Sandhill Curiosity Shop - Tourist attraction in Childress, United States
Cool place - worth a visit if nearby
Some very cool stuff this guy needs more space. But it was a great stop.
We stopped in and were lucky enough to enjoy a live concert!
There is a vast variety of things covered in dirt and dust. Unfortunately the owner is mentally and socially disabled. He was smoking Marijuana. There is an ashtray piled with cigarettes. He made some comments to my husband about stealing peoples wives. I believe this man is dangerous. Although he plays music beautifully as we heard before we entered, he was unwilling to play anymore music when we entered. We did leave him a donation. Someone needs to come to this mans rescue before the place burns down
Warning! Dangerous man. Stay away. The town is near empty and not worth stopping.
I must have offended the owner in some way. My apologies. Interesting collection of items. Guitars seem to be his prized possessions.
So worth the visit!! Harley is such a character you simply have to meet! He had great stories and is an Excellent musician if you let him play for you.Just whatever you do, take cash! Its all on an optional donation basis - but with his excellent display of antiques and his time, youll feel it worthy to leave a donation Im sure.
There just are no words to describe meeting Harley. This is why you ride on Route 66. We stopped to just take pictures and ended up staying for 30 - 40 minutes. Harley delighted us with stories and played a guitar solo that left us speechless. We came from Chicago and stopped at every kitschy attraction there is. This is the most memorable and extraordinary experience. Stop and drop some cash in one of Harley’s tip jars. He won’t be around forever so be sure to stop.
Make sure to stop in and see Harley on your trip along route 66. He has put together a unique collection of memorabilia. He is full of stories, pull up a chair and listen to his tales. If you are lucky enough, he might even play a little on his guitar. An authentic route 66 experience.
So much to see! You gotta meet Harley!
This is more like a "route 66 junk store". It is not a retail shop. You are encouraged to take photos but then of course you are encouraged to make a "donation".
Well now this was an interesting stop. If you are ever in the area do it!!!
Free. Harley...is a trip. Will have a smoke or a drink with you. Everything is for viewing, not for sale. Hes hot on an electric guitar! Please dont ask him personal questions about the color of his underwear if youre in a prudent crowd.......... Wife died recently. he will show you some history and collectibles if you ask. The best part us sitting in the circle or on the porch and telling stories or jamming. if you play, bring your instrument in for a session and see if you believe who hes played with.
Interesting little place a lot of things to see very nice owner
Avoid! Harley was extremely rude to me after I drove 4 hours to meet the man I thought was amazing. The town itself is a dive its not worth the gas cost. I felt sick with how I was treated by him
Easily the highlight of our Route 66 journey so far. Even got to jam out on the guitar with Harley...cool dude, cool and curious shop!
Harley is a very interesting man. We spent about 2 hrs touring his shop taking pictures and sharing stores. He asked about our RVing life style and shared his knowledge on life as he knows it for himself over his 70+ years 😊
Owner is kind of rude but nice place on route 66
Great western jazz swing guitar playing by Harley, the proprietor. We jammed for four hours. Highly recommended.großartiger Ort für die lokale Kultur
Don´t this miss out! Visiting Harley is a must when you´re travelling the 66 !
Did not get a chance to go in due to being closed. But tons of old signs outside to occupy your time if you need a break from driving. My girl friend really wanted to meet the owner and experience what others talked about. We could have used some songs for our journey. Will try again sometime when we come back thru :)
Harley is probably one of the nicest people in the world, the way he invites people into his life, in the red neck capitol of the world and let you see how insane people live work and play is just awesome!
This time through the plan was to do Texas through California. At the last minute we decided to detour through a little bit of Oklahoma to kick off the trip. Our first stop was the 66 museum in Elk City. Those ladies were so rude and refused to sell us tickets because "we showed up late" (40 min before they close is "late" yallit almost made me regret making the 9 hour drive this far. So we headed west pretty discouraged but tried to stay positive. Then we call Harley. He said he was at his shop so we got there as quick as we could. The guy kept us very entertained and put on a hell of a show saving the day. Hilarious fun, energetic and puts on a great show.
Its was a great experience! This place is amazing, lots of signs and stuff from route 66. Harley is a crazy man, but very funny!
Owner will play a song if you ask. Tons of Rt 66 memorabilia.
This guy is crazy. I went inside to check it out. He seemed nice at first. And showed me a donation jar. Then got nasty with me and started to insult me. I left and then he started following me around town.Stay away from this guy he’s dangerous. There others that have had the same experience.
Well worth the visit if travelling on route 66. Unfortunately it was shut when we passed by but the signs out side were very impressive.
Harley is amazing but far from politically correct. Enter only if you have very thick skin and do not bring your kids.
Harley is a wonderful community personality! His shop really shows what route 66 is about.
Harley is by far the best on Route 66 this man is a legend great personality... humble hearted ...kind ...wild and fun I am blessed to have met him....am going back again very soon.....
Would have been better if they were open like the sign says.
Been on a road trip for a few days from texas...Harley was by far the highlight of my trip! He was so funny! He had me laughing the whole time! He made me feel like home the moment I walked in. He even serenaded us with his electric guitar! I would definitely recommend coming to this iconic place! Thank you so much Harley for an amazing memory I will always cherish! You seriously rock!! Stay safe and keep rocking!
So even though I didn’t get to go in, I wanted to share my awesome story about Harley. I knew it was a long shot being off-season & pandemic. On the way out, I hit a snowstorm, but still stopped for a pic, & on way home I thought I’d try again. After waiting around I thought I’d call the number listed to see if they were opening. No answer, BUT Harley called me back. He apologized for not opening till later & I was just floored that he was nice enough to call back! He chatted with me a while, learning about my trip down Route 66, and told me to stay safe. Even though I didn’t get to meet the “legend of Route66” in person, I can’t tell you how sweet it was of him to take time to chat. It was so thoughtful. And I’m surely making sure I won’t miss him next trip!
WOW, what a fun stop! Harley was quite a character and maybe "stole the show" on our iconic Route 66 trip, If you travel 66 and want to meet cool people, youd be hard pressed to do better than here!
Harley was interesting to talk with and his place was packed with tons of stuff to look at and discuss.
Harleys is one of the many hearts that keeps Route 66 alive and unique
Harley is so friendly and funny! This place has so much to look at and its a great stop on route 66. It was also an insiration for Cars the movie, which is very cool too! Check it out yall!
A must stop ..just a amazing couple of guys I loved it
A unique stop and the definition of what makes route 66 fun. Harley will offend you, while making you smile. Just go with it.
My wife and I visited the Shop on October 17th and found Harley jamming with Mark Charitan a singer/songwriter from Ohio. Harley was kind enough to loan Mark a guitar and strings were bent, heads were cut and a great time was had by all. Don’t miss this joint!j
This is a must stop. One of the funnest places in all of Oklahoma! Harley is a great guy who WILL make you laugh and remember life is about fun. Seriously Do not miss this place.
The most amazing stop you can do on the iconic Route 66! Harley is the best and a true icon! Make sure you tip him well, he is one of the last left keeping this legend alive! Thus little “shop” is the most interesting place you’ll see in your life, and the experience will blow you away. And who knows, you might be surprised... go there, it’s amazing!
Oh my god!!! It was unbelievable!!! And Harley was singing for us too, he is amazing, this was the best so far on the route 66
They say it happened by accident but it didnt. Harley and Annabelle worked hard for decades against all odds to make it happen. They seized rare opportunity when it knocked and made it happen by their own extraordinary design, skill and effort. Overcoming adversity beyond belief, its still happening today after so many others have fizzled and gone under.
Harley is a crazy character,,!! his museum on route 66 is just unique.. l was not expecting what I experienced.. but I wouldnt forgive myself missing it..
Amazing encounter. Harley is a gentleman in a red neck dungarees
Harley is a one of a kind, truly fun person. Hes great with his guitar, and has a crazy, fun loving attitude. His collection of memorabilia is absolutely amazing, and he can tell you something about pretty much everything in both his shop and his home, which he will frequently show you if asked. (PS: He really does TRY to tone down his "adults only" attitude if you bring your children along, and really does love kids.)
Closed, no hours posted 😒 the place looks so much fun and Ive heard the owner is a blast. To bad we missed him.UPDATE .. we went back to try again and met the owner, yes he’s crazy and enjoys playing the part. If you’re not offended by an unfiltered VERY entertaining show (lots of cussing), it is well worth a visit.
Thought this place was closed but we tried the door and heard Harley say "come on in." The next hour was the most fun. What a character. He was very entertaining with conversation and song. Loved the place. Stop if you can, plan to stay awhile. But thats the idea of Route 66. Stay and talk to the locals. 👌
Harley is weird, rude, and Okie- the perfect stop on Route 66. Come in to take a look at his signs, chat for a bit, and listen to him play a song for you.Cant vouch that hes kid friendly and you might accidentally catch tetanus but it was a photo-worthy stop.
