of the city and bay. if you walk from here to the top of Bay Street it’s a good 3km stretch. Great view of the shops coming and go
Great city views at sunset! 11 min walk from the carpark next to the kids park, just heads up.
What a great view of melbourne cbd. If you are into photography then this is a great place to capture the city. You may want to go into camel mode though as the nearest toilet is 16 minutes away. There is parking available and a small beach nearby. You can also enjoy views of port phillip and nearby shipping activities. Close by is princes pier which is another photography hot spot. Time your excursion nicely and you can get the moon over the cbd. Please note attached image is a quick mobile snap.
Nice place for a morning run
Not a lot of people know about this place but the views of the city and surrounding industrial area is really nice. Ive seen other pictures from here at night which also look good. Place is nice to go fishing and learn about all the different ships that come and go into the bay, where they are from and what they have in them. Even though it is a fair walk up from the beaches Id still recommend checking this out
Good views, but bright lighting spoils night photography
Nice fishing spot no fish though haha
Pleasant walk top get there and good views. Have been a number of times in different weather conditions and found the different experiences worthwhile.
This place is ok to for a walk to if you are looking to burn some time. Its a nice walk for locals and if you are a tourist it would be OK but its probably not worth it if you only have limited time, its windy and it doesnt really lead anywhere. Plenty of people fish on the path out there as well.
Nice place for enjoying city skyline
I never knew this place existed just happened upon it as I walking along the beach. Its such a cool walk out to the point and the view at the lookout is fantastic. The bay, then back to the beach and city and then on the other side you get a close up view of Webb dock. I loved it, will definitely be returning.
Lovely lookout to the city. Marvelous for sunrise from the city view but the lookout structure blocks the sunset so I wouldnt recommend for sunset. Very windy.
Its a bit of a walk out to it, but once you are out there, its a lovely view out onto Port Phillip Bay. There is helpful signage to help you identify different types of ships and what they might be carrying. On the way out, there are also some helpful signs explaining the history of the area. The only reason that I give four stars and not five is because it is very loud on a windy day, but if youre ok with the noise, then its a good spot to watch the water.Im not sure why, but there are also lights on the way out and in the lookout itself, though I dont see any good reason to go at night. There is some shelter to keep (somewind and rain off, although I dont see it being overly pleasant on a rainy day.
This is a great spot for photographing Port Melbourne and the city over the water. Awesome for light painting. Plenty of people fishing along the foreshore. Its well lit and the path is excellent. There are seats every 100m or so. Be a great place to see the New Year fireworks.
Cycling around was amazing. Really nice views
Great spot to walk or cycle....never too busy and lots of maritime action.
Fantastic beach! Amazing for kids! Very heavy middle eastern Muslim presence, they keep to themselves and are no trouble! Being a Christian and exposing my tattoo of my crusafix, hasnt bothered anyone! In the end we all just want to enjoy the beach with our family and friends! Oh and feel free to wear what U like ladies! No issues with other women wearing sexy bikinis either! At least not that Ive noticed 😉
Nice place for a swim, especially the Port Melbourne end. Its a mix of a middle eastern beach crowd, and glitzy, gay and trendy crowd. Quite a mix. There are changing room and showering facilities, and cafes on the Port Melbourne end of the beach.
Interesting galvanized viewing platform to see the busy port at work and gain a better understanding the importance of trade.
Ideal if you want some quite time on the beach! Not very touristy at all and pretty much no shops around. Just a nice change to St Kilda etc.
Fantastic walk, peaceful place, native vegetation, extremely clean, very friendly people around, plenty of wild life, not too far from the city, excellent experience, brilliant view, very safe, CCTV in action
Nice walk, has a great view of port and the city.
Great place to come an unwind.
